Confusion over versions Flash Player installed (8.1 Win, Opera, IE, FF, Chrome etc.)

Latest browser Opera nagging guard update me Flash player (Note: real page, install flash not fake!)

The 'about' page at http://www.Adobe.com/UK/software/Flash/about/ tells me that 18.0.0.203 is the most recent.

In Opera and Firefox it I have a newer version installed that is actually installed.

You have installed 18,0,0,205 version

In Chrome and IE, he says:

You have version 18,0,0,194 installed

What's weird here, it's that it's Opera and Chrome that share the same rendering engine, and IE and Firefox are doing their own thing.

And I thought that Chrome has provided its own Flash Player, and if Opera is using the version of the Flash Player system, shouldn't it be the same as IE?

Confused. And no, I have certainly not any malware or virus, and Yes, my system/browsers are all up to date.

Hi digitaltoast2,

I can understand your frustration and confusion.

  • Google integrates the plugin PPAPI in Chrome and all updates are distributed by Google as a component or an update of Chrome update.

    • Google is to denigrate the NPAPI plugin and have it turned off by default, although you can always activate manually, at least until Google completely disagree with support NPAPI in September.  See https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/6213033?hl=en for more information on activation manually the NPAPI plugin
    • Google has recently so, same as if you manually install the PPAPI plugin, it doesn't show in the list of plugins in Chrome disabled version no embedded Flash player in Chrome.
  • Firefox uses the NPAPI plugin
  • Opera can use a plugin NPAPI or PPAPI, however, it has been my experience that if you install the NPAPI plugin opera (not Flash Player) will post a notice of the latest version of Flash Player is not installed, and invite you to install Flash Player, which will install the PPAPI plugin. If you have installed NPAPI plugin, it might by why Opera is you inviting them to install (again).
  • Internet Explorer: From Windows 8, Microsoft integrates Flash Player in Internet Explorer and all updates are distributed by Microsoft via Windows updates.
    • If a Flash Player update to Internet Explorer does not appear when you run Windows updates, you can check the Microsoft security advisories and see if it is in the list.  If so, follow the link to the specific KB page where there will be a link to download the update of IE.

The latest versions for all platforms and browsers listed at the http://www.adobe.com/uk/software/flash/about/.

18.0.0.205 is the latest beta version, released earlier this week.  If that version is installed on your system, it indicates that you are in the channel of beta, as opposed to the output string. To return to the output channel, download latest beta displayed at the bottom of the page http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer.html uninstaller.  Then go to get.adobe.com/flashplayer with Firefox and Opera to download and install the latest version of Flash Player for these versions.

Hope this helps to clarify the confusion.

    1. How can I find the version of Adobe Flash Player installed on my Mac?  I'm on OS 10.11.5 and Safari 9.1.1.
    2. How can I determine if I need to update Adobe Flash Player

There are several different methods to check which version is installed, two of them are:

    Option 1:

    • Go to System Preferences > Flash Player > Updates tab.  There are 2 variants of Flash Player on Mac, NPAPI for Safari and Firefox and PPAPI for opera and Chrome browsers, and both appear in the tab "Updates".
    • If Flash Player is installed the version installed is listed here.  If there is a version that is listed, click the check now button and Flash Player will check for an update.  If an update is available, a notification dialog box appears.
    • If there is not a version listed, Flash Player is not installed.  Click Install now to start the browser to the download page.  Download and install Flash Player.

    Option 2:

    • Launch the browser and go to https://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about.

      • If Flash Player is not installed, a "plugin missing" message appears when the Flash content should display.

        • Click on the "plugin missing" text and a window placard showing Flash Player is required poster.
        • Click more info to be directly to the download page to download and install Flash Player
      • If a previous version of Flash Player is detected and blocked by Safari, click on the "Outdated Flash" text and displays a windows Flash is obsolete screens.  Click on download Flash... button to be redirected to the download page to download and install the latest version.

  • Adobe Flash Player installed.  Does not seem to be recognized by IE9.  Incorrect display of browser?

