Connecting to a remote database (slowed down) with the password file authentication

Hi all

I was wondering if it is possible to connect to a remote database is stopped (idle instance) as user sys with sysdba privileges? It is said in the Oracle book - one to page 210 in the section - operating system and the file password authentication:

Connection with authentication by password file or operating system is always possible, any State of the instance and the database are in and it is necessary to issue commands to START or STOP.

Above indicates that it is possible, but I can't do it.

I managed to connect to the remote database that was in mode nomount (see below for more details).

When I first tried to connect to a remote database (idle instance) using the password file authentication, it gave due to error:
sqlplus sys@ORCL as sysdba
SQL * more: Production of the version 11.2.0.3.0 Fri dec 21 13:59:28 2012

Enter the password:
ERROR:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener is not currently of service requested in connect
descriptor of

Enter the user name:

After the start of the database in nomount mode I was getting following error:
sqlplus sys@ORCL as sysdba
SQL * more: Production of the version 11.2.0.3.0 Fri dec 21 13:48:36 2012

Copyright (c) 1982, 2011, Oracle. All rights reserved.

Enter the password:
ERROR:
ORA-12528: TNS:listener: all appropriate instances are blocking new connections

Enter the user name:

Then I added the clause (UR = A) my listener.ora file and after that it work and I was able to connect:
sqlplus sys@ORCL as sysdba
SQL * more: Production of the version 11.2.0.3.0 Fri dec 21 14:04:49 2012

Enter the password:

I have all the entries of necessairly in tnsnames.ora on my local host.

Also, I have no problems when connecting as user sys with sysdba when the DB is open, but can't get it working on an idle instance.

I know I can use OS authentication but want to know if there is a mistake in the book or I'm doing something wrong.

Kind regards
Dawid

You can, but you need to statically register the database with the listener.

I have the software on my machine (written in-house by a company I work for) to connect to a remote database from home. I have connected several times without problem, but recently I immediately get an error message as follows: "Access violation at address...". ' followed by the hexadecimal address number, when I click on the "connect" button after entering the login information. Hello @JohannNewma,

Welcome to the HP support community! I read your post and wanted to tender hand can help you!

I understand that you notice a decrease in speed wireless on the x 360-15-w100nt laptop computer ENVY when running off the battery voltage.

You can check and adjust the power options on the system as it is probably trying to save battery power by reducing wireless performance.

If you're still having problems, you can follow the steps described in this document to troubleshoot the network settings and internet wireless.

  • A general error occurred: could not connect with the password of administrator of vim cannot configure VIM account on the host

    Community salvation.

Story: I was called to look at the configuration of vSphere for a customer. When I started looking, I noticed several problems in the environment of the person who has put in place initially. I've been noting but have done nothing to fix these up to the...

A question that I've seen is that the server vSphere does not apper communicate properly on ESX 3.5 servers. The error message is similar to a post on this forum ( http://communities.vmware.com/message/1450789?tstart=0) however the same method of solution did not work.

Currently I have two ESX hosts connected to a console vSphere. The Console displays the disconnected hosts and the error points to the problems with the VPXUSER account. I found

I searched and found several articles with similar questions, so I chose a course of action

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1007132

    http://communities.VMware.com/message/1168241

As a note - vSphere client connections toESX welcomes also directly works very well - don't show no problems and everything seems fine.

So - my first actions were to disconnect and reconnect one of the hosts.  The operation failed with the error "a general error has occurred: unable to connect with the password of administrator of vim cannot configure VIM account on the host. After that, I followed the elimination of the VPXUSER process, restarted the agents and you reconnect the server for vSphere - to the same result. I then deleted the ESX host, removed the VPXUSER, restarted the agents and added that the host ESX back once again - but no change - the same exact error message. I don't see the VPXUSER ID are re-created by this process - so I guess that ESX and vSphere should know the ID and the password.

Nothing shows up in the var for this - but one of the articles above explains that as a result of the use of the PAM modules.

Just for fun, I also tried using the ROOT password and reallowing ROOT to connect via SSH - but I got the same failures. I also tried lifting the VPXUSER ID privleges but - same questions.

If - goes here - any ideas? I can give other details or screen caputres

  • Unable to connect to the database instance: ORA-28001: the password has expired

    Hi all

    I'm on oracle 11g grid.

I get unable to connect to the database instance: ORA-28001: the password has expired (ERROR of DBD: OCISessionBegin) error.

I checked and found that my user dbsnmp expired password. I found the page on the grid control to change the password of user dbsnmp.

but I want to know. If I changed dbsnmp password using the grid control. Is there any other task I have to do after the change of user dbsnmp password.

    Please let me know.

    Thank you

    Hi PK,.

If GC can reuse the monitored GENERAL to connect to the database account I can't think of anything you should do.
The database, what has happened is an 11g database? If so the security policy has been changed in this version, which means that in half a year you will still have a locked account of DBSNMP.

If your company security policy allows, you can avoid this by changing the password_life_time to an unlimited number of default profile:
    change the default profile limit password_life_time unlimited;

  • When updating the password file database

In our infrastructure, we have several databases (all 11 GR 2 on Linux) who have access to the same password file.

If the password of a user stored in the password file is changed in a database, this user password is changed in all databases that use this password file.

If I query the view of sys.user$, I can see when a user has changed, but only for this database and need to check each database to see if the password has been changed for this database. Is it possible to see which update this file to shared password without connecting to each individual database database?

    Thank you!

    Hi Garrett.

You have active audit? Also, if you have defined AUDIT_SYS_OPERATIONS to true, you should have some information placed in the $ aud. As Joel Suggested, check the timestamp of the change in the password file.

I think that if you enabled audit_sys_operations, you would also have records written to audit trail operating systems $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/audit.

On another note, according to the literature and my test, if the REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE = SHARED, then you could not change the password for the SYS or other users with SYSDBA privilege.

    Take a look on:

  • Problems with the audit files!

    Hi friends,

We are facing a problem with the audit files we have a runnning on oracle 10g server and being an Institute of teaching many ppl to connect to the server and too much work with SQL and PL/SQL. We have disabled the option to audit the database, but the audit files grow enormous in size. May I know what can be the problem and how to fix that there could be something that we would have missed.

There is no setting of "verification". Display the values of

    AUDIT_FILE_DEST, AUDIT_SYS_OPERATIONS, AUDIT_TRAIL.

I don't know 'NULL' as the value for each of these parameters.

  • default role with the password - reality check

I support the database for an application. We went from Oracle10 in Oracle11 9 months. Then recently, we applied the CPU of OCT.

The application administrator says they have a program which has recently stopped working and who worked after the Oracle11 upgrade.

The user of the application has a default role that has a password. Is this possible? A default role with a password. Would this be worked in any version of Oracle?

Default role with the password is even available with Oracle XE. The default roles are enabled without the need for role password in Oracle 10.2:

    10.2 security Guide says:

If you have a role that is protected by a password, you can activate or disable the role by providing the correct password for the role in a statement of the VALUE. However, if the role is rendered a default and active role at the time of the connection, then the user should not enter a password.

11.1 and 11.2 Secuirty Guide says:

If a user is given a role that is protected by a password, you can activate or disable the role by providing the correct password for the role in the ROLE DEFINED declaration.
