Possible malware on Mac - is Adobe Flash Player install Manager application legitimate?

I have a macbook pro and I am running 10.10 OS. My browser is Safari 9.1.

Flash player NPAPI plugin version 21.0.0.242 is installed.

Flash PPAPI plugin player - is not installed.

Protection service 5/7/16-a identity to which I am subscribed sent a message saying that my Adobe password has been hacked. I changed the password.

05/15/16, 1 AM-while you browse using Safari a popup appears saying that it needed to update my flash player. (Stupidly), I clicked on "OK".  The window asked if I wanted to install the MacGuard, MacSecurity and another application. I clicked on 'no' to each, then "continue." He then asked my administrator password to install Flash Player. Well I type the password, and I closed the window we'd send her to install some files which warned me that something was wrong. At the end of the installation has changed my Yahoo homepage. I ran Malwarebytes. Malewarebytes identified some suspicious files which I deleted. Then I restarted my computer.

I just noticed a file in my Utilities folder called Adobe Flash Player install Manager. It was created on 09/05/2016 and changed 12/05/2016. I don't remember installing this application. Also, I have "notify me to install updates" and I don't remember notification.  Is Adobe Flash Player install handle (located in the folder Utilities-see below) an application legitimate or should I delete it? When I impulsively tried to remove a few minutes ago, asked me my admin password. Before we continue I hope get some forum members advice. It belongs in the utility folder or do I have to remove it using my Admin password?

Thanks a lot for any assistance.

Hello

Unfortunately, it does not appear you have received a notification of update of Flash Player false as MacGuard MacSecurity not the third-party products available for installation of Flash Player and the official Flash Player installer modifies not the browser's default homepage or the favorite search engine.

The official Flash Player installer has an application called Adobe Flash Player install by in the utilities directory, however, at this stage, it is difficult, at best, to know if this file was created with the Flash Player installer legitimate or not.

I have recommended to perform a clean uninstall.  See the FAQ How to perform a "clean installation" of Flash Player in Mac OS X for orientation.

    2. How can I determine if I need to update Adobe Flash Player

There are several different methods to check which version is installed, two of them are:

    Option 1:

    • Go to System Preferences > Flash Player > Updates tab.  There are 2 variants of Flash Player on Mac, NPAPI for Safari and Firefox and PPAPI for opera and Chrome browsers, and both appear in the tab "Updates".
    • If Flash Player is installed the version installed is listed here.  If there is a version that is listed, click the check now button and Flash Player will check for an update.  If an update is available, a notification dialog box appears.
    • If there is not a version listed, Flash Player is not installed.  Click Install now to start the browser to the download page.  Download and install Flash Player.

    Option 2:

    • Launch the browser and go to https://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about.

The solution is to download the installer out of line on this page http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html. Download Installer "DMG (for system administrators)" and install it. After installing restart Safari for example and check of http://www.adobe.com/uk/software/flash/about/ that you have installed.

This password is presented by your operating system and is designed to prevent you from accidentally installing the software.

If it comes to your personal computer and you don't need a password to connect to the computer when it first starts, you can probably leave the password blank and click OK to go to this prompt.  If it comes to your personal computer and your normal password does not work, make sure that CAPS LOCK SHIFT is off, and then type the password carefully.

If this is your work machine and he asks an administrator password, well, you will need to have a conversation with your computer friendly.

  • Adobe Flash Player 11 Mobile application

    Greetings,

Notify me as soon as you have the Adobe Flash Player 11 for the HTC EVO 4 G LTE. I tried to download Adobe Flash Player on the HTC EVO 4 G LTE myself, but without success. I got this error message to game Google store instead:

Your device is not Compatible with this Version.

Answer as soon as you get this message.

    End of message.

There is no more Flash Player for Android and there will be another. Android is no longer compatible with Flash Player. Flash content playback is very non-rational processor and it drains your battery, also shorten the life of it. Android (Google) recommended "The Dolphin" or "Puffin" as your browser if you need to display Flash content with a motive under Android. They are both free in the GooglePlay store.

These browsers use the rendering of the 'server-side' to reduce the load on the device.

  • Adobe Flash Player installed.  Does not seem to be recognized by IE9.  Incorrect display of browser?

    Good evening everyone,

This Flash issue drive gives me fits, so I hope that one of you may have experienced this before. Websites visited on this Tablet does not recognize Adobe Flash Player. I have installed Adobe Flash Player version 11.5.502.135 for Internet Explorer. When I go to the following link, http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html , I get the following information:

"Flash player is running on your system." The lil' ball rotates backwards.

    Version of flash player: 11.5.502.135

    OS: Windows 7 (32-bit)

    Browser: Opera

Well, I use Internet Explorer 9. What gives? I tried to uninstall and reinstall Flash player. No luck. ActiveX filtering is disabled. The Shockwave Flash Object add-on is activated. I ran a few antivirus updates and find a bunch of signatures, but I removed immediately. (Malwarebytes, Spybot S & D)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I'm about to nuke the hard drive and start over.

