Script configuration ip and hostname for esxi
Hi guys,.
I installed a VM ESXi ESXi-based. Then I cloned the ESXi VM to create another 40 ESXi VMs based.
Now all others 40 virtual machines have the same IP address that the ESXi VM I use for cloning.
Is there a script method to set the IP and static hostname for the 40 other VMs ESXi?
Or is there a way I can enter the IP address and host name for ESXi clones?
That works too, but it will not be a good idea to add the host to the CR and THEN change the IP there. Since it is a virtual, better machine to open a VI client directly to the 'physical' ESX host that has these virtual machines, open a console and change the IP/hostname using DCUI

Capacity planning: how to configure thresholds and installation for specific measure alets
Hi all
I need some help/suggestions to set thresholds and alerts for settings storage.
What I am doing?
1. create a threshold for adapter EMC attributes as IOs, IOs read write
2 alert if the value is less than or greater than the configured threshold
What I've done so far?
1. create a new attribute on page vcops-custom packages
vcops panel-> environment-> configuration-> atribute packages
Here are the properties of the attribute.
Attribute name of the Package: EMC storage processor
Type of adapter: adapter for EMC
Resource type: SP
Attributes configured on the storage processor
Disc: Written (e/s)
Selected settings are attached a screenshot.
Question:
Could someone help me answer following questions?
As I receive all the alerts currently, I think I'm missing some configurations,
could you please show me how to get alerts for the specified thresholds?
Either way, Setup of thresholds in the screenshot is for testing purposes.
Please show me the way.

I see that you asked the question 1 in a separate thread, How to export (if possible) vCOPS information -good, check this answer (hopefully it's very good).
Question 2: No, unfortunately not - he not automatically send mail. You found where you can configure the SMTP at UIS. On the admin page will work for sending reports and alerts triggered on ui vcops-vsphere. For the custom UI vcops alerts, you will need configure filtering with the 'filter_alertplugin '. This means that you need to configure an xml file, which is found on the analytical vm: /usr/lib/vmware-vcops/user/plugins/outbound/filter_alertplugin/conf/emailFilter.xml
This can be difficult and post in the forum would mean a complete manual. You can check the configuration of this file in the manual on page 82 in this document: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vcops-57-custom-ui-admin-guide.pdf

Attempt vSwitch configuration change and now the ESXi host and virtual machines offline
So I have no doubt, I have myself to blame for this one. I was trying to change my vSwitch from 100 Mbps to 1000 Mbps when an 'operation timed' error out jumps-to the top and my vCenter Server lost connection with my ESXi host. I tried to restart the host manually, but that did not help. The host is not the ping requests and all the virtual machines on that host are offline; None of them vMotion off to my other ESX Server.
I tried to reconnect the host computer in vCenter, but it is obviously does not connect because it can't ping it. I logged the ESXi console and all the network settings appear to be correct. I'm used to connect to the ESX console where you can execute commands, but it's my first ESXi host, so I don't know what I can do.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

If you had your management port and VMs on different vSwitches / NIC leave on framework would eliminate a false positive. As in your case the management port reportedly follows the cable / about speed, but the virtual machine network would be intact (and I'm assuming that your storage space as well). In this case the VMs system would have worked very well even if the management port did not work.

How to configure indexing and search for system files
The search bar that is displayed with Start is not all system files. I chose each setting that I can find so that he can do, but no luck. I don't have indexing turned on for all of the C: drive, and I don't think I want to do. He would not mind indexing all the disk once, and then only put my clues from the user files up-to-date. But I don't think not indexing should be necessary just to find a file by its name, and I don't want to search the contents of the filesystem.
What should do?
By default, the search box of the start menu would not search the entire disk. You'll have better luck if you click Start, computer, drive Local (c) and use the search box in top right of the window for the C drive. Also, before you look, you want all the hidden files to be displayed. Settings found under described gravityforce, and more if you click on the view tab (on the left), there are two parameters associated with hidden files to find and develop your taste: "Show etc. hidden files" and "Hide protected system files".
I understand that the research of the start menu is for items that are likely to be where ordinary users are putting their stuff (locations of the default folders for photos and so on) and the elements of the Panel and installed software in the programs, and thus the search from the start menu is for when we try only to locate something specific between those things. When I want to have a thorough search of the entire disk, I click Start, computer, drive Local (c) and research to this place instead.

Create notification of a particular hardware for ESXi host problem?
Hello
One of our 5.1 ESXi hosts is constantly a hardware problem (with hardware alert status).
We would like to ask for your opinion
(1) if we create a notification, should we use 'host' alarm?
(2) is it possible to send a notification to the staff for this particular host with error alarm "host" other than other ESXi hosts (i.e. send to Tony and Stephen for ESXi host A Harware problem BUT only sent to Tony for another hardware ESXi hosts problem)?
Your opinion is requested.
Hello
No, there is no option to select specific host in a cluster. When you set the alarm, it is fixed for the whole army in the cluster.

