Configuration of NIC for ESXi 4.1

Happy to wander what others do for their NETWORK card for ESXi 4.1 configuration I want to use the following:

pNIC0-> vSwitch0-> Portgroup0 (management)

pNIC1-> vSwitch0-> Portgroup1 (VMotion)

pNIC2-> vSwitch1-> Portgroup2 (the VM network)

pNIC3-> vSwitch1-> Portgroup2 (the VM network)

pNIC4-> vSwitch2-> Portgroup3 (DMZ network)

pNIC5-> vSwitch2-> Portgroup3 (DMZ network)

I don't have that much wandering DMZ traffic so if I should use one of the DMZ NIC for VMotion or management.

Mike

According to me, it looks good, you have redundancy built in.  The only thing that we do, and maybe you do the same thing is on our vSwitch0 active/standby network interface cards to each other.  The other vSwitches are set to active/active.

    Hello

    Just create 2 vSwitches on the host, allocate the host's physical network cards to the separate vSwitches, then create the Group of ports by vSwitch, in the comments adds another nic and assign it to the Group of ports that you need.

    Check out http://www.vm-help.com - this site has a list of equipment, others have found work in ESX (i).  Almost any card with an Intel chipset will be supported - e100 or e1000.  You should be able to find some of those who surround for not too much money.  NewEgg has some GigE for $20 - $ 50.  They may not give the best performance, but they work.

  • Configuration guide for ESXi 5 (Vmnetwork, management and vMotion) with NIC 2 network

    Hello

    I have 4 NIC in Server Blade 7 (ESXI 5), would like to dedecate 2 NIC for (Vmnetwork, management and vMotion) & NIC (iSCSI traffic) 2 with equallogic SAN.

    I equallogic guide to configure ESXI with it, but how do I configure (Vmnetwork, management and vMotion) with NIC 2, my priority is excellent speed for my virtual machine, and then nothing else.

    Then just go for classic switch.

    The configuration is a lot depend on existing infra, the trunk, the physical switch for redundant network & balance, 100 or network 1GbE, no.. virtual machines and etc. If there is a new configuration, I suggest you trunk 2 x available vmnic (the vm network) to balance the load and better performance.

  • How do I configure Openfiler for ESXi 5.0 (on which has been installed in the workstation).

    9.0 pre-installed VMware I installed in my laptop. I created a 5.0 as a VM ESXi in workstation. And I installed vSphere client 5.0 in my laptop. And I am able to access ESXi from my laptop through the vSphere client.

    Now, I created a VM with Windows 2008 R2 on top of ESXi. I installed vCenter 5.0 in Windows 2008 R2 Machine. I have just to connect to vCenter using vSphere client (which has been installed in my laptop) and added ESXi as host in the inventory.

    Now, I created a VM with Openfiler. Everything is fine. I want to use this Openfiler as a storage array, and I want the SAN with ESXi and Openfiler configuration.

    I think I need to create a VMkernel port group and attach that Openfiler VM who. And if I want to access the Openfiler web interface, do I need to have internet access? We can access the Openfiler Web interface without having access to the internet?

    Can someone let me know how to connect this Openfiler as a storage Bay for ESXi and configure a San.

    Openfiler does not need Internet access and you do not require an additional VMkernel port for access.  If it's production, you share the management and traffic on NIC iSCSI physical separate and thus vmkernel ports.  In this case, it is not necessary.  Did you do the initial installation of Openfiler to create a LUN for the ESXi host access?

  • Best configuration of switch for 4 natachasery - 5 ESXi

    So, I need to tell my boys to network how I want the configuration of ports (Cisco switches) for 4 natachasery connection to my HP DL 360. I need the vSwitch VM access to 3 different VLAN. I'm NOT going to use vMotion for this.

    I guess, I see 2 possibilities and does not entirely undesrstand pros / cons...

    First of all, I thought I would split the enet to 2 separate switches cables, but I was told that if I chose that this channel of ports 1 route would be active and 2nd would be Eve. Basically can not paste all 4 cards and divide them. This could reduce the bandwidth, but give me a redundancy using 2 physical switches.

    Or I can have all 4 enet cables go to the same switch (etherchannel), but if this switch would die I'm dead in the water, AND I think that EtherChannel mode WE (my network guy preferred LACP) should stay and LACP cannot be used. According... http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC & docType = kc & docTypeID = DT_KB_1_1 & externalId = 1004048 I think I should also use 'Hash IP' if EtherChannel is used.

    So what is the advantage or disadvantages of each channel? Thank you!

