Vista security patches installed as of 13/10/09. No errors but the system hangs on configuring updates step 3 of 3

I allowed that the installation of Security dated 10/13 Vista patches last night on my laptop. Download and installation didn't report any errors. When I've allowed the restart of the system shutdown and returned upward to the screen that says: Configuring updates stage 3 of 3 0% not full not power off System. It has been so for more than 24 hours. Is it possible to interrupt this process or what are my options?  There are no errors has just the configuration screen. No disk activity. Just put it there.

Hello

I guess that part of the question could be a driver which is really old or similar should not be loaded.

This exit Windows updates on (after you have access) and stop the updates of the driver to load.

    None of these suggestions to the Microsoft support technician will help you, but they will consume large amounts of your time.

    Please post a link to this Marilyn Microsoft engineer answer Support responses involving some registry maybe going to I can see that too.

    Older versions of PowerDesk Pro 7.x are known to cause explore crash, so that the sounds on the right.

    The current version of PowerDesk Pro is 8.5.

    You might be able to get the old version to behave by disabling PowerDesk one shell extensions at a time until when you right-click Explorer no longer crashes.  This will leave you with limited functionality of PowerDesk since those afflicted extensions will be disabled, but you should not have these extensions to do anything, you need to make sheets.

    I would start with the PowerDesk ZIP shell extension (I already know about this one).

    It is a version shortened and changed my notes on the use of ShellExView (since you already think sheets):

    Download ShellExView here to see what Explorer extensions you have loaded:

    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/shexview.html

    ShellExView does not install anything on your computer, simply of runs and displays.

    After launching ShellExView, under Options, choose "Mark non-Microsoft Extensions" and extensions not Microsoft will be pink, clear, but on some systems which is a difficult color to see, so click on display, choose the columns and move the column Microsoft closer to the top, so you can see on your screen without having to scroll left and right.

    Click on the column header for Microsoft sort display (by clicking on the column of Microsoft) then all the non Microsoft extensions are on top and easy to see.

    Non-Microsoft extensions would be things you have added (non-Microsoft) and are what you should be suspect.

    You can also Google the name of a suspect add-on and see if there is any success on the mistakes of the DEP and what other people have done about it.

    For example, you could Google something like:

    Explorer XP crashing (you must fill in the name of add your suspect on.)

    See what kind of search results hits you get and are looking for solutions or situations that sound like yours.

    Right click and disable Microsoft no suspicious extensions one at a time take a list so you can enable them again later if you wish.

    The result of the change is immediate and no reboot is necessary.  Test your failure condition.  If the Explorer starts to behave, you will know which extension is the culprit, then you can start to enable them one by one until the Explorer fails again.

    Don't forget - disabling the extension does not uninstall the extension - it is just disabled so you can always turn it on again.

    Disable them one at a time until your right click on do not generate an error, then restart and test again.  You have disabled the last extension would be suspicious.  You can then start to reactivate other extensions to zero on the extensions that are causing your accident

    If the cause of the accident is a third party application or program, their may be a later version of the program available that solves the problem.

    If you find the offending extension that's the problem, please let us know what it is that I can add to my list.

  • Vista SP2 enterprise. Updates to Windows from 11 August caused the system hang after starting.

    Œuvres of mouse pointer, but the catch systems when I click on any element of the bar of tasks or office. OK works in safe mode. System Restore to a date before the updates does not help. I've eliminated all unnecessary programs in menu start, including NVIDIA drivers, but the problem persists.  Any suggestions?  Thank you!

    Hi Mathew and Imran;

    Thank you.  After several reboots, add and remove services, I believe a solution to the problem.   It seems that McAfee Total Protection disliked among updates August 11... or the update did not like 'total Protection '.

    After much frustration, I removed any trace of McAfee, first using windows uninstaller, then running the downloaded program to uninstall McAfee. I then installed Microsoft Security Essentials and downloaded and re-installed McAfee Site Advisor.

    I don't think I have the same level of protection as I had before, but the system is faster and I think that I have an adequate level of security.  I'll leave it as it is for now.

    I don't want this post as a blow against McAfee, they are an industry leader in computer security and 'Total Protection' provided exactly that.  We have a second PC in our House... material of identical office however, but under Vista Home Premium, whereas this one is running Vista Business.  Home Premium system runs 'Total Protection' and has not experienced the same problem, as the system of the company.  What's up mind dat?  It runs more slowly, probably because of McAfee files analysis procedures.

