Conversion of Raid 1 configuration to 1 normal hard drive with Windows XP Professional

I have a Dell Precision Workstation 380, which has been set up at the factory in Raid 1 with 2 Seagate 160 GB hard drives.  The operating system is Windows XP Professional.  I would like to delete the Raid 1 configuration and that the computer is a normal hard drive configuration 1.  Can someone help me with a step by step procedure to achieve this?

Hi cbcenterplus,

RAID 1 means that you essentially two drives separated with identical information. In order to break the RAID is simple. Start on the Intel RAID Option Rom utility (ctrl + I), replace two disks drives non-members, and then restart your computer.  The 2nd disc will receive a new drive letter, and you can get in shape by using the disk management and have extra space.

  • RAID configuration on a single hard drive?

    Hello

Is it possible to configure the RAID in a single hard drive.

The RAID is not just about redundancy. In the case of mirror RAID is. But, in the case of the RAID stripe, it's performance. There are other RAID types too if you feel like Googling them, but I can assure that they all involve at least two physical disks. However, many RAID controllers that support stripe and mirror (RAID 0 and 1).

You cannot create a RAID with a single physical disk, even if you create more than one partition on it.

  • Can WRT1900ACS use an external hard drive with disks in RAID 0, 1, or JBOD?

    Hello

    Happy new year.

Is an external drive with more disks RAID 0, 1; JBOD compatible with WRT1900ACS?

I have this idea to tie a big (6-8 TB) external drive and use the DLNA feature as an alternative to a computer as NAS and DLNA server. The external drive could be four 2 TB Western Digital hard drives in RAID 0, 1; JBOD. The boxes can be:

    - Western Digital my book Duo.

    - IB-3640SU3 - external case of JBOD 4 x with eSATA and USB 3.0 for disks 3.5 "SATA hard.

I hope someone can help clarify if I have misunderstood something.

    Jan Rouvi

Hello. It is not recommended to use this type of enclosure with the WRT1900ACS, since most of this is managed by software that are installed on the computer. The software will not be able to detect hard drives, whether they are connected to the router and the router does not have this capability to configure drives in RAID 0, 1, or JBOD. The configuration of the router storage tool is just very basic. If you really need to configure RAID 0, 1, or JBOD in terms of network, you must obtain a SIN.

  • Disk not configured VM after Exchange hard drive Slots / berries

Hi - I have 5.5 ESXi configured HP DL380 G6 server and three independent logical drives.  I had exchanged a HDD in slot 1 with slot 3 to do a test, but then he returned to original slots.

In the ESXi VMware client, I see the detected hard drives but next to him said ' ' unconfigured disk and virtual machines, I say unknown inaccessible. "

I removed the VM of the inventory by pressing a note KM, but the problem is that I do not see my data stores, none of the hard disk appears in the Configuration > storage > devices section. If I can see them in the Configuration > health > storage area.

Any thoughts on what I can do for the disc to be recognized, all that was done was split/Bay 1 hard drive was moved to slot/Bay 3 and vice versa.

Would appreciate the help as I would not start over.

    Thank you!

I have T110 server with raid 1 and need to put larger in discs.  Do I need acronis or with raid one can I just jump frog records.  Can I put in larger disk in drive Bay leave disc copy 0 second ot new bigger disk and then Exchange disk 1 in drive 0 and put a new another drive in the Bay from 2nd.

Does absolutely not the way. If it's a Soft raid then

You can put larger discs in 1 at a time and you'll have to do this TWICE.

Then rebuild the raid of critcal return to normal.

Then you can extend the partition of the free space.

If it's a hardware raid, you must create a new container on the discs and clone dvd or USB bootable from a USB that can contain all the data and.

  • is my disk file transfer rate normal hard drive or it got slower?

is my normal file transfer rate or he got more slowly for my hard drive? I fell my knee on my computer by hearing a scratching sound and comments, it could be the hard drive since its a thing that goes. When I copy large files like 4 GB + from one folder to another transfer rate starts at about 100 MB/s then drop down to and remains at about 50 to 30 MB per second. I never pay attention to my transfer speed and do not know if this is how she got more slow? It is the internal hard drive for my desktop specs below

    record to hard drive:

    Manufacturer - Western Digital
    B21 - WD6400AAKS
    Capacity - 640GB
    Interface - SATA 3 Gb/s
    Cache - 16 MB
    RPM - 7200
    Form factor - 3.5 "

    I agree with MightyMiro_WD

This kind of behavior is completely normal.  I doubt that you have something wrong.

Keep in mind that the transfer rate is a snapshot at a point in time.  They always communicating more rapid at the beginning of a transfer.  If it's a smaller file, you would not see that drop down.

results in: unable to create the virtual disk: the specified device is not a valid physical disk (20) device.

