Conditions of installation of laboratory at home to study for VCP

I just purchased a Lenovo think TD 230 server with Xeon processor and 2 gd of ram. I confirmed that it meets all of the requirements in the HCL on the VMware Web site. The server contains up to 32 GB of ram, but until I buy the second processor I'm only will be upgraded to 16 GB which will give me a nice amount of memory to be distributed to the virtual machines. I'm looking for some documents with details on how to set up a laboratory SCNET using workstation as host. I know that I have I have an msdn account have access to tons of operating systems and of AMENDMENTS to build the vm with. I'm just trying to understand how to structure the environment using esxi, vsphere, vcenter server and build it in the workstation 8

  • Help setting up a laboratory at home using Cisco kit and a blank Superhub

    I just started my CCENT class and so I try to create a laboratory that is separate from my LAN House, initially using a blank Superhub and a Cisco 1841 router.  Please keep in mind that I am a beginner, so it may not make sense or be completely illogical...

    The superhub for those who don't know, is a renamed netgear, limit VMDG480.  It's basically a cable modem and router wireless combined.

    The normal daily LAN side of the network was the default installation to receive an IP address via DHCP from the superhub in range 192.168.0.1/24.

    At first, I thought I could put things in preparation for my lab installation, by configuring the LAN subnet using 192.168.0.0 and superhub of/16 mask rank for my 'everyday' network and 192.168.1.0 rank for my "laboratory at home." (Good or bad?...)

    Unfortunately, I'm unable to do so because the superhub only allows the last byte in the mask to be changed, so I changed the mask and it now reads 255.255.255.128, with the idea that I can always have 2 separate networks.

    In the photo above you can see devices on the right side are all directly related to the superhub and continue to work as usual.

    On the left side is where I've implemented a Cisco 1841 router and a laptop computer to test.

    The details of each device are;

    Blank Superhub
    LAN:192.168.0.1
    The DHCP scope: 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.126

    Cisco 1841
    Fast Ethernet 0/1: 192.168.0.126
    255.255.255.128

    Fast Ethernet 0/0: 192.168.0.129
    255.255.255.128

    PC2 (mobile wired connected to FE 0/0)
    IP: 192.168.0.200
    255.255.255.128
    Default gateway: 192.168.0.126 (the address IP of Cisco 1841)

    Someone would be kind enough to look at this and tell me where I'm wrong please?

    1841 router:

    int fa0/0 (interface connected to the hub)
    IP 192.168.0.126 255.255.255.0

    IP 172.16.0.1 255.255.0.0
    IP nat inside
    No tap

    NAT configuration:

    access-list 1 permit 172.16.0.0 0.0.255.255
    IP nat inside source list 1 interface fa0/0 overload

    Add a default route:
    IP route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.0.1 (so your router knows where to forward DNS queries to 8.8.8.8)

    Connect your 3560 to the second port on the router and configure a trunk on the switch port and add vlan 2:

    int fa0/0 (connected to the 1841 router)
    switch to trunk encapsulation dot1q
    mode trunk switch

    VLAN 2
    name Home_Lab

    Connect your PC to the second switchport and add vlan2:

    int fa0/1
    access mode switch
    access switch vlan 2
    No tap

    Finally, give your PC an address in the subnet of vlan 2:

    IP: 172.16.0.2
    Mask: 255.255.0.0
    Gateway: 172.16.0.1
    DNS: 8.8.8.8

    You should be able to ping the address of the router on the subnet in 172.16.x.x 192.x.x.x. I don't have a Virgin hub to test this, but it worked well with two 1841 routers.

    I'm having a problem that makes me nuts and I was wondering if you can help me with this.

    While trying to set up a laboratory at home (I think it's often referred to a "white box" system)? I don't get the operational ESXi installation. For three days, I was not able to install ESXi.

    Problem:

    ESXi 5.5U3 installation fails and immediately restarts the host until it starts doing anything... specific.

    Using IPMI my motherboard I recorded (and also attached) a video and tried to integrate it here:

    For those who do not see the host starts and begins to extract the files in memory. When he goes to the grey-yellow screen it shows the following lines and then - BOOM - restarts the host and it again:

    • be quiet 400W power
    • SATA 250 GB HARD drive (or without)
    • Lexar 8 GB USB stick (formatted with Rufus) / anonymous 4 GB USB Stick

    I have a Satellite Pro A300-1DZ system unit, model no PSAG1E-OOFOO4EN (think they are 'o' and not '0', circle with slash through it) with WXP Pro.

