My computer keeps restarting. Whenever I get "Configuring updates. Step 3 of 3 0% complete. Do not put the computer", then reboot again.

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap theF8 key repeatedly until you are presented with theBoot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
    3. Select the Safe Mode option with the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
    6. Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.

    to boot from the dvd drive to be able to you will see a way to get into the bios Setup at the bottom of the screen or command menu start

    It would be F2 or delete etc to enter the BIOS or F12 etc. for the start menu

    Change boot order it do dvd drive 1st in the boot order

    If it doesn't, try a startup repair and / or a system restore using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft

    Manufacturers recovery disks normally do not have Service Options; they are normally a relocation to the factory only settings option.

    Here is the guide to repair Options using a Vista DVD from Microsoft.

    If a friend or a work acquantance of yours has one, you can borrow and use it for repairs.

    When starting computer I get the message "Configuring updates 3 of 3-0% completed - turn a computer." Continue to repeat this message after it restarts and the computer will never start

    Try these steps to remedy:

    Restore point:

    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

  • Vista security patches installed as of 13/10/09. No errors but the system hangs on configuring updates step 3 of 3

    I allowed that the installation of Security dated 10/13 Vista patches last night on my laptop. Download and installation didn't report any errors. When I've allowed the restart of the system shutdown and returned upward to the screen that says: Configuring updates stage 3 of 3 0% not full not power off System. It has been so for more than 24 hours. Is it possible to interrupt this process or what are my options?  There are no errors has just the configuration screen. No disk activity. Just put it there.

    I guess that part of the question could be a driver which is really old or similar should not be loaded.

    This exit Windows updates on (after you have access) and stop the updates of the driver to load.

    Help please before you take a hammer to the laptop. The update seems to be in a loop and for 3 days I wasn't able to stop or delete it. I turned off, left running for hours on end and tried everything I can think of. How can I erase this. I'm not very good with computers, so maybe it's a simple answer then excuses.

    I have vista and it says please wait for configuration updates stage 3 of 3. It seems that this will not happen and keeps powering down and back up and it gives me the same message again.     I realize that there may be several other threads on this topic but, having looked around the web, none of the solutions proposed (including the 949358 section of Microsoft) works for me.

    My sons laptop has Vista pre-installed (no disk). When I use F8 and use Safe or last good known Configuration, it goes through those but then try to install the update 3 who sends in a loop!

    The Microsoft Article does not either because it suggests, by clicking on START, but the computer has not got to the point where the MARKET is available when trying to install the update!

    I should add that my son got an important (and long) piece of schoolwork on the computer that we can't access now!

    I am very few impressive COMPUTER skills so all thought VERY welcome!

    I have a new laptop which is now stuck in this loop, where it says 3/3 configuration and then restarts I tried to restart and clicked on doesn't fix it no good. I then tried to go to the system restore and now my restore points are gone. the two options are therefore useless to me. My computer is preinstalled with vista home 64 bit. what I can do because I can't break the loop no matter how I try to start the computer (safe mode too). I really hate to reformat my computer, I have pictures of my kids, I can't go back. Anyone have any ideas? my email is * address email is removed from the privacy * thank you.

    This problem has been identified by Microsoft, but I can't start my computer in safe mode and it keeps giving the message above, then restarting.  The computer was pre-installed with Vista, and therefore, I don't have an installation disc.  I can't contact Microsoft Help about access to the id of the product I need to get into the computer system and I can't get past this error message.  Can anyone help because I do not see a recovery of the entire system from the CD I have which means that I will lose all my data, so I might as well do what I want to do that is to throw the machine out the window. I can only access the help on the internet using a different computer, so cannot even download patches that help the computer itself.   Please, please help!
