comparison between ESX 3.0.2 / U4 3.5 / 4.0

Hello

I've got to justify migration between ESX 3.0.2 / 3.0.2 or 3.5 U4 / 4...

What are the main improvements between 3.0.2 / U4 3.5 I could push in my direction? (ie: vmhba...)

THX

All the new features between 3 and 3.5 are described here: http://www.vmware.com/support/vi3/doc/whatsnew_esx35_vc25.html

Kind regards

Gerrit Lehr

• Comparison between two tables

Hello

I have two tables USERS and LISTS:

And I want that there is a comparison between these two tables executed when user table USERS connect to the application.

They must compare the columns between the SEXES and AGE and if some users have the same attributes in its ranks as in a line in the table LISTS (here is unique each line) so that the user gets in his line in the column 'LIST_ID' the ID of the line with which attributes between GENDER and AGE.

Example:

USERS TABLE: exampleuser | Boby | McGrahem | Male | 18. -------

LISTS OF TABLE: 28 | examplelist | Male | 18

Once the Login of the user Boby gets in its ranks the ID = 28 because the SEX and AGE corresponds to the row of table LIST:

Result:

USERS TABLE: exampleuser | Boby | McGrahem | Male | 18. 28

CREATE TABLE  "USERS"
( "USERNAME" VARCHAR2(15) NOT NULL ENABLE,
"FORRNAME" VARCHAR2(15) NOT NULL ENABLE,
"SURNAME" VARCHAR2(15) NOT NULL ENABLE,
"GENDER" VARCHAR2(10) NOT NULL ENABLE,
"AGE" NUMBER,
"LIST_ID" NUMBER,
CONSTRAINT " USERS_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("USERNAME")
USING INDEX  ENABLE

CREATE TABLE  "LISTS"
(    " LIST_ID" NUMBER NOT NULL ENABLE,
" LISTNAME" VARCHAR2(50) NOT NULL ENABLE,
"GENDER" VARCHAR2(10) NOT NULL ENABLE,
"AGE" VARCHAR2(3) NOT NULL ENABLE,
CONSTRAINT " LISTS_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("LIST_ID")
USING INDEX  ENABLE

I need help for coding this, if someone be so good.

This is my essay:

DECLARE
v_listid varchar2(100);
BEGIN

SELECT  LIST_ID into v_listgid
FROM LISTS
WHERE GENDER = (SELECT GENDER
FROM USERS
WHERE UPPER(TRIM(USERNAME)) = UPPER(TRIM(:APP_USER)))
AND AGE = (SELECT AGE
FROM USERS
WHERE UPPER(TRIM(USERNAME)) = UPPER(TRIM(:APP_USER)));

UPDATE USERS
SET LIST_ID =  v_listid   WHERE UPPER(TRIM(USERNAME)) = UPPER(TRIM(:APP_USER));

END;

I'd like to REALLY shy away using the USER name as the primary key, because the fact that users can create duplicate user names... YOU should NEVER base a PK on the entry of user, the better to let the database create and maintain this element of date...

FIX:

UPDATE to users U

SET List_Id = (SELECT List_Id OF lists L WHERE L.Gender = U.Gender and L.SOMENUMBER = U.SOMENUMBER) AND

Upper (U.UserName) = UPPER(:APP_USER);

Don't really want to cut the strings, Oracle which will do since they are of type varchar2 columns...

• Differences between ESX and ESXi

Hai,

As I am new to VI environment I doubt that where features ESX and ESXi are different, it may be stupid but can help me a lot.

Hello

Please check the link to the differences between ESX and ESXi below.

http://www.VMware.com/products/vSphere/ESXi-and-ESX/compare.html

Please note ESX is present in version 3.x, 4.x. starting vsphere 5.0, we have only ESXi.

ESXi doesnot have a service console and has the smallest footprint of 70 MB and so is safer and more reliable, because it has a smaller surface set.

Please allow points if you find the article useful.

• Ports required to migrate between ESXs models in different areas of FW

Hello

I have an ESX in Location1 hosting models. I have another group of ESX in Loacation2. I want to deploy an an ESX virtual computer in guest place.2 from a model of Location1.

We have a firewall located between 1 location and location two. ESX on the two Sites is managed by a server on Location1 vCentre.

The firewall has already 902,903,443,27010 and 27000 open between vCentre server and the LAN of guests place.2. However we can not yet deploy vms in lcoation2 of the models of location1.

I read something that was rather vague on the opening of the port 902 between ESX on different areas of FW. Can anyone confirm if it's it's it stop working. I have to open 902 Port TCP and UDP between two LANs in both sense? Also is there anything else that needs opening between them. We do not HA, DRS and vMotion to present as all virtual machines are the local storage.

Thank you

• Difference between Esx v 2 and 3 and ESX 2.5 and 3.5

Hello

I want to know the differences between ESX V.2 and 3 and ESX 2.5 and 3.5. can someone help me on respect.

Karthik.

