Configuration of a very large area of tables

Hello

I would like to get some tips about the sizing of a constantly growing tablespace of datawarehouse. I have a dozen tables that receive 10 M lines per day each (about 2 GB per day); they are partitioned by day on the unix timestamps (i.e., the second since the era); When a partition gets old enough (e.g., 3 months) I intend to archive it offline, and then drop it. The tablespace will be owned by a physical disk to ASM on a HP MSA-2000 with RAID and, probably, a bandwidth of 1 M. The data blocks are 32 k in size.

Now my questions are the following:
-Are there any reason not to use a bigfile for this tablespace?
-Given that the tablespace is expected never to develop, it seems tempting to use a large autoextend size. The value that should be used here? It is a problem to use a huge value? Is it a gain in that (less fragmentation)?
- And what about the size of extension? Can I use a very high value here too?

Basically, this is how I intend to set this tablespace now, any advice on this subject?
CREATE BIGFILE TABLESPACE TICKETS
  DATAFILE '+DATA'
    SIZE 10G
    AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 10G
    MAXSIZE UNLIMITED
EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL UNIFORM SIZE 8M
  SEGMENT SPACE MANAGEMENT AUTO
  DEFAULT COMPRESS
  NOLOGGING
  FLASHBACK OFF;
Thanks for your understanding!
Chris

First of all, what version of Oracle? If default 11g I think ASM using variable block sizes that behave similar to how trust automatic works in that the file gets bigger band size increases.

What would use 8 M uniform extended use when you wait 2G per day. Why not use 100 m or 1 G? The tablespace will be shared?

Mark,
It is partitioned to one partition per day - which is 2 GB per partition.

Assuming that the last of any partition (on average) is half empty, he loses his choice of 8 MB 4MB to 2 GB and has about 256 degrees. Jump to 32 MB it loses 16 MB with 64 extents which is about 1% of its space - I think that the initial choice that it is perfectly reasonable and would not go about 32 MB.

    Hello

We have a table that has a column filled with a sequence - it is maintained by code in owb, but is growing at a rate higher than expected

for example sequence begins to tell 10000000000, expect the next row until the b created with 10000000001 but the big gap between the two.

Have a separate ticket raised with oracel for this as maintained by dimesnion opertaor code.

However, I have two or three sequences of questions reagrding.

    (1) can how big be

    (2) if we try to application numbers that over 14 digits begins to show the e in the tool that we use (pl/sql developer) is there a way to make sure that we see the integer (sqlplus?) and
I'm assuming that say if had number column that very large say 18 digits long attached to an another numbers table 18 long then no problem?

    Thank you

If you take a look at the documentation for creating a sequence, you will see that the maximum value is 10 ^ 27, assuming that you do not specify a maximum. If you have generated 10.000.000.000 (10 ^ 10) sequence values every second, you don't miss in 10 ^ 17 seconds which is about 3 * 10 ^ 9 years (3,168,808,781 or 3 billion years). The Earth is approximately 4.5 billion years if your sequence would not run out of values for about half the current age of the Earth. For most systems, it's a lot.

In SQL * Plus, you can control the display of a column using the COLUMN command

  • Why Outlook edit text in e-mails to a VERY large print?

In our business, we have at least five computers running Outlook Express (my soft Office 2010) with the following problem:
Customers are often receive e-mails with text in very large print - hard to read and not a professional look for us.

I don't know how your network is set up, and I don't use of moy. I found this through Google well.

    From: http://free.avg.com/ww-en/faq.num-3031#tba2

The AVG E-mail Scanner can affect your sending/receiving e-mail, since it is designed to analyze the messages and needs to access somehow. The access method messages depends on your e-mail client, but that the personal email of Scanner plugin can interfere with communication between your computer and the e-mail server.
To disable the personal E-mail Scanner (if it is installed), please:

Please activate the servers that have been enabled originally again when possible.

    And from here: http://www.vcn.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=436

    1. exit all programs are running email.
    2. start the AVG Control Center. To do this, click the small square red, black, yellow and green to the bottom of the clock in the taskbar, in the lower right of your screen.
    3. click on the big button Email Scanner (found on the right side of the Control Center window). Select 'Properties' from the bottom panel in the control center.
    4. a window should open with a plug-in tab at the top. Click on "disable plugin" in the Plug-ins tab.
    5. click the "Configure" button and uncheck all 5 options (scan incoming messages, scan outgoing messages, use the heuristic method, scan in archives, scan attachments).
    6. click on OK and then OK again.
    7. close the control center. Open your e-mail program, and then try again.

