CPU overheating runing Linux Ubuntu - Satelite L300-1AQ

Guys,

I installed Ubuntu (Ubuntu 9.10 - Karmic Koala) on my laptop (Dual boot with Vista), but after a few minutes, the temperature is very high ranging from 35 to 45 72 15 minutes.

The problem does not exist in Windows Vista.
Can someone help me with the problem please? I'm new to linux, so if you decided to help me please make it as simple as possible.

See you soon,.

Hello

You run the programs of any background on linux?

I had a similar problem on another laptop that on Linux the CPU fan is still running. To solve this program that I had to set up something on the boot files and the thermal management of Linux. It was very difficult so I asked a Linux specialist for help.

Maybe you should do the same just on a Linux forum for help. Guys know a lot and most of the users here don't work with Windows I think ;)

  • Satellite P100-120 overheating running Linux Ubuntu 9.10

    Hello world

I use Ubuntu 9.10 running on a laptop Toshiba Satellite P100-120; I have a problem of overheating and the fan never put to cool my laptop.
Looking around, I found that several models of Toshiba Satellite have the same problem and I found that the only solution work seems to update the DSDT file by exploiting this feature on Linux kernels (kernel argument acpi = off is not a solution).

The problem is that the current Linux kernel of Ubuntu distributions can't take no more (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/395239).
Given that this problem seems to affect many models of Toshiba/people, I don't know that Toshiba has corrected it to a patch of BIOS; is there a reliable to tell me how I can find this patch?
I think that we need a BIOS patch because I tried to read the DSDT and indeed it includes bugs (if compile you it with the compiler Intel as described, you can find them).

    Commands to show bugs:
    sudo cat/proc/acpi/dsdt > dsdt.dat
    sudo iasl d dsdt.dat
    sudo iasl tcs - a.dsl

In the case that Toshiba does not provide a patch, can someone suggest me the reasons (I know that Toshiba is not officially compatible with Linux, but today the Linux community should be accompanied by resellers of computers)?

    Thanks in advance

    > In the case Toshiba does not provide a patch...
That of the problem. Toshiba doesn't support Linux, especially not for this model of laptop, so you have to search solution elsewhere.
Support Linux costs money, and why do we have if the books are not delivered with Linux.

In my opinion the best place to find solution or pickup a few tips useful and info is specialized Linux forums and communities.

  • Satellite L300-1AQ - Fan switches do not properly under Linux

For L300-1AQ, the CPU fan is controlled by the BIOS. When you start the Linux machine against the cold, the fan runs at least as it should. But then nothing happens until the critical temperature is reached. At this point, the CPU fan going at maximum speed and stays there even when the air coming out is still cold. So the only way to make the rotation of the fan down once again is to restart... The startup parameter "acpi_osi =' has no effect."

This isn't a hardware problem, because the fan works well under Windows: slow and steady rotation up in States somewhere between min and max. After a few seconds slow and steady to the low towers.

This could be a roadmap dsdt buggy, which affects only Linux.

Problem is that Toshiba doesn't support this model of laptop for Linux and there is no tool available as Toshiba Power Saver for Windows power management.
Try visiting some Linux forum and discuss it.

On Linux forums, you will find the most useful information or people who might be using the same specifications with the same distribution of Linux.

  • Satellite L300-1AQ - how much of the necessary recovery discs?

    Dear all

I would like to know how many drives recovery requires my laptop L300-1AQ (model number PSLB8E).

I have a disc I made when I bought the computer but I can't start using up to this I make sure that only the disk is necessary (if more than one disk is needed and I begin the process of recovery, I believe that I have will make the computer unusable). I know that recent Toshibas are delivered with several DVDs so it certainly worth my checking before doing anything.

Oh and the recovery partition is gone due to an 'aggressive' installation of linux, so this isn't an option for us (it's the new user is a windows user).

I cannot find this information on the internet or in the manual, so I would be grateful if anyone out there has this information.

    Best wishes to all

    Hi DiodePrridge51b,

Possibly 1 drive only Toshiba recovery disc creator, you need only 1 recovery disk to restore to factory settings.

It s, always according to the model laptop and OS how many records you need, but if only 1 disc was required there s enough and begin the installation of recovery. :)

  • Can satellite L300-1AQ - I use the L300D recovery disk?

My son has a Satellite L300-1AQ equipped of vista. All of a sudden will load is more the laptop and automatic repair options fails too. There is a blue screen that appears, but only for a second when I try the repair option - then the laptop stops. We have no recovery disks.

Also, I have a laptop Satellite L300D-13 s that works well and suppose I could get a drive recovery- but prob diff drivers etc.

Can someone advise me how best to my sons laptop (Im not concerned about retrieving data as all saved already), but do not want to return to the factory settings including Vista. Do not know if using a laptop recovery disk is an option - instinctively is not as ever as simple as that.

    All advice welcome please.

    Hi mate,

I can t imagine that the Satellite L300D recovery disc will work on Satellite L300. The hardware platform is different, because a single machine is equipped with Intel CPU and the other with AMD processor, so there's a big difference.

In addition, in the worst case, it could be a hardware problem and in this case the recovery disk does not work

What can you do now? I think you have to options: either you install Vista from a disk of Microsoft or order you a Toshiba Recovery disk: https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

After installing the Microsoft disc, you can download all the drivers on the Toshiba site. Then you will also get back to factory settings, but it takes more time in the recovery disk because it contains an image which already all the drivers and tools are included/installed.