Hello

The biggest difference between ESX 2.x and 3.x is how the virtualization of the boots as well as configurations of network virtual host.

In ESX 2.x booted Linux then VMware took control.

In ESX 3.x VMware started then place the unit of management within a virtual machine started.

ESXi boots the vmkernel then starts a Posix environment in the vmkernel.

The book of VMware ESX Server in the enterprise passes over these differences in a bit of detail, if you are interested.

• Comparison between a static value type String and a type perhaps unrelated number

Well I have another question of my book of text... so far I typed in exactly how they ask me to and even followed some screenshots of examples of theres. All me looks good, but of course, I'm the only one with an untrained eye.

When I run this film I get a compiler error of: 1176 20 comparison between a static value type String and a type perhaps unrelated to line number

Here is my code

import flash.events.MouseEvent;

Stop();
var numberOfCookies:Number = 0;
startBtn.addEventListener (MouseEvent.CLICK, getCookies);
function getCookies(event:MouseEvent)
{
numberOfCookies = (Math.floor (Math.random () * (10)) + 1);
var n: Number = 0;
While (n < numberOfCookies)
{
var cookieInstance:cookieMC = new cookieMC;
addChild (cookieInstance) .x = (Math.random () * 200) + 20, (cookieInstance) there (Math.random () * 150) = + 220;
n ++ ;
}
}
goBtn.addEventListener (MouseEvent.CLICK, checkNumberTyped);
function checkNumberTyped(event:MouseEvent)
{
If (checkBox.text == numberOfCookies) //this is the line 20
{
gotoAndPlay (2);
}
on the other
{
gotoAndPlay (3);
}
}

The error indicates well enough the problem... the compiler doesn't like to compare different types of things. In your case, a type is a string, and the other type is a number. If you need to force one of them to become another type, and you can go either way...

If (checkBox.text is String (numberOfCookies))

OR

If ((checkBox.text) Number is numberOfCookies)

• Difference between ESX and ESXi in production?

Hello

I was asked to meet my client from my manager what difference does it make if I used ESX or ESXi in our world of production.

Except I can't think of a logical reason to use on ESX ESXi... Any ideas please?

Thanks in advance!

PS - I know the basic difference between these two have read a few articles, but nothing gives me a practical reason to choose ESXi.

Since reliese the Service Console on ESX - which is based on RHEL - the reason that VMware moves to only ESXi is it eliminates the need to patch the Service Console and makes it more secure host.

• VMotion between ESX 4.1 & ESXi 4.1 down on identical hardware

I did turn ESX 4.1 a few months on 6 Dell R710 servers and have no problem of vmotion, but now I added 2 extra (identical) Dell R710 servers with ESXi 4.1 on them.

The problem I have is that I can't vmotion running servers to the ESXi servers.

Can I vmotion stop server on ESXi servers without problem and running (on ESXi) between these 2 ESXi R710s of vmotion.

Also, I can't vmotion (on ESXi) servers to ESX servers.

I get the same error message, re cpu is different! Although they are not.

Thank you for taking the time to answer this.

This error message occurs generally if guests have different BIOS settings or even different BIOS versions.

• Storage vMotion issue License - license of moving between ESX Hosts 4.1?

I have a question about Storage vMotion with ESX 4.1 license.

One of my environments ESX 3.5 existing consists of 10 ESX 3.5 hosts - 8 ESX 3.5 servers Standard and 2 ESX 3.5 Enterprise servers. I use a centralized license server (I think that's the correct term).

I found that I can "move" the vMotion (and vMotion) Storage capacity of two of my 10 servers that only two of them are enabled for vMotion, both. I do this by topic under VI Client-> select the host ESX-> Configuration-> network-> properties-> VMkernel-> Edit-> toggle the box "VMotion" activated-> OK. I guess that by doing this, that I'm actually just spend my licenses 'ESX Enterprise' between the hosts.

Be able to run Storage vMotion on one or two guests at a time is a lot for a few times a year I need to reconfigure my back-end storage.

Two Questions:

1. this use is technically legal in a perspective of VMware licenses?

2. now, I'm looking to upgrade to ESX 4.1 and wonder if I'll be able to keep doing this? I have read that ESX 4.x got rid of the centralized server license model, so not sure if I could 'move' licenses around like that... In fact since vMotion is now included in Standard Edition, I guess I could 'pull out' through a license only one ESX Enterprise server in order to obtain the license of storage vMotion.

I let my support/subscription lapse for as long it is cheaper to purchase new licenses rather than paying for support costs with retroactive effect on my existing licenses. The price difference between Standard and Enterprise is large (3 times the cost) that I don't think I can swing is business licenses for all of my guests past the bean counters, where the reason for this post.

Reflections and comments?

Each host has a license key number. You can apply a new license key to a host, and it is immediately activated. I guess you would be technically violate licensing for seconds as a license number was recorded at two hosts. There is a place in the vSphere client to "assign a new license key to this host. When a license key has been assigned, it remains as a choice, then you can simply choose the functionality licensed one and below the other.
