Conversion of MS Exchange Server disk from IDE to SCSI blue screens

Nice day

We are running a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 on a virtual machine in Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition on VMWare vSphere 5.1.0 with the following discs:

1 C: / Capacity 50 GB space free 22.5 GB (OS)

2 E: / 600 GB capacity, free 291 (Exchange database) GB space

3 F: / 360 GB capacity, space free 146 GB (Log files)

All of these disks are IDE and try to change in SCSI, we made a clone of Exchange running and to turn the server works smoothly, then IDE.

Because the Exchange running is still active, the clone is assigned an IP address outside of the vlan operational and is able to start and to flow normally, although some services, requiring probably the DNS do not start.

To work towards a smooth conversion, we changed all the Services of MS Exchange Server in manual start mode and followed the guidelines that provide by the link: VMware KB: conversion of a virtual IDE disk to a virtual SCSI disk

The same steps had previously worked for our virtual machine running Sage ACCPAC, but for the Exchange, immediately after changing SCSI drives and the switching on of the machine it blue screens and returns the message that we run a startup repair or start Windows normally.

As there is just no image to us for this and Windows starting is normally on the screen even in failed attempts to run a startup repair.

Anyone who has managed to convert a disk Server MS Exchange VM to IDE SCSI, kindly help what to do even if with off the server always returns the same error messages.

Assuming that the manual conversion is ok and the virtual controller selected to add the LSI Logic SAS as mentioned by tomtom901, you may still be missing appropriate drivers in Windows. In order to inject the required driver, or temporarily add another disk virtual SCSI connected to a controller LSI Logic SAS before changing records virtual or secret the data first disks, make sure the VM powers on and load the drivers and then convert the drive system in a second step.

PS: I removed your duplicate post in the forum of converter. Hope that's ok with you?

  • Convert virtual disk from IDE to SCSI now Server 2008 does not start

    Hi all

I hope that one of you guys can solve my problem.

I'm new to vmware and have managed to convert my 2008 physical server to a virtual server, but when this virtual disk has been set to IDE, I read that I need to use SCSI for better performance then I attributed a new virtual disk to my server and clone the IDE hard drive on the SCSI disk using EASEUS disk copy software.

After I cloned the drive I removed the IDE hard disk but my server continues to display the BSOD 0x0000007b error (inaccessible boot volume). I can't start normally or through safe mode. If I try to use the recovery mode no drives appear.

I use the LSI Logic SAS controller type and have tried the parallel LSI Logic Controller without result.

Is it possible to fix my guest operating system, without having to reinstall?

    Thank you very much

I check the server system property and I see that we use ADAPTEC Serial ATA RAID host as storage next to Microsoft iCSCI and ADAPTEC RAID SCSI Disk Device 500 GB HD controller initiator.
I also see that ADAPTEC Serial ATA RAID host uses aarahci.sys as a pilot, I check the driver, it's the most recent driver.
My question is the same as I understand that there is something wrong with the driver, but I don't know what really happened. Maybe the driver is not good, the disc has fault or we do not have enough memory (our server has only 4 GB of RAM and memory load is still > 80%, sometimes it reached 96% and current Page File is 4265 MB)
Can someone help me to point out what exactly happens with the error above?

  • Registry problems cause hard disk by clicking on, then blue screen

Dell support said the clicking hard drive and next blue screen is caused by a registry error. In order to solve a problem of major virus and start over, I have completely reformatted the hard drive and installed the operating system and other programs, so I can't understand why I always have a registry problem.  Although I can not specify the exact moment, it seems to happen after an update of Windows, but also occurs at random.  It would also be the installation of MS Office 2010, because I do not remember what happens before the 2010 Windows Installer.  I read that registry cleaners do not work, so I am at a loss for what to do. What I don't understand is how the registry is damaged when all that I've done is install everything from scratch.  I have a Dell Dimension 5100 running Windows XP Home Edition w/SP3.

    Hi LiveToFish,

    1. What is the problem on the computer after reinstalling Windows?

    2. don't you still get the errors blue screen on the computer? If so, then what is the message on the blue screen?

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    (a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

    (b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    (c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

    (d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

If the previous step fails, then check the event viewer to determine the cause of the blue screen on the computer and post back with the details.

  • Server 2008 32 and 64 bit blue screen

Last week I had all my VMs on a single system of failure when I am in the weekend, nothing worked, the error was no valid operating system. OK, so I rebuilt with ESXi, I loaded the client infrastructure and pulled all my ISOs up to the data store. The first was 2003 R2 the iso just wouldn't, so I tried 2008 R2 64 bit and 32 bit. These two blue screened on startup.

I don't know why the failure occurred in the first place, but it has been working well for a year with 2008 on that server

I'm not sure what I could give information.

    Any help appreciated

    Maddison

If you had an ESX/ESXi host with multiple virtual machines running. All virtual machines crashed on a weekend and when you came in, you wiped the physical host, install a new copy of ESXi 4 and now the new VMs wont turn on right?

Looks like a hardware problem, unless Im missing something. I guess it's the same ISOs you used for your first VMs. starting with a test of error of memory for a minimum of 48 hours with some flavor of the memory Test software you prefer on your ESXi host...

  • Conversion of HD Ide HD SCSI please help (merger of VM)

    Hello

Im trying to change the size of your hard drive on my virtual machine but I am not able to do. Ive spent the last two days, but as im getting my hands dirty with stuff I don't know im sucks not bad loses everything as I don't even have a snapshot. I would appreciate if someone already made something similar they and can point me in the right direction. I lost 2 days on something im which should be very easy according to some of the examples seen, very frustrated as his shots so ive long and im still not reached, please help so much.