If the problem persists, it may well be the sender of outgoing messages scanning, but if this happens for every sender, which is unlikely.

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community forums.

I see from the description of the problem, you have a problem with networking on the FTP server.

The question you posted would be better suited in the Technet Forums. I would post the query in the link below.

  • How can suggest us a new DBA ECO certification for very large databases?

How can suggest us a new DBA ECO certification for very large databases?

This web site, or what phone number can call us to suggest the creation of a certification of VLDB ECO.

The most important databases that I've ever worked with barely more than 1 trillion bytes.

Some people told me that the results to be a DBA change completely when you have a VERY BIG DATABASE.

I could guess that maybe some of the following topics in the configuration can be on it,

    * Partitioning

    * parallel

    * more large block size - MAS vs. OLTP

    * etc.

Where I could send a recommendation?

    Thank you Roger

This forum is probably your best choice, Brandye would be one of the contacts I would use to make such a request.  If you are really interested in this, I would be further demand more.  Specifically, most Oracle certifications available to have a corresponding course available in the OU. If you want to create a new certification, one of the most compelling arguments would be to suggest a certification that tests information for which there are already one or more courses.  Looking at the current offerings of courses 12 c, the following two seem to come more close to what you ask for:

Database Oracle 12 c: implement partitioning Ed 1

Parallel processing in Oracle Database 12 c Ed 1

These areas are covered somewhat in 1Z0 - 117.  You will need to make a case for a certification that hit different areas of knowledge.  Looking at the course for both subjects, partitioning has more that are not covered in-depth on 117.  However, it is supposed to be a 12 c Data Warehousing expertise certification coming out this year that may require a partitioning good knowledge.

  • Keep two very large synchronized data warehouses

I look at the options to keep a very large (potentially 400GO) datastore TimesTen (11.2.2.5) in sync between a Production Server and [sleep].

The replication was abandoned because it does not support compressed tables, or table types creates our closed code (without PKs not null) application

    1. I did some tests with smaller data warehouses for the indicative figures, and a store of 7.4 GB data (according to dssize) has resulted in a set of 35 GB of backup (using ttBackup - type fileIncrOrFull). This surge in volume should, and would it extrapolate to a 400 GB data store (2 TB backup set?)?
    2. I have seen that there are incremental backups, but to keep our watch as hot, we will restore these backups and what I had read and tested only a ttDestroy/ttRestore is possible, that is full restoration of the full DSN every time, which takes time. Am I missing a smarter way to do this?
    3. Y at - it other than our request to keep two data warehouses in the construction phase, all other tricks we can use to effectively keep the two synchronized data stores?
    4. Random last question - I see "datastore" and "database" (and to a certain extent, "DSN") apparently interchangeable - are they the same thing in TimesTen?

Update: the 35 GB compress down with 7za to slightly more than 2.2 GB, but takes 5.5 hours to do this. If I take a fileFull stand-alone, it is only 7.4 GB on the disc and ends faster too.

    Thank you

It must be a system of Exalytics, right? I ask this question because compressed tables are not allowed for use outside of a system of Exalytics...

As you note, currently the replication is not possible in an Exalytics environment, but that is likely to change in the future and then he will certainly be the preferred mechanism for this. There is not really of another viable way to proceed otherwise than through the application.

    With regard to your questions:

    1. a backup consists mainly of file of the most recent checkpoint, more all the files/folders that are newer than this file logs. Thus, to reduce the size of a backup complete ensure

that a checkpoint occurs (e.g. "call ttCkpt" a ttIsql session) just before starting the backup.

    2. No, only the restore is possible from an incremental backup set. Also note that due to the large amount of rollforward needed, restore a large incremental backup set can take quite a long time. Backup and restore are not really intended for this purpose.

    3. If you are unable to use replication, then a sort of application-level synchronization is your only option.

4 data store and data mean the same thing - a physical TimesTen database. We prefer the database of the expression of our days; data store is a legacy term. A DSN is something different (Data Source Name) and should not be swapped with the data/database store. A DSN is a logical entity that defines the attributes of a database and how to connect. It is not the same as a database.

  • How to get rid of the msg "...". is very large and may take a long time to

    Hello
    Simple question:
How to get rid of msg "...". is very large and might take a long time to load... »
I tried to increase the number of cells under "App settings-> options-> warn if greater than 5 000 000 000 data form. I even tried to '0 '. Nothing works planning 9.3.1

    Hello

That's how I've always changed the number of cells, after which display the message on the forms of data.