The reason seems to be the type of partition 0xfd (raid autodetect matrices). This problem is presented with the disk itself.

    No idea how to fix?

    P.S.:

I tried also to my sata on board my Point of Lynx DH87RL passthrough intel AHCI, but it failed when the connection to the virtual machine:

Re: DirectPath I/O for Haswell Lynx Point SATA AHCI controller

I found the failure. It's a little embarrassing.

It was just the missing ' / ' in front of vmfs.

Now, my drives are running in physical RDM mode.

P.S.: Just pull-out taking the SATA controller does not work. See the link to the last thread.

Then you will need to enter CTRL-R, highlight the PERC controller in the upper left corner of the VD MGMT screen, foreign and import.  Then see if your boots OS and your data is accessible.

  • Adding space with bigger hard drives with 3WARE 9650SE RAID

My original installation of Windows 7 is on a RAID 10 set up using 4 640 GB drives on a 3Ware 9650SE RAID card.  I replaced the drives one at a time with 1 TB drives, leaving reconstruction table each time before adding another.   Now that all 4 are in place, I would have a little less than 2 TB of space, but it does not appear.  Win7 is installed on a 200 GB partition, with the rest of the disk space showing that GB 972 yet (that I use for file storage).   Any thoughts on how to extend this option to use all the available space under the name more storage RAID 2?  I does not appear under management of the reader and does not help the 3DM 2 with resizing tool.  This has worked well for the RAID migration when on the SATAs motherboard, but it's another controller.   I would prefer not to have to reload Windows to use the extra space.

  • (Redirected) T5810/hard drive Configuration Options

Does anyone know the configuration specific to the hard drive bays T5810 with respect to the total capacity of the disks 2.5 and 3.5? Sale and manual doc is a bit ambiguous.  Plan would be to order with a G 256 SSD as boot drive, then add an additional 480 G SSD, plus 1-2 3.5 "drives of the machine spinning it would replace.  What I think, based on what I see, is the berries can accommodate up to 4 drives, either 2.5 or 3.5, but the specs say 2 3.5 drive bays only... It seems that one of the optical bays can maintain disks 3.5 or 2.5 (possibly with an optional adapter, I see not listed).  There are enough connectors SATA on the MB, and I'm not going to add a hardware RAID card.

Also, if ordered with 1 single drive, the SATA and present for the full expansion of power connectors?  The configuration in order to specify a configuration of hard disk without also ordering the hard drives as well, that won't be necessary in my case.

    Thanks in advance.

Having never had to replace a HARD drive in a RAID 1 configuration on a PowerEdge 2950 Server (PERC 5 / i).

I replaced the HDD failure with the new HARD drive with the same part number.

If the data is critical, and you don't have a backup, get one now.

NEVER stop a server to introduce a disk. If the reader poster pred fail, force the drive offline first, then remove it. If it is already broken, then just pull it off.

  • Qosmio G20-108: RAID-> new HARD drive replacement - he does not want to mirror

I have a laptop G20-108. The raid was quite happilly mirroring then Hdd2 failed. I removed the disk dirve and replaced by a new one [seagate 100 GB sata 150], but he does not want to mirror?

The stuff of aide said she should recognize a new hard drive with a context menu? I do not have it, but when you click on the console's hard drive icons both say that they are what they should be, but they are both "affected"? Nine should be disconnected not online? should we not say reconstruction?
I tried pressing the raid button turn off but it wouldn't let me!

Help how to leave the raid console know it is a new drive and should rebuild Hdd1?

    Hello
For the use of toshiba (stripping or Mirroring) RAID, you must have two identical drives. Your G20-108 model comes with 120 GB (60 + 60), two hard drives. If you bought a 100 GB hard drive, certainly it will not work.

Try this, and you will have no problems:
Make sure that the disks are identical; You can use two different brands, if they are the same size and speed, but it's a BAD IDEA, just get two new hard drives, same brand and size and you make life simple.

  • Dual Boot with windows XP Pro with 2 HARD drive, error on secondary windows install: "Windows did not start because of a configuration of the disk of the computer problem. Could not read the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware... »

Hi, I recently bought a new Hitachi 1 TB internal hard drive. I wanted to do a clean install on the new drive (d), be able to dual boot my computer and leave my old 300 GB disk (C :) as the primary windows installation. After physically installing the new HARD drive, I noticed that "new hardware found" and the the brand name flashed in the bottom right corner. I thought I'd see the new hard drive in my computer, but I did not. I initialized the new HARD drive with the computer management window (right click on my computer - manage) and I also formatted in NTFS (I had to change my printer hard drive letter to assign the new HARD drive with the letter D, but I've made other changes after this step). Now, I could see and use in my main windows on the C: installation. I then installed a windows new copy XP pro with the installation CD I got for my C: but on the D: (Note: I have a Dell computer (and the Dell reinstallation CD) and my current version of windows has SP3 while the installation CD is only SP2) (I also reformatted my HARD drive during the installation of windows to NTFS)

Now when I try to start on installing the new on my D: I get "Windows did not start because of a configuration of the disk of the computer problem. Could not read the selected boot disk. Check startup disk and hardware access path. "and another line saying to refer to manuals HARD drive and windows.

