constant path block

When I copy and paste a path from the Windows Explorer in teststand as a constant, I should add an extra "-" in front of all the "------" manually.  Is there a faster way?  Thank you!

You can prepend string expressions with the @ symbol in order to avoid the games be interpreted as escape characters. Example:

@ "c:\foo\bar\sub1\sub2\sub3\finally.txt".

  • path of the image file that links do not correctly in the executable file

    I have a jpeg file in a project that I'm building which is not loading when run as an executable file.  The executable seems to be looking in the same directory that the image file was originally instead of the support folder where the image is deployed.  On another machine, the exe will look for the image in the directory, that were found on my machine.  When I drag the image file of the project on the block diagram Explorer, it creates a constant path of file indicates where the file is located on my machine.  This does not seem to update when I build the exe.  The image file is included in the source files.  Any help is appreciated!

    A constant path is... Yes indeed constant! It's not automatically change whenever someone might move the file too, whatever his imagination made her do. He does not maintain a link to the actual file it could use later to detect that the file has been moved elsewhere. In fact Windows has quite such a mechanism.

    So if you want to access an external file to your executable application to first do a correct path when running. My approach is to put in a directory from a VI file that I put in my application. Then in this VI use the way of getting current VI, band name the VI of it and add the location relative to the other file to it.

    If you do something like this:

    The project directory

    Directory of the utility

    My Location.vi

    Data directory

    MyResource.jpg

    in system development, then:

    The application directory

    MyApplication.exe

    Data directory

    MyResource.jpg

    in the application of the construction.

    With this provision, it doesn't matter even if you use the old format of executable LabVIEW 8.x or the new default format since LabVIEW 2009.

    My Location.vi is just a VI that takes a relative path in the entry (in this case "... / directory/MyResource.jpg data" called the "Current path to VI" node, use 'Band path' to remove the name of VI, then build to add this entry path, and this is!.)

  • path & file.exe

    Hi, I'm making a program that call 'photos' and display in labview front but when I have this program file.exe... my construction program isn't calls photos... .i join the program

    How can I make my program exe call 'photo '?

    Hello thaeralhwaiti,

    According to Gerd, the 'current path of VI' primitive returns the path to the current VI.  If the VI is built into an executable file, the path returned will be also inside the executable.  If you placed a marker on the wire or built executable for debugging (http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/8DA679805915DE40862572D5007B2F70 - can be useful when you are trying to identify what has changed in a built exe!) you would see that the path is now /.exe/RFID Read.vi not Read.vi of RFID.

    If you want to get the executable file is in, you must either use a different path for the band to get the executable file is or use the antiderivative of the Application directory instead.

    More information about this behavior with a quick Internet search, this knowledge base is probably what you're looking for:

  • Only accessible path to VI at all levels

    Hello

    I'm developing an application of calibration using about six different writing to csv format and read csv live access to the various log files in the same place. I find a lot of your time to update the path for each Vi when I change the location of the folder. I prefer not to use a control to the string/path since these read/write csv screws are at different levels in the application. Currently, I use a constant path for each VI. and I was wondering if there is a better way to do it. I tried to have control of the string as a global variable. But the channel will refresh not in every access in writing/CSV VI each time I change the path string in the global variable. Please find attached photo. Circles is that I try to keep consistent for all / write CSV access live.

    Thank you

    FLiu

    I'm not entirely sure understand your question.  So I'll make a few comments:

    1. You can use the constant "Default Data Directory" file to specify the folder, regardless of anything else, place of residence of your log files.  Note that this is usually the folder (default) LabVIEW saves your screws if you want a file relative to this folder, you can, of course, build, too.
    2. You can create a subfolder (or filename element) the name of the VI that makes the economy, or of the highest level VI (if you want to the files 'specific programme'.  Call string allows to get the name of the screws (I don't remember if this gives you the .vi thus extension, but you can eliminate that by string works).
    3. When you open a file for writing, you can first see if the file already exists.  If so, you can 'add a digital extension' and try again.  In other words, try to see if "My Output.txt" exists.  If so, look for 'My Output.000.txt'.  If this exists, try "My Output.001.txt".  You'll notice that I use the 3-digit extensions to help with the sort order in a list of directories - if you think that you will have more than 1000 files, you can go to 4 digits (or more)...

    I hope that this suggests ways to simplify your file naming situation.  If I missed your point, please explain...

  • Relative path confusion. !

    Hello

    I don't have the following situation:

    Development approx.:

    c:\x\y\temp.VI<---- my="" top="">

    c:\x\y\ini\conf.ini<---- config="">

    Run time PC:

    c:\Program files\test\temp.exe

    How to set a path relative to my conf.ini file now? With the function of band (twice), it doesn't work and and conf.ini file is not on my PC run time. On the dev Env. There is no problem to find the conf.ini file.

    Why my executable does not work when you use the constant path of the current VI?