    Thank you in advance.

    Good afternoon Sunil.

Thanks for the reply.  Sorry if I wasn't clear on my previous post.  That's right, that the page incorrectly detect the browser like Opera. I was with IE9.  It was very strange.

I corrected it performed a Windows system restore from the previous month.

    Take care.

  • Adobe Flash Player installed, but the content does not work

Adobe Flash Player works once I install it, but then evenually he stops working. I tried many methods of support, including downloading the tool from Microsoft to fix permission errors. I use Windows Vista Home Premium and the latest version of Adobe Flash Player.

Somewhere, I noticed that there is an old thread like this with someone who has the same problem. I knew someone who responded showed a screenshot of what the permissions for the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT should look like. Interestingly, they don't seem to match.

  • Suspected malware in the form of Adobe Flash Player install crib

I believe that I have installed a few malware disguised as an update of Adobe Flash.

I may have made on July 11, 2015, in response to a pop - up in Firefox 39.0.

My computer shows symptoms of malware. Looking into the problem, I discovered on the 'Flash' malware on the Apple support page https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3122.

You are invited by reading that, I searched my system and found a file I think. When I search my Applications folder by using the term "flash," I see an instance of AdobeFlashPlayerInstallManager.app version 18.0.0.209, copyright 2008. It is installed in the Utilities folder. It was created on my Mac on July 11 and amended July 14, which would be consistent with the time period where I now remembers seeing the context menu of browser who said that I was using an outdated copy of Flash.

Now, I'm trying move the suspect Flash application file to the trash. When I right click and select move to trash, I get a Finder window asking my computer password. Should I do this? If this is not the case, how to remove this suspicious file?

Please let know us also on all the other steps recommended recovery.

I learned the lesson is not to update software through pop-up windows in the browser.

Attach a screenshot of the window read the information of the suspect file.

    Thank you

    Flash Install Manager Suspicious.jpg.jpg

    Hello

Flash Player creates the AdobeFlashPlayerInstallManager.app in/Applications/Utilities /.  You can check if it is a legitimate "Adobe" file by checking the signature on it.  To do this, follow these steps:

    • Start Terminal.app From/Applications/Utilities
    • At the prompt, type: codesign vdv - Applications/Utilities/Adobe\ Flash\ Flash Install\ by
      • You can type codesign - vdv and then drag the AdobeFlashPlayerInstallManager.app file in the Terminal window
    • The results should have ' authority = Developer ID of Application: Adobe Systems, Inc.

The reason why you're being invited, by the operating system, for the password is that the directory of the application has elevated permissions and to remove the file from her (or install) requires the admin password to make changes to the protected file system directories.

Adobe has also released and updated Tuesday, July 14.  If you may have gotten a notification pop up as a result.  However, without a screenshot of the popup notification, I can't verify it was that, or something else.

If you want, I can take a look at your FlashPlayerInstallManager.log file and see if there was an update around the time that this has happened. Please read the FAQ where can I find the Flash Player on Macintosh Setup log? for the location of the log file.  This FAQ contains several different log files, just look for FlashPlayerInstallManager.log and provide a file using the specified item was not found. instructions.

Also, if you have not yet done so, you can run a scan for viruses/malware/adware/etc.

  • Adobe Flash Player: Install window is empty.

adobe screen shot.jpgHello, I tried to update my current version 15.0.0.162? to the latest version but everytime I run the installer window appears empty, the browser is still open or not. • Adobe Flash Player install freeze.

Perhaps my problem is a little different, and then a few more.  I have Windows 7/64 bit.  I also have Adobe Reader, Acrobat, and installed PSE9.  I have updated flash player several times with the usual adobe pop-up window.  Currently I have ver 10.3.183.5.  Yesterday, I received the usual pop window indicating a more recent version (10.3.183.10 I guess).  When I clicked on 'Install now' he hung up with the following window:

    pic.jpg

After waiting, I clicked on the 'X' and received an error message.  My current version 10.3.183.5 still works very well, but no update has occurred.  The only entrance to journal setup including the current date is:

    = O = M/10.3.183.5-2011-09-28 + 15-05 - 16.627 =.

    0000 [I] 00000010 "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil10v_ActiveX.exe" - update activex

    = X = M/10.3.183.5-2011-09-28 + 15-15 - 58.760 =.

I don't know what is the best way to proceed.  If you have a link to a downloadable installer, I can do but if so, here are a few questions:

    (1) should I just run the installer or should I 1st uninstall 10.3.183.5 via "uninstall programs"?

    (2) should I turn off my first (MSE) antivirus?

    (3) should I disable the first windows firewall?

    (4) should I run the installer for a clean boot?

    Help will be appreciated.

I recommend trying the following steps:

    1. download uninstaller stand alone

    2. close all browser windows

    3. launch the uninstaller

    4 restart your computer

5 remove the following folder, depending on your operating system:

    • 32-bit Windows - c:\Windows\system32\macromed
    • Windows 64-bit - c:\windows\syswow64\macromed

    6. download and install Flash Player located here:
