Configure my AirPort Extreme

Can someone please show me the best configuration for my AirPort Extreme, I have the internet provider cable (Charter Communications) and I am connected to the modem via an ethernet cable and connected to AirPort Extreme to my iMac via an ethernet cable. What should be my settings in AirPort Utility for maximum speed for my wireless devices, i.e. the iPhones and iPads.

Thank you

AirPort Extreme is already set to provide maximum speeds, so there is not really what you would normally do in the way of adjustment of parameters of AirPort Utility for maximum performance.

The Airport offers simultaneous 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signals using the same name of wireless network for both bands.  Wireless devices will pick up and choose the best connection based on their abilities and the distance to the airport.

If you have a number of 5 GHz devices which will be normally located near the AirPort Extreme, you can use AirPort Utility option to assign a name different to the 5 GHz band wireless network to ensure that the devices always connect to the 5 GHz network.

Personally, I do not use this option, because I'd rather have the devices to choose their stronger ... not necessarily the fastest connection link, but some users swear by assign a different name to the network 5 GHz and their pointing devices then to this network. This works well if the devices that support 5 GHz are close to the airport, but if the camera moves a few rooms away, it will tend to cling to the connection of 5 GHz when the 2.4 GHz connection is stronger and also probably faster at this place.

Otherwise, the wireless is quite simple. Signals are fast and powerful, when a unit's line of sight at the airport. As a device moves away, the connection will slow down. If there are walls or other obstacles in the path of the signal, the signal will slow down even more try to get through the obstacles.

You can't disable the radio 2.4 GHz on the AirPort Extreme. At best, you can rename your network 5 GHz with a different name from that of the 2.4 GHz radio. You can then connect your clients to the 5 GHz network wirelessly. However, the downside there is that the higher frequency band has more difficulty to walk through walls and you can not find the signal outside the room that the base station can be used.

  • How can I configure my Airport Extreme in Bridge mode (use the 3rd party router)?

    Data sheet:

    Airport Extreme - v 7.7.7

    Luma Surround Wifi 8

I recently bought a wifi (luminance) surround system.  It comes with 3 routers that you place around your home.  Unfortunately I still have stains died in my house I'm looking to add my Airport Extreme (AE) to Luma network.  Is it as simple as plug the AE to the network (via Ethernet) and the bridge mode selection in the configuration of EI?

I can see the AE of my iMac, and it is green.  How do you know that actually extend the wifi of my router Luma range?

I searched the forum and all messages dealing with this are several years old.

    Thanks for your time...

Basically, you want to create a mobile network with your Luma and AirPort Extreme routers. As you said, the extreme would need to be connected to the luminance by Ethernet and reconfigured as a bridge.

In addition, the following are also required on the extreme:

    • Wireless mode: create a wireless network
    • The network name must be the same as that used by the Luma.
    • The type of wireless security and the password must match that of the luminance as well.

To 'know' that the extreme extends the network of Luma, simply consult the BSSID value in the drop-down of OS X Wi - Fi. It must match the ID of the airport on your base station. Note: You must hold down the option key before clicking on the icon of the free Wi - Fi connection.

  • Wifi configuration with Airport Extreme (A1143), iMac (El Capitan) running. Need of a direction.

I recently moved to a City University and living in a housing facility run by the University. It's got broadband by Comcast for free with the room. I plugged all the necessary equipment (modem and cable) to the iMac and the internet works well for a week now.

Now I want Wifi for the apartment. I decided to dust off my old 1st or 2nd Gen extreme base station Airport. I read that it can still work with El Capitan, so I went and tried to install it. First of all, I updated the firmware and connected the appropriate cables. Everything seemed to go in the direction of the work, but I hit a bump on the road. Wifi works for the iMac. I unplugged the ethernet cable and it's receiving internet, but I tried to get my iPad Wifi and smart phone and it doesn't seem to work. I used the good passwords etc. Nothing.

