  Have you tried a forced reboot? Hold down the home and Sleep/Wake buttons simultaneously for about 15-20 seconds , until the Apple logo appears. You won't lose anything.

  Something very strange is happening with my laptop (dv6-3060ee). Up to this day at noon, everything worked well, including the wireless network.   Thank you for your help, but I'd already sorted.

  The problem was really the driver, an update had been installed by the HP update program and it makes the device stop working. This problematic driver was March, I can't remember the version number.

  I went to the Device Manager and pressed on "Roll Back Driver". Windows restored to an October/2009 driver, 8.0.0.238 version number, and now it works as it should.
