Cloning of vCenter Heartbeat

Documentation, 6.5.1 support physical-to-virtual and virtual (from an ESXi) to virtual (to an another ESXi)

What's on the use of VMware Converter to clone a vCenter virtual running on an ESXi 5.1 (stand-alone server to unique laboratory) to a virtual machine that will be animated by a VMware Workstation 8, they present a vCenter with failover to run updates on the single ESXi Update Manager and do not have to use command lines to update this single server?

Another tought. Is the server running under VMware Workstation should be considered as a physical node under Heartbeat definition in connection with the server running on the ESXi 5.1?

If you can use the converter to clone the machine, you will be able to install vCSHB on two virtual machines, one on the ESXi 5.1 and the other in the workstation.

As for the second question, no, you don't have to take account of the virtual machine running on the workstation as a physical.

The main difference between a physical and a virtual seconday, is that the virtual is a clone of the primary prior to installation of vCSHB and in the case of a physical Seconday, vCSHB not cloning during installation.

Another possibility for you would be to simply install a virtual machine on VMware Workstation with the same specifications as the one running on the ESXi (processor, memory, disk, OS) and then during the vCSHB select install secondary is physical. In this way vCSHB will do cloning.

What are the implications of the use of Log insight with vCenter Heartbeat?  If vCenter server heartbeat Eve, insight Journal will continue to operate without interruption or loss of newspapers as the failover takes place?

Are there special configurations specific to the use of Log Insight with heartbeat?

The vCenter Heartbeat is to keep a backup of vCenter server available at all times. This is achieved through a mechanism of steps that ensures that everything that happens on the primary instance of vCenter server is also on the secondary server instance, vCenter. Given that the configurations of the server vCenter instances are guaranteed the same, newspaper Insight would not be able to tell the difference.

However, vCenter heartbeat supports three types of configuration: LAN, stretched LAN and WAN. For LAN and LAN stretched assets vCenter Server's IP address is moved during failover. For WAN, during a failover Exchange IP address of the instance of vCenter server, but pulse warns DNS change. Because with LAN and LAN stretched the IP address of the instance of vCenter server remains the same, newspaper Insight will continue to work as expected once the recovery has taken place and the new primary instance of vCenter server sent a free ARP. In the WAN configuration, the IP address of vCenter Server changes. If you have configured Log Insight to connect to the instance of vCenter Server by IP address then after failover Log Insight will not be able to collect information from the new vCenter server IP address. In this case, you must change the configuration of log Insight and the new IP address would be considered a completely separate vCenter server instance. If you have configured Log Insight to connect to the instance of vCenter by FULL domain name server then Insight journal will pick up the change on the next polling interval. If you end up in a State where Log Insight is no longer perceives the information from one instance of vCenter server, once the issue has been addressed, Insight Journal will collect information all gaps between where he was and where it was fixed. In short, Insight journal keeps track of the latest information collected from one instance of vCenter server and can collect the missing information.

In short, Journal Insight should work with vCenter Heartbeat even if it only is not officially supported at this time (by the interoperability matrix). If you use vCenter Heartbeat in a WAN configuration, then you must enable vSphere integration with a FULL domain name for the vote will continue to operate after the failover. I hope this helps!

  • vCenter Heartbeat and vCenter Failed

If vCenter Heartbeat is used to replicate the vCenter Server, then that server vCenter can't then some esxi hosts this vCenter Server manages will be they will automatically move to the other server vCenter Server or we need to do it manually?

vCenter Heartbeat is a cluster solution that protects services vCenter, so you will have two primary servers and secondary, one of the server would be active and others being passive.

Incase if the Active Server fails, HB will failover services vCenter vCenter to the passive node. No further action to perform.

  • NIC physical or virtual dedicated & vlan for vCenter Heartbeat?

I am writing a paper on the recommendations and requirements of vCenter Heartbeat 1...

It seems unclear to me if the functionality of pulsations of vCenter need dedicated physical NIC when VC is running in a virtual machine?

VC goes. Heart rate requires dedicated physical NIC or only vNIC & lt;-& gt; dedicated vSwitch is required?

    Thanks in advance

    : o).

I guess that your VC is running in a virtual machine? VC with Heartbeat requires a minimum of two vNIC with every heartbeat (each vNIC, but the first) vNIC on a dedicated vSwitch. Since a physical NETWORK card can only below a unique vSwitch, this configuration requires at least two cards physical network. Basically, this means that you need at least two network adapters for and two physical network adapters to configure the heartbeat in a VC run in a virtual machine. For redundancy reasons, it makes sense to have multiple physical network cards in a vSwitch for grouping of NETWORK cards. Therefore, you should really have at least four physical NICs (two by vSwitch) in a production environment.