I found it odd that I get Wifi to my iMac, although the Airport Extreme light is orange. Normally, it should be green. Of course, I don't use this thing in forever and actually don't think it would work, but so far the iMac becomes Wifi, but aren't the other devices and auburn is turned on. So here's a screenshot of what I see in the Airport utility.

Can anyone help or point me to the right direction? Also it has to do with the campus of the internet, I'm getting?

The attached picture shows it's getting to the internet via wifi (not plugged into the modem) but he doesn't seem to get wifi on my other devices in the apartment. The Airport base station we connected directly to the Modem. I also followed the steps of my iMac had originally planned to make it work and it did, but only for the iMac. I expect the unit to green thereafter but he did not. What gives?

The A1143 was introduced in January 2007 and arrested in March 2009, so the model you have is at least 7 years and older, and as much as 9 + depending on when the product has been implemented.

The average lifetime of a router designed for home use is about 5 years, so we're not sure how much time and effort you want to invest in AirPort Extreme you have there.

Frankly, it is remarkable that the product works for the iMac, because status messages indicate that you have an Internet connection.  We cannot explain this one.

We also don't know if amber on the most convenient airport is flashing, or remains Orange fixed. Can clarify you on this, please?

If you want to try to start over again and set up the AirPort Extreme, the first bit of information that we need is the number of brand and model of your modem.  We don't need a serial number, only the manufacturer name and number for the modem to the model.

We will try to help, but who can give no assurance that we will be able to get things working for you.

  • ICan I use Time Capsule in my Airport extreme to save files Ihave on my windows7 computer?

How can I configure my Airport extreme, time capsule 3 to use the portion of the time capsule for the backup of my Sony VAIO computer?

You can back up a windows computer to Time Capsule but I do not recommend.

Any backup software that can use target network should work.

Macrium Reflect is the one I use, I know the Time Capsule works.

Time line of engineering is a concept similar to Time Machine for PC... It's more that I want to make, but it doesn't seem to be a free version... How good or bad or I do not know what limits.

Internal backup software MS is generally useless... at least up to win 8.1 10.

NOTE... A USB connected to the laptop computer and formatted NTFS native is far superior to backup to TC which is formatted HFS + (illegible for windows) which is networked that the SMB protocol and treaded as NT server with all its limitations with FAT32.

  • Problem with firewall AirPort Extreme.

HI, I need help. I recently bought an AirPort Extreme router. The router doesn't let me download the movie on the web Icdrama.se. I'm trying to set the firewall in bridge mode, but my router automatic guard return to DHCP and Nat mode. I wonder how can I keep my stay of router in bridged mode, so that I can watch my movie fav, please help

When the reconfiguration of a base station AirPort as a bridge, it should NOT automatically reconfigure itself back using DHCP and NAT. something was wrong in the configuration of the base station or the base station itself is defective.

Did you use your iPad to configure your AirPort Extreme? What is the brand and model of the modem Internet extreme directly connected by Ethernet to?

  • Network configuration of Roaming Wifi problem I just bought an Airport Extreme and I intend to use it as my router

I just bought a refurbished Airport Extreme and I intend to use it as my router & combine with our old time Capsule of existing one to create a roaming Wifi network.

The new Airport Extreme (renovated) is in my studio/Office - directly connected to our internet broadband wireless (WAN port)

Our small ethernet is connected to my iMac [mid 2010 running OSX 10.11.5] & a PC and extends up to 2 other domains through an ethernet switch.

This configuration works very well, our internet speed has improved slightly - better than our old T-Link router bit.  WiFi available throughout the House - better on one side.

Time Capsule (2 TB) is connected by ethernet on the far side of the House, offer backup Time Machine and strong Wifi to this area.

This time Capsule was an existing installation that went perfectly with the T-Link before I bought the Airport Extreme.

I used the Airport utility to set everything up and it seems to work.

    The problem is:

Combines the Capsule and extreme connected & active, the Internet gradually slows down and grinds to stop. -Wifi seems to follow suit, but is much more gradual.

