Clone the installation of ESX vSphere

Hi all

because I need to install several servers of vSphere ESX4.1, I would like to install, customize and clone first installation to deploy on other IBM servers and I would use acronis.

Of couse, I need change IP settings and name host, but using the new console-setup command will be very fast.

Test this on a vsphere VM works fine: don't you think that it should also work on production and of course without any possible future problems?

Thanks in advance.

You can use the script boot and PXE boot to have a massive facility.

For the configuration of CLI command use, so you can just copy and past on your hosts.

  • Question about the installation of ESX 3i on IBM HS21 Blade

Hello. I am trying to install the ESX 3i on the IBM HS21 Blade, but during which there was to "start VMware ESX 3i.......................... "and refuses to go forward.

In this screen, the process bar would normally at first and then quickly run 80% all of a sudden. Then he standed there.

I had tried another Blade (also ibm HS21) and ESXi image is guaranteed to be correct (in fact, the installation process was proved OK on another DELL server). The LIST is the following:

    1 VMware ESX 3i build 123639

    2 IBM HS218853 HSI

How could I do with it? Someone told me that maybe some of the HW in HS21 don't is not supported by ESX 3i, is it true?

PS: I tried to install the u3, ESX 3.5 on the HS21, too. Finally, the graphics mode cannot be loaded after the installation.

Try pressingf1 or ALTF12 ALT to see if there are error messages.  You have 1 or 2 physical processors installed?

So I just bought a new server to install ESX 3.5 on. I went through the procedure of installation and when he was done, he told me to reboot the server, so I did, but once the server starts it goes to the attached screen. I can't ping the ip address I put in place for the esx server or whatever it is, it is just on this screen do nothing. I tried to erase the disc from scrath and hard, but I still get the same error. What I've done wrong? Thank you.

I would also check the HCL to verify that there are no problems with the new server - http://partnerweb.vmware.com/comp_guide2/search.php

  • The migration of the VM from ESX 3.5 data center to data center inside the same building Vsphere

    Hi experts,

Currently, we have 5 servers ESX 3.5 and a San in a shelter in the United Kingdom. This kit is now over 3 years old and the company replaces the complete kit with a new SAN, new servers and Vsphere 4.0.

We have the opportunity to get new equipment to the top and running in the same shelter in Britain and are therefore able to run cable network between the two cabins if necessary.

What is the best way to migrate existing virtual machines from the old environment running to the new environment running Vsphere ESX 3.5? As mentioned only the two cabins will run in the same shelter so nothing needs to go on a WAN link.

IM keen to not load the machines on a USB key and move like that if I can help it. It appears from the research you cannot VMotion from one datacenter to another data center, however I can Storage VMotion between the two by using a method of migration cold?

Any help will be appreciated, thanks

Disconnect a host ESX to the old environment, connect it to the new environment. (this means now that the old host as part of the new vsphere cluster can still see the old SAN?)  Then use this host as the link between the two San as you can see both of them?)

Yes, presentation of the old drive will still be available on the assumption that it was not presentation of your San.  You can use a transit Host, which means that all the LUNS of the old environment and the new are presented to this host, but there will be a migration in a timely.  You have to vMotion invited to this host, unplug off the old environment and then in the new sVMotion (move the host and data store) to the new.  When this is done, unplug this transit host environment and add in the old, vmotion... Rinse and repeat.   Ideally, a presentation of the new LUNS to the old ESX host would be much faster.  In this way, you can bring your old environment together in the new. Make sense?

When I disconnect and reconnect the old host to the new environment, which also happens to the virtual machines on this host? I need to move temporarily turned off?

  • ESXi on HP BL460C to EVA SAN, Installer does not see the disk non - ESX(I) Although not

We have a BL460C with qlogic (QMH2462), talk to an EVA 4400 SAN with LUNS = 1 presented for a boot disk and LUN = 2 for the data store.

San switch is Silkier, if all the paths are visible.  We have installed ESX 3.5.0 u3 on this blade to the same LUN.  The goal is to support an environment entirely multichannel without interaction of zoning, so far all porous bones have been configured to work fine until we tried ESXi

When we try to install ESXi 3.5.0 u3 for the same logical unit number, the installer décompacte, starts, appears to find the discs and stops with an error "device cannot find support to write... on the image for.

Is there a driver/known compatibility issue with the ESXi installation program that prevents installation in a multi-channel environment?

I don't think that ESXi supports booting from SAN.  This is perhaps where the fuse box is.

You must use the local storage, or possibly a 1 GB (or more) USB stick to boot from.

    Hi all

We have several distributed sites based on vSphere 5 according to the installation program which are the ESXi host 5.1, 5.1 vCenter and a storage for each site... Now, we anticipate adding distributed locations all host esx to vCenter built one of our new site.

So, what should be the best way to achieve this.

    (1) is it advisable to add the distributed over wan to vCenter site on a different location?

    (2) can we also go with modes related? Since all our existing site already live, do we need to re - install vCenter to have bound mode installed?