My Boot.ini file at this time was:

    [boot loader]
    Timeout = 5
    default = multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (2) \WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    "multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (2) \WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional "/ noexecute = optin/fastdetect
    "signature (ac516a5c) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) \WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional own "/ noexecute = optin/fastdetect

I looked towards the top of this help page, but for now I'm unlucky:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/314477

(The next steps I took by throwing from the Windows CD and go into the repair console)

I tried to use the bootcfg /rebuild but the line to boot.ini for my secondary HARD drive still does not work.

    He gave me something like:

    [boot loader]
    Timeout = 5
    default = multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (2) \WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    "multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (2) \WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional "/ noexecute = optin/fastdetect
    "signature (ac516a5c) disk (0) rdisk (1) partition (1) \WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional own "/ noexecute = optin/fastdetect

I also tried to change the signature() to multi (0), but it did not work. (or try almost all possible permutations of disk() and rdisk() partition() 0 to 2).

I also tried to use expand F(dvd-drive):\i386\ntkrnlmp(I_have_a_duo-core).ex_ D:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe and a few other combinations, but I when I login as D:\windows simply, it fails to extend with a message like "could not develop" or C:\windows I get "restricted access".

I have not yet tried CHKDSK/r, but since I did a clean install on a newly formatted drive... I don't think it would work.

I've also marked the partition on the D: as active (in computer management), but it did not help me.

I've done a first installation of windows repair, strangely, I couldn't fix this one... Still does not work...

My default windows installation yet works very well & I see that windows has been installed on the D: but I'm ideas from how to operate the dual-boot, can someone throw me a BONE on what to do?

Maybe try to do something with the Boot Manager (whatever it is?) Create a new partition and use it as a boot manager? I don't really want to do this, because if I made a mistake I will be unable to use my computer and dual boot should work without going through all this trouble... But I found this page: http://technet.microsoft.com/fr-fr/library/ee829686%28WS.10%29.aspx

Could a clean install two HDD help? I hope I won't have to do...

    Someone has an idea?

PS: I'm not such an advanced user so I need a solution step by step, thanks!

Edit: I also noted that I can't see my new HARD drive in my BIOS... weird... SATA-0 is my old drive HARD 1 and 2 are my dvd 3-5 readers are 'off' and it doesn't seem to be anything that it is plugged in. I also have 4 bays for internal HARD disks. Now, 2 are busy.

Edit2: I looked inside my case and enabled the good Sata in the Bios after a reboot it detected the drive correctly. Dual boot doesn't always work well... The fact that it was disable in the BIOS while I was installing the new HARD drive could change anything? Hmm...

In case I wasn't clear enough: I had a windows XP Pro installed on my C:, bought a new hard drive and installed the same copy of windows on it (d). I think that should allow me to double boot between the two installs different. Even if for some reason I can't boot from one on my D:. Andrew, I do not understand why you so far physically disconnect the other drive, the point of the whole operation is to build a boot.ini file so that the BIOS knows that it y facilities 2 windows and you allow to choose (and not have conflicting problems between the 2 systems), someone correct me if I'm wrong? "Expand" the part of my first post made reference to one of the solutions provided by Microsoft in the first link that I have included in my previous post (but I can't seem to work).

In addition, it is the procedure that I followed: http://www.ehow.com/how_5950826_boot-two-different-hard-drives.html

(except I've had the first installation already done).

Andrew "also, once a new hd is plugged on the pc & running, most of the BIOS will place (them) as 1st priority hd, set the BIOS to do this", you mean that by installing separately from windows on each unit when the other is not plugged in, I could choose what disk to start from defining their priority in the BIOS once they are all plugged back? It's too tedious (as I intend to move frequently between the 2 installs) and requires a computer to other users of the lack of computer knowledge. Unfortunately, it is not a viable option.

EDIT: I DID IT! Hmmm... Well, I double checked in the recovery console, the path of the new HARD drive with the arc command Scan. Tried to start again with the MULTI (0) in my boot.ini and it worked... I also had my windows install CD in. Maybe that is why I could not start, windows needs the CD to complete the installation? Weird, I don't know what I did to the difficulty it... but hey, it works! Thanks for your ideas guys!
