I just need to restore my default settings to get my games that I LOVE to play the work; It is a windows registry problem, I think. I have my last installation of my program installed now, and I don't want to have to buy the program again to re - install (Office 07). If I use the wizard, it will keep on, or will I need a new drive to re - install?
If you reinstall to factory settings, you will need to reinstall all the programs you have installed.
You will lose all data
You must run MSUpdate before installing Office
You can re install Office as often as you want if its on the same PC, the worst way, you will have to use an online activation, and if it's a retail edition, you can install on any PC you own whenever you exceed the number of work PC allowed by your license.
It is not recommended to use QUICKLY to desktop settings
(I assume you have the cd/dvd as well as its key office)Finally, what makes you think that it is a registry problem?

Yesterday, I bought a home Permium windows 7 3 reviews software. Material of my computer is flaky and I reinstall windows once a month. If I activate windows after formatting and reinstalling the OS, will be consumed my activation of licenses?
Given that your hardware has a unique identifier captured by the activation process, you should not consume additional licenses whenever you reinstall. Andre Da Costa http://adacosta.spaces.live.com http://www.activewin.com

Windows Media Player will only play a sound with no video .avi and .mov
I started having a problem where the Windows Media Player will only play the audio portion of my .avi and .mov video files.
These files were created by my FlipCam or my Sony Handycam.
I never had problems until recently and think that it is due to some kind of Windows Update.
Both my computer and my wife's computer had the same problem and we are both using Windows XP Home Edition.
I apologize if this topic already on this forum.
Thanks for any help and advice.
CoDec = compressor decompressor.
A program is used to compress the file. You then need to unpack the file to play, you need the codec used to compress the file to decompress it on your pc.
You need DVD playing software installed to power the mpeg codec, or you can buy a codec to just run in media player.
AVI is a wrapper and may well contain more than 800 different file types, it has 800 different codecs! Thus, to read an avi file, you should know what codec was used to do and have that installed on your pc to read.
DV.avi is made with the dv codec, divx.avi is made with the divx codec.
Of course, that manufacturers make their codecs, you must make sure you have the latest being, to be able to read files made with it, so everything just because you downloaded the codec divx 12 months ago does not mean it will play files created with codecs of today!I hope this explains it is ok for you.
It surprises me that you say that you have downloaded all the updates of altest, but are still running wmp9, where we are now on WMP11 for XP and 12 for win7.
I would update my WMP version first.
Here is a page that will tell you that the codecs are on your pc and who has access to WMP 11.
http://www.myvideoproblems.com/tutorials/HowToFindCodecs.htmlHere is a page that will tell you how to know what codec was used to create the file that you are trying to watch and also if you have the right codec for it
http://www.myvideoproblems.com/tutorials/AVIcodec.htmlIt is generally accepted that the codec packs adding is a bad idea, so if you need a codec to read a certain file, google it's manufacturer and just install the one you need.
I would work just on the pc at the same time when you found what the problem is, you can fix on the other 2.
Need more help with this, just ask.

If I had to format a hard drive, it will delete everythink including windows xp disk if yes I would be able to see all thinking when I turn on my computer, as if that were to happen I could use windows install for install windows xp
Gaara_2k6,
Welcome to the responses of the Forums. The short answer to your questions are Yes and no and no.Depends on how you format the drive, it will delete everything on the drive. Now, it may still be recoverable with a software specialist or moving to a data recovery company.
If you formatted your hard drive you would not be able to start to do anything, because there would be nothing on the startup disk. With the Windows XP CD or with the recovery media provided by the manufacturer of the PC is the only way to reinstall Windows. Mike - Engineer Support Microsoft Answers

Only in the last days, Windows will ONLY open in Mode without failure. (I have made some changes myself)
I tried everything I knew how to do, without success. It must be clarified...
Which of the following statements apply to your problem:
1 when you started the computer you tried to log in normal mode, it wouldn't, and you needed to go to safemode manually in order to identify you.
If so, was there an error message?2. When you start the computer, it went automatically in safe mode.
If so, try this...Login in safe mode > start button > in the search box, type msconfig > Enter > at the top, click on start > make sure that there is NO check mark in front of Safe Boot > make sure that there is NO check mark anywhere in this window > click OK when finished.

