Hello

We have some 10gr 2 DR of installation,

We are planning for the cold primary database backup on every Sunday.

It's going to affect DR sync if the primary database is not available at the time of the cold backup.

    Hello

    It wouldn't affect the sync of DR. You perform the backup to cold, there is no generation of archives and would not be a out of sync of so the Dominican Republic.

  • Restore database from a cold backup

    Hi all

    We use Oracle Database 11 g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 on SunOS 5.11.

    We have a database of primary and physical standby.

    We used to catch a cold backup of database pending. Now we want to restore the cold backup and as primary (scénarion of building our database main and backup have been planted and we have cold backup standby?.)

    We have done following the steps.

    1 copy the cold backup on server

    2. Mount the backup database

    3. perform the pint in time recover by issuing the fllowing command

    to recover a database on hold until cancel;

    4. apply some archived files and then CANCEL

    5 issue command to change the mode as "THE PRIMARY", as a result

    ALTER database recover managed standby database finish; and received followig error (alert log file)

    We successfully restore the database and swithover the primary status after completing the steps:

    1. Cold backup on server
    2. Mount the database on hold
    3. Perform the recovery point in time by issuing the fllowing command
      1. recover database until cancel; pending
      2. Applied some files and then CANCEL
    4. Delete the log files waiting for redo
      1. change the Group of clear database logfile
    5. Recovery of eve of finishing
      1. ALTER database recover managed standby database finish;
    6. Issue following command to change the mode of "PRIMARY."
      1. change the database for validation to the passage at the elementary level with the end of the session;
    7. Open database
      1. ALTER database open;
    8. The redo log files
      1. Alter system switch logfile;
    9. Restart the database

    Earlier, we had missed step # 4.

  • A question about the cold backup

    Hello

    I have a question about cold backup. We have a sun server which will be completely rebuilt because of a few hardware problems. This is dev. DB and noarchivelog mode. I have the cold backup of databases. (all control files, data files and I also copied redo log files)
    but the restore operation said that, for the restoration of the database that only the control and data files must be restored and redo log files should not be restored. My question is: in this case how oracle will find redo log files online? because the server is rebuilt, in redologs online directory, there will be no files, so it works?
    I mean I should give the recovery of database until cancel but oracle will create the new files logs by himself again?

    Thank you
    Cedric

    oradba wrote:

    Werner

    Why do a "recovery" at all? In the case of the OPs, it indicates that there is a cold backup, including the redologs. Why not just "restore" all files to their original location on the rebuilt server and start the database?

  • Is make Journal required for backup of database hot and cold water?

    Hi Experts,

    Please explain--again it takes to backup of database hot and cold water?

    Thank you

    Did you backup managed user or RMAN backup. In RMAN backup, you only need logs archived. But in the cold backup managed user, you don't need the redolog also if the PB was properly arrested. Jut copy the DBF and controlfile and put it there to the target server and during the recovery of redolog files will be created automatically.

    Please note that the database must be correctly stopped before cold backup is taken.

  • How Controlfile SNA remain synchronized after moving the database with the cold backup

    Hello DBAs,

    I doubt that:

    Every time you pass a cold backup database. We create a new controlfile with new locations of data/redologs etc.

    And then we execute "create controlfile reuse...". noresetlogs...; "to create the controlfile.

    After that, we will open the database as > > alter database open;

    Now the question is:

    We are able to open the database without clause "resetlogs.

    Here, we create a new controlfile so SNA to controlfile will not be synchronized with the SCN of the datafile and redo the file.

    Please let me know how the new controlfiles' SNA is synchronized with the data file and redofile and wea are able to open the database without resetlogs clause.

    Oracle: 11.2.0.4

    OS: Linux

    If your cold backup also includes online redo logs, a RESETLOGS is not necessary.

    The controlfile is created if it does not have a SNA, it reads the data file headers the YVERT database. For a cold backup, all the headers of data file are consistent.  (This is also the reason why a RECOVERY is not required).

  • Recover the database by using cold backup

    Hi all

    One of the table is deleted accidentally by one of our DBA of PROD. We have a backup to cold on a day before.

    Now, we try to restore from the backup to cold. DB PROD is in archivelog and all the archives are in tact.

    The resulting table truncated today at 20:00. We can apply the database until 20:00 so that we can restore the table truncated using cold backup.

    Please find the steps we use to restore below.

    create controlfile

    from the db in State of Mt.

    recover the database;

    It will ask for last log archive when we try to get it back.

    ENV details-

    DB - 11.2.0.1

    Please suggest.