    Concerning

    Varun Khatri

Hi, as long as you have enough bandwidth between sites, you can add you remote cluster to vcenter.  I've done this before and I had no problems.  Your approach depends on the configuration of your environment.  If you have existing vCenter installed on each site, you can use the linked modes, and you don't need to reinstall to set up connected mode. vSphere Documentation Centre

  • Connect the NAS (iSCSI) to vSphere using the crossover Ethernet cable

    Hello

I have a HP Proliant DL360 G5 in a data center (housing) directly connected to the internet. To save all the VM I would fix a NAS (QNAP with iSCSI) on the server. But given that the server is connected only to a 100 Mbps switch (supplier provide only 100 Mbit) I am looking for a direct solution to enjoy better performance.

I use on my Proliant Server internal dual port NIC (VMNIC0 and VMNIC1) and an additional port of double NC360T NIC (VMNIC2 and VMNIC3). I made two switches, with VMNIC0 and VMNIC2 vSwitch0 and vSwitch1 with VMNIC1 and VMNIC3 for redundancy. Each vSwitch has its own service with the public IP console.

Because I would like to continue using the above configuration, it came into my mind to buy an additional network (NC110T with 1 NIC) of the card and use a crossover cable directly to QNAP NAS. The NAS has two NIC, we'll be fixed as said to the ESX and directly to the internet (to manage from outside).

But now I don't know how to configure it. What should I do that the ESX will intervene to the NAS, and what type of IP address I need to adjust on the NAS to talk to the ESX?

What I have to configure a vSwitch2 (with physical adapter NC110T) and a new Console of Service with a private IP address: for example. 192.168.1.1 and the card NETWORK NAS Port that connects to the ESX, I put 192.168.1.2 and then it should be possible to work with ISCSI? I can then add the storage in vSphere?

I would really appreciate if someone understands perfectly how such things can give me an advice!

    Thank you very much

    Best regards

    Phil

It sounds like a good plan and you have the process down to the right.

    • After the installation of the new card as you did for the first configuration, you should see additional network cards.

      • You create a new vSwitch for the internal network segment that connects the NAS and ESX you note and add these network adapters

      • Then you create the port console and IP address on the private network

    • Now both devices may be

    • In QNAP, you create your iSCSI target or your NFS volume

    • For iSCSI you go to storage adapters - properties - add the ip address of the NAS and then close and discover

      • This should find the paths of the target.

      • Then you go into storage and add and format the iSCSI volume

    • For NFS, you go straight to the storage and add the name address and NAS volume and turn up the volume of storage

All storage will be visible and usable by ESX.

you have the beta version of the installation guide? Beta doc PXE boot section was:

    PXE boot

You can use the isolinux / on the image of the DVD ESX for PXE DΘmarrer Installer ESX. An example of following to tftp/pxelinux configuration file:

    VMware-Classic label

    the VMware-Classic menu label

    VMware-Classic/vmlinuz kernel

    Append initrd = VMware-Classic/initrd.img mem = 512M quiet

  • 6 - 1014NR envy: HP Envy 6 - 1014 upgrade to SSD prompting the Installation Windows disc

This laptop was purchased with a Windows 7 OS pre-installed.  A year ago, I took advantage of the free upgrade to Windows 10.  No problem and so far so good.

Today, I decided to upgrade my factory HDD to SSD performance.   I clone the drive HARD integer using Macrium Reflect and he went ase expected.

After passing on hard drives and cranking up the SSD, I am taken to the Windows Boot Manager screen.  It recognizes that I have a hardware change (HDD-> SDS) and he suggested that I demarrer start with Instalation of Windows disk, select language and next, before choosing the repair option.  How can I solve this problem I never got a Windows Setup disc (without CD player on this model)?

In the Windows Boot Manager, there is a following screen to select an operating system.  Although I can see the Windows 10 option, after you have selected the option I need just to return to the Windows Boot Manager screen.

You can provide any help would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

    You are the very welcome.

Unfortunately, I do not know what W10 gives you the repair options.

If there is a command line option, you can try running the repair options listed in the link below.

They are for W7, but maybe W10 uses the same commands.

    https://support.Microsoft.com/en-us/KB/927392

I would not invest too much time in the repair installation, because you will probably be able to clean install W10 and install all your programs and files in less time it will take to understand the problem (if you can).

I work in a lab environment that is not connected to an outside network. We run a simple domain controller in AD DS. We also administer a U1c 5.5 with about 20 mV and four hosts vSphere suite. Everything works on Server 2008 R2 (we do not have a license for anything beyond what I said). VMware vSphere that Single Sign-On is configured to integrate with the LDAP domain controller, that raises questions, but apparently this is a known issue with VMware and we work with them for a solution.

My question is is it Windows software out there (somewhere) that will allow a logging system on a single operating system modifications throrough? As during the installation of the application? Down to the fine details, such as changes to registry files? It would be very useful, but trace the source of a problem is a pain, we are at several different sources, just to try to find out why something was wrong.

There are various different problems which give rise to similar messages.  Here are a few things that can help.  If you get any errors along the way, please register completely for display in case you can not install it to succeed.

Re-download the package iTunes, but before that in this case, temporarily disable your antivirus (if you download directly from Apple, the file will be safe).