If I disable the Time Capsule, the internet connection is back to normal, Airport Extreme Wifi signal is strong and extends to almost all areas.

I got to the departure of the two units configuration problems, so I reset both factory default and from that moment managed to do all this work - with the exception that the internet connection slows down.  Whenever I visit a different web site, it takes more time to load/link upward.

I spoke with our ISP, the link to our tower is solid. The technology suggested that I put Wifi on each unit to use a different channel (2 frequencies & several channels each available).

So far, this has not resolved the problem, I will continue to make adjustments.

I googled this - most of the answers are not to date - usually 2012, 13, 14. and not directly related to my situation.  But I will continue my search.

I'd appreciate if anyone here has any suggestions

The new Airport Extreme (renovated) is in my studio/Office - directly connected to our internet broadband wireless (WAN port)

What is the number and the model of the modem or modem/router that your ISP has provided you?

Should we assume that you use a Mac with the help of a current or recent operating system?

If you get out of the Capsule of time and leaves disabled for now, the network AirPort Extreme continue to run at full speed for a few hours and not slow down?

We ask these questions because we must first confirm that the AirPort Extreme works properly until we can begin to troubleshoot the connection to Time Capsule.

  • Configuration of the Airport Extreme problem and Vigor 120

    Hi all

This is the case, I have vigor installation 120 in Bridge mode with my airport extreme with settings pppoe settings of my ISP of vpi/vci: 8/35 pppoe/llc adsl2 + login and password, when the force as a router configuration, there worked perfectly, but in Bridge mode has managed to establish a PPPoE to pc but when the connection with the airport no luck I got an invalid ip address and orange light flashing.

I have the latest in airport and vigor firmware and I'm doing a powecycle reboot after each change.

Here are the settings in effect 120

Any help would be more than welcome

It's sad to say THAT PPPOE on the Apple is not reliable.

I have the same problem... I can't use routers Apple with PPPOE on my modem in bridge... regardless of the brand.

PPPOE is a bunch of variations... PAP or CHAP for example... and the number of... repeated attempts time between repetitions.

Apple offers zero... whether it's no control... they are all available right now to find out what newspapers or.

I had to simply replace the Apple router with another router... any other router seems to work fine... It's just the Apple that failed on me...

I tried with several different Apple routers using all the old firmware, at latest... all fail. So I guess it's less coherent.

  • How is my AirPort Extreme from of unauthorized configuration?

I've set up my AirPort Extreme, she seems to have a good solid connection. I used my iPhone and AirPort to utility in place. Now I wonder, what keeps other users in the configuration? I only put in place a network password, not a configuration password. Anyone who knows my network password and have AirPort Utility on their iPhone arrive to my network?

If you have not set up a password of The Base Station , then anyone on your wireless network with AirPort Utility will have access to the configuration of your AirPort Extreme settings.

Now may be a good time to add a password for the Base Station if you have not already done this.

Tap on the AirPort Utility open on your iPhone

Press the image of AirPort Extreme

    Tap on edit

    Tap Base Station

Enter a password you want to use as a password for the Base Station or device

    Check the password again

    Tap done

    Tap done again

    Press update if prompted

  • Airport Extreme with guest network configuration

    Hello

I have a two-storey house and want to spend an Airport Extreme on each floor.

In technichal room I have my ISP and a witch (192.168.1.0) dhcp router

There is also a switch and a patchpanel which I have connected my extreme two boxes to.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to implement it properly? I would like to have internal wich wpa2 network and a network of comments without password and of course I want to have the same ssid, etc. on each floor.

    Thanks in advance.

    Henning

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to implement it properly?

There's the rub.  Since you have a router supports DHCP and NAT services to the network 'upstream' extremes of the airport, the airports must be configured in Bridge Mode to avoid Double NAT error that occurs when you have more than one router on a network.

Unfortunately, the network comments feature does not work correctly when the airport is in Mode Bridge connected to another router.  The 'main' or private network works OK, but 'guests' will not be able to access the Internet.