Hello community.
There is very little son on ESX 3.0/3.5 and Console of service support for USB devices, so I won't re-collection of information here. SC is really version of Red Hat Linux, USB support is incorporated.
(But not for the Virtual Machine hosts individual granted.)
My question is about support and USB for ESXi connectivity options.
ESXi does not have a Service Console based on linux but the implementation of BusyBox OS to help with management of the hyper-visiere tasks, how USB support built-in. Support must certainly be there for bootable USB and also more rack KVM now have USB keyboards.
Just a question how to go into the options of USB support? If SC, then I could use commands #mount and #cp... but no SC as shown above, also no space available in most of the cases on local storage.
Thank you and I will reward points quickly. Looking for ideas on how to use the USB of ESXi connectiivty options.
If you want the contents of the disc to be visible from the VI client, Yes, you can use VMFS3 as the file system. If you want to just level console access to the contents of the device (for example a "not supported" or "Not supported SSH" connections), you can use VFAT. The best way to create a filesystem VMFS3 on this is to use storage management in the VI Client. I tried not to add additional USB drives, so I'm not sure it will work 100%.
In the CLI, you should be able to look in/dev/disks and see all the disks on the system. You can use fdisk-l/dev/discs / vmhba32\:0\:0\:0 to see the current map of partition of a disk (in this case, disk0 on vmhba32, which is actually the USB on my ESXi machine). You should also be able to use fdisk to create a partition (type should be fb) for a new store VMFS. You can then use vmkfstools to create a file system on the partition that you create - for example: vmkfstools vmfs3 - C/dev/discs / vmhba32\:0\:0\:1. Be careful with this command, you get the correct HBA, disk and partition number, as wrong could wipe out something important.

When I connect on our vCenter 6 Update 1 device (embedded PSC) via the Web Client with integrated Active Directory ID, select "System Configuration", then select the node for vCenter, summary screen displays all the information IP or host name. In addition, the status of availability and workload for storage/memory/swap/load of work view all 'unknown '. See attached photo for reference.
All values under management-> settings are also empty.
When I login with [email protected], all the above values are displayed and I can change the settings of the device of vCenter as expected. This made me suspect a permission problem exists, but I cannot know what SSO group to add our AD is less to enable management or control of the aircraft from vCenter for that it works as expected.
Already tried to add our accounts to the following groups in SSO under the vsphere.local domain:
DCAdmins
SystemConfiguration.Administrators
ComponentManager.Administrators
Directors
This information on the purpose of each group unfortunately did not help me understand which could apply:
Groups in the field of vsphere.local
Thank you very much for the help!
I just did some digging on this myself (we deployed now U2 6.0) after I tried the same things (adding AD users in the SSO domain groups, etc. etc.) without success.
What I have found is that it is simply a WELL-KNOWN PROBLEM with 6.0 U2 and maybe they'll fix with U3 6.0 when that comes out (later this summer)? Maybe it'll be 6.5 at that time, with an announcement to the VMworld 2016 or something - who knows.
The workaround is a joke--suggesting the deployment using only the SSO domain by default. Well, which is never going to happen naturally, so he says as a workaround is, if you really need to get and display status, etc. from the web client, you simply connect with your [email protected] account that was created at the initial time of installation.

PowerCli script to generate the report for the VM and ESXi model
Hello
I'm trying to generate a report for the virtual machines to a domain controller that includes the operating system, Cluster and host of brand and model of ESXi, but for some reason any the ESXi info does not come through. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Get-data center 'TEST ' |
Get - vm |

Select Name, @{N = "OS"; e = {$_.}} Extensiondata.Guest.GuestFullName}},
@{N = "Cluster"; E={$_. VMHost.Parent}},
@{N = 'Esxi model'; E = {Get-VMHost - VM $_.} VM | {{Select model}}
The virtual machine has the properties of the host. For your information "Model ESXi" use $_. VMhost.Model, $_ is the current information for pipeline for the virtual machine. You did for the section "cluster".

VMware Tools for ESXi not in running and not installed
(nested) Tools of ESXi does not.
I installed an ESXi 5.5 nested on a physical and installed 5.5 ESXi host tools on the virtual ESXi5.5.
However both the client c# as the Web Client report not (not running, not installed) tools.
When I type 'list of software esxcli vib', I see the esx-tools-for-esxi in the list.
I have attached the vmware.log for the nested ESXi, I use nesting for several years only and had no problems.
Thanks in advance
You are hiding the fact that you run in a virtual machine, if the tools do not start. Shut down the virtual computer, remove this line from your configuration file and restart:
monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = true

