Computer doesn't recognize me as an administrator, I am the only one!

I just tried to download an update for a codec RAW to Win Live Photo Gallery.  Download would not end because he said I would need administrative access.  This often happens during the execution of other functions as well.  Quite often, I want to delete unused and useless files and it won't let me because I do not have administrator permisssion (or something to that effect), but he gives me the opportunity to enter a password in the Administratorr.  I'm the only user on my computer and I looked and I have my account set like me to be the administrator.  What can I do to fix this?  It's really annoying when you run what should be some of the simpler tasks to run into this kind of roadblocks.

You must right click on some applications during their installation, then click "Run as Administrator".

When you want to delete files in the Windows system folders, then you have several options:
  • Temporarily turn off UAC.
  • Make fashion safe.
  • Restart Windows Explorer under elevated privileges.
I recommend that you click Start, click Help, then seek help on UAC to familiarize themselves with the concept.

My wife and I are both assigned as administrators, users. When I try to start a download, I get a message 'Sorry, this program requires administrator privilege' is there a problem between the seat and the keyboard or is this a real problem?

    Hello:

I don't have a specific answer for you. Even if you have administrator rights, some programs do not always recognize and are looking for the real PC Administrator account that is disabled in Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Try right click on the program file after you download and select 'Run as administrator' and see if that allows you to install the software.

The above is for Windows 7 or Vista.

If you have XP, log out of your account, log on to the administrator account and download and install the program from that account.

My HP dv6000 family Window Vista premium Service pack 2 64-bit does not recognize my internet connection (local area connection or wireless network connection). The network icon has a red x and it says not connected, but actually I am connected to my wireless network. I deleted my wireless network and set up again and always say the same thing.

I cannot perform certain functions because he says that I'm not an administrator, but it's my computer and I'm the only person who uses this computer

What are the functions? More global changes (changes to the system, software installation) require an elevation in Vista/Windows 7.

Changes to the built-in Vista administrator account

    http://support.Microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=942956

User - recommended configuration (Vista and Win7) accounts

You absolutely don't want to have only one user account. As XP and all other Windows 7, Vista, and modern operating systems are operating systems multi-user with integrated system of accounts as default Administrator and comments. These accounts should be left alone because they are part of the structure of the operating system.

In particular, you do not want account only one user with administrator privileges on Vista and Windows 7 because the administrator account integrated (normally only used in emergencies) is disabled by default. If you use as an administrator for your daily work, and this account is corrupt, things will be difficult. It is not impossible to activate the built-in administrator to rescue things, but it may require more work you want to do. Better not to get into a bad situation at first.

The user account that is for your daily work must be a Standard user, with the extra administrative user (call it something like 'CompAdmin' or 'Tech' or similar) only it for elevation purposes. As a user Standard is recommended for security reasons and will help protect your computer against infections. After you have created "CompAdmin", connect to it and change your normal user account Standard. Then log on to your regular account.

If you want to go directly to the desktop and ignore the Welcome screen with the icons of the user accounts, you can do this:

Start Orb > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UAC

Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null). MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Change administrator password when the old one has expired

After a year of using Vista on my PC, 3 weeks ago I got a message saying my password expires in 15 days, that was strange that I had never been asked to change it before. I have it has not changed at that time, and then went away for 2 weeks. On my return, my old password no longer works, and I was not given an opportunity to change, because I guess that the expiration date... any ideas on what to do? I'm now effectively locked out of my PC...

If this is the only administrator on the system account (if there is another, just connect as one, go to start / Control Panel / user accounts / manage another account / choose the account with the expired password and change the password).

If there is no other administrator, follow these steps after you create a System Restore Point.

Use the recovery environment, you can open the registry in the target
Windows Setup to apply the fix:

Start with the Vista installation disc in the drive and select the command line
in the repair options. If you do not have a disc, you can make a bootable recovery disk by using http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/ with burning software like: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html and, of course, a blank CD (perhaps with another computer if necessary).

    At the R.E. prompt:

    -Type: regedit
    -Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    -Click file-> load hive
-Navigate to the folder of the installation target \Windows\System32\Config
-Select the file named 'SAM' and click Open
-Give it a name, for example "target SAM" and click OK
-Develop "Target SAM" inside the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
-Develop in the following subfolder: SAM\Domains\Account\Users\000001F4
-Double-click on the element on the right called 'F'
-You are presented with a hex editor
-Change the position of th 57' 11 hex spell 10. (It's the)
identify in the data that contains only a 11 hex). To do this, click in the
law of 11 hex to make the insertion point. Back Press and 11
    disappears. Type 10.

On my computer, here is what the data looked like, until I have
    changed:

    From:

    02,00,01,00,00,00,00,00,80, d7, 8 c, b2 e9, 97, c7, 01, 00, 00, 00, 00, 00, 00, 00,.

    F4, 01, 00, 00, 01, 02, 00, 00, 11...

    TO:

    02,00,01,00,00,00,00,00,80, d7, 8 c, b2 e9, 97, c7, 01, 00, 00, 00, 00, 00, 00, 00,.

    F4, 01, 00, 00, 01, 02, 00, 00, 10...

This should make the active built-in Administrator account, but still need to
display it in the home screen.

    * Please NOTE, the following key may not be present on all systems. If this key is
missed, simply exit regedit, leave command prompt it and restart the system
    normal extra Vista *.

-Follow the same steps when loading of a hive, but instead of load SAM, load
    SOFTWARE
-Give it a name such as "software target.
-Develop target software, then navigate to the following key:

    Microsoft-Windows NT------CurrentVersion \ Winlogon------SpecialAccounts.
    UserList.

-Remove the entry in it named "Administrator".
    -Close regedit
    -Reboot

Administrator should now be activated and able to be signed in as.

    ======================================================================================================================

Now connect to this account and correct the problem with your password and then the problem should be solved.  Create a second account administrator in an emergency like this.

Use the following procedure to disable the built-in Administrator account:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-windows-vista/.
