Connect a host to ESX 4.1 by vSphere 4.0 Server

Hello

is it possible to connect with the Server Version 4.0 vSphere to a 4.1 ESX host and it is also easy to manage.
The host is running 4.0 update 3 and is connected with the vSphere server.
I don't want to move the server vSphere to 4.1 because she need x 64.

I want to improve the host with esxupdate.

Thanks for the help.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

is it possible to connect with the Server Version 4.0 vSphere to a 4.1 ESX host and it is also easy to manage.

No, it is documented in KB 1024381.

You can still run vCenter 4.1 in 64-bit guest VM.  This is a supported configuration.

Good luck!

  • VirtualCenter (2.5-4 ESXi): Could not connect to host "unable to communicate with the specified host.

Reading this article (http://communities.vmware.com/thread/173890), I'm having a similar problem with VCentre 2.5 connection to ESXi 4 guests, but this article uses commands that don't work with my version of ESX (e.g. rpm - qa | grep vpxa, produced "not found RPM). In addition, article following (http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1003714) does not the commands I should use. Any ideas what command can I use it please?

Baseliner - you must upgrade VC first and foremost, when you run the upgrade to ESX 4.

vSphere will support older ESX host, but 2.5 does not support ESX 4.0.

Take a look at the upgrade guide:

    http://www.VMware.com/PDF/vSphere4/R40/vsp_40_upgrade_guide.PDF

    Good luck.

  • Credentials do not work when connecting to hosts unique

    Greetings,

I can't connect to my vSphere vCenter server and connect to all my ESX hosts with all the problems.

However, if I try to connect to a single host I get "connection failed due to a bad user name or password".

Can someone tell me please in the direction of what I need to do to allow me to connect through these two methods?

If you ask why I'm doing it, I'm just trying to preconfigure my computer so that I can manage my domain if vCenter name fails.

    So of course, Yes.

When you add a host to Vcenter, you must give Vcenter as well local host credentials.

  • Cann't open web access, ssh connection between host and bridged the VM in network mode

I have a VMware workstartion 7.0 is installed on a machine XP 64 (192.168.2.44). I have the following virtual machines.

    1 ESX 4.0 (192.168.2.42)

    2 ESX 3.5 (192.168.2.38)

    3. windows server 2003 with vCenter installed. (192.168.2.100)

    4. Windows server 2003 with the roles of DNS and DC. (192.168.2.101)

I am trying to connect to vCenter or ESX VM of the XP hosting web interface. However I can't get through. but I can ping and I can also telnet to ports 443, 80. Even I can't ssh connection. When I use putty, it is actually connected but no response from the ssh server. Looks like the network connection is there, somehow the server process responds simply not properly once the connection is established.

BTW, all of them use bridged network, they all 192.168.2.x IPs. I can connect to vCenter, ESX web interface from another computer without problem.

Just wonder if anyone else has experienced this before. I have tried to search the forum, did not find a similar question.

    Thank you!

Your host, try to disable (temporarily) a "discharge" for the NIC settings.

    http://KB.VMware.com/kb/1015940

If this solves the problem, other threads on this issue have mentioned that a fix for this will be included in the next version of the 'point' of Workstation 7 (as 7.1, etc).

  • Deployment models for the new cluster - "A" failed to Connect to Host

    Hi all

I reorganized my ESX 3.5 2 130756 machines in a new cluster (they were already members of another cluster & lt; - this can be an important factor here).  When I try to deploy new virtual machines from templates to the new cluster, almost immediately, the task fails with the error "failed to Connect to Host."  Here's what I did on troubleshooting:

-I confirm that nothing has changed on the console host IP and DNS service on the ESX host configuration

-restart services on the ESX host management - tried again, failed.

-removed and added hosts in cluster - tried again once, didn't

-disabled DRS on cluster - tried again, failed.

-confirmed I can deploy templates to other clusters

-confirmed I can deploy a new virtual machine custom again cluster manually

-restart the ESX and vCenter server hosts

-removed ESX cluster hosts and destroys Cluster and file

-recreated cluster and added guests, same error

I think I've tried all the basics, but please let me know if you think something else to try.  In the VirtualCenter newspapers, there are the following entries whenever the task fails:

Unexpected exception received during the NfcCopy

(SERVER_Template) (vim.fault.HostConnectFault) unexpected exception during clone. Abandonment.

It seems that the model does not really know where he lives.  I am trying to convert a virtual machine model and try to run a migration on it to a host.

Otherwise, you may need to remove the inventory model and look for the data store that it is and resave.

I'm hosted network using the cmd prompt, but,.
its worked for me only 2 times, to connect with the my mobile phone bill galaxy, now it can not connect to hosted net work, phone show me that "obtain ip addresses and remains the same,
Another thing is under tension after my pc, I have to once again work net hosted early,
Please help me to solve these problems, iam looking forward for your answer

    Hello

Looks like the IP address defined on the computer is incorrect.

Please check the IP address that is defined for the wireless network adapter.

1 type command prompt in the Start menu and press to enter.

    2. in the command prompt, type ipconfig/all and press ENTER.

    3. This will show the IP address that is on the ethernet cards. (Cable and wireless)

    4. If you see the address from 169.xxx.xxx.xxx, then you won't be able to connect to the Internet or devices. In this case, you must manually set a static IP address for the wireless network adapter.

