Toshiba laptops and overheating with Linux

If you have a Toshiba laptop that seems to be overheating in Linux (like Ubuntu Linux), it is likely that this is due to bad "DSDT tables" (which refers to such things as energy saving) in the laptop.

Each computer has a description of material data that are used by the operating system. In many cases, the DSDT tables have errors that does not allow for Linux make use of powersaving. In addition, some devices may not work because of the bad DSDT. You can check if your DSDT is OK or now by following the instructions at
http://UbuntuForums.org/showthread.php?t=1036051

You can perform this task even in Windows (extracted from the DSDT from your computer, recompile it and seewhether there are a of errors.) With help, you can easily fix most of the errors and 'install' back the fixed DSDT).

You can google for "toshiba dsdt" and 'toshiba dsdt overheating' case, for example.

I'm a big fan of Toshiba, but it's the last time I buy a Toshiba product. Producing none of Toshiba laptops running Linux? Least toshiba engineers could do is to make sure that a live ubuntu cd works on the laptop, to make sure that the fan starts and check maybe even the graphics driver works. If it's the fault of ubuntu then drop a bug in launchpad. As far as I know, none of the new Toshiba laptops have a fan that works properly, don't waste your money.

  • Toshiba overheating with Linux

    Dear Toshiba

leaving all to AMD/ATI site is shameful for your buyers using linux. It is not linux job to try to make a driver out of their proprietary drivers.

They have already ERASED all the legacy links page for installation of catalyst 13.1, which, at best, would force the user of ubuntu linux to return the path of the core 3.8 back to 2.6... but not even that it is possible. They think that its so old, they erase all PAGES of DIRECTIONS!

I just bought this satellite with AMD Mobility Radeon 3100 rs780 LAST a YEAR and I expect you to take care of your linux - this card users fried the laptop overheating and after owning 3 toshiba satellite, I then won't buy your product because of the lack of support and only sell WINDOWS based laptops.

Don't care when installing AMD/ATI, which does not support linux, you drive your customers away?
Do you care that these offers of manufacturer of component you chose, not allowing support for linux, drive your customers away?

Do you can not select a manufacturer of the graphics card that supports linux only for a few minutes before shooting their 404 error pages?

The world hates Windows systems now, don't you know that?
Mr. Gates is corrupt and thief. Maybe he wants to ruin Toshiba sales.

    >... and I expect you to take care of your linux users
Respect for your opinion, but there are a few facts and in my opinion, it will not change in the future. As you probably know Toshiba doesn't support Linux and doesn t offer any substance for Linux if you can't wait for something like that.

Laptop Toshiba computers are delivered with operating systems Windows and some models without operating system, but they are completely Windows supported.

  • Toshiba L305D-S5881 overheating with Ubuntu Linux 8.0.4

    I have a Toshiba L305D - S5881 AMD Turion X 2 dual core RM70 with Vista installed on it.
I reparted and installed Ubuntu 8.0.4 with dual boot. After reading the forums was able to
to get the wireless working on it as well (Atheros Chipset)... it took some effort.

Then I noticed that the laptop is running abnormally high time. The Ubuntu forum Guys tell me
It is a problem with the dsdt.dsl file used by ACPI. The time to show by/proc/acpi/ThermalZone/temperature
are systematically 65 ° C or above and ever-increasing fan State is constantly off as well and does not seem to
    put on anything.

Is there a fix TOSHIBA for this laptop (IE a BIOS, which will generate the correct dsdt with the Intel compiler)?

If anyone successfully running Ubuntu or another version of linux on this laptop without overheating and
with wireless active, I'd love to hear about it.

    Thank you and best regards

  • Toshiba Satellite U500 overheating on Linux

    Hello.

I just installed Fedora 15 on a Toshiba U500 and I noticed that it is very hot - the cpu temperature gets quickly to 80 C + and past often more than 90 c (then just pulled the fan in a few seconds).
I installed lm-sensors and sensors - detect run them, but that did not help.

You have an idea how I can fix this problem?

Have you noticed that using another distribution Linux Ubuntu for example?

I read on some forums that you could add either 'acpi_osi = Linux' or 'lapic' at the command line:

    Follow this:
-Open the /boot/grub/menu.lst with a text editor
-Add one of the above options (check first 'acpi_osi = Linux' then lapic) at the end of the line starting with "kernel".

    Maybe it helps

In addition, you can try to disable Visual effects in Linux

It's my generic how updates of appropriate driver: you mainly want to update or reinstall the touchpad drivers
and ALSO to get the Toshiba value added Package for your version IF it is there.

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - Device Manager - Display Adapter - note the brand and complete model of your
video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now click on UPdate Driver (this
cannot do anything as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then do a right click - Uninstall - REBOOT
This will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party with their
own the software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now go to the site of the manufacturer of system (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) (restoration) and then of the manufacturer of the device
(Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for the BIOS, Chipset and software)
updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - tab drivers version you install actually shows up. This
because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (particularly that audio drivers) so install a
pilot - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat if necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW on device at the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER - manually check by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

There may be a program that runs in the tray near the clock in the bottom right that controls the
device. Some Toshiba models have the keys of the map at the top of the screen (move the mouse all the way to)
up to see if your model has this feature) which allows control on some devices. Some models
have (usually indicated on the key cards) shortcut keys that control input devices.

If nothing else works, try Control Panel - double - mouse and other pointing devices - devices Manager
Click the device - driver tab - Disable. I would use this as last resort than the other options possible
allow you to activate and deactivate the device much easier.

Hey, I have a laptop of HP 15-d035dx.

Lately I had problems with the sound, which seems to be temperature related, and I wasn't sure whether to put this in the audio or material of the Council.

As you can imagine, it's very frustrating and I have no idea what to do. There is no error message, the system begins just trolling and the programmes concerned are block.

Usually when this happens, I noticed that my camera is unusually hot. Since I bought it, I have never heard or felt the air moving through the vents, so I don't know if the fan doesn't work.
