Configure or upgrade windows computer?

I recently bought a new computer because I start video editing.   With a limited budget, I bought a Dell workstation renovated to a very good price, but I realize now that I should have done more research and I'm not sure that this is the best computer for this purpose. But I have, so I thought I'd ask while configuring it to best effect to use Premiere Pro: using hard drive, settings, etc. But I also have suggestions for upgrades that would make it run more efficiently for my purposes.  For example, can or should I upgrade the CPU card or graphics?

  1. Thank you.

Dell Precision Workstation T5810

Core Xeon E5-1603 v.3 four 10MB cache 2.8 GHz

NVIDIA Quadro K620 2 GB graphics card

2 TB hard drive 7200 RPM

16 GB OF RAM

Business Edition 8.1 Windows

read the articles to the Page Tweakers

You can check if the manual lists the processor upgrade options or you may need to contact dell. the dell Web page lists several cpu for this dell workstation when customizing to buy, such as the v3 E5-1650. in theory all single haswell-EP (E5-16xx v3) or double (E5-26xx v3) cpu should work in this motherboard, but confirm it again as much as you can before you buy. the E5-1630 v3 would be almost 2 x faster than the current value, well enough for the performance. the E5-1650 v3 is about 2.5 times faster than the current one. after start of the processor becomes much more expensive for their performance. a processor as the E5-2660 v3 can be about 3 x faster, but will be much more expensive.

upgrade to 32 GB would be recommended for large projects, or multitasking with other programs, or AE. According to what you do, the 16 GB may be ok for now. You must confirm the specification of memory with the manual or dell to ensure you buy the right type to add. as kingston memory Finder apps can also provide good memory to buy.

Depending on your media and your projects, as well as the cpu you upgraded to, you can be watching a gtx 960 970 or higher to improve/replace video card. you would need to ensure that the power supply in the system can handle the additional power draw and was necessary to plug into a new video card power cables. chances are it's power 425W during the generation of dell, listed options, which would limit the options for video cards to a gtx 960 customization. food can have 1x6pin, or 2x6pin 2x8pin connectors. You can buy a video card with the same connections. some 960 gtx models use a 1x6pin power connector.

According to your projects, 2 TB hard drive can be good to keep the media, or you may want to check the motherboard for raid-0 with hard drive, or just buy a large ssd. items on page tweakers will have several examples of disk configurations.

  • "Windows could not update the configuration to start the computer" error during the upgrade of Vista in Windows XP

I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 1505, that is running Windows XP Media Center Sp3. I'm doing a place in upgrading to Vista since the disks to upgrade Dell... Everything's fine until the 'Expansion of the files' [27%], then the installation fails with this message: "Windows could not update the configuration to start the computer. Installation cannot continue. Any changes made to your computer during the upgrade". I did a google search for a fix that involves changing a value in the registry in the HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E976-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} for example change the value to PartMgr Upperfilters. Unfortunately, this value was the default for my registry key changes could be made. Some other fixes involved the renaming of Upperfilter.bak, for Upperfilters unfortunately this .bak value does not exist in my registry.

I tried to boot from the disk of Vista and changing the msconfig for a selective startup but without result.

In addition, the stall even appears at a similar point when you try to upgrade to Windows 7. Is it because of the presence of hidden Media Direct and Dell restore partitions? Compatibility Assistant programs for the two operating systems found nothing significant. Anti virus has been disabled during the installation procedure. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hello

Not quite, but pretty close. Media Direct could not lock the boot sector. It must be a BIOS lock or a mechanism of protection provided by your antivirus software.  Given that, I would check your program settings then for all that prevents changes to the boot sector. You may find more easy just uninstall it and reinstall it after the upgrade. Good luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Crazy" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com Windows help - www.rickrogers.org

  • Need to upgrade a computer running Windows 2000 to Windows XP

We have a computer in the office that is still under Windows 2000.  What improvements we need to run to bring it up to Windows XP, to match other desktop computers?  Can I just buy a download of Windows XP, or is there an in-between system that must come first?

You cannot upgrade Windows 2000 to Windows XP, with or without a
"the in-between system". You must do a clean installation
    Windows XP.

Without knowing your hardware configuration, I can't tell you if
It is adequate for XP, but chances are if it's enough for Windows
2000, it is also adequate for XP.

So you would need to buy a full version of Windows XP (there is none
Downloads). Unfortunately, Windows XP is no longer available, if you
must seek and hope that a place still has one in stock. Or
you might find a copy used on sale somewhere. But if I were you, I would
Be very careful not to buy a place like eBay, because it
would most likely be a pirated copy it.