  • vCenter Heartbeat on another subnet WAN

Hi all, the documentation is not very clear around that. An installation of vCSHB over a WAN link with different subnets a require a separate public IP in addition to the secondary management IP?

    Thank you

From page 29 of the install guide:

vCenter Server Heartbeat supports sites with different subnets. In this scenario, the primary and secondary nodes in the vCenter Server Heartbeat pair require unique public IP addresses, unique VMware Channel IP addresses for every node in a different subnet and IP addresses of single management for each node in the subnets of the same public IP addresses. During installation, select the IP addresses different secondary use (recommended for the secondary DR) and specify the IP addresses public of both the secondary node and the head node.

  • Several cloning for vCenter vCenter vCenter

I hope I can express this question, so please forgive me if I cannot explain in detail the scenario, but here goes:

We originally had a single vCenter Server (physical Mahcine) with two visible in it data centers, one in New Jersey and the other in SC. We decided to do two new virtual vCenters one with a data center called NJ and the other with a data center called SC. In our old vcenter, we had a script automated CLI power who cloned a machine in the datacenter of SC, to remove the NIC card, he converted to model and then cloned it on the side of the data center NJ over the WAN. The script looked a little like this:

    ######################

    SE connect-VIServer vCenter

    ######################

    $Temp = get-Template-name "SERVER_CLONE_TODAYSDATE" <-this exists in the SC data center

    $VMHOSTNJ = "hostname1 - 1.domainname.com.

    ######################

    New-model - $(get-modèle $Temp)-name "SERVER_CLONE_TODAYSDATE" - location NJ - VMHost Datastore - NJ_DS_04 - DiskStorageFormat $VMHOSTNJ - thin confirm: $false

In the past when this script would go on a single vcenter who managed two data centers, if clone the model to the data center of NJ in the root folder. Now with the new game by being a vCenter in New Jersey and a vCenter in SC operating in linked mode, so that I can not get the deployment script the model over the WAN. I get the error:

New-model: 30/10/2013-11:05:19New-modelThe arguments must be from the same server.

I have njvcenter Connect-VIServer - AllLinked and scvcenter Connect-VIServer - AllLinked in the script now, but still can not overcome this barrier of the cloning of the model on the WAN. I enabled Set-PowerCLIConfiguration-DefaultVIServerMode - multiple user scope.

Is there a way to any act of brilliance script that someone can provide that may allow for me to continue with this automated process of new in any of these two related vcenters?

I tried a few variables such as parameters:

    $VMHOSTNJ = get-VMHost "hostname.domainname.com" - Server njvcenter

    $NJDATASTORE = get-Datastore NJ_DS_05 - Server njvcenter

    $NJFOLDER = get-folder "~ SC to NJ cloning"-Server njvcenter

And then placed them in my script in an effort for the script to run the clone of the scvcenter, but know to turn to the njvcenter for the - location - data store - VMHost

If it's confusing, I apologize if you have questions ask away, we want to get to a two purposes of failover vcenter environment, however the script reduces the time more then an hour on which would take nearly 4 hours to complete manually. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Cloning by vCenter

We have two clusters ESXi4.1 vSphere (production, development) that are on networks physically separated due to our policy of corporate security.  Our vCenter 4.1 server resides on the network of producation, but has a second NETWORK adapter with a network drop in development network to manage the development pole.

He asked for clone production virtual machines for the pole of development, but it seems requires the production cluster have connectivity to the network development which we do not want to do.  We wonder if we can exploit our vCenter server, which was authorized to have connectivity to two networks.   We cannot close the vCenter server to a router for all traffic between networks, but vCenter natively manage the part of data transfer from the cloning process? If this isn't the case, someone has another simple method to clone virtual machines between clusters phsically proprietary networks?

Thanks is advance for any help

    Charles

Do you use a shared storage. In this case, you should consider to the update (s) LUN to your hosts the production (s) to do the cloning. This way you don't need to open access to the network from the network of development.

  • vCenter Heartbeat memory Pages / s value exceeded

    Hey community,.

    I get the following error...

"VMware vCenter Server Heartbeat yellow alert: warning of the Application.". This happened to my Jul 20 11:13:01 CDT 2009 on the primary SVCTEST-OLA01 while active. "More information if they are available: triggered rule: Memory Pages / s exceeded value." When this error is triggered, the replication seems to hang and it's hard to pass. I need to restart the heartbeat on both servers to get going again. This happens several times a day

VMware vCenter server / Heartbeat run in a V2V environment. Each virtual machine has 4 GB of Ram, 1 vCPU, C:\ 16 GB (OS), D:\ 12 (DB data), E:\ 20 GB (VUM). The primary VMDK is sitting on a disc of 8 Raid 10 FC LUN on a CX700 (LUN as moderate maximum use). The school sits on a LUN of similar specifications except on a CX500.

