Client Microsoft NFS cannot lock files through UNC path names

I have a \\server\share\filename.txt file on a linux NFS server and an application (lockfile.exe) that uses the lockfile to lock this file.
I traced the \\server\share to z:, so I could do 'lockfile.exe z:\filename.txt' and he succeeded.
When I tried to block that through UNC path name, 'lockfile.exe \\server\share\filename.exe', I got an error is NOT supported.
In looking at procmon log I noticed that mapped path requests see as ' \; '. MRxNfs\; Z:0000000000XXXX\server\share\filename.txt"so that the UNC request are displayed as"\\server\share\filename.txt ".
Is there a way around this problem?

Hi Helem,

Your question of Windows 7 is more complex than what is generally answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. It is better suited for the IT Pro TechNet public.  Please post your question in the TechNet Windows 7 networking forum.

Universal Naming Convention is a naming convention used primarily to specify and map network drives in Microsoft Windows. UNC names are most commonly used to join servers files or printers on a local network.

UNC names identify network resources using a specific rating. UNC names consist of three parts: a server name and a share name and an optional file path. These three elements are combined using backslashes as follows:

    \\server\share\file_path

If you try to share a printer on a Windows Vista/7 computer, then I suggest you to check the article mentioned below.

File and printer sharing: frequently asked questions

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/file-and-printer-sharing-frequently-asked-questions

If you trust everyone on your home network, you could opt to turn off sharing protected by password, which is enabled by default in Windows Vista. This will avoid the need to create user accounts the same on all computers on your home network. But remember that disabling makes sharing protected by password for your network less secure because anyone can access the shared contents of your computer. Here's how to turn off password protected sharing:

    a. open the network and sharing Center by clicking the Start button, clickingControl Panel, click network and Internet, click network and sharing Center.

    b. under sharing and discovery, click the arrow next to password protected sharing, click turn off password protected sharing, and then click apply.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    2 - create or replace directory datapump AS ' / u02/expdp/dbname ";

  • Use regular expressions to extract .llb file from the path name

I'm trying to be smart (always a dangerous thing) and use a regular expression to extract the name of a library to a filepath converted to a string.   While I appreciate there are other ways to do this, regex seems to be a very powerful way of neat, I would be able to operate.

IE, if I have a string of type, C:\applications\versions\library.llb\toplevel.vi, I want to be able to extract the library.llb of the string, because it will be of variable length, may include the numbers & spaces and may be located in a file of variable depth hierarchy.   In other words, I want to extract the part of the string between the last-which ends with .llb

The best I managed so far is \\+.*llb who all returned less the drive letter and the toplevel.vi

Can someone help me to achieve this goal, or I'm better by using an alternative method (for example filepath string in array, search for .llb)

    Thank you

  • Only files tif over a certain length (60 characters): cannot open, delete, find, change of name or anything like that

Only files tif over a certain length (60 characters):
I cannot open/view the with any application, cannot be deleted and can not even the name of the file to allow me to try to shorten the name. I can't copy the files or move them from their current folder.  What is going on? These are files that I saved last year. (I don't remember if I tried to open them before.) My computer is a laptop HP DV 6000 series, Media Center Edition Windows XP with ServicePak 3.

There is a fundamental limitation in Windows that the total length of a file, including the path name cannot exceed 255 characters.  It is possible that the total path to your .tif files is something long like:
    C:\Documents and utilisateur\Mes Photos\MySummerVacationLastYear\BigFileName.tif Settings\nom
and the total number of characters in all of this is greater than 255.

There are two ways you can deal with that.  Use the command "SUBST" alias drive letter to the folder that contains your files.  To do this, open a command prompt window (start-> Run-> "cmd") and enter a command such as (to borrow the above, for example):

    SUBST M: "C::\Documents and Settings\nom of utilisateur\Mes Photos\MySummerVacationLastYear.

Where "M:" is a unused drive letter and the rest is the path to the folder that contains your files.  You can now access your file using:
    M:\BigFileName.tif
Who have significantly fewer characters in the path of your original file and allow you to access.

A second approach is to create a folder at the root of your hard drive (for example C:\Pics) and then copy your files into this folder.  Not just any copy program can handle long copy paths (as you have discovered), but can "Robocopy" (robust copy).  You can get Robocopy without the resource Windows Server 2003 on the Microsoft Download site Kit
       <>http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&ID=17657 >
After copying the files, it will be a much shorter and more accessible way.  Robocopy is a command line program and must be run from a command prompt window.
Otherwise, you might be able to move the folder containing these images in this directory at root level.

  • Open 2nd PDF of UNC path fails

    Hallo,

I use Adobe Reader 11.0.08 on Windows7 SP1 (Enterprise) and I try to open the PDF files from UNC path. The first attempt is successful. If Adobe Reader is still open, the attempt to open a 2nd PDF from UNC (same or different) path in Windows Explorer does not work without any error message. The file does not open.

Subsequent attempts were successful or not:

    (drive = \\domain\dfs$ P:\)

    Double-click \\domain\dfs$\path\file1.pdf opens the file.

Double-click \\domain\dfs$\path\file2.pdf does not open the file - no error message.

    Double-click P:\path\file2.pdf opens the file.

In Adobe Reader queue - Open - \\domain\dfs$\path\file2.pdf opens the file too.

    Double-click \\domain\dfs$\path\file2.pdf opens the file.

Double-click \\domain\dfs$\path\file1.pdf does not open the file - no error message.

    Double-click P:\path\file1.pdf opens the file.