    Good evening everyone,

This Flash issue drive gives me fits, so I hope that one of you may have experienced this before. Websites visited on this Tablet does not recognize Adobe Flash Player. I have installed Adobe Flash Player version 11.5.502.135 for Internet Explorer. When I go to the following link, http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html , I get the following information:

"Flash player is running on your system." The lil' ball rotates backwards.

    Version of flash player: 11.5.502.135

    OS: Windows 7 (32-bit)

    Browser: Opera

Well, I use Internet Explorer 9. What gives? I tried to uninstall and reinstall Flash player. No luck. ActiveX filtering is disabled. The Shockwave Flash Object add-on is activated. I ran a few antivirus updates and find a bunch of signatures, but I removed immediately. (Malwarebytes, Spybot S & D)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I'm about to nuke the hard drive and start over.

    Thank you in advance.

    Good afternoon Sunil.

Thanks for the reply.  Sorry if I wasn't clear on my previous post.  That's right, that the page incorrectly detect the browser like Opera. I was with IE9.  It was very strange.

I corrected it performed a Windows system restore from the previous month.

    Take care.

  • Possible malware on Mac - is Adobe Flash Player install Manager application legitimate?

I have a macbook pro and I am running 10.10 OS. My browser is Safari 9.1.

Flash player NPAPI plugin version 21.0.0.242 is installed.

Flash PPAPI plugin player - is not installed.

Protection service 5/7/16-a identity to which I am subscribed sent a message saying that my Adobe password has been hacked. I changed the password.

05/15/16, 1 AM-while you browse using Safari a popup appears saying that it needed to update my flash player. (Stupidly), I clicked on "OK".  The window asked if I wanted to install the MacGuard, MacSecurity and another application. I clicked on 'no' to each, then "continue." He then asked my administrator password to install Flash Player. Well I type the password, and I closed the window we'd send her to install some files which warned me that something was wrong. At the end of the installation has changed my Yahoo homepage. I ran Malwarebytes. Malewarebytes identified some suspicious files which I deleted. Then I restarted my computer.

I just noticed a file in my Utilities folder called Adobe Flash Player install Manager. It was created on 09/05/2016 and changed 12/05/2016. I don't remember installing this application. Also, I have "notify me to install updates" and I don't remember notification.  Is Adobe Flash Player install handle (located in the folder Utilities-see below) an application legitimate or should I delete it? When I impulsively tried to remove a few minutes ago, asked me my admin password. Before we continue I hope get some forum members advice. It belongs in the utility folder or do I have to remove it using my Admin password?

    Utilities folder image.jpg

Thanks a lot for any assistance.

    Hello

Unfortunately, it does not appear you have received a notification of update of Flash Player false as MacGuard MacSecurity not the third-party products available for installation of Flash Player and the official Flash Player installer modifies not the browser's default homepage or the favorite search engine.

The official Flash Player installer has an application called Adobe Flash Player install by in the utilities directory, however, at this stage, it is difficult, at best, to know if this file was created with the Flash Player installer legitimate or not.

I have recommended to perform a clean uninstall.  See the FAQ How to perform a "clean installation" of Flash Player in Mac OS X for orientation.

  • Flash player installed, active and still not found?

    Hello

I have the latest version of flash player installed succsessfully. Tests on the support sites also say: it is installed.

The samsung monitor software CD I want to install tells me later, adobe flash player is not installed.

Indeed, I can not find anywhere, under programs or under the x 86 programs.

And again: display all programs under the control of system to uninstall it: here, there, but I can't without uninstalling.

    Thanks to clear this mystery.

    Andreas

    Hello

Flash Player is stored in the following location:

    • 32-bit: C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
    • 64-bit: C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash AND C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash

For Windows, there are 3 types of different players: control ActiveX for IE, NPAPI to firefox and other NPAPI and PPAPI for the browsers Chrome and Chrome browsers.  I'm not familiar with the software you're trying to install, however, most applications use the ActiveX control.  Note that if your operating system Windows 8 and especially Microsoft integrates Flash Player ActiveX Control in the browser and on the other there to install the Flash Player ActiveX Control on these operating systems.