The real kicker is that this environment is entirely free of charge and test environment. A single test host is registered with this vCenter. No VMs are saved. It is a deployment of Wan through a VPN from a data center in the Central time zone to a data center in the Pacific time zone.

Anyone has any ideas what can cause this error?  Maybe it related to only 1 vCPU on the VM?

    Thank you

Jkasal, the settings defined for the system of operat performance are the typical recommendations of Microsoft by default, and may need to be adjusted to a base line can be set for the implementation of action. Also this alarm will delete itself once that the return of values to normal then it may be just a case of enrichment at the start or even because state you it is a vacuum environment.

  • installation of Heartbeat on P2P environment

    Hello

I wanted to have a few resilliance with Vcenter and we bought vcenter Heartbeat, we will use in a P2P environment.

Currently, I have 1 Server vCenter 2.5 installed and SQL server (on the same box) SQL data is stored on a disk on the SAN (100 GB for the DB)

The SQL data on the San disk) is E:\ drive on the vcenter server.

The second server is exactly the same material, but I only installed windows server (the same version has the Vcenter server) with all the patches of victory.

I also created another disc of 100 GB on the SAN for the DB and is also the E:\ Walk on the second server.

When you install VCenter Heartbeat, should I install SQL (and perhaps Vcenter) on the second server? or the NT backup process clones all drive included the SQL data disk? It is not very clear in the documentation. I don't know if it will create a complete Clone?

FYI, we are using Vmware View 3.1

Thank you very much in advance for your answers.

    Nicolas

Assets (production) server there is no interruption of service until the verification steps that the test facility are met which can be later during a maintenance window (don't let long that the system would be not tested for failover)

Cloning with NTBackup is by design mainly to keep the application only, and then replicate the data during the initial synchronization, data can be replicated a lot faster than writing a backup/copy of files in the file backup and restore from it, in addition to the backup file will get very big to manage if including the default data. Generally, it takes only the SQL databases in the default location (c:\programfiles\SQL\data etc.). When the solution is launched upward passive server applications are actually, SQL and vCenter will remain in a State stopped until the switch/failover when they come online and the data has been synchronized.

  • Failover the VM device even vCenter site?

We currently have vCenter running as follows:

    Site = THE

    | _ _ _ _ Cluster = SGI2K10

    | _ _ _ _ Cluster = SGISK12

    | _ _ _ _ Cluster = SGI2K13

VCenter device currently lives on the cluster in vCenter in the site of THE "SGI2K10." We would like to add a 2nd 'Site' called 'FL' so it would look like:

    Site = THE

    | _ _ _ _ Cluster = SGI2K10

    | _ _ _ _ Cluster = SGISK12

    | _ _ _ _ Cluster = SGI2K13

    Site = FL

    | _ _ _ _ Cluster = SGI2K14prod

    | _ _ _ _ Cluster = SGI2K14test

Is someone can you please tell me if I can do the following:

    1. Add a 2nd instance of vCenter site that already works our vCenter soul of the SGI2K10 cluster unit as "fail-over" snack of our vCenter apparatus is damaged or fails?

    2. can I add vCenter device to the new site of FL I create and manage primary vCenter unit running on the site of THE?

    1. as has been pointed out by Richardson, vCenter Heartbeat is the product that provides active/passive failover for the vCenter Server capabilities. However, this product is only available in the Windows version of vCenter Server, NOT for the vCenter Server device.

2 vCenter device does not support the related modes so you can't do at the moment.

  • vCenter single point of failure to see?

Hi, we are implementing a small view deployment of approximately 200 workstations virtual 5.1. I have a drawing using 2 connection servers and security with a load balancer 2 servers to guard against a single point of failure.

I intend using a cluster for the DBs backend SQL, but I'm still stuck with how to protect the vCenter/composer. I have only a single 3-node cluster to work with, so I can't use more than one server vCenter/composer.

How do you handle this in your environments?

    Thank you

vCenter in a deployment of view is more important, then in an environment Server pure since it feeds and provisioning operations.

If vCenter is down while it won't happen, but the environment view will still work.

So that means that you must have a procedure in place to be able to restore the functionality of vCenter as soon as possible.

vCenter Heartbeat is a addon-product from VMware that can protect against the BONE, material and application failure is necessary.
