copy a virtual machine on an external HARD drive

Dear,

I need to save my virtual machine to an external HARD disk before you delete it in order to use it again if necessary.

What is the best way to do it?

Kind regards

  • Error message "unable to copy the file"hiberfil", it is used by another person or program." Problem copying content from your PC to external hard drive.

Original title: problem to copy content from your PC to external hard drive.

I use Windows XP 2000 and am trying to restore my pc to factory settings as it is continuously 'stick '. When you try to copy my drive "c" on an external drive I get a message saying "unable to copy the file"hiberfil", it is used by another person or program." Close any program that might be using the file and try again "." What is 'hiberfil' and how do I close it down as I am not aware that I use?

    Concerning

    Pete

The hiberfil.sys will be created every time that you start... If you put in hibernation enabled in your control panel, Power Options and the file is 'open' to think that you can actually choose to Hibernate at any given time.  When you Hibernate XP gives a note of it and will write a hiberfil.sys sometimes important in the c:\ folder so that when XP fires again upwards and returns from hibernation, XP will read the hiberfil.sys file and return to the situation that you were in when you put into hibernation.

I use to be a chronic hibernant because it takes less time to return after hibernation as a cold start.  Sometimes, it can actually be slower that a cold so start your system based on the amount of RAM has.  The more RAM you have, the more your hiberfil.sys will, if sometimes it's faster to move with just a cold start if you Hibernate (26,03 seconds for me).

If hiberfil.sys is giving you a hard time (you would not in any way copy it) disable hibernation in your Power Options and the file will be deleted immediately since it would be is no longer necessary.  That would solve this, but if you are trying to copy the entire C drive, you will have other files to complain after that.

It is certainly possible to make a complete copy of the C drive, if you want, but you will have to initialize on something next to your drive hard if you want to do this so the XP files are not used - then you can copy anything and everything.  You can get some imaging software of disc that will also help you.

It depends on what the problem is you want to solve and what you wand to end up with when you're done (so far, unspecified).

I would work on figure our why your XP is paste and fix it in place.  XP should not be sticky.

  • How can I access my Microsoft Virtual PC on an external hard drive with Windows Virtual PC on my new computer?

For a few years, I have been using a set of VPC on external hard drives (.vmc files both .vhd located on external drives) with the Microsoft Virtual PC/Virtual PC Console on a Windows XP computer. They worked perfectly.

However, I just bought a new computer with Windows 7, and I'm unable to access the VPC on the external hard drive. I installed successfully, Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP mode on the computer, and I copied the file to the host machine's .vmc. However, when I try to open the virtual computer, I get a message saying that the VPC was "impossible to write in one of its virtual hard disks.

I've tried everything I can think of, but the only thing that works is to copy the .vmc and .vhd in the computer file. The problem is that I use the VPC for training online, and I have 16 of them. If I copy everything in the computer, I will use all 500 GB of disk space.

There must be a way to access the VPC for external drives. If I can do it on the old XP computer, it should be possible to do it on the new Windows 7 computer.

    Help, please.

    Thank you!

IF you mean you want to download them on iCloud.com, you can go to the albums > all the photos where you can quickly select multiple photos and upload them. I don't pretend do that you it in batches but rather than try it all at once.

  • Really slow copying files to iMac to Seagate external HARD drive

I have an iMac mid-2011 running El Capitan, and I'm having a problem copying through large files to my TB 5 Seagate external hard drives.  The copy process is so slow that it is useless to try to back up files more.  Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?  I found a thread from 2013, mentioned that Spotlight indexing is the problem, but no luck so far.  Anyone got any ideas?  Thank you!!!

What size is the drive? How are you connected to it? How big are the files?

  • Errors of license after recovering Time machine on an external hard drive

My internal HD failed and I'm temporarily using an external drive as my primary HD. I loaded all my data from my backup time machine external hard disk temporarily until my new mac arrives (next week). Now, I'm getting licenses 150:30 error code when I try to open Photoshop. It says restart may fix it. He has not fixed the problem. Any recommendations? I need to work on some files now and am stuck.

    Thank you!

Yes. This is very common. Photoshop should never be moved or transferred, because the license is tied to the Mac and move breaks the license.

The remedy is simple. Reinstall using your discs and don't forget to apply the updates. You will begin to 11.0.0.

  • Time machine shows no external hard drive

I have two external drives: USB key contains my iTunes and a 1 TB WD Passport contains photos and other files. I also have a Time Capsule I use to save them. When external drives are plugged into my Macbook USB ports all right; they back up regularly and I can see the backups after entering Time Machine.

However, when they are disconnected and I enter the time Machine I can't see them more. That concerns me. If one of these devices is lost or stolen, how they may be visible in Time Machine so I can restore?

See the info on the restoration of several partitions of Pondini.

    See Q32 here. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html

However I would recommend that you use Time Machine to back up all your local startup disk... Carbon Copy Cloner to backup your other readers... It is able to select each drive and make another backup... Time Machine is too limited.

  • Download of external hard drive in the data store

I need to move a virtual machine from one host to another host to a desktop, both running ESXi 4.1. I copied the file from the virtual machine to an external hard drive from the source host using the browser of data store. Is it possible to connect the drive external hard directly on the host target via USB and download the file to the virtual machine in the local data store on the host?

I know that I can just use the broswer data store and download them to the local network via a laptop running the vSphere client connected directly to the host (rather than the server of vC. If I was logged on the vC server must run traffic over the Wan to the Vc and then back to the host of Management Office?). I'd rather do it directly from the outside in the host.

    Welcome to the communities.

Unfortunately not. You can use a tool such as Veeam fastSCP to transfer. It is faster than the browser data store, and it's free. http://Veeam.com

  • Move a computer virtual to one external hard drive to another... one is accessed remotely

The external hard drive which has my VM on it has always attached to my MacBook Pro via a firewire cable.  Recently, I bought the latest version Apple Time Capsule, which I use as a router.  I have attached my external hard drive from VM to the router, but I've found that Fusion works very slowly in this way.  When I tried to reconnect the external hard drive to the laptop directly again, Fusion starts but some files could not be found and I continued to get the guests on that wouldn't go away and let me click in the window of Fusion.  The only way it works now to use the hard drive in the configuration router.  This is the address that my MacBook Pro wants to see.  Even then, things are not quite right.  So... has decided I should just move my VM from external HDD (when it is connected to the router) on a new external hard drive that plugs directly into the laptop. The transfer is so slow... He told me to expect to wait hours 219.  Help!  How I comment j' ai I stop all this and just connect the hard drive with my VM it directly in the Mac, to operate and move them where I want to move?

    Thank you

    Michelle

    Hello

Basically, you can just copy the entire virtual machine to the new hard drive and run it from there. There is not much more than that, but you need to stop your VM (not hang) before performing the copy.

However, there is a chance that you will have to make some small adjustments, but it depends on how your virtual machine has been implemented.

When I tried to reconnect the external hard drive to the laptop directly again, Fusion starts but some files could not be found and I continued to get the guests on that wouldn't go away and let me click in the window of Fusion.

UH... without we say what these some files are not found, we cannot be a great help. The first thing to try is to attach the vmware.log of your virtual machine file when you try to do this again.