  • Flash Player install freezes @ 99% repeated - 17002 17173. com MB. Solution?

Flash Player install freezes @ 99% repeated - 17002 17173. com MB. Solution?

Yes, Ive tried to download directly from the link to the Adobe Site for the Flash Player.

Still does not completely settle. Very frustrating.

I also tried to uninstall, reboot and do a fresh install. No progress.

OpSYs: Windows 7 - latest version updated automatically.

I think that it's been resolved. For some reason, the merger demanded that Internet Explorer be recognized as the default browser. Once this is done, Flash has finally complete its installation.  Thank you to be ready to help... sometimes we just get lucky.

  • Flash Player install hangs at 95%, 10.9 MacOSX (Mavericks)

I followed all the instructions for her completely uninstall Flash Player. I followed instructions on a 'Clean' reinstall FP. I tried to install 10 FP for Mac instead of PS 11. I created a new user account and tried installing FP. all attempts to have the same result - Flash Player reaches 95% and crashes then just forever.

I should mention that this issue arose after a clean installed 10.9 MacOS on a new hard drive with the old data user migrated to old hard drive according to best practices, etc. Is there a Setup log that I can send to any clues as to what is causing failure to install?

I redid all the uninstall/clean reinstall procedure, including spotlight search for almost any file including 'flash' 'player' in the title, deleted everything, rebooted, checked again that all caches, plugins, managers, etc., which had nothing to do with Flash Player have been deleted... once again mounted the following file:

    install_flash_player_11_osx.dmg

    who came from:

    http://fpdownload.Macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/licensing/Mac install_flash_player_11_osx.dmg

and I tried the new installation - same result - crashes at 95%.  I was about to 'hang up' myself, I remembered that some people had had the chance check out the file "Adobe Flash Player.pkg" Installer and just this program installation. I realized that I had tried this before with the Flash Player install downloaded by going to adobe.com-->--> Flash Player downloads, etc., but never found this .pkg file downloaded and mounted .dmg. However, it occurred to me that I had not watched the file in the stand-alone installation program mentioned above. Of course, it's there, I ran - Flash Player installed in a blink of eye, and probably at least 5-6 hours to tackle this problem, I have had success.

    Here's what I did:

1 launched the referenced above and downloaded .dmg file

    2. the mounted volume contains the folder 'Install Adobe Flash Player.app'. I did click right on the application and choose "Show Package content"

    3. I went to: contents-> resources and found the file "Adobe Flash Player.pkg.

    4. I hold the option key pressed and drag to create a copy on my desk.

    5. I double-clicked on the file above on my desk and then just follow the guests to install Flash Player.

It seems to me that it is an Adobe problem they need to fix.

  • Cannot get Flash Player installed 10.2.153

Windows XP SP 3 32 bit I have read several different threads and have very similar problems getting Flash Player installed. I tried the two removal of the program to add / remove programs and uninstall program Adobe. I rebooted between uninstalls and installs and install again after. I tried to install IE 8 and FireFox doesn't seem to work. I run the Flash/subject and he did not recognize that Flash Player is installed. I checked the "Kill-bit" and it is not set. I've updated the registry, remove entries of Flash Player in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macormedia\FlashPlayer - FlashPlayerActiveX and FlashPlayerPlugin after uninstalling Flash Player and also remove the Flash folder in C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed and then reboot and retry the installation of Flash Player, nothing helps. It's very frustrating, especially when this user really needs to use Flash Player as part of his work. Please help.

Thanks again. The Shockwave Flash Object is not installed and it seems that it is acknowledged that exact key, then the Kill-bit is set.

The plugin for FF is correct.

Go back to the thread of Kill bits and look in the Post #4. Below are the directions. The file you want to extract this zip file is the one you want to SAVE on your desktop. Then close all the browser windows, disable all antivirus and run this file.

When that finished, Reboot (restart) your computer and re - activate your AV.

Who should take care of it. Then, go to the website of test with IE and see if you can see the animation of the Flash Player logo.

    Thank you
