Clicking on a .gif file does save or save as. How to open in a new tab?
Does not appear in the Options > Applications and it doesn't seem to be a way to add the file type.
You can post a link to a GIF image that is causing the download dialog box?

I just created my bookmarks bar with my URL more often used. However when I click on a URL of my toolbar bookmark, it opens in a sidebar on the left on my main screen and not in a new tab. The sidebar is heavy, because I have to scroll to see the entire screen. How can I get the URL to open in a new tab, not in the sidebar?
Opening in the sidebar is the default action for bookmarks created via a "Mark this Page" link or button on a Web site. Make sure you use many methods to "Bookmark this Page" located in Firefox instead.
Right-click on the bookmark and select Properties, then turn off the preference for the load this bookmark in the sidebar, and then click Save.

Cannot open new tab by going to the file/new tab (or CTRL + T or by clicking on the new field of the tab). One is to right-click on a link and choose open in a new tab.
I found that the ASK toolbar is the culprit. I have no recollection of ever install Ask and wanted not just her in any case. Withdrawal fixed the problem.

Open in a new tab or window does not work. How can I fix?
I just upgraded to 36.01. When I right click on a link in the menu of options is long and confusing. When I select open in a new tab or a new window, it does nothing. What can I do to reduce the list of options and how to fix him open a new tab or window option?
Create a new profile as a test to see if your profile is the source of the problem.
See "create a profile":
- https://support.Mozilla.org/KB/Profile-Manager-create-and-remove-Firefox-profiles
- http://KB.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a profile already used in the new profile, but be careful not to copy files corrupted to avoid transporting more problems.
Try a clean reinstall and delete the program folder before Firefox to (re) install a new copy of the current version of Firefox.
- Download the full Firefox installation program and save the file to the desktop
https://www.Mozilla.org/en-us/Firefox/all/
If possible to uninstall your current version of Firefox to clean the Windows registry and settings in the security software.
- Do NOT remove the "personal data" when you uninstall your current version of Firefox, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data such as bookmarks and passwords including data profiles created by other versions of Firefox.
Delete the program folder Firefox before installing newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
- (32-bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
- (Windows 64 bit) "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla.
- It is important to remove the Firefox program folder to delete all the files and make sure that there is no problem with the files that were the remains after uninstallation.
- http://KB.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and will not be affected by a uninstall and (re) install, but do NOT delete personal data when you uninstall Firefox which removes all Firefox profile folders and you lose your data.
If you keep problems also create a new profile.

Change the link to a Flash file, so it opens in a new tab
Hello everyone. I have a flash file on my client's Web site home page. When you click on 'Enter', the new page opens in a new tab. I want it all to stay in the same tab. If you want to see all the code yourself in order to identify how I could solve this problem, the site is: www.amycarriermodel.com - but if not then I'll paste the code of the object flash below:
<object id="FlashID" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="720" height="540"> <param name="movie" value="Scripts/FrontPage2.swf" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <param name="wmode" value="opaque" /> <param name="swfversion" value="6.0.65.0" /> <!-- This param tag prompts users with Flash Player 6.0 r65 and higher to download the latest version of Flash Player. Delete it if you don’t want users to see the prompt. --> <param name="expressinstall" value="Scripts/expressInstall.swf" /> <!-- Next object tag is for non-IE browsers. So hide it from IE using IECC. --> <!--[if !IE]>--> <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="Scripts/FrontPage2.swf" width="720" height="540"> <!--<![endif]--> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <param name="wmode" value="opaque" /> <param name="swfversion" value="6.0.65.0" /> <param name="expressinstall" value="Scripts/expressInstall.swf" /> <!-- The browser displays the following alternative content for users with Flash Player 6.0 and older. --> <div> <h4>Content on this page requires a newer version of Adobe Flash Player.</h4> <p><a href="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer"><img src="http://www.adobe.com/images/shared/download_buttons/get_flash_player.gif" alt="Get Adobe Flash player" width="112" height="33" /></a></p> </div> <!--[if !IE]>--> </object> <!--<![endif]--> </object></center>
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you
You must be able to adjust the code for the button of the Flash file to specify that it opens in the same window (use "_self" as the argument of the window).
If your slide show program does not provide for the addition of this argument, and if you have no fla file for the swf file that you created, then your only hope might be to buy a decompiler program and see if you can create a FLA of your swf with her.
Other that this, create your own slide show using Flash and you will have no problem affecting this button up... but that's probably easier to say what to do if you have any Flash experience.