There are 2 levels of adjustment. You can configure the application level, but users must select "Use Application Defaults" in the planning of the preferences of the user parameters. To do this, use the file-> Preferences and select schedule.

Otherwise, you can set the value of the number of cells at the level of the user for ' warn if data form more xxxx ". It should solve the problem. This should be the installation program if you have not selected checkbox default Application for the user in the preferences of planning.

If nothing else works, it is very difficult to guess, I would open a SR with Oracle.

Let me know if it helps.

    See you soon

  • Why firefox doesn't go very large print even after that I customized to print smaller.

I downloaded Firefox and the screen is very large fonts and the screen is big too.

Check that you are not running Firefox in compatibility, or with a reduced screen resolution mode.
You can open the properties of the desktop Firefox shortcut via the context menu and check under the tab "compatibility".
Make sure that all items are disabled in the tab "Compatibility" in the Properties window.

Try to assign layout.css.devPixelsPerPx 1.0 (default is - 1) on the topic: config page.
If necessary adjust the value by 0.1 or 0.05 (1.1 or 0.9) until icons or text looks right.

You can open the topic: config page via the address bar.
You can accept the warning and click on "I'll be careful" to continue.

You can watch the Default FullZoom Level or NoSquint extension to define a page zoom and the size of the default font on the web pages.

  • the menus appear initially very large or very small

When in the Firefox browser if I click on a menu, it appears very large or very small. When I move the arrow in the menu change to the right size. This has not happened before. Is there a solution?

Try Firefox Safe mode to see how it works there.

A way of solving problems, which disables most of the modules.

The problems of Firefox using Firefox SafeMode

    When in Safe Mode...

    • The State of plugins is not affected.
    • Custom preferences are not affected.
    • All extensions are disabled.
    • The default theme is used, without a character.
    • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored.
    • The layout of the default toolbar is used.
    • The JIT Javascript compiler is disabled.
    • Hardware acceleration is disabled.
    • You can open the mode without failure of Firefox 15.0 + by pressing the SHIFT key when you use the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
    • Or use the Help menu option, click restart with the disabled... modules while Firefox is running.

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the shortcut of Firefox (without the Shift key) to open it again.

If it's good in Firefox Safe mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one.

Or it could be caused by hardware acceleration.

  • I support a very large school district running Firefox 3.6. What will happen at the end of life date? In the online environment, we test this week.

I run the test center for a very large school district with over 120 students of k. We have a current deployed at base of 54 client machines of k using Firefox 3.6. We have not upgraded for many reasons, of which the most important is to remove the possibility of use in navigation private students and dealing with plugin-updates for the digital non-born (read dumber than a bag of hammers users) that make up the majority of the customer base.

We test ESR now, but only discovered this end of life for 3.6 is tomorrow, 4/24. We are currently in the middle of the scale of the State of online tests. The question is, what will happen tomorrow, when the browser will end of life. ESR wiki mentions that "an update to the current version of Firefox Desktop will be available through the Update Service Application"

So the main question is, are my students/teachers goes to get a popup telling them that they have updated the browser if we have already turned off updates? If so, can I I disable remote using SCCM, because there will be all sorts of havoc.

Please advise as soon as possible and thank you in advance.

An addon like https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/disable-private-browsing-pl/ can help, or http://kb.mozillazine.org/User:Dickvl / Private_Browsing_disable (don't forget, this is beyond what this forum can help you with if you need help making these changes).

    Hello world

A client of ours should display very large jpgs (about 8000 x 5000 px), which are the object of a scroll and zoom using touch gestures.

To my surprise, even, the performance to do this using a scroller is pretty cool

BUT unfortunately the application sometimes freezes when loading the image. (about 15% of chance to do)

Debugger does give no info at all, simply closes debugging.

Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this or how to avoid this?

PS tested on several machines and different Versions of Tablet, including 2.1.0.1032

    Thx a lot.

    Tim.

Sorry it took me a long time to respond, but I had other issues to be addressed in the first place

Use the Profiler showed a leak memory in the skin of the viewer of the image.

    It is a memory problem.

I must put BimapImage null source value before destroying the display manually, even if I had no other reference to it.

A little strange, but this solved my problem.

He could reappear obviously using a single image much bigger, but I guess that it must accept some limits on a mobile device somehow.