    If Security Essentials works well in the coming months on this system, I can install it on the other system, as well as on my laptop.  In more than 10 years (from Windows 98 to Vista), we always used McAfee products and have NEVER had a viral infection.  Is it because of MCafee or our own due diligence?  Assume that this is not serious.

    Thanks again for your help.  You got me on the right track!  Best regards... TeeDubTW

    I also have problems with installation or update all drivers. I keep getting the same error message as everyone another (Windows found driver software for your device, but has encountered an error trying to install it.) I tried to install the drivers from a Web site of the manufacturer (canon), update the driver from windows, cd rom and my USB port. Nothing works. I not made any changes to my laptop and I have to download/install updates regularly.  Come to think of it, I think that this has been a problem for a long time that I was not able to install an update on my 8400 M GS of Nvidia G-force several months > it continues just failing. Hi gigikhanoom,

    1. you receive messages or error codes?

    2. you remember to make changes to the computer before this problem?

    Windows doesn't detect all antivirus programs, and some antivirus programs report their status to Windows.

    If you receive notifications related to security on your virus protection software, but you know that your antivirus software is installed and updated, you can follow the steps below to stop receiving these notifications.

    Note: You should only do this if you are sure you have a complete and up-to-date antivirus program installed on your computer and that real-time scanning, which checks every file before it opened or used, is turned on.

    For more information, consult the following link:

    Use antivirus software that Windows doesn't find

    If you're still having problems, then you can try to uninstall and reinstall Kaspersky and check.

    You can visit the links below to uninstall and reinstall Kaspersky:

    Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

    This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

    This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

    -Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
    For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
    Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

    For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
    Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
    your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
    Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
    Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

    Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
    with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

    Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
    Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
    BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

    Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

    Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
    presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
    in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

    Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

    Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

    If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows

  • Windows Vista starts with white screen - dwm.exe and dllhost.exe errors on the hard drive.

    original title: freezing after login! ... disk hard dwm.exe and dllhost.exe errors. As usual load screen and then nothing can be used/open to all. Occasionally start opens and closes and nothing else beyond.

    Cannot use the laptop mode safe mode with networking. Have you tried to repair registry free of bugs and using Vista install with view to repair OS repair disk, but there are a lot of people having this problem different from this problem with dwm.exe dwm.exe or versions/varieties. This is is produced immediately after the download and installation of Microsoft Updates I might add.  Please can someone help?  Thank you very much... LiZ :)

    Never use Registry Repair programs.

    They can cause more harm than good.

    Remove the Vista updates; two ways to do this:

    1. a System Restore to before the updates:

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > System Restore > restore time/choose your own date > next

    If you use Norton, disable it before using the system restore.

    If it is impossible to enter the Normal Mode, do a Safe Mode system restore:

    Press F8 at the startup/power and the list of startup options, use THE ARROW key to select Safe mode > and then press ENTER.

    System restore steps according to the info above.

    Also:

    2. click on start > right click on computer > properties > Windows updates down the lower left corner > updates installed in the lower left corner in the next window

    > then click the one that you don't want > uninstall will appear at the top > uninstall it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In addition, on the page where you clicked "Installed updates", click on change settings at the top left corner it
    > Change update settings in the next page of AutoUpdate to "check for updates but let me choose etc" > OK ".
    When you take a look at pending updates, you can either download/install them one at the time, namely the update causing you problems.
    > or if you do not need an individual > right-click on > UAC prompt > hide it
  • Re: After installing Bitdefender cannot access F8 at startup to recover the system.
    Bidefender installed on a Satellite L755 out-of-the box. When the Starter have 2 options:
    Recovery of BitDefender or Windows 7. Any option is selected, the laptop stuck. Wanted to use F8 to access recovery and reset the machine to factory default. Hit F8 at start-up no duct.
    Get the same 2 options as above. Thanks to Windows 7 option tried the last known good configuration.
    The machine does something and stuck. Tried my Win7 64 Ultimate DVD.
    The machine does something for a few seconds and got stuck.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    I put t know what have you made exactly, but always is he that (F8) HARD drive recovery facility works with the factory only settings.
    In General, you should be able to access boot options using F8 at startup. If the repair my computer option will be that there is something else.
    If you can't access recovery using F8 image you must use the recovery for the OS installation disc. Have you created this disk by following the instructions of Toshiba?
    What you have tried and what is happening exactly?
