error message when I click on update windows. code no.   0 x 80080005 and my windows defender is turned on to and turn manually, what should I do?  My ps is vista Home premium and I downloaded the pack 2 prior to the error to happen, thank you! milkway

If you have Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, McAfee, Norton, etc. installed, they have a conflict with Windows Defender, or turn it off.

Microsoft Security Essentials has its own integrated version of the defender and should automatically disable the version of Vista in Windows Defender.

If it's not:

Turn Windows Defender on or off the information on the link above of Microsoft.

After carefully installing Windows 7, Windows update tells me that I must install a critical update for the graphics card to Nvidia 9600 m GS on my Touchsmart, but every time I start the process, the download fails with the error code 80070005. • 800b0100 error code when you try to install Windows updates KB974145 and KB978251

    Greetings and salutations:

    Any help would be appreciated.

I tried to install these 'important' updates several times with the same result - updates failed, error 800b0100 code. I downloaded and installed the KB974821 tool - tells me it installed - same problem. (I don't know if I'm supposed to do something else with KB974821 - I have to "run" or just "installed" it enough?) Instructions could certainly be clearer)

I tried to download and install the updates manually - without success - I get various error messages, like "does not apply to your system" or "for a different hardware platform.

I tried this with my firewall/antivirus close as well - using Trend Micro - and still no luck.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions, help? Very much appreciated. Thank you.

BTW, I'm running VHP 64 with Service Pack 2 installed. Nothing should be this complicated or frustrating.

    Additional information:

In another forum, where I posted this inquiry (I was told is the right place to post it here) I was advised on how to get the results of the KB947821 tool that I ran.  (Why this information was not given instructions on how to use the tool is beyond me). The only thing I changed hardware wise is the hard drive, so this error message seems silly because Windows runs on this material.  I even double checked that Vista is always enabled.  Anyone out there have any ideas?

Hello! And welcome to the Microsoft Forums!

From my experience with several ISOs of Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, and even 10, I can tell you that the 0x8007025d error means that the installation media is corrupted.

This type of error appears on the official Microsoft Media tool too.

The issue seems more likely when choosing Windows 8.1 (no N or PRO).

The issue could be fixed only by downloading the same or a different ISO image again. In addition, it flashes again on the USB port or the burn on DVD another using a speed more SLOW can increase the success rate.

Also: Don't forget to check the SUM of the ISO downloaded to see if it matches the amount on Microsoft Download Page.

This ensures that the file has been downloaded without problem and is not corrupted or altered somehow.

Remember to use only the official Microsoft ISOs to avoid viruses and other security threats.

    Help, please!

I am running Vista Home Premium 32 bit on SP2.

I just had my McAfee security expires and since I was not able to install security updates.

I uninstalled McAfee and searched my system to make sure that it is completely gone, then I installed Microsoft Security Essentials.

I was able to update its definitions of once and since I was not able to do so once again - instead, I get the error message "Virus and Spyware definitions update failed" and the code of error 0x80072efe
