  You need DVD playing software installed to power the mpeg codec, or you can buy a codec to just run in media player.
  AVI is a wrapper and may well contain more than 800 different file types, it has 800 different codecs!  Thus, to read an avi file, you should know what codec was used to do and have that installed on your pc to read.
  DV.avi is made with the dv codec, divx.avi is made with the divx codec.
  Of course, that manufacturers make their codecs, you must make sure you have the latest being, to be able to read files made with it, so everything just because you downloaded the codec divx 12 months ago does not mean it will play files created with codecs of today!

  Welcome to the responses of the Forums.  The short answer to your questions are Yes and no and no.

  Depends on how you format the drive, it will delete everything on the drive.  Now, it may still be recoverable with a software specialist or moving to a data recovery company.

  If you formatted your hard drive you would not be able to start to do anything, because there would be nothing on the startup disk.  With the Windows XP CD or with the recovery media provided by the manufacturer of the PC is the only way to reinstall Windows.   And finally my info the computer from the control panel shows aprocessor 2 GHZ, 1 GB of RAM or 958 MB anyway and the 32 bit OS.

  I was too surprised when Windows 7 to install all my drivers in device for me!

  The video driver that it wanted to install was even later that of Nvidia. Also, it does not have the driver Physx I needed, so I had to install one myself. The other driver, that he has not installed was the pilot for the X - Fi card. He did install my motherboard if chipset drivers, but I turned around and installed ones that came with my motherboard.
