Combining artists in iTunes 12

I'm having the problem that 12 iTunes creates multiple versions of the same artist. I am aware of the order read, to use Album artist to variations/group camps, and I checked the name of the artist is exactly (no extra spaces, etc.). I tried to make changes to individual tracks, albums and even the artist, but so far without success to get all the objects under a name of artist. Indeed, during this process, I created another version of the artist for a total of three!

I am running Yosemite 10.10.5 and iTunes 12.3.2.35

Anyone else having this problem?

Are you only interested if other people have this problem? If so, the answer is probably 'yes' and we can leave it at that.

Quick response: select all the tracks on the album, file > info (or right-click > news > details) and give them all a single "album artist", or check the indicator of "compilation" (as in https://discussions.apple.com/message/17670085#17670085).

If they are several CD sets, you will also need to enter the appropriate information in the fields of number of disk.  If they are not a set of multiple CDs that you must always make sure any vacuum or disc number fields are properly defined.

If they are mp3 files are trying to change the version of the ID3 tag, which can cause iTunes to re - write the tags and clarify inconsistencies.  I use iTunes 7.5 (Yes, from 2007) so I can't tell you where it is in later versions.

I had a case of grouping stubborn reality.  The tracks will be re-group in a way that has no meaning when I changed metadata.  Without going into details, I deleted tracks iTunes completely, then add the files and they are all grouped together correctly.

  • Several artists on iTunes

Anyone know why there are several artists in iTunes? See example below:

I don't know why it happens, but I can suggest ways to fix it.

If iTunes displays multiple instances of an artist or an album then generally what works is to select all the associated tracks and use read the information to add say an end X for each of the areas of the slopes have in common:

    • For an album. Album, Album artist, and artist (if the artist is the same for all tracks) *
    • For an artist; Album artist (and the artist unless there are comments/featured artists listed which should not be changed)

Apply the change which merges things together, then remove the excess characters. Occasionally, it can help to close and reopen iTunes between two renaming operations.

    * If the titles must be synchronized to a non - iOS device, there should be a common artist or the album must be defined as a Compilation.

Use the view of songs and display fields, Album, genre, Album, Album artist, genre artist Album, artist and genre artist side by side to see you whether or not it is necessary to change the artist and if sorting values could be the cause of additional problems. See grouping in albums, titles for help if necessary.

Another tip duplicates stubborn reality. I had three batches of various artists in the view of artists in my iTunes game library the other day that would not respond to usual treatment X back. What I found worked was adding the final X, but with each group, iTunes wanted to separate start typing a value and let iTunes autocomplete of the Var... for various artists. Collection of AutoComplete lists seemed to work when the full value of collage/montage does not.

  • How to merge artists in iTunes 12

Anyone know how to properly merge artists in iTunes 12?

The question: "Pearl Jam" lists as distinct to in iTunes 12.3 artists artists, as if it were a separate, different artist. I went in sort mode songs and apparently changed artist, Album artist, genre artist and genre artist Album all to Pearl Jam, closed iTunes and reopened and the problem persists. Individual music files are all under Pearl Jam in the file Finder system. Boring!

Try to enter all tracks from Pearl Jam at the same time, change the same four fields to Pearl JamX, apply the change and then remove the back X.

  • How can I find the bio artist in iTunes 12.5?

I like to read about the artists that I love.

I'm able to easily find this information in Spotify, for example, but I can't find it in iTunes.

    Please notify

iTunes has really such a feature at the present time, there have been experiences in earlier versions. You can right-click on an artist or album, then go to > view in iTunes Store. Albums usually have comments and sometimes there will be a full biography of an artist or group.

My iTunes is a little messed up and for a few months now. Whenever I have add a new song, it sorts as a new artist, even if they have exactly the same name (I checked all the different fields etc.) So that means that I found with about 8 variations of the artist, who seems very messy. It will happen on the albums as well.

  • icon dock or desktop for specific combinations of library/itunes

My wife and I have different iTunes libraries on our iMac, but I'm looking for an easier way to switch between libraries to Option - < click iTunes > and then search for the library on the right. I prefer to create a script (shell, terminal command line option, etc.) to allow my wife click Desktop or dock icon to start iTunes configured to read his library.

Just use a library and synchronize you want to each device.

  • work for artists seen in iTunes

Everyone knows this problem. Apparently, they withdrew for the cover art of the artist column and replaced by pictures of Apple's music artists.