    This article describes the aggregation of ESX/ESXi links:

    • ESX/ESXi host only supports grouping NETWORK adapters on a single physical switch or stacked switches.
    • Aggregation of links is never supported on disparate networks switches.
    • The switch must be set to perform 802.3ad aggregation of links in static mode WE and the virtual switch must have its defined route based on the IP hashload balancing method.  Ensure that participants of the network adapters are connected to the ports configured on the same physical switch.
    • Allowing each route based on the IP hash without 802.3ad aggregation or vice versa disrupts networking, so you must make the changes to the virtual switch first. In this way, the service console is not available, but the physical switch management interface is, so you can activate the aggregation on the affected ports to restore network.

    • For more information on configuring a VLAN for NIC teaming, see Configuration of VLAN Virtual Switch, switch physical and virtual machines (1003806).
    • To set up the consolidation of NETWORK cards on ESX and a physical switch, see example configuration of EtherChannel / link aggregation with ESX/ESXi and Cisco/HP switches (1004048).
    • The only option for switch vSwitch or vDistributed that can be used with balancing EtherChannel is HASH IP.
    • Do not use tag with IP HASH load balancing.
    • Do not uplinks configure standby or not well obliterated with IP HASH load balancing.
    • VMware takes support only a single Etherchannel by vSwitch or distributed vNetwork (vDS).

    In my case with no vMotion and just management and 3 VLAN all about 1 vSwitch I should put them all to active?

    Yes, they should all be active, there is really no need passive adapters (that I'm aware of your configuration).

    On your physical switches, you don't need to do anything more than what allows a VLAN correct, i.e.: should all etherchannel or a similar montage. Side vSwitch, you must use the default 'Port ID' nic teaming strategy.

  • Problems of configuration of the NIC in ESXi 4.1

    I have a HP DL380 G7

    The system will accommodate 3 VM - all 2008 R2 Enterprise

    2 servers, I want the team to failover and load balancing

    I have configured my NIC this way

    NIC 0 dedicated to managing the virtual computer

    1 NETWORK card dedicated to a single server running as a domain controller

    Map NETWORK 2 and 5 I want the team to failover and a faster flow on a TS

    NIC 3 and 4 I want the team to failover and a faster flow SQL database running

    I segragated 2 NICd dual servers have a NETWORK card on each card, where a map should fail

    Here's where I lose myself-

    How can I add network cards to the actual virtual machines correctly?

    If the network adapters are associated, I see 1 NIC in each virtual computer or will I see 3 NICs in the actual virtual machine?

    If a virtual computer uses a bundled pair of network adapters, I should add the two network adapters, the settings of the virtual machine?

    If a virtual machine uses a pair of network cards grouped and I see 2 network cards in the actual virtual machine, I need to assign an IP address to each NIC?

    Sorry for so many questions, I'm just getting confused by properly installing network cards.

    I've included a screenshot of what I'm trying to accomplish.

    Vmnic0 is 1 Gbit/s and the others are at 100 Mbps.  Using 2 different physical switches?

    If so, I would put all 3 VMs on vSwitch1.  When you create each virtual machine you can assign just a single vmnic to it.  Then bind the vmnic for the VM port to vSwitch1 Group (which is called Terminal Server now).   Virtual machines will not be limited to 100 Mbps when communicating with each other.

  • Script configuration ip and hostname for esxi

    Hi guys,.

    I installed a VM ESXi ESXi-based. Then I cloned the ESXi VM to create another 40 ESXi VMs based.

    Now all others 40 virtual machines have the same IP address that the ESXi VM I use for cloning.

    Is there a script method to set the IP and static hostname for the 40 other VMs ESXi?

    Or is there a way I can enter the IP address and host name for ESXi clones?

    That works too, but it will not be a good idea to add the host to the CR and THEN change the IP there. Since it is a virtual, better machine to open a VI client directly to the 'physical' ESX host that has these virtual machines, open a console and change the IP/hostname using DCUI

    SATA, who worked at the 2 update driver update changed 3.  So, you may be able to work around the problem of disk with a modified file, you can probably find at vm-help, but you will still need a NIC for networking.

  • Service profile of the CISCO UCS for ESXi

    Do you need multiple boot LUN on the storage array for each host that you want to apply the service profile to? I'm just confused, let's say I have 12 blades that I want to designate as boot SAN for ESXi, y aura-t 12 profiles of separate service for each of them, and will need me 12 different LUNS on our storage? I am new to this and I just want to make it as clean as possible! Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Justin,

    You can have the same LUN ID for multiple service profiles, as well as the same target ID. However, your initiators will be different and you will need to configure the zoning on your switch upstream if you use the end host mode.

    Here is a good guide, review the basics and how to put in place.
