Converter allows to convert a physical computer to Vista 64-bit?

I tried to convert a virtual machine Vista64 but it requires the installation of vista disc, when trying to runt of the VM in VMPlayer.  This raised the question if the converter can create a Vista 32 or 64-bit VM.  Does anyone have information on this?

If when you say "Create a virtual machine in Vista 64" you mean using the converter to make the machine virtual, then running as VM on the machine that you have used the converter on, Yes, you will still need.  Whatever you have the virtual machine running on the same box it has been virtualized, he sees more than the physical hardware.  You have actually taken this machine through a box of physics with brand x and chipset motherboard and have now run on VMware virtual hardware with a different chipset.  He will not have to load drivers for his first start.

  • Cannot virtualize my physical machine with Vista 64-bit

    Hello

This is very similar to the previous discussion...

I built a x 64 bit windows vista from my physical laptop system image.  It is a HP Pavilion DV5-1253 CL model.  I have Windows Vista 64-bit installed on it.

But when I try and either build a new x 64 machine, or try to load this x 64 vm, I have done, I get this:

Software virtualization is incompatible with the long mode on this platform. Long mode off. Without the support of the long mode, the virtual machine will not be able to run 64-bit code.

    What is going on?

If it is not supported, what should I do to get Vista running on it?  I don't have the provider's Setup diskettes.  The OS is on the hard drive in a recovery for purposes of recovery partition.  Do I have to buy a 32-bit HP or elsewhere to make this work?

I looked at the BIOS setting and don't see anything about Virtualization or in long mode.

    Scott

I'm afraid there is Word options available since it is a hardware problem. You must either upgrade the current system with a CPU (most BIOS) that supports VT - x or get a new PC.

  • Networking a laptop 64 bit Windows 7 with a desktop computer Windows Vista 64-bit

I have a Dell desktop running 64-bit Windows Vista with a USB connected HP Photosmart printer operating system.  My wife used to have a laptop with an XP operating system and we have had no problem sharing the printer.  Now she has a laptop (HP) laptop to Windows 7 64 bit and fails to print.

His laptop is connected wireless to Verizon FIOS router (wireless-g, I think).  I am connected by ethernet.

If I look at a map of the comprehensive network of my Vista PC I can see his laptop and explore appropriate records of (public) level on his hard drive.   Sharing my Vista PC and are discovery options: network discovery:; File sharing:. Public folder sharing:; Printer sharing:; Password protected sharing: Off; The media sharing: Off.  My Vista shows the home network as a WORKING group.

I use McAfee SecurityCenter and when I open the McAfee network map it also shows my wife's cell phone with its IP address.

On my wife's cell phone two PCs appear on the map of the comprehensive network of the window and it shows my PC IPv4, IPv6 and MAC address, but if I try to 'Open' from my PC to the icon on the map, I get an error message suggesting I be spelled the name wrong or there is a network problem (error code 0 x 80070035 the network path was not found).  I ran the diagnostic of the error dialog box and he suggested to "make sure that the device allows incoming connections for printing and file sharing", the windows firewall settings.  Its network card qualifies to the network TPEN1, identity, assigned to the Verizon router. It shows his laptop connected by a dotted line (wireless)? to TPEN1 which is connected to a switch.  My PC is also connected to the switch which in turn is connected by a bridge to the Internet.  Options advanced sharing his PC for the home or work (current profile) are set on: turn on the discovery network. Enable file sharing and printing; Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in public folders;  Media streaming is disabled; Use 128-bit encryption to protect file sharing connections (recommended); Disable password protected sharing;  Use the user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers.

Its Norton Internet Security Network security map shows my PC as being in line with trust to full trust level.  It also shows the Swith and 2 generic devices with Shared Trust.

    So... anyone have any suggestions?

This message looks like a long history because I don't know what is the level of knowledge of the user, and what has already been done.

The info goes through the motions of the configuration and verify most of the common aspects of the functionality of Windows OS' LAN.

    ----------------------

Win7 when configured on the peer-to-peer network has three types of configurations of sharing.

Group residential network = only works between Win 7 computers. This type of configuration, it is very easy to entry level users to start sharing network.

Working network = fundamentally similar to previous methods of sharing that allow you to control what, how and to whom the records would be shared with.

    Public share
= network Public (as Internet Café) in order to reduce security risks.