  • iTunes 12.4 missing "Sort by artist."  Only sorts by the artist of the album.

I spent hours to be arranged by library to be able to change the field name, rather than name, artist name.  (If I want to find Buddy Holly, I look under B, not H).  Then, I could choose to sort by artist.  (And BTW, stop the Match completely, because just renames all of what he wants.)

Today, I downloaded itunes 12.4 and it immediately destroys all my work.  I'm happy to be proven wrong here, but we have lost the ability to choose how to sort.  ITunes is the culprit to sorting by artist Album when you access a list of artist.  Is no longer, we can deal with the field of the artist.  Why must iTunes make it so difficult?

Can someone tell me if I'm missing something?  Thank you.

Since the introduction of the Album artist field (iTunes 7) sort by artist has been controlled by the first non-empty value of: Type Album artist , Album artist, Genre artist, artist.

In general I expect to see Buddy Holly in the artist and fields artist album and the sort fields empty. It usually takes an extra effort to fill in the fields to sort with a scheme such as < name >, < name > as typical iTunes and Gracenotes deliver information such as < name > < name >.

  • Songs from the album split into separate albums/artists, even with the same name

I have three songs from the album, all by the same artist, but for a reason, that they aren't bringing together under the same album or artist on iTunes. All the songs are listed separately under different artists even if the name of the artist (and album) is exactly the same:

The same artist and album has duplicated only three times.

I made sure all the info of the song are exactly the same as here:

And sorting is the same too:

So I don't know what else to do.

If you see unexpected songs groups when you browse an album - https://support.apple.com/HT204538 - 'songs from the same album may not be grouped as expected when you view them in display Albums in iTunes."

  • Question of iTunes radio.

Names of artists in iTunes are greyed out, very small, about as obscure as they can make them. Is it possible to change this? It is an insult to the artists Apple benefiting so much.

You can view the names of the artists more large holding the COMMAND key and tapping the button +.

    Thank you!

    Hello 2016Tanya,

    Welcome to Apple Support communities.

I see that once you checked to follow an artist in iTunes, it tends to go back and follow for many artists. It's something that I certainly wouldn't have to happen. I want to help you ensure that you can follow all of your artists.

First of all, to leave the iTunes app by following this path: iTunes > quit iTunes. And then give your Mac a fresh reboot.

Then, once your computer turns on, try and see if you are now able to follow these same artists without him going back.

And finally, if you still have a question after that, use the following article and make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your Mac. Then test again to see if you get the same result:

  • "itunes has stopped working" Win 10

    Hi all

iTunes worked very well for me in Win10, until the last update. (12.3.3.17) now, whenever I run iTunes, I get the message "iTunes has stopped working" and the program stops. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the program as detailed here...

Troubleshooting problems with iTunes for Windows updates

.. .but the program still "stops working."

My system Win10 House, 64-bit, all of the updates. iTunes is 64 bits, too.

    Any suggestion is appreciated.

I had a lot of problem with my iTunes crashing / freezing - up after I've upgraded to the latest version also.

In my case, the symptoms were different, but after trying many possible solutions, which had no effect at all, I discovered the following post useful here:

    Empty/corrupted library iTunes after upgrade/crash

While the symptoms are different, because you have already tried to reinstall the software, perhaps the problem may be related to your library, iTunes, or (as in my case), seems to be a problem caused by the Apple's music, which only manifested itself during the access artists in iTunes that I have previously set to 'follow' Apple music!

After that I've disabled showing music Apple (from the tab general in iTunes Properties) as suggested in this article, all of a sudden my iTunes stopped freezing / crashing.

If your iTunes library is potentially corrupted, the following Apple article should be very useful:

If you do not see your content once you update iTunes - Apple Support

    I hope this helps!

  • iTunes Radio we removed! Very disappointed!

As a subscribed game iTunes, I was sold is worth a year of advertising free iTunes radio. I am very disappointed that Apple has decided to revoke this privilege without any offer of refund prorated. The commercial-free radio was my only reason for iTunes corresponds to the subscription. Something apple doesn't realize is that I regularly discover new artists on iTunes radio and buy their music. In my opinion, $120 / year is too expensive for the radio. Looks like I'll go back to Pandora and commercial interruptions.

I've lost all of a sudden too my iTunes game commercial-free radio service. I received no notice or explanation.

After that, Apple really expects me to spend my money on another brilliant argumentation of sale?

    No thanks, Apple.