For example, when I enter the search term "cabinets" and get a page/tab search results with suggestions such as Sears, JCPenney, or Amazon, I want to be able to click on Sears and open the Sears page in a new tab/page. I want to be able to close the tab to Sears and use the search results tab.
Google offers a framework for this. What it does, it adds a HTML (target = "blank") statement to every result link, which causes Firefox to open in a new tab. If you uncheck the preference to divert new windows in new tabs, Firefox will then open the result in a new separate window.
This preference is stored in a cookie, if you clear your Google cookies often, so you'll need to reset every time. You can do so here:
https://www.Google.com/preferences
(On this page, Google refers to a new window.)

Cannot not average or do a right click on Favorites to open in a new tab
I can no more middle-click a bookmark in the bookmarks menu to open in a new tab. No matter if I have left, middle or right click, it is considered to be a left click and open in my currently open tab.
PS I do this using Firefox 23, but goes the same for Firefox (obtained from Nightly Builds) 26.Bug in Firefox 748850 has a work around: you must use the terminal or a file browser. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/index.php?title=UserChrome.css in my case is the new required folder & new file are in ~/.mozilla/firefox/randomalphanumeric.default/ you have to create the directory 'chrome' and in the 'userChrome.css' with this text file:
Bookmarks-menu-button {}
display:-moz - box! important ;}
Then restart FF. -

When I click on a url, it should open in a new tab; why it opens in the same tab?
I have my preferences of Mozilla implemented so that whenever I click on a url, it should open in a new tab, but every once in a while, Mozilla goes on the fritz, and open the new url IN THE SAME TAB! I checked my preferences, they are always well positioned. I checked the tools: Options: general: tabs: open the new window in the tab instead. and when I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately. If it is always well positioned.
What Miss me?
That preference refers to links that are coded to launch in a new window: start them in a new tab instead of a new window.
Unfortunately, there is no adjustment for the links that are coded to launch in the same tab to start them in a new tab instead of in the same tab. You would need an add-on for that.
Normally, I would you recommend checking out Tab Mix Plus as the 'Swiss Army knife' tab features, but lately, it has a small bug so it has not been last updated in recent days, could you hold off on using it.

In a pinned tab - how to force the link click here to open in a new tab?
I'm trying to get all THE links you click to open in a new TAB. It worked before the upgrade to v37.0.02 wonder, but I started to notice some links are now updated the TAB PINS, rather than open the link in a new tab. Only some.
All of these sites that I have used before the upgrade to v37.0.2.
So I'm confused as to why. What has changed?I followed the advice of Co - rel here:
https://support.Mozilla.org/PL/questions/970999[quote]
You can set the browser.link.open_newwindow to 1 on the about:config page http://kb.mozillazine.org/about:config
See:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.link.open_newwindow (default: 3) 1: current tab; 2:new window; 3:new tab;
This pref defined the behavior of JavaScript links:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction (default: 2) 0:all; 1:none; 2:only special windows
Can you please tell me how will I know if the link is a "JavaScript links?
Thank you
You can middle - click a bookmark to open this bookmark in a new tab.
Otherwise, you will need to use an extension to open a default bookmark in a new tab.- Open bookmarks in a new tab: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/open-bookmarks-in-new-tab/

When I click on a bookmark, it will not open in a new tab
I just got a Macbook Pro and installed Firefox. On a PC, whenever I clicked on a bookmark, it opened in a new tab. The same settings do not work on a Mac. The bookmark opens in the same tab, I was sure. Help please
Hello
My understanding is that the default action for the left by clicking on a bookmark should open in the current tab. If you want to open in a new tab, the Middle click button is usually the way to do it.
You can also install the following extensions that will force all bookmarks to open in a new tab:
Or this extension which will provide further options for tabs (including you):

The question just about everything said. In the past, if I right click on a link and choose open in a new tab when I went back to splash page focus would be on the link. So if I then did a page down it would begin from the link. Now it starts, usually further towards the top of the page, so I end up back on the same thing. I would go back to the way it was, how can I do this?
Running Firefox version 32.0.2.
It seems that the culprit was a setting in Tab Mix Plus. In Options > events > tabs > content emphasis during loading non-empty page has not been verified. When checked, Firefox works as expected. At least as expected by me.