    I hope I could help a bit. :)

As I see it, * Toshiba Hdd recovery * does not solve your problem. You checked with the other memory, but it always freeze. so, I guess that a hard drive can be a troublemaker. If your laptop is still under warranty, you should contact them (SAV)

  • Toshiba Satellite U500 overheating on Linux

    Hello.

I just installed Fedora 15 on a Toshiba U500 and I noticed that it is very hot - the cpu temperature gets quickly to 80 C + and past often more than 90 c (then just pulled the fan in a few seconds).
I installed lm-sensors and sensors - detect run them, but that did not help.

You have an idea how I can fix this problem?

Have you noticed that using another distribution Linux Ubuntu for example?

I read on some forums that you could add either 'acpi_osi = Linux' or 'lapic' at the command line:

    Follow this:
-Open the /boot/grub/menu.lst with a text editor
-Add one of the above options (check first 'acpi_osi = Linux' then lapic) at the end of the line starting with "kernel".

    Maybe it helps

In addition, you can try to disable Visual effects in Linux

  • Toshiba laptops and overheating with Linux

If you have a Toshiba laptop that seems to be overheating in Linux (like Ubuntu Linux), it is likely that this is due to bad "DSDT tables" (which refers to such things as energy saving) in the laptop.

Each computer has a description of material data that are used by the operating system. In many cases, the DSDT tables have errors that does not allow for Linux make use of powersaving. In addition, some devices may not work because of the bad DSDT. You can check if your DSDT is OK or now by following the instructions at
    http://UbuntuForums.org/showthread.php?t=1036051

You can perform this task even in Windows (extracted from the DSDT from your computer, recompile it and seewhether there are a of errors.) With help, you can easily fix most of the errors and 'install' back the fixed DSDT).

You can google for "toshiba dsdt" and 'toshiba dsdt overheating' case, for example.

    Hi tarafog

Thanks for this useful article. I m watching carefully what you write here, and I'm happy here is someone with a very good knowledge of Linux.
With your help, I think a lot of people's decision made test Linux on Toshiba laptops and try to deal with the new operating system.

    Hello

Firmware update should only be done if you notice problems with the ODD (CD/DVD drive)
In addition the laptop was equipped with various drives and firmware on the Toshiba page seems to be designed only for some some sides.
So if the laptop uses other ODD then the update of the firmware would not be supported.
See more information on the driver page for some details on the update firmware and what are the chances are supported!

I m not very well why the t supervisor password utility could not be installed, but I think that the message: bad series appears that if you tried to install a tool that was not designed for this model of laptop or the operating system.

The L300-1AQ seems to belong to the series PSLB8E and you must ensure that you have chosen the right model on the driver page.

PS: don't forget that the VAP has been installed everything first!

    Install Oracle 11 g 2 on Ubuntu Linux 11.04 (64-bit) Howto
    Install Oracle 11 g 2 on Ubuntu Linux 11.04 (64-bit) Howto

The instructions are for 64-bit Ubuntu and Oracle. Any reason why run you the 32-bit operating system? Unless your current CPU prohibited x86_64 you want to limit your available installation options. You can install 32-bit software on a 64 bit OS, but not the reverse.

Please note that Oracle Enterprise does not officially support Ubuntu. You can think of Oracle Express Edition (XE) making.

    Evenine all,

Thought I should report. My wire earlier this week, re. re-installation of Vista on my laptop L300-1AQ - took the plunge this morning and everything went to plan.

Vista is MUCH faster than XP when re installation, although I noticed on the other partition - D drive - all the information is still there!

What happens if, if you want to COMPLETELY format the HARD drive? How are would approach - what is via the recovery DVDs?

Sorry, but it is not easy to understand.
Can you please explain what your problem is now and what you want now?

What info is on the D partition?

If you format the whole HARD drive everything will be deleted and you must reinstall OS.

  • Satellite L300-1AQ - 9 Will stack need more space?

    Hi someone Genius!

Please can you convert my confusion. My current battery is a unit of 6 in Satellite L300-1AQ. It became dead and hard to sustain for 30 minutes. I decided to replace it and ordered a new 9-cell PA3535U-1BRS battery. Now I am confused like the battery 6 cells is placed inside the rear body frame, battery 9-cell enters this model of laptop even compatibility describes it's OK for my laptop? So should I believe this Declaration of compatibility of Toshiba and stop worrying how my new battery 9 cells will welcome in the space of 6 cell battery?

Cheers in advance and thank you for your confirmtion.
    Year s

    Hello

Yes, probably the battery 9cell need more space under or behind your laptop battery 6 cells, but it should be.

With battery 9-cell, your laptop will get more high, in my view, it will look like on [THIS | http://cdn.slashgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/msi_wind_9-cell_battery_1.jpg] a

But with the battery 9 cells you have longer battery life :)

  • Toshiba, make Linux - Ubuntu drivers for USB bluetooth

Toshiba, please make good Linux - Ubuntu drivers for your USB bluetooth. I was unpleasantly surprised noting that there is no driver available for Ubuntu. Please could someone explain THE reason for such a policy failed to Ubuntu users?

The problem is Ubuntu here. The Bluetooth adapter is directly connected to the USB bus, so it should work without any problems if the OS is delivered with the appropriate software to Bluez. Try to update your Ubuntu installation (apt - get update). Make sure bluez is correctly installed.