  • path to vi the asynchronous call

    I'm trying to implement a splash screen that calls my main VI of asynchronously and displays messages during the charge of the VI.  Everything works fine in the development system, but it is not the case in EXE.  This is my first attempt to call a VI like that so I don't know that I'm missing something simple.

    See the image as an attachment.  The static reference points to a location on my server but I want to run the VI which is "Still included" in my EXE build, not the VI of the server.  The path of the VI comes back here is a combination of the path of the server and the location of generation, which is obviously not correct.

    What is really strange for me, it's that the main.vi is in fact running even if the path is incorrect.  The splash screen displays messages received from the hand, but when it is charged to the configuration settings, it fails because the vi path is c:\program files\tester\main.exe\z\labview\tester and it does not find my INI file.  How can I dynamically load this VI and even power give him my refnum of notification for my splash screen and return to the correct path of VI?  I tried to remove the path below property node and just add a constant path with main.vi as the value.  But it seems to get the path of the strict type reference (I understand is type only).

    I'd be willing to bet that your complete and complex application calls some VI who lives on the C drive, so to avoid any potential ambiguity, it uses the full path in the compiled (by chance) application, but on different drives. Your simple application probably calls subVIs that are only on the Z drive, so there is no possibility of confusion and it uses a shorter common path as a starting point.

  • Question about path locations

    A VI I work on stores a few commands in an .ini file and works a treat. I'll turn the VI in an application and have it accessible on a few PCs by copy the .exe and .ini on the PC or keep it on a USB key.

    What I would ideally like is to have the look of VI for the path in the same folder as the application is stored in. So if I copy the file on a desktop computer or a USB key, it wouldn't matter. What is the best way to do it?

    There is a function in the file IO-> palette of constant path called the Application directory.  When in the development environment, it returns the folder of the project file.  When in an application (exe), it returns the folder of the executable.  Use this function with the path to build to locate your ini file.

  • RTE de LV cannot open the project files that include references .lvlib in dependencies

    I am writing a DLL LabVIEW to inspect the LabVIEW project files, and I noticed that if a project has a .lvlib reference in its dependencies, then the Run-Time Engine is contradictory on whether or not he can find the project file:

    • Project.Open returns error 7 (file not found)

    • Project.GetFileLVVersion is a success

    Here are some excerpts from my code of G and C engaged in this behavior:

       int openStatus = StatusSuccess;
    char * projectVersion = createStringWithLength (VersionStringLength);

    printf ("Analysis %s\n", pathchaine);
    OpenProject (pathchaine & openStatus, projectVersion, VersionStringLength);
    printf (" project written in LabVIEW %s\n", projectVersion);

    If (openStatus is StatusSuccess)
    {
    printf (" Open the project file.") \n") ;
    }
    on the other
    {
    printf("Error: could not find Project file, or file was not a Project file (Error code %i).\n», openStatus);")
    }

    However, when running in the development environment, the two methods are successful.

    Here's another way to trigger this behavior, which shows that LabVIEW occasionally Range the element dependencies:

      1. Open "OpenProject.lvproj" in LabVIEW.

  • Add to the project a new VI and place the constant path of file "Application Directory" his block diagram.

  • Select ""leader "Save All (this project)" and use the default name for the new VI.

  • Type 'c:\xtra\temp\OpenProject.lvproj' OpenProject

  • Notice that there is a mistake once again, as is expected.

  • Remove the "Application Directory" path of file constant

  • Select ""leader "Save All (this project)"

  • Type 'c:\xtra\temp\OpenProject.lvproj' OpenProject

  • Note that the problem has disappeared, as is expected.

  • Add the "Application Directory" path of file constant in the block diagram.

  • Select ""leader "Save All (this project)"

  • Type 'c:\xtra\temp\OpenProject.lvproj' OpenProject

  • Notice there is no problem, which is surprising, because that there should be a mistake because the dependencies item was not tidy.

  • Close the new VI and pull out of the project.

  • Select ""leader "Save All (this project)"

  • Open "OpenProject.lvproj" in a text editor.

  • Note that the dependencies item was put away.

  • Add VI back to the project.

  • Select ""leader "Save All (this project)"

  • Type 'c:\xtra\temp\OpenProject.lvproj' OpenProject

  • Notice that there is a mistake once again, as is expected.

    The same behavior occurs in LabVIEW RTE: a new project with a constant of the Application in an empty vi directory will return an error 7 - file not found, but still return the correct version of LabVIEW in which the project was created.

    I did experiment with workarounds for this problem, and I found a.

    When I used to get the path of LabVIEW libdir in the ini of the executable file, execution is able to load and inspect the project file.

    LIBDIR = 'C:\Program NIUninstaller Instruments\LabVIEW 2013'

    While it is expected that a stand-alone executable can be placed on a system that does not have the LabVIEW IDE, it is still surprising to me that the execution engine cannot find standard library of LabVIEW without some explicit guidance. What other factors contribute to this behavior?