The only way to do what you want would be to configure things wrong by...

    (1) connect to an AirPort Extreme to the switch and configure it as a router to "create a wireless network" using DHCP and NAT.

    (2) linking the second AirPort Extreme for the first AirPort Extreme... not to the switch... and implement the extreme second "extend using Ethernet.

Since you will have a Double NAT on the network, there is no guarantee that things will not work properly. Sometimes you can get away with a Double NAT error on a simple network, but it can cause difficulties of communication between devices on the network and the difficulties with Internet connections as well.

If you have a console online game and want to play interactively on the Internet, the Double NAT error will not allow this to happen.  Similarly, if you plan to use Back To My Mac or Port Forwarding for access over the Internet to remote devices, the Double NAT will allow these connections probably not happen.

We do not recommend a Double NAT Setup, but we have some ideas on how to do it. There of probably no harm in trying the Double NAT configuration if you have the time and are willing to experiment to see if it peut work for you, I'm sorry, but there are no guarantees here.

  • Xfinity X 1 modem/router is compatible with the Airport Extreme? How it should be configured to maintain my wireless network?

I got a modem Comcast/Xfinity upgrade. Xfinity X 1 modem/router is compatible with the Airport Extreme? How it should be configured to maintain my wireless network?

Whenever you change the modem or modem/router on a network, AirPort Extreme will be reset to the default settings and then set it up again to work properly with the new modem. For this he would be...

Turn on AirPort Extreme for a few minutes... If it is not already turned on

Hold in the reset button on the back of the AirPort Extreme for 7-8 seconds, then release it.

Allow a minute for the AirPort Extreme restart to a slow, flashing amber light status

Make sure that an Ethernet cable connects to one of the four LAN <-->Ethernet ports on the modem/router on port WAN "O" on AirPort Extreme

To start the Setup program, click the WiFi icon at the top of the screen on your Mac and are looking for a list of the new AirPort base station

Just below that, click directly on the AirPort Extreme and then follow the prompts for configuration "Wizard".

When you configure AirPort Extreme once again, you can use the same wireless network name and the same password that you used with AirPort Extreme with the 'old' modem, if you wish, or use a new wireless network name and password

  • How to configure WRT54G as a follow-up to my Airport extreme "n".

    I bought a WRT54G version 1 less than 6 months ago.

Last week I got a Time Capsule from Apple with Airport Extreme 802.11n.

As the Time Capsule AE "n" will be faster,

I would use it rather than the main router.

But how do the WRT54G an extension

    EI?

basically is there a way I can configure two routers to work

together and make the best of each?

    Thanks in advance

Ignore the saber_tooth. It is just repeat everything. If you have a WRT54G web interface is something like this. You have to change the next radio button to disable the DHCP server on the WRT to the ' DHCP server: "leave"Enabled"to"disabled. "

On the same page, you will also need to change the "local IP address". The default is 192.168.1.1. You must change this IP address to an available inside the Apple LAN address. The LAN on the most convenient airport is set up under the network tab of the Airport utility (at least on Windows version). The standard is to "distribute IP addresses" and "share a single IP address (using DHCP and NAT)" and to use the addressing 10.0.1.1/24.

You can also view this information on Windows, in a command prompt window by entering "ipconfig". The interesting information is the IP address on the connection to the local network, the subnet mask and the default gateway. On a Mac, type "ifconfig" in a Terminal. Search the en0 interface, which should display the IP address after "inet" and the network mask. You will find the entry door with "netstat - rn". Locate the line of destination 'by default'. It shows the door entry in the second column.

The subnet mask or network mask is usually 255.255.255.0 or 0xffffff00. With this subnet mask, all IP addresses with the same three digits belong to the same subnet. If you have an IP 10.0.1.123 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 IP address 10.0.1.1 - 254 belong to the subnet. All IP addresses would be possible. Of course, you can not choose the IP address of the gateway (Airport). I don't know what IP address the airport itself uses by default. If you have any doubts, after the IP address, gateway address and subnet mask that you found on a computer that is connected to the Airport (i.e. The WRT not connected anywhere).