script which gives the hostname with more CPU resources and memory available
Hello
Anyone have a script which gives the hostname with more CPU resources and memory available in the cluster?
Concerning
Vickie
Hello, VicMware-
You can get the host with the free CPU, or with the most free memory resources, using the following:
## get the host with the most free CPU cyclesGet-Cluster myCluster0 | Get-VMHost | Select-Object Name, @{n="CpuMhzFree"; e={$_.CpuTotalMhz - $_.CpuUsageMhz}} | Sort-Object -Property CpuMhzFree -Descending | Select -First 1 ## get the host with the most free memoryGet-Cluster myCluster0 | Get-VMHost | Select-Object Name, @{n="MemGBFree"; e={$_.MemoryTotalGB - $_.MemoryUsageGB}} | Sort-Object -Property MemGBFree -Descending | Select -First 1
The first would have produced something like:
Name CpuMhzFree ---- ---------- myVMHost0 25384
And the latter didn't would be out:
Name MemGBFree ---- --------- myVMHost4 122.323
.. .or each of these host computers are those with the most free memory/CPU cluster, respectively. What to do the things for which you are looking?

9.0 pre-installed VMware I installed in my laptop. I created a 5.0 as a VM ESXi in workstation. And I installed vSphere client 5.0 in my laptop. And I am able to access ESXi from my laptop through the vSphere client.
Now, I created a VM with Windows 2008 R2 on top of ESXi. I installed vCenter 5.0 in Windows 2008 R2 Machine. I have just to connect to vCenter using vSphere client (which has been installed in my laptop) and added ESXi as host in the inventory.
Now, I created a VM with Openfiler. Everything is fine. I want to use this Openfiler as a storage array, and I want the SAN with ESXi and Openfiler configuration.
I think I need to create a VMkernel port group and attach that Openfiler VM who. And if I want to access the Openfiler web interface, do I need to have internet access? We can access the Openfiler Web interface without having access to the internet?
Can someone let me know how to connect this Openfiler as a storage Bay for ESXi and configure a San.
Openfiler does not need Internet access and you do not require an additional VMkernel port for access. If it's production, you share the management and traffic on NIC iSCSI physical separate and thus vmkernel ports. In this case, it is not necessary. Did you do the initial installation of Openfiler to create a LUN for the ESXi host access?

Configuration of NIC for ESXi 4.1
Happy to wander what others do for their NETWORK card for ESXi 4.1 configuration I want to use the following:
pNIC0-> vSwitch0-> Portgroup0 (management)
pNIC1-> vSwitch0-> Portgroup1 (VMotion)
pNIC2-> vSwitch1-> Portgroup2 (the VM network)
pNIC3-> vSwitch1-> Portgroup2 (the VM network)
pNIC4-> vSwitch2-> Portgroup3 (DMZ network)
pNIC5-> vSwitch2-> Portgroup3 (DMZ network)
I don't have that much wandering DMZ traffic so if I should use one of the DMZ NIC for VMotion or management.
Mike
According to me, it looks good, you have redundancy built in. The only thing that we do, and maybe you do the same thing is on our vSwitch0 active/standby network interface cards to each other. The other vSwitches are set to active/active.

Script to set the CPU and memory for VMS
Hi all
We have an environment with 100's of virtual machines. We have classified these VMs, and each category will have specific vMem and vCPU. Excel / csv spreadsheet has the list of virtual machines, as well as the values of vCPU and vMem. I'm looking for a script that can set the values of vCPU and vMem for virtual machines according to the directives of the excel sheet. If anyone can help with this?
Thank you very much
Try this. I took the function of hotadd from here:
http://ICT-freak.nl/2009/10/05/PowerCLI-EnableDisable-the-VM-hot-add-features/
I tested against 1 VM and it works well. It will make a loop and power all VM power off in parallel, then it will change all. Then turn on all at the same time. If you do not parallel you can change it.
I would like to test in your lab or against 1-2 not prod the first VM.
Same CSV colum
VMNAME, MEM, CPU
Function Enable-MemHotAdd($vm){ $vmview = Get-vm $vm | Get-View $vmConfigSpec = New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineConfigSpec $extra = New-Object VMware.Vim.optionvalue $extra.Key="mem.hotadd" $extra.Value="true" $vmConfigSpec.extraconfig += $extra $vmview.ReconfigVM($vmConfigSpec)} Function Enable-vCpuHotAdd($vm){ $vmview = Get-vm $vm | Get-View $vmConfigSpec = New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineConfigSpec $extra = New-Object VMware.Vim.optionvalue $extra.Key="vcpu.hotadd" $extra.Value="true" $vmConfigSpec.extraconfig += $extra $vmview.ReconfigVM($vmConfigSpec)} $vmlist = Import-CSV C:\csvfile.csv foreach ($item in $vmlist) { $vmname = $item.vmname Stop-VM -VM $vmname -RunAsync }foreach ($item in $vmlist) { $vmname = $item.vmname $cpu = $item.cpu $mem = [int]$item.mem * 1024 Enable-MemHotAdd $vmname Enable-vCpuHotAdd $vmname Set-VM -VM $vmname -NumCpu $cpu -MemoryMB $mem -RunAsync -Confirm:$false } foreach ($item in $vmlist) { $vmname = $item.vmname Start-VM -VM $vmname -RunAsync }