    Thank you

    create controlfile

    from the db in State of Mt.

    recover the database;

    This method is not correct. Here are the four steps for incomplete recovery (which is what you need):

    Mount the database

    restore all data files

    recover the database up to the...

    ALTER database open resetlogs

    Your DBA (who say you was responsible for the error) will be familiar with the routine. Or it should be.

  • cold backup can use archivelog to recover the database to the point of failure?

    Hello

    I have little doubts. In any DB saying we have following conditions:

    (1) DB is running in ARCHIVELOG mode.
    (2) cold backup is performed every Sunday.
    (3) no backups hot or the RMAN backup is taken.

    so if any failure occurs during the week say Friday. can recover us our database to the point of failure with cold backup? If yes then pls specify the steps how to do it.

    Archiving log could apply on cold backup?

    Thank you
    Shailesh

    Yes. Just make sure that you use "with the HELP of BACKUP CONTROLFILE' so that Oracle ignores the sequence numbers and the SNA in the controlfile and guard"rolling-forward"until the last archivelog that provide you.
    If you have not lost all over again the logs files and want a complete recovery, you must provide log redo file names "as if they have been archived" after applying the last archivelog. This way, you will be able to achieve a complete recovery.
    Of course, you will need to OPEN RESETLOGS.

  • A question about the restoration of cold backup (backup of control file is not clear)

    Hello

    I had another question about restoring from backup to cold. My database is in noarchivelog mode and after that take a consistent backup of cold, all I have to do is restore the backup right? -Why I got this question is because: when I save my control to trace file, I see statements like this: -.
    -Orders to recreate the table of the incarnation
    -Under journal names MUST be replaced by names of existing files
    -disc. The log files from each branch can be used for
    -re - create the folders of the incarnation.
    -LOGFILE of REGISTRY ALTER DATABASE ' / uo1/app1/arch1_1_647102958.dbf';
    -Recovery is required if any of the data files are restored backups.
    - or if the last shutdown was not normal or immediate.
    RECOVER THE DATABASE
    -Database can now be opened normally.
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN;
    -----
    My database is in noarchivelog mode now so don't know why these statements (of the registry the logfile) is there in the backup of the control file? so when I restore the cold backup of this database, it will still work OK? (there is no log file I only have the CRD files in cold don't backup - no log file archive.)

    Thank you
    Cedric

    It is a generic message in trace control file. It's not affect you.

  • Can we take a backup of database pending?

    Hello

    Can we take backup of database pending when the don't use no DataGuard? If Yes, can I restore that backup of my primary database?

    Oracle 11.2.0.3 Standard

    Kind regards

    Melo.

    Rafael Melo says:

    Jhon,

    Thank you for your quick response. I just did not understand clearly what that means "not being able to depend on RMAN to follow...» ». Please, can you explain that?

    OBS.: the first time that you intend to use on the eve of the database.

    Kind regards

    Melo - Br

    Think of the RMAN Repository. How one will distinguish between files that are part of the primary and which are part of the manual standby? In a Data Guard environment, he can, because you can save all db_unique_names. You do not have this feature with an old manual.

  • Cold backup RMAN

    Basically I ask this question for a problem surrounding in another thread, but here go us:

    Suppose we take a COLD backup. I know, not something directly related with RMAN, but further action is:

    This guy says: I take a backup to cold, I copy the files to another server, on which he has made the necessary in order to start this database.

    But then, since the backup and the time of the action above, time is up.

    So, there are archived redologs... because the database is in archivelog mode.

    And he wants to do what is obvious: use these Redos archived, to update the database at a later stage in time.

    To be clear; the Oder archived are created by the source database. The target database has been copied and started, nothing else.

    If the backup is a backup hot, without issue. But because the backup is cold, it is not possible, right?

    My idea is that he must also take a hot backup, in addition.

    I asked already, and despite the execution of the database in archivelog mode, the backup must be taken cold, backup mode for some reason. It is probably the old method, who they now want to just add redolog recovery, but without change from cold to hot.

    At some point, RMAN must be running, of course.

    I guess that RMAN is used for the entire operation, not "at some point" (I see no reason not to).

    The cold food at the start is to make a clone. THEN, the question is asked, but can we also restore to a point more recent in time?

    Yes, you can recover the "clone" until a more recent point in time as long as you do not OPEN it, and you have all necessary archivelogs. The sequence:

    1 startup nomount

    2 restore controlfile

    3. change the editing of the database

    4 restore your cold backup (do not open the database)

    5. If necessary, catalogue archivelog backups

    6 back to the desired point in time

    7. alter database open resetlogs.