    Some of the examples;

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1016192

The pair name / value mentioned in the article is not im my files

    http://sanbarrow.com/VMDK/VMX-ide2scsi.html

Seems to be just too easy and it mentions the geometry, once again these name value pairs are not in my .vmx file

With respect to geometry, I created an another VM with the new required parameters so I can copy the geometry, but once again these name value pairs are not in the .vmx file.

    http://blog.creonfx.com/Linux/HOWTO-convert-VMware-Windows-XP-IDE-disk-to-LsiLogic-SCSI

Here's another one, I don't know where and how these commands.

    Any help much appreciated.

I found a few posts that said the same thing about not being able to change the size of the disk if im using IDE.

    It is absolutely quite wrong!

If a virtual disk is IDE or SCSI is irrelevant when it comes to resize the disk.  Our concern is that there may be any snapshots and you cannot resize a disc down once it has been partitioned/formatted and the guest operating system installed only resized to the top.

  • Conversion error of an Exchange Server and a server files to 95%

    Hello

I have problems when I am trying to convert an Exchange Server and a file server. Two of them are physical servers that I'm trying to convert an advanced vsphere ESX infrastructure. The problem is that when the conversion process reach 95% fail and sometimes it says that the physical server restarts. Is there a recommendation to convert and Exchange Server. Because I also convert a SQL Server, and I don't know what to do.

I tell you that these conversions have tried to end the two server into production. Could this be the problem? I should stop all Microsoft Exchange services before you begin to convert the machine? Somewhere I found it is recommended all users to be disconnected from the server when you try to convert a machine, but I don't know if it's a suggestion or it is an institution. I thought that maybe the problem could be that the Exchange database cannot be suspended and that is because the process fails.

Can someone help me with this problem? On the other hand, is there another application that is used to convert a physical machine in virtual? I only know the VMware Converter.

    Thank you.

    Warlock.

While making the P2V conversion, it has always recommended to stop the services associated with the database, tools and application. This helps the conversion process ends without errors.

Have you checked that the vmware converter logs, errors it gives while doing the conversion?

For P2V conversion it is company known tool Platespin.Refer the link for more details below.

  • BlackBerry blackBerry 10 does not receive the emails from the exchange server

    Hello

We have the problem that peripheral Blackberry doesn't synchronize with the server exchange since last week. This is valid for two (classic / Z30) among the four devices, the other ones (classic / Z10) are functioning normally. All have the 10.3.2.2474 version.

I rebooted the unit and removed and rebuilt the e-mail account on the BB, but it doesn't help. Account settings are ok (no messages during installation). The device connects to the exchange server (for example, I can see the account's e-mail records in the options) and I can also send mails. But I don't get e-mails, calendar items, contacts, etc.

    Any ideas?

  • Blue screen after conversion to type from SCSI to IDE controller

    Hello

No idea how to convert IDE controller SCSI controller in Windows xp (32-bit) OS?

This virtual machine has a single main drive.

I followed this article, but it leads to the blue screen error

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1016192

Even I tried with free, but nothing works.

No idea how to solve the problem or how to convert the type of IDE controller type of SCSI controller without error on blue screen?

    Now you can do it.

The important thing is your scsi boot disk should be scsi 0000 - this way the second disc 0001 - otherwise she would try to boot from your empty disk.

After that, you can of course remove the extra drive.

We plan to virtualize Exchange 2007 environment.  It will be built from scratch - not a P2V conversion.

I read the forums and some documents, in particular the virtualization of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and Exchange Server 2007 Design Considerations

But I have a few questions on the layout of the disks.  Our ESX 3.5 hosts are connected to a SAN NetApp using fibres.  The data store would be OK to work inside the virtual machine (on a VMDK independent of the OS?)

I had other people recommend that the data store is mounted outside the VMDK, perhaps via fcp, cifs or iscsi?

    Thank you

Even if several Exchange 2007, SQL 2005, file servers tend to use the RDM solution, but as you know VMFS/RDM pretty much has the same performance so certainly not on performance but it would be personal preference. Many people like the flexibility to manage VMFS comments readers and others prefer RDM it varies. I use most of it well RDM mode but plan physics/logic mode accordingly because each has a different use.

  • SBS Server 2003 and Exchange Server - need access, but don't have HARD drive

    Hello

A couple of years our sever dies completely, but we kept the drive HARD, but unfortunately not the CD with the software or the software key. So, I now have 2HDD, the original boot partition and the other with the data. now as well clean and fully functional and connected to an old desk. I can see everything beautiful, but I can't boot from the original boot drive (I tried simply disconnecting desktop boot disk and windows for 1 second logo shows a d, then chucks back me to the initial charge (BACK?).) The point is that I need to boot into SBS2003 with exchange server installed in order to access a handful of old emails that have become extremely important, as well as to run an old version of Filemaker server, which can run on any newer operating system

I tried, by the way, a converter for swap files and I can see the directories but I think that, unless I paid $xxx.00 for something, which I can't afford now, so I will not get the emails and all attachments back.

So my question is this - is anyway that I can use the original startup disk in a new hardware environment to restore sbs 200 and Exchange if you work? I paid huge sums for both, so I think I should be able to use it again!

    Thank you very much