    Espero me can help, I want to produce a series of videos uno has the vez y cada vez as select uno, salga UN omentario correspondiete a este, tengo a VI in el cual meti el path los ciclos dentro para in cada caso me enviara el comment there is repoduciera el video, pero no lo hace y tmpoco me marca error.

    MUCHAS Gracias.

    Hello, that tal

    Biogen revisando you caso y against some things that you can change en you VI.

    Lo Qué pude notar are what esta fallando del VI no esta directly in the part of ActiveX, sino in the part of ciclos. Esto era debido a that none is estaba repitiendo el Código del video meeting.

    Cuando you cerebro una structure all-in-o for in LabVIEW, lo tienes that because tuneles entrada y salida.

    Los tuneles entrada, los datos son you lance al ciclo, generally manera practice, estos deben ir del lado izquierdo o. Cuentan con ESTOS a valor to toma una sola vez al entrar al ciclo, if is quiere use values again o do is quiere Québec same to debe add una funcion llamada registry to offset. Sin embargo, para you application esto no lo need.

    Los tuneles of salida, there're aqui donde creo as esta el problema, son los values than salen del ciclo. Values salen ESTOS solo cuando el ciclo ha terminado hacer todas sus iteraciones, are sea por una condition o por as the number of iteraciones ha convendria.

    Me designed as cuando el boton STOP dabas is you activaba you video, esto're porque al simplice click al boton STOP is CC26 el ciclo is manda you al property path node. ES important resistance that solo manda el ultimo en memoria. Esto lo than debes hacer para dress are you tener Código dentro of you ciclo while.

    Sin embargo, if you metes el resto of you Código a ciclo you all in lo's a suceder are what ejecutara the reproduction of you manera repetitiva strips video of you Selección, decir, strips video selecciones is reproducira, pero automatically, al foot otra iteracion del ciclo, abrirlo concern y nunca lo you will see completo.

    Dress Para este problema una respond seria add an EVENT structure has the advantage that espera hasta esta what Selección than evento, decir, structure, no corre causa como las demas estructuras than hemos visto hasta el momento.

    Cuando agregas you eventos structure, dar debes click sober derecho el marco of the esctructura of eventos y to select in the ventana en medio you control tab (seria mejor use an ENUM) el panel del lado derecho y to select change value. Ahora cada vez as esa variable cambie of valor, to entrara an ese evento.

    En you evento deberas tener primero that nada, en el evento of you selector, ya sea tab o enum you control control y UN business, than strips has selected, will have a constant path constant string una, estas y las mandaras fuera of you case of you event structure until aun dentro del while para produce you have video.

    Este without to repetira are only awaiting a estara what lleve a cabo otro evento.

    ES crear important a related evento con el boton of STOP, sino, no podras leer lo ago. En case you stop to cablea constant una for real one you finalización del ciclo condition.

    Very important, cuando no este pasando en you what sepas VI, puedes simplice en el diagrama of blocking does click in el icono donde hay UN foco. Esto is llama highlight performance, slightly para ver como to tus mueven flujos information.

    A c you agrego a tutorial of ciclos en ingles as against in the page of OR that you can be of mucha ayuda.

    A c you agrego unas imagenes como should meet you VI mas o menos, asi como como add eventos one you eventos structure.

  • Saving files directly from myRIO on computer

    Hi all

    I met a simple but pretty weird problem. In my project of myRIO, I used to save files directly to myRIO (using a constant path of the file), and it works. For example, the way that I saved this next line (RawData_Fly2_E1_F_2016Jan26.tdms) is this:

    /c/RawData_Fly2_E1_F_2016Jan26.TDMS

    With the address above, this file is stored in this location: R:\c\RawData_Fly2_E1_F_2016Jan26.tdms

    However, now my project began to generate very large files, if I want to save the files directly to my computer, the myRIO is connected via a USB cable from the device. I have specifiled my file to be recorded directly under the C drive.

    I made the following changes: I used the control path of the file to specify the location, instead of using the constant path of file.

    But with this change, my file was not found. Basically, it's gone... All files that contain this change of location was not found at the specified location, or the location of origin.

    Here's a screenshot of my path of file control and file path indicator read directly the path to the file.

    You guys would help me how to properly save files directly from myRIO on computer?

    Thank you!

    Consider the myRIO as a computer - its own operating system and with its own file system. Write code LabVIEW is running on a computer that , without some kind of networking file transfer, it cannot see your computer.

    You would usually be:

    (1) data stream via the network to a VI running on your computer (e.g. the network stream) that records the disk on your computer.

    (2) use a method of transferring files of myRIO on your computer either automatically (for example FTP, HTTP POST file (?), files network), or manually (FTP / WebDAV)