    But I repeat, why did you stop your databases, if that is not necessary? (of course I think of my dozens of databases 24 x 7).

  • DG advice backup, backup the database ensures 11 GR 2

    Hello world

    I have a few problems with the way backups are installed in my DG Environment. I searched high and low and not really found an easy answer to how set up your backups DG.

    It is said this, another says that. So I ask here in the forum.

    What is the right way to safeguard a DG Environment? Some emissions of debates just do a normal backup on the standby only, another says that you must back up the controlfiles primary as well (this is where my problem begins)

    We have recently upgraded a DB 11 GR 1 material in GR 11, 2 and now the old system no longer works. The old plant was on standby and spfile backup + controlfile backup on the primary node. this moment fails with an invalid sequence of function calls ANU2614E to the Protection of data for Oracle (tape backup)

    This particular error occurs when I run a backup controlfile on the primary before the backup on the previous day. If I jump the backup controlfile on the primary, standby backup properly, including the controlfile + spfile.

    There is also an obsolete script delete running in each script (controlfile backup etc.), could also questions cause I guess. But it worked well in 11 GR 1 material.

    So I'm tender hand, trying to find the right way of backup, everyone says different.

    Sincerely

    Johnny

    What is the right way to safeguard a DG Environment?

    Support of primary or secondary is more correct than the other.

    You can use a backup made on the previous day in order to restore and recover a database and vice versa.

    Data files, control files and archive backups are interchangeable in a Data Guard environment.

    Where you backup should depend on the load. If the primary can handle the load without causing a problem with ALS then I would backup here.

    The main things I'd do with Data Guard RMAN are as follows:

    Select the block change tracking.

    Always use the auto backup.

    Always use an FIU.

    Keep Flashback Database.

    And always put this on the primary (CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY to APPLIED on all THE previous DAY ;))

    Sequence ANU2614E invalid.

    Strange, if you use a third-party software with RMAN I could check this:

    RMAN fails ORA-19511 ANU2614E invalid sequence of function calls to the Protection of data for Oracle (Doc ID 1300134.1)

    Otherwise, I opened a support ticket as soon as POSSIBLE.

    Best regards

  • Need for clarification for cold backup and restore

    Hi all...

    I have a lot of confusion about the cold backup and restore section.

    Already I posted a scanario this topic and I would like to know a few points of clarity to understand.

    1. I had cold backup two days before
    2. I create an object * (EMP) * and inserting some records can deliver log switch continiously.
    3. manually I deleted all the physical files (data files, files of control, files, papers, redolog files)
    4. then I published STARTING FORCE MOUNT;
    5. in this case, I get error identification control file.
    6. cold two days before all of the restored files backup
    6 then I run database recovery using backup controlfile until cancel;
    7. I'm issuing select * from emp; I get error
    select * from EMP
    * ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
    my QUESTION IS

    After that cold backup is complete, I created the table emp...
    during the restoration of old back "there is no emp table"

    * - Then I can retrieve table emp? -If Yes, please explain about this... *.

    Note: REF - LINK https://forums.oracle.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=11056341#11056341

    -Link above says what I did? In this thread, I ask you to concept and logic...

    Please, consider NOT like ' * DOUBLE. "

    Not sure why you're confusing this issue? In your other thread, you applied a backup who had two days and there is no evidence that you apply to this log file to archive that had the table create in it. So if you have not restored this log file to archive who had your create table command, it will not be recovered. The most important for you to understand, it's that you have to have the newspaper the point for which you want to retrieve other archiving your recovery will not be able to move forward.

  • Re: is the cold backup of rman includes onlinde redologs?

    Hello

    cold backup of rman includes onlinde redologs?

    So that at the time of the recovery when I restore the database the redologs online also restored at this point?

    Please, please add your suggestions. I read in 10g database in condition to mount everything taking the backup RMAN as cold as the oracle process overall are down we cannot copy the redologs online.
    Am I correct, otherwise please someone answer me why the redologs online are not copied.

    Thanks in advance
    SAI

    A cold backup (i.e., MOUNT but not given) to RMAN does not backup online redo logs.

    If you restore this backup you will need OPEN RESETLOGS to recreate the online redo logs to the target.

    Hemant K Collette

    PS: Oracle Documentation prefers to call an RMAN backup backs "Cohérent" when the database is mounted but the State is not OPEN. "Cold Backup" is today used for the non-RMAN methods.

    RMAN never backup online redo logs.

    If you ever need to restore a database that had been saved cold with rman, you'd end up working with an alter database open resetlogs, which will create newspapers online brand new, empty.