Make sure that the software firewall on each computer allows free local traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall on, Vista/XP Firewall Native should be disabled, and the active firewall has adjusted to your network numbers IP on what is sometimes called the Zone of confidence (see part 3 firewall instructions

    General example, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#trusted
Please note that some 3rd party software firewall continue to block the same aspects it traffic Local, they are turned Off (disabled). If possible, configure the firewall correctly or completely uninstall to allow a clean flow of local network traffic. If the 3rd party software is uninstalled, or disables, make sure Windows native firewall is active .

Since you have a network with Win 7 and the other version of Windows, you must configure Windows 7 as work network.

In the center of the network, by clicking on the type of network opens the window to the right.

Choose your network type. Note the check box at the bottom and check/uncheck depending on your needs.

When you have finished the configuration of the system, it is recommended to restart everything the router and all computers involved.

    -------------

If necessary check specifically Permission/security settings.

Point to a folder that wants to share do right click and choose Properties.

    In the properties

Click on the Security tab shown in the bellows of the photo on the right) and verify that users and their permissions (see photo below Centre and left) are configured correctly. Then do the same for the authorization tab.

This screen shot is to Win 7, Vista menus are similar.

The Security Panel and the authorization Panel, you need to highlight each user/group and consider that the authorization controls are verified correctly.

When everything is OK, restart the network (router and computer).

Please note that the users and groups listed on the screen shoot are just an example. Your list will focus on how your system is configured.

    ---------------------

You should consider that many times the final solution could involve total uninstall of the 3rd party security Suits.

In this case, you can be set at the same level with installing Microsoft Security Essentials which are used in the applications of a native Vista/Win 7 firewall and AntiVirus/AntiSpyware.

    original title: everything just curious...

    Hello

Check with your system manufacturer (manufacturer of motherboard for custom systems) to see if your computer
can run Windows 7. If so check to see if it can run 64-bit which has higher minimum
requirements than 32-bit. Finally check to see if the hardware upgrades that you make will be
work in this computer. Don't forget if you spend a lot of money on upgrades, you may have
but could a new computer for the same price. And then you'd have two systems.

Run the Upgrade Advisor, and check with the center of compatibility for your key features. Also
some system manufacturers have the online help and information for the upgrade to Windows 7.

Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - run this http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx

    Also check the Compatibility Center
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-7/en-us/default.aspx

To see if you can run XP, Vista, or Windows 7 64-BIT, you will need to check with the system
manufacturer if it is 64-bit capable. Are there drivers 64-bit for all devices? To run 64-bit you
need 64-bit drivers (and the system must be able to run this version of Windows 64-bit).

I hope this helps and happy holidays!

  • Convert the remote physical computer Win98

    = & gt; SEE maybe INSTEAD: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1144827

TOO MANY DEAD ENDS. I am very frustrated. Please help me find a new path, or convert a dead-end in a path of success!

I need to move from a legacy Win98 to a virtual machine, bringing with it boot disk software that may not be installed or activated again.

    = #1 END =.

I put the disc in a remote computer as boot drive. I can't convert Win98 remote physical computer to a virtual machine. )

From VMware Workstation 6.5, I File/Import, connect to the remote computer successfully (name = michelle, username = guest, password = *). Then, I like the VMware Converter Agent needs to be installed temporarily on your remote computer. I then get a "failed to connect" error. In the vmware log file, I see the converter tries to a share named "\michelle\ADMIN$" there is no such action, and I don't know how you would set this to the top on the Win98 machine. This attempt will never succeed? In a help file, I read "the wizard of Conversion of VMware in Desktop allows you to import the following types of virtual and physical machines:"and Win98 is NOT in the list. "

    = #2 END =.

Otherwise, I could build a v2I backup (.sv2i) and try to convert that. However, I vaguely remember trying to do this a few years ago, and it does not Win98. It may concern the converter does not support Win98

    = DEAD END #3 =.

Otherwise, maybe I need to go back to a 'METHOD ZERO' tablecloth topic (http://communities.vmware.com/message/1140447#1140447) earlier suggested continuum "Port loses Win98 bootdisk to the virtual machine (guest)? ((I'm waiting on backup .qic below before taking the disc off another motherboard and put it in the host machine.))

However, his method includes the use of vmware - vdiskmanager.exe. I do not have this program, and it appears to come only with the GSX server. All I have is VMware Workstation 6.5.X.

    = #4 END =.

Otherwise... I'm currently a .qic BackupMyPC backup of the original diskette of Win98, now begin on another card mother. I hope that later have a Win98 VM with BackupMyPC and restore my backup of .qic original Win98 disk in the virtual machine. HOWEVER, I can't create the virtual Win98 machine. Other current running VMs can get to my CD, but this one won't boot off of it. I got the new VM at startup of a Win95 boot in DOS disk, and this virtual machine will now Boot C: in DOS mode. However, it does not recognize my CD-ROM as d:, whatever the configuration (image autodetect, d: or iso). So, I'm stuck again!