  • Airport Extreme - static IP configuration question

Question: AT & T has us on a range of public static IP address xx.xx.xxx.33 - 38 (six addresses). I already put in place with the gateway, subnet. But I need the Airport Extreme to provide more than just 6 addresses to support all of our devices. Is this possible and if yes, how I have set up?

Attempted solutions: I tried to expand the DHCP range manually in the settings of the utility. I changed it to 10.0.214.33 - 38 (which was the default range) to 10.0.214.30 - 39 to see if this helped more devices, but she did not.

Help, please! Our business leaders are coming and I need to have this resolved.

    Thank you

    -bo

The key is that Apple routers are designed for general public use. They don't have many options when it comes to commercial applications. You better get a router that provides these additional features. I recommend that you consider the research in routers of professional level provided by Cisco (or similar) for this purpose.

None of the available options, provided by AirPort Extreme, will be able to satisfy your needs network entirely.

For example, you can use the network > router Mode to 'DHCP' option only This would use a public ISP IP addresses for the base station and to distribute the five for customers... other required network, but you will not be able to use this setting to distribute IP addresses private network customers remaining, as this option disables the service NAT on the base station.

Will on the other hand, using the NAT and DHCP option would take care to provide for the remaining machines, private addresses but allow only one device is accessible with a public IP address by placing the appliance in a DMZ. Apple calls this a "default host".

  • Airport Extreme, Time Capsule best practices configuration

I searched for articles showing exactly what are the settings that I would see in my Airport Extreme Time Capsule. I put in place of the years before, but more recently WIFI was slow or choked several times a day. Our internet service provider recently upgraded its network, even though they claim that any slowdown is not their problem. I made sure the Time Machine backups do not cause them selfs. The Capsule is connected via CAT5 to the modem. All devices can connect wirelessly to the network.

Base Station name is unique. Network is not hidden. Password is super strong. Wireless security is WPA/WPA2 Personal, just in case the older devices need to connect. In the window of the wireless Options, 5 GHz network name is disabled. 2.4 and 5 GHz channels is set to automatic. Router mode network is DHCP and NAT.

I don't know if we're even using the 5 GHz mode. I want to make sure that we are optimizing on the installer. Any help is very appreciated.

    Wireless security is WPA/WPA2 Personal

It's bad... AC is optimized to WPA2 and you will suffer significant slow down with WPA1. Even if your TC is former model Wireless N, that customers with AC wireless cards will not work as well.

Use an AP gradually charge for older clients N or G... almost nothing today will be limited to the WPA1 unless it is very old and very slow.

Name of the 5 GHz network is unchecked. 2.4 and 5 GHz channels is set to automatic. Router mode network is DHCP and NAT.

The Apple 2.4 ghz speed limit... and always have.

You will get the wrong speed on 2.4 ghz and is therefore the only way to improve the speed force customers to 5 GHz that can usefully use it.

Check the 5 GHz range and give it a different name for the principal name wireless... It's the only way you can force clients to use the 5 GHz.

How old and exactly which model is the TC? The base A1xxx please if you do not know.

Age affects things. Routers wireless for some reason any servant of quality have a service life of about 3 years... the TC is actually worse than average... being more stressed to the load of the hard drive.

I made sure the Time Machine backups do not cause them selfs.

You actually turn off TM? Sometimes the TM always works, even when people think it's the start.

more recently WIFI was slow or choked several times per day

It's what I expected with TM still working on a computer.

Hello, I need help to set up airport Extrem with the OS X El Capitan. The system always show the same question:

You will not be able to administer the old 802.11 g with your Mac OS X El Capitan AirPort base stations.

    Basically, you have three options:

    1. Replace the Express with a newer 802.11n model.
    2. Use a Mac with OS X Lion or earlier version.
    3. Use a Windows XP or Windows 7 PC.