  • Default configuration of the windows features. Restoration of the changes. Do not turn off your computer... HEEELLLPP!

After restart my Asus X55oE due to necessary updates, I got «default configure features windows.» Restoration of the changes. Do not turn off your computer. After reading several messages through other forums, I turned it and then turn again only to receive the same screen. Some of these forums say that it can take 2 hours or more because of so many updates made at the same time. I think I was trying to upgrade windows 8 for windows 8.1.

I'm really worried about it just because I just got back this PC from ASUS and am needing to work. Can someone tell me if there are other options or make sure that it just take a while? I also read that you can actually go to the control panel > windows update > help to erase mistakes. Also, someone said that you can customize the number of updates at a time can be both. I certainly do not happen again. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

    Hello

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand you have questions while, Windows 8.1 in the computer installation.  We are happy to help you in the matter of fixing.

You can try to follow these suggestions mentioned in the Microsoft article below to solve the problem with the installation of Windows 8.1 because Windows 8.1 is also an update for Windows 8 and these suggestions would help you with the same.

"Configuration of the Windows updates failed. Restoration of the changes. Do not turn off your computer"error when you try to install Windows updates

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/949358/en-us

Note: refer to "How to reset the computer to start normally after a boot minimum troubleshooting" to prepare the computer to start as usual after a repair.

Important: When you use system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, the programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

If this does not help then, try to disable anti-virus and see if that helps.

    Disable the anti-virus software

(Also applies to Windows 8 and 8.1 of widows)

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/disable-antivirus-software#1TC=Windows-7

Note : Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attack.

I hope this helps. Otherwise, feel free to write us again for more assistance, and we will be happy to help you come.

Lol when you upgrade you send upwards with a license, not two. The license of Vista is subsumed in Windows 7 one and can no longer be used. This is the reason for which an upgrade is cheaper than licensed full.

I just bought Windows 7 upgrade Windows Vista. I get the error message: operation is not supported on this platform. What should I do to get this latest version in my computer?

Have you tried to do an upgrade installation or a custom installation?  A custom installation requires you to back up your files and settings with Windows Easy Transfer and then reinstall everything after installing the new.  If an update install does not install work, you need to do a custom.

In addition, a Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade will not work and you get a message from a platform if you have bought a UA and tried to use it with Vista.  Vista upgrade requires a detail, a copy in the Windows 7 box.

  • The windows 10 ISO file will still work to upgrade my computer to Windows 7 after the date limit to install the free version?

    Original title: upgrade Windows 10

I made an iso file for windows 10. I am waiting to upgrade until all the bugs are being developed. My question is: will the iso file of windows 10 still work to upgrade my computer to windows 7 after the date limit to install the free version?

The ISO will work after the date limit, but you can buy Windows 10 after the date limit, if you don't improve and activate it before that date.

Windows 10 is delivered as a service:

    Windows July 10 release - build 10240

    Windows Update 10 November - build 10586 (with many updates depuis.13,.29,. 36)

If you want to take advantage of the free offer, you must do so before July 29, 2016.

If you the newer versions are released before then, you can always download and install when it becomes available.

You could also install it now then download updates via Windows Update as soon as they are available.

    Task of pre-required

When you make significant changes to your computer for example updated operating system, you must always back up. See the links to resources on the backup by clicking the link for each version of Windows you are using: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1

    then

    then

    • Turn off (preferably uninstall) your Antivirus utility before you perform the upgrade.
    • Reboot several times, and then try again.
    • Disable the general USB peripherals (for example - smart card reader).
    • If you are using a SCSI drive, make sure you have the drivers available for your storage on a thumdrive device and it is connected. During the installation of Windows 10, click on the advanced custom Option and use the command load driver to load the driver for the SCSI drive. If this does not work and the installer still fails, consider switching to an IDE based hard drive.
    • Perform a clean boot, restart, and then try again.
    • If you upgrade to the. ISO file, disconnect from the Internet during the installation, if you are connected in LAN (Ethernet) or wireless, disable both, then try to install.
    • If you are updated through Windows Update, when download reaches 100% disconnect from the LAN (Ethernet) Internet or Wi - Fi, then proceed with the installation.
    • If this does not work, try using the. ISO file to upgrade if possible.
    • If you are connected to a domain, go to a local account.
    • If you have an external equipment, attached to the machine, unplug them (example, game controllers, USB sticks, external hard drive, printers, peripherals not essential).