In Adobe Reader queue - Open - \\domain\dfs$\path\file1.pdf opens the file too.

    Double-click P:\path\file1.pdf opens the file.

Double-click \\domain\dfs$\path\file2.pdf does not open the file - no error message.

    Double-click P:\path\file2.pdf opens the file.

    Double-click P:\path\file2.pdf opens the file.

Double-click \\domain\dfs$\path\file1.pdf does not open the file - no error message.

    Double-click P:\path\file1.pdf opens the file.

If Adobe Reader is still open, but no file is opened:

Double-click \\domain\dfs$\path\file1.pdf does not open the file - no error message.

    Double-click P:\path\file1.pdf opens the file.

As you can see: If Adobe Reader is still open, I can't open a PDF of the Explorer UNC path. But that's what it takes. Our Frontend application opens a window of the Explorer, and the user must choose the PDF files to open it by double click. It would be a very roundabout way to copy the location of the Explorer to open the file in Adobe Reader. We would like to open the first, and then all the other files in the same session to explore via double-click.

Of course, if I disable the protected mode every attempt works very well but unfortunately there is no option permitted to disable the protected mode (security policy) - it must be enabled.

Each change in the 'ProtectedModeWhitelistConfig.txt' failed. For more information its current config that works as mentioned above:

    ; Files section

    FILES_ALLOW_ANY = \? \UNC\domain\dfs$\*

    (no entries in other sections)

How can I open each PDF file for a session of UNC path via double-click since Explorer if Adobe Reader is still open?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Lisa

    Hi Lisa,

Can you please update your player to the latest version of 'Adobe Reader 11.0.9' and check that the problem persists.

    Hello

    ·         You have Microsoft Security Essentials on your computer?

If you have windows installed on your computer security essentials, then you will not be able to install Windows defender. Windows Security Essentials has antispyware component installed.

You get the error because you have installed MS Security Essentials, which has its own function to antimalware. You don't need or want to install Windows Defender, too. Leave MS Security Essentials installed and do not turn it off.

    original title: locked files.

I use a free AVG antivirus to analyze my laptop and always, he reports many locked files that cannot be verified. Most of them have the sign $ in front of their name, but I can't find them easily when I search for later, but they are mostly ordinary files that have been recently opened and closed. What are the locked files and can they be removed?

    Hello Omowright,

Thank you for posting.  This seems to be files that have been quarantined by moy.  This happens usually when your antivirus detects infected files and moves them to a waiting area where they can do no harm to your computer.  For more details on quarantine, I would say that you see the antivirus support site.

  • Cannot delete files locked in the temp folder

I emptied regularly delete all files in the temp via the function folder in the Tools menu of IE9 and also by searching on folder and deleting the contents of the temporary Local AppData file in the users folder.

Ten days ago, I found there are some files in the folder temporary AppData that were locked and could not be removed. This only happens in a user account, and this isn't an administrator account. Opening of properties on any of the files by checking the Security tab, I find I am wierdly the sole owner of the file, but have limited permissions. I tried to change the permissions to get total control and then remove the file, but that did not work, nor has anything else I could think of. This included the stop of all open applications and disconnects all users.

    Other file properties:

-Open with "Windows Shell Commo" - little matter that is.

-Similar names to ~ DF38C18158B32C1039. TMP

    -Attributes: ATI

-The size is small (512 bytes, for example)

    -No previous versions

Normally the files in this folder have names like this except without the ~.

After having in vain tried everything I could think of to delete these files, I downloaded Revo Uninstaller, who managed to remove all the files locked in the record at the time.  However, the problem resurfaced shortly after and this time Revo Uninstaller did not work.

I spent a few days of research on the net and try different options without success until I stumbled on a recommendation to go into Control Panel, search for Java, open its settings menu and refuse authorisation for Java to back up the data on my computer.  It worked - I went back in the folder, the files were no longer locked, I was able to remove them as I usually do and I had no other problems with the locked files. Until yesterday.

I double-checked the settings of Java to ensure that authorization still denied to save data on my computer. I don't remember now if I set permission to refuse when I checked again. I tried then to Revo Uninstaller again, but he failed again to remove these files locked. I noticed today that the date for all files is last July 15.  It seems (so far) no new files have been generated, but I still cannot delete locked files 51 of my computer.  My biggest concern, obviously, is security.  I don't want to locked files including origins, functions and activities that I do nothing on my computer, especially if I'm unable to remove them.

I want to know how to remove these files, what caused do them appear in the first place and how to prevent them from happening again.

    Thank you!

Thanks for this suggestion, Oberwald. It came a little too late, however.  Finally, it occurred to me to try my anti-virus software file shredder function and he managed to remove the locked files.

I believe now these locked files were likely due to some kind of malware - after shredding, my desktop Recycle bin flashed repeatedly icon when I shut down the computer. Also, after have logged you in today, I find everything runs much faster and no sign of keylogging.  Seem to be back to normal.

I was able to save the link and it will try in the future if necessary.

    Thanks again!

  • vCenter with Server Clustering with failover Windows - cannot lock the file

    Hi all

I am currently working on a MSCS cluster to vCenter. As described in the "VMware vCenter Server 6.0 availability Guide", it should be possible to add RDM disks for two virtual machines.

If I try to start the second vCenter VM, it throws the error "Could not lock file". For me this message looks like right because the first VM has a lock on the RDM disks. But for clustering, I need two VMS to be connected to the RDM.

Is there something that I missed?

You are using a SCSI controller dedicated just for the RDM disks and with the bus sharing configured for physical on both nodes? If this is not the case, see page 18.