    I recently contracted a virus inside and as he removed, however it is not good so I want to re - install Windows XP Home edition. I backed up the computer, I have a Windows XP Home SP2 Pro edition disk and I have my product key.

    Here's your solution:
    1. go to bios with F2 when you see the toshiba start screen.
    2. Select the arrow to the left using the "Advanced".
    3 press down until you get to "SATA Controller Mode".
    4 change, using F7/F8, Chang [AHCI] setting [compatibility].
    5. make sure the CD/DVD drive is the first to start and F10 save and exit. computer restart when you are prompted to "press any key" press a button and hey presto as before windows will start the installation, but this time you won't get windows you said:

    Set up did not find Ant hard disks installed on your computer.

    Make sure any drive HARD are powered on and properly connected to your computer and any hard disk related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or Setup program.

    implementation cannot continue press f3 to goto hell... uh I mean leaving the installation

    And you can continue on your installation of Windows XP Home edition.

    Hope I helped many other jeff's in the same boat. XD

    You will need to include only the Intel Matrix Storage Manger for the XP CD again. Without this iMSM XP will not see the HARD drive
    This driver is important. Other drivers can be installed after the installation of XP!

    There are 2 versions of BIOS; One for Vista and one for XP. Generally, the update of the BIOS must be made before the instillation of OS but you can also try to do after installing XP. In both cases, the update of the BIOS would be possible.

    Generally, Yes! Without the good BIOS features like the FN buttons could not work properly!

    I have a PC with Windows Vista Home Premium.  Suddenly, it wouldn't start.  I changed the boot CD ROM and put my Vista disc in and tried to do a "repair" that it came with missing engine or something like this.  After several attempts, I gave up and formatted hard drive losing all my data and programs (rather difficult to backup files when the computer does not start).  So, I tried a complete installation.  I put in the license code and he started the installation.  After a few minutes, the message came;  "Windows Setup could not reset the deployment engine.  to install windows, restart the installation.  I tried several times including completely turn off the computer for several minutes and try again.  I tried several times.  I thought oh well, I will install my Windows 7 program (this and never used).  Error on this installation was: your CPU is only good for 32 bit and Win 7 I have is a 64-bit version.  I'D RATHER INSTALL VISTA BUT need help on the error regarding the deployment engine.  Thank you, Lloyd

    If you use your credentials to the system for this step, or you forgot credentials, then follow the below steps.

    Open Services' of all the Programs/Run.

    Right click on short service (CASE, HTTP, Tools) and got to properties.

    There, click on "Log On" tab and change the identification information; Restart all services.

    Most likely your change of tools and Framework service credentil will solve your problem

    I recently acquired a couple of HP DL360 G4s and a NAS I think to support NFS and want to set up a laboratory at home using ESXi 4.1. I also acquired a couple of NIC dual port to add to the servers for additional physical network adapters. I'm a bit confused on the side network, I do not have a GBit 8 port switch I could connect all this, but it is unmanaged and that means no configuration of VLAN. How can I make this work if I want to put the SIN in NFS on my network with internet access?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated

    As long as you use the 'Road' default vSwitch strategy based on the source port id, it should work.

    What is your opinion with this laboratory to the House vSphere: 2 servers with 16 or 32 GB of RAM from Newegg or Amazon PowerEdge T110 II (Xeon 1230 v2 w/3 NIC) Dell (Dell RAM is of $$), switch (Cisco SG300) managed gigabit, box of i3 intel not expensive with 3 or 4 discs running openfiler or Freenas for storage and a UPS am I missing something? I don't want to build a white box and don't want a RAID controller (for now). Thanks for your advice. (I'm studying for my VCP)

    If the purpose of this study, I would not even spend a lot of money on server hardware, but try to have a decent PC (e.g. I7 CPU, 16 + GB RAM, SSD and HARD disk) and build a virtual lab with which you will have a much better flexibility in what you have installed. For example look at building the ultimate vSphere lab to see if this might be an option for you.

    You can save your files by putting the drive in another computer as a 2nd disk (best) or external
    Drive USB enclosure and then backup to removable media such as CD, DVD or other USB drives.