    5. type the following commands at the command prompt to release and renew the IP address.

    ipconfig/release

    ipdonfig / renew

    6. check if the computer is detected by the phone in wireless networks.

If the problem persists, then set an IP address manually for wireless network.

    1. press the Windows key and press R to open the prompt to run .

2 type ncpa.cpl and press ENTER.

    3. right click on the wireless network and click on Properties.

    4. Select IP4 (IP version 4) , and click Properties.

    5. place a checkbox "use the following IP address".

    6. set an IP address manually. For example: 192.168.1.1 and subnet 255.255.255.0

    7. Press ok and close the windows.

    8. check if the phone is able to view the computer via Wi - Fi connection.

As hosted network is a temporary wireless connection, you may have to re-create after each reboot.

Hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let us know.

  • Migrate the host ESX to vSphere 4.0 Server 4.1

    Hi all

I have 2 vSphere environments. A server vSphere 4.0, and 3 ESX 4.0 host. Another with vSphere 4.1 server with 3 hosts ESXi 4.1. I want to migrate ESX 4.0 mailboxes to the new server for vSphere 4.1. Assuming that I have licenses installed locally on the boxes, and I squared away vSphere licensing, what would be the best way to migrate the host?

I would simply ' right click-> delete ', then 'right click-> add a host' on the Server 4.1?

    Thanks in advance.

the best way to do so is in vCenter 1, right-click and disconnect the host and then delete host.  In vCenter2, "add host".  This will move the hosts and their guests to the new instance without interruption.

  • Unable to connect the host server alone on the bridge or a NAT server network

I have configuered 5 comments OS (windows server 2003) on Vmware workstation (on a single host). Among them three servers are on the network host and two others respectively is on the bridge network and NAT. All the guest OS is on a local network (i.e. team).

I can connect on the bridge or a NAT server to the internet. But I can't ping on the server (on the bridge or NAT) servers (on the single host network). IP address assigned to the host only network is the subnet of class A. And on the bridge or a NAT server is dynamically assigned by the DHCP service.

    Can someone help me?

whether you are able to connect all the virtual machines, you have 2 options:

-connect all your virtual machines on the host network

-If you really need to keep your 2 VMs on the bridge and NAT, you must assign the 2 network cards to those virtual machines. One of the cards connected in Bridged/NAT and the other network card NETWORK connected to host only.

  • To connect to a host of ESXi (free) in a vSphere 5.0 infrastructure

I need to migrate virtual machines (including existing snapshots) to a stand-alone host ESXi 3.5 (free) to a member of host ESXi 5.0 5.0 vSphere infrastructure.

VMware Converter does not work for me because it does not migrate the shots, nor can I use the sulition backup that I currently use.

I can't use OVF for the same reason.

A possible solution coud be temporarily add the old ESXi host vSphere 5.0 for the time needed to migrate the computer virtual infrastructure: is it possible?

Another solution could be downloading files containing the virtual machines from the VMFS data store managed by the former host of ESXi 3.5 in a Windows folder and download for the data managed by the ESXi 5.0 host store, but I strongly suspect that it does not.

    Is there an alternative?

    Concerning

    Marius

I think that the copy will be the way to go in this case. You can take a look at of Veeam FastSCP for this work.

After copying the files, you should be able to add the virtual machine to inventory (right-click the file .vmx in browser data store) and turn on.

  • ESX 3.5 migrate vcenter to another server

How to migrate from ESX 3.5 vcenter migrate to another server? I need to drop the current server vcenter.

What is the best way to migrate?

Also, how can I move the license server?

    Thank you

Be physical vmotion wouldn't work - then you options:

    (1) vCenter maintaining physical - to maintain the existing environment, you will need to copy the existing database on the new server vCenter - once it is install a new copy of vCenter on the new machine set up the oDBC connector to point to the version copied from the database. If you are not concerned to maintain the existing environment, you can simply install a fresh instance of vcenter and remove the old environment ESX hosts and add them to the new vcenter.

Yu could also invest in a product like PlateSpin migrate and migration of P2P.

    (2) travel vCenter for a VM - use Standaloone of VMware P2V VM vCenter Converter.

Do you have firewall between vcenter and DR ESXi may to check you if the required firewall port is open between ESXi and VC/DNS servers, in order to avoid the frequent disconnection of esxi to VC.

port to open between vc and esxi

  • Error connection rebuilt host on the San

We had to reinstall ESX 4.0 on one of our guests. I have configured the iscsi connections to be the same as before ip addresses. The SAN has the same ip for my rebuilt host addresses. When I try to add the storage to the rebuilt host he asks me if I want to keep the existing signature, new signature or re format. I tried to select keep existing and also new signature. I use our store iso in order to test this process out. the rebuilt f\hosts will not add the lun because he says he has alreay of active connections. I removed the host access right and I can add the iso lun on the host rebuilt. When I try and add the iso to the host lun well it won't let me. It wants to format the volume.  Don't know what the deal is.

ESX is recognizing your LUN as a snapshot LUN and asking you to keep or change the signature to match with the discovery.  It is probably your id LUN change somehow, or being found out differently.  On the host that is not recognizing the LUN, go to your esx console and run 'esxcfg-volume-l '.

If that comes back with the correct LUN, you should be able to run 'esxcfg-volume - M ' to ride again.
