Configuring updates step 3 of 3 guard repeat/is stuck and does not start computer

When starting computer I get the message "Configuring updates 3 of 3-0% completed - turn a computer." Continue to repeat this message after it restarts and the computer will never start

Try these steps to remedy:

Restore point:

Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.
NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.
Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.
ISO Burner: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html
It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.
You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.
It is NOT a disc of resettlement.
And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.
    Windows does not start normally, just run chkdsk again and again
    First test the hard drive to make sure it's healthy. Test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility downloaded from site of the disc mftr. or use SeaTools for BACK of Seagate. You create a bootable CD with the files you download. You will need a third party burning software to do as the free ImgBurn, Nero or Roxio. Burn as an image, not in the form of data.
    http://www.ImgBurn.com
    http://www.Seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/SeaTools/seatooldreg
    http://Seagate.custkb.com/Seagate/CRM/selfservice/search.jsp?docid=201271 (how-to)
    Boot with the CD that you have done and do a full test of the reader. The physical tests fail, replace it.
    If the hard drive then passes the physical tests, safe mode:
    Start > run > cmd [Enter]
    fsutil dirty query c: (or the appropriate drive letter) [Enter]
    This will tell you if the disc is dirty or not. Then always in cmd:
    chkntfs /x c: (or the appropriate drive letter) [Enter]
    This tells Windows not not to check this drive at startup. Reboot and it should go on the desktop. Once Windows loaded, run cmd and:
    Chkdsk /f /r c: (or the appropriate drive letter) [Enter]
    CHKDSK will run through all 5 steps. After that it's over, always in cmd:
    fsutil dirty query c: (or the appropriate drive letter) [Enter]
    to see that the dirty bit is not set on this drive.
  • Configuring updates 3 of 3 remains at 90% for hours, and then finally my computer starts. How can I solve this problem?
    When I stop my laptop and reboot I get the text next message on my screen of configuration updates to date 3/3 0% then it goes straight to 90% and stay like that for at least 6 hours. So, I'm on my login screen. I have a laptop Acer Aspire 2920. Then when I log in there is not problems that all programs work correctly.
    Hello
    It happens every time you start the computer?
    If this is the only time where you received this message, then it is because updates is installed on the computer and gets set up when you start the computer.
    If this happens every time that you start the computer, and then follow the steps below to solve the problem:
    Method 1: Try in safe mode.
    Step 1: Try to boot in safe mode and check if the problem persists:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode
    Step 2: If the problem does not persist in safe mode then I suggest that you put the computer to boot and see whether incompatible software:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135
    Note: Configure the computer to normal startup by following step 7 from the link above.
    Method 2: If above method does not resolve the issue, I would say that you are running the commissioning, repair and check if it helps to fix the problem:
  • Windows 8 for Windows xp update fails at 90% and does not start.
    I read the below and see if there are solutions.
    I paid for 1 hour to help Microsoft Tech to take on my desktop computer and at the end
    He said there are so many chat lines, he could not follow after clicking on install.
    He beat anything, antivirus, I disconnected all devices except the mouse and keyboard.
    Of course the update, which I downloaded and confirmed with their diagnosis that the
    computer has been updated failed 90% and would not restart.
    When I went to system logs, I even tried to disable restore.
    Nothing helps.
    I think there must be something which is not allow restarting after installation.
    The message just says: failed to install. No diagnosis or whatever it is.
  • My phone is lock and does not start after you install an update to Windows.
    After you have installed the Windows Vista Home Premium on my laptop, I am unable to start my laptop properly.
    Boots systems and load normally until the display of connection where instead of the login screen, I show the screen updated frozen on "Installing part 3/3 (0%) update." The laptop stays on this screen, with the cursor froze with a loading icon, for about half a minute until the screen shuts off and reboots the system, put the system in a loop, I can't on.
    I tried: turning off on and powered. using advanced boot options to open the system to all types of 'Safe Mode' and leaving the laptop for some time before trying to turn on the system again. All these things have not worked and the system remains in the lock down.
    I wonder if it is a common problem after the latest Vista updates or if it is more specific to my laptop. Whatever it is, any kind of feedback and advice would be most appreciated.
    I didn't want to be informed of updates to two-day but inadvertently somehow I am struck back for all notifications.
    I've updated to IE 10 and it should be updated to complete. My preference is Firefox, but it does not start and produces an error box telling me that Firefox could not start, it also sends you a report of failure.
    Hey Janeynflorida
    1st thing to try is a restoration of the system in safe mode
    http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system_restore.htm
    Windows Vista
    Using the F8 method:
    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap theF8 key repeatedly until you are presented with theBoot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
    3. Select the Safe Mode option with the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
    6. Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.