I looked on these contradictory information, and here's what I found... I'm still not sure about that.I found information about this Dell Inspiron 531 computergoing to be compatible with Windows 7 on the site of Microsoft and in the control panel of that computer system information. But then I found more information on the Dell website that indicates otherwise. Please follow me closely here, it took some time to compile this info.Allows first eliminate what would be the simplest solution I already tried, that would be the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor" located at this address: http://Windows.Microsoft.com/UpgradeAdvisorOn this Web page, there is a small program to download and install that is supposed to tell me if this computer is compatible with Windows 7 in processor speed, RAM, graphics card, etc. and devices, automatically... Unfortunately, it does not work... I installed it and it stopped with the message: "Windows 7 advisor stopped working" so that program and this option is unnecessary. So to see the Web page at this address:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/system-requirementsIt is the "Windows 7 system requirements" list of information... it shows that I need at least a 1 GHZ processor or faster, 32-bit... This Inspiron 531 has a 2 GHZ processor and is 32-bit. This page is says I need 1 GB of RAM... it has 1 GB of RAM. It says I need 16 GB of available disk space, it has a C 138 GB primary hard drive which will be deleted when Windows 7 is ready to be installed. And he said that I need a"Graphics card DirectX 9 (with WDDM1.0 or higher driver)" ... the last part in parentheses is the only part that I'm not sure, but my system via the control panel information shows most of this information as being adequate.Go to this URL: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/inspd531/en/OM/appendix.htm#wp1149549 to see the Dell Inspiron 531 annex page online and click on the link above titled, 'Specifications' or just scroll to see... there in the category 4th down titled 'Video', it shows the "video integrated Nvidia (DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 3.9 Graphics Processing Unit) '. This seems to correspond to the above listed"DirectX 9" info page "Windows 7 system requirements".But then there are 2 pages Web of Dell, which indicate that this Dell Inspiron 531 is only supported by Windows Vista and Windows XP... see this URL for this Web page... http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/osmatrix/index?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs& ~ ck = mnThis is another contradictory Dell Web page at the URL:http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&docid=360683&journalid=910DD2FE57EB5496E040AC0A64E9331A#Issue0_1It shows, once you scroll down just a bit, a list of the current Dell computers that can support Windows 7... the Inspiron 531 is not on this list. This list excludes the Inspiron 531, but it then says' does not have a computer on these lists? Click here to shop for a new Dell! » .. .bad grammar side, this line that I'm pointing out may just be trying to sell me a new Dell computer, if I actually need or not Dell! And finally my info the computer from the control panel shows aprocessor 2 GHZ, 1 GB of RAM or 958 MB anyway and the 32 bit OS.And Yes, I ran the built-in diagnostic test Dell PSA on this computer and when it tests the sound card and the speakers, he plays the song a bit in each channel and then on both channels, so I know that the material is good on this computer.I know it's a lot to go through... it took me a while to compile this info, and I sent a version of this letter with screenshots and other MS Tech in India who I worked with for a month on the phone and email to correct a problem of 'no sound' that simply cannot be beat. But I'm trying to make sure before I do a clean install of Windows 7, when the disc arrives here, I don't clean it hard drive alone to experience Windows 7 does not work on this machine.Actually, I'm a Mac user and I don't have much trouble in those... Just trying to fix the computer of my mother for it, and now it seems that trying to install Windows 7 is the only way to get the sound back so that my mom can enjoy some music again.I never thought that I would like to know as well on the PC troubleshooting I've learned in the last month, but I don't like, and there is still no sound on this computer and everything has been tried... I made a collage of a hundred different error messages from Windows that I think I'll put it up for bid on ebay... I just want to go home to my trusty Macs. Please give me your comments... I would of course welcome.Thank youNuMetro
I am happy that you have it installed, but you have sound?
I was too surprised when Windows 7 to install all my drivers in device for me!
The video driver that it wanted to install was even later that of Nvidia. Also, it does not have the driver Physx I needed, so I had to install one myself. The other driver, that he has not installed was the pilot for the X - Fi card. He did install my motherboard if chipset drivers, but I turned around and installed ones that came with my motherboard.
Windows 7 does a better job to settle on earlier versions of Windows, but do not watch install what he wants to make sure that it does not have something that you don't want. He came along and updated my video driver again, but when that happens, it installs just the driver itself and not the driver Physx and my video control panel. Now when he talks about video drivers, I just go to Nvidia and download the full set.
You have the option in there for Windows Update to select which updates you want to allow. I would have put to allow you to decide which ones you want and do not let do it on his own.
I'm glad you're a happy camper! I do not see where you come with Vista, I jumped on this operating system completely because of the horror stories I've heard.