Open a command prompt window (start > run > cmd > OK) and type the 2 following lines, pressing ENTER after each line

    misexec / unsubscribe
    msiexec/regserver

Close the command prompt window and see if the installation works.

Otherwise, download and install the latest Windows Installer: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=8483

    Click Start > run > services.msc > OK
    Scroll down to Windows Installer
the "Startup type" should be "manual".
    Start the Windows Installer service
    Close the Services applet

    Try installing iTunes

Download the Windows Installer Cleanup of http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html know that Microsoft has removed this utility of its servers to download because in certain circumstances he removed more than it was supposed to.  For security, back up the registry first (see http://windowsxp.mvps.org/registry.htm ) or create a disc image/clone.

Use the free Revo Uninstaller(or cleaning) and repeat the installation of iTunes.

  • Windows Setup cannot reset the deployment engine. To install windows, restart the installation.

Background: I bought a new 1.5 TB Seagate Baracuda disk to replace my current 500 GB drive.

Symptoms: I removed the old drive and installed the new drive.  I try to install Vista 32.  I have spend entering setup, past the disk partitioning key, then get up at installation windows... never goes beyond 0% and this error pops up.  It's a never-ending cycle.

    Information on PC:
    HP Pavilion Media Center
    Model: M8100n
    RAM: 3 GB
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 2.8 GHz
    Chipset: GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
    Motherboard: ECS MCP61PM-HM (HP/Compaq name: Nettle2-GL8E)

    What I've done so far:
Update the BIOS & chipset drivers.
Using the same drive, I can install windows XP without problems.
Using the same player can I clone my existing to the new player (while it really works, I want a clean install and not a copy of the disc I have with it is that existing space)
Once I have clone the new drive I can do a fresh install of Vista from above (even once is not ideal and just wasting disk space)

The problem is that I can't delete all existing partitions, format my new drive and install Vista 32.

Problem is solved.  I don't have a chance to check the compatibility of the reader, but I found a solution that worked.  It turns out that the problem seems to have been a problem of formatting the drive via the Vista CD.  It's very frustrating when you get an error which is not defined anywhere, especially, a mistake by Microsoft that they document on their support pages.

Anyway, I would not normally copy / paste an answer, but it's the solution that worked for me that I found on another forum (thanks Mak)

    Download GParted.

    http://sourceforge.NET/project/mirror_picker.php?height=350&width=300&group_id=115843&use_mirror=superb-East&filename=gparted-LiveCD-0.3.3-0.ISO

Download and burn the ISO with ImgBurn:

    http://NeoSmart.NET/wiki/display/G/Burning+ISO+images+with+ImgBurn

From there load GParted with the CD in your taskbar. It is a bootable CD. From there, select the partition that you want to install to. right click on the partition and you will see the format option. Choose the NTFS option and format the drive. Then restart with the Vista DVD in the status bar.

Go through the startup process. It should work now.

The problem you are experiencing is related to the format. Vista does not have a formatting full it made just a short where it erases the data. The problem is that you have a damaged area on the hard drive that is causing this problem.

This will get rid of spot and allow installation to complete.

  • I can clone the o/s ONLY?

My son has a computer with Vista 64 bit and a 95% full 750 GB HARD drive. I gave him a hybrid drive (500 GB) and suggested to install a new copy of Vista on it, more drivers and programs and use the '750' to store the data. It doesn't have an installation disc...  Is it possible to "clone" ONLY the o/s from the original hard drive? I looked around and did not find anything useful.

    Newtech2140

    Hello

No.; You can't "extract" the BONES of this hard drive.

You can only clone the full contents of the hard drive.

If you want to reinstall Vista on another hard drive, read this information.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer (BUT it's only for the same hard drive).

But if you don't score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system on another hard drive.

Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.

If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • Install ESXi/ESX/Vsphere on a single isolated standalone workstation

In the hardware compatibility list, I noticed that the HP Z840 workstation is compatible with ESXi/ESX/Vsphere. In fact, the HP Z840 is the only HP computer that is not a server and still included in this list of compatibility.

For the moment, I have a unique stand-alone HP Z820 workstation.

If I decide to upgrade to a new computer HP Z840 independent, I will be able to install, configure and use ESXi/ESX/Vsphere on it and install top one, two or more systems of guest OS designed to run simultaneously, without having to connect this workstation Z840 even temporarily on another computer, separate console or network?

There are two types of virtualization-

    1 bare Metal virtualization-

ESXi is a virtualization software, have you install directly on the physical server from bare metal hardware. ESXi is very compact.

Then to manage ESXi host and create the virtual machine on ESXi host, you need a system more to run vSphere Client or use client Host.

ESXi directly access physical resources, which improve the performance of virtual machines.

    2 hosted virtualization-

VMware workstation is a hosted type virtualization software, install you it on any system Windows or Linux and then create virtual machine on it.

Windows underlying system provides material resources to virtual machines created in workstation that's why you get no good performance of the VM as compare to ESXi

Today VMware workstation 12 perform as well, if you simply create VMS to test or purpose LAB VMware workstation will also work.

For good performance, then you must ESXi host at least a Client system to manage ESXi and VMs.
