COMException in AddInUtil.exe on the updates for Office

Whenever I have install the updates for my computer (W7x64, Office 2010 x 32) I get the following error message two times during the installation of Office updates:

«Visual Studio Just-In-Time Debugger: an unhandled exception ('System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException') occurred in AddInUtil.exe [6916].» The Just-In-Time debugger was launched without necessary security permissions. To debug this process, the Just-In-Time debugger must be run as an administrator. You want to debug this process?

Yes, debug AddInUtil.exe

No, cancel debugging»

To continue updates, I click '' No, cancel debugging '' and ultimately, updates appear to succeed, but I wonder why this error even when and how fix?

Hi Statler6,

1. is your computer connected to a domain?

2. what updates did you tried to install?

You can try the suggestion provided by Habib Heydarian MSFT, March 1, 2006, from the link below.

The security update for office 2003 on my XP (SP3) kept failing throughout the last week. I contacted the support of MS PC security by phone and I was transferred from the Department the installation program office at Department of update of security for customer service. My desktop is hp pavilion PC under XP (SP3).

Finally, I was able to get good support from Microsoft. A Microsoft support engineer remotely connected to my machine and was able to fix the installation/update directories corrupted microsoft who were at the origin of the problem. I managed to install office with success and things are back to normal. I had given up hope after my original support request (2 weeks back) and the first experience with the customer. Hi Mary,

I suggest you to check the number of KB updates to isolate the problem.

To see the updates are installed on the computer, follow these steps:

    a. click Start, click all programsand then click Windows Update or Microsoft Update.

    b. click view update history. A window opens that displays all the updates that are installed and those who have not installed properly on the computer.

You can perform the System Restore before you install the Windows updates and check.

Important: System Restore will return all your files non-system as documents, email, music, etc., to a previous state. These files of types are completely affected by the restoration of the system. If it was your intention with this tool to recover a deleted file to non-system, try using a file instead of system restore recovery program.

You can Configure Windows to install only specific updates.  Check out the link for more information.

  • Install the update for office 2003 KB2289187 security

Whenever I start my computer, I learned that the KB2289187 update is ready to be installed. However, when I click OK to install it fails to install. If I can't install is there a way I can stop it tells me that it has to wait for the installation.

Yes, there are simply some updates may not be installed or that affect some computers.

There is a feature to 'hide' the update so it nags is no longer the user.

the hide feature has been added for vista and win7.

but I think you have to go to the update site itself to hide or show updates for xp.

If I remember, simply leave the site scan your computer for available updates,

then when she gives you a list of them, the possibility to choose and hide one of them will be provided on the Web page.

  • Downloaded the update for Firefox, and now I can't get rid of AOL.

Downloaded the update for Firefox, and now I can't get rid of AOL. I tried to remove anything that is related to AOL and when restart Firefox... There are once again AOL. I even reinstalled Firefox... He was there again.

Where AOL is displayed - homepage?

I think the first thing to check is if you have any modules related to AOL. These can replace your regular settings. You can view and disable all extensions essential or unknown here:

Firefox orange (or the Tools menu) button > addons > Extensions category

Note that in most cases, you should use the link to restart Firefox to actually disable the extension that you have chosen to disable.

Then, to fix your homepage, try the procedure described in this article: How to set the home page.

If there is a problem with your suppliers of research from Google for AOL, try this extension:

  • Since the update for Firefox 4, I am no longer offers the possibility to save the tabs when closing making it much faster to access these sites when starting the next day. Why this possibility has been removed? It's a favorite feature.

Since the update for Firefox 4, I offer more the ability to save tabs on shutdown - makes more rapid access to these sites when commissioning the next day. Why this possibility has been removed? It was a feature favorite and saved a lot of time.

Firefox 4 records the previous session.

You can use "Firefox > history > restore previous Session" for the previous session.

There is also a button 'Restore previous Session' on the default on: Home home page.

    Another possibility is to use:

    • Tools > Options > general > startup: "When Firefox starts": "show my windows and tabs from last time '.

You can set the preferences of warning on the topic: config page true via the context menu or toggle the value with a double click of the left.

To open the topic: config page, type Subject: config in the address bar (address) and press the 'Enter' key, as you type the url of a Web site to open a Web site.

If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access this page.