    = #5 END =.

I noticed that Ghost 14 has its own ability to export to a VMware virtual image. However, Ghost 14 does not work under Win98.

    = DANGEROUS END #6 =.

If I try to upgrade the operating system of the real legacy disk Win98, I'll probably break some features of other old tools I need, which are the reason why I can't start over again. Physically I could clone the drive, but it's probably another series of dead ends. The worst would be to get it all cloned and running to find the legacy of garbage tools...

    =================

    Thank you very much

    Helmut

PS Where can I find vdiskmanager continuum 'method of zero?

PS how to add this community to 'my communities '?

You did say "or a second VM.  Of course, I don't know why a 'second' VM.  All I think that I need is a single machine virtual to run Acronis restore.  Why do I need TWO of them, or why I need this product LiveCD?

Instead of overwrite your Windows XP guest, you can simply attach a new virtual disk... and replace this one... then remove the new virtual disk from VM WinXP and attach the same disk to your guest of win98 and start from there.

    It will be useful,

  • Convert a physical server (w / HBA) virtual

    Hello

I need your help to convert a physical server connected to a HP Modular Storage Array 1000 thanks to an HBA.

My question: what is the best practice to do this kind of conversion? When I select the physical server VMWARE converter will convert the storage on a virtual drive?

    Thank you.

    Pedro

The big question is what is the storage. ESX (i) have a limit on the size of the drive (2 TB less than 512 bytes). The MSA1000 is less than 2 TB, you should be able to run the converter and create the virtual server, including the E: drive. If the MSA is greater than 2 TB, but the used space is less than 2 TB converter will allow you to create the fret.

  • Convert a physical Wins Server in a virtual machine for redundancy

    Hello world

Thanks in advance for your help.

We have just set up an emergency operations center and run thrus by an optical fiber (so, technically, it's the same network but with some redundant internet). And we would like to set up the servers to replicate all the production servers (wins, sql, apps... etc) at end of failover/redundancy. The best is to reproduce in live all the time... but less than a number of days can be very well. If something happens, systems can be "reactive" or better proactively kicks in.

Running on SAN cluster could be a solution... but we cannot have enough $ to build a San now.

I would like to ask if VMWare provide all product that can take a snapshot or perform replication from all Wins servers to a virtual machine by a calendar environment. I think that virtual machine, because we don't have to buy new hardware while double set.

    Vcenter is for this?

    Any suggestion would be great.

    Thank you very much.

    Takami Chiro

Software double-take doues not need to be run on a cluster - it can be physical or virtual, and yes it can replicate a server on a virtual machine - vmware converter will allow you to P2v physical machine, but it will be a manual process.

  • Converting a physical server to a host

I'm new to VMware and I'm unable to find the right strategy.

I would like to convert a physical server to a computer computer ESXi host and migrate existing BONES from the server (Windows Server 2003 w/SQL Server 2005) to a virtual machine on the same machine. This host will be the first on my network. What I've read, it seems that the Converter requires a destination host must be specified during conversion. Because the machine will become the destination host, how should I do this?

Is it possible for me to convert the existing operating system and store, install ESXi and then import the old OS as a virtual machine?

    Thanks in advance,

    Adam

    Hi Adam,.

    Welcome to the forums.

You can virtualize your server as a workstation or VM Player that you will store on a PC (possibly use a disc of removable storage for conversion). Use Workstation or Player to start the virtual machine and verify that everything is OK. When you think that your application is running virtual, install ESXi on your physical server and a copy of the virtual machine, or make another conversion of PC to ESXi.

    Good luck.

  • How much of my data to my computer Windows Xp can I convert an Apple computer

How much of my data to my computer Windows Xp can I convert an Apple computer.  Will it take all new programs (software)?

As the software will, Yes, you will need software almost entirely new.

If you have installed your software to check disk (cd or dvd) of your software box came in. It will say if it is Mac compatible. Some discs of software include installers for Windows and Mac computers.

The good news is that a lot of software that you are familiar with the use of Windows is a Mac version that you can buy. For the instance of Microsoft office - you can buy a Mac version of the software and will be able to open your existing Word, Excel, files etc. that you have on your XP computer.

So far as photo/image files, PDF files and other common files of format you have on your XP computer, you will be able to open these files very well on a Mac.

Good luck on your switch. As a recent PC to Mac converter, I don't know if anybody somewhat a challenge. But I found it's worth!
