Crackling on Satellite C870-198

I just got a new Satellite C870-198 and the audio began to Crackle after about a week.

It seems to happen with external speakers, headphones as well as with the speakers on Board (i.e. all the time). Windows 8 has been frustrating me anyway so I installed windows 7 on it, but the problem is still there.

The cracks are more noticeable when the music I play is stronger. I tried to uninstall the sound drivers to try a few different, but they always reinstall themselves whenever I restart. I don't really know what I'm doing. Sometimes it makes a brief gurgling like electronic interference noise or something too.

Any ideas?

To be honest I'm not very well if the issue you described is really a problem of laptop because you said that you've probably noticed the sound of crackling playing loud music of m.
From my point of view, it could be a common behavior in which crisscross loud music.

You are using Windows 7 now.
On the page of the Toshiba UE (Satellite C870 PSCBAE) driver, you can find the audio drivers 3.
Realtek, nVidia, SRS
All drivers must be installed.

In addition, you can find edge settings in Control Panel-> Realtek HD Audio Manager.
Here, you can change the sound properties. Check it out.

I have a Satellite C650-198 running Windows 7 (64-bit) and notice that the size of the 250 GB drive is divided into two main readers of 116 GB each (I accept that the remaining 18 GB is the section of system recovery and have no problem there).

I reinstalled Windows 7 from the recovery on DVD media and would like to know if it's something I did which puts in place the two discs or is it quite normal and intentional?

When you use recovery DVD for the installation of the OS the procedure is always the same:
-the whole HARD disc will be deleted
    -existing partition deleted
    -HARD disk will be formatted
-two new partitions will be created
    -recovery copied image
    -Operating system installed

This will happen again and again every time that you use the recovery DVDs.

Or seen a review on an American site saying that all software pre-installed Toshiba slowing down the operating system.
The site has recommended that a windows clean install to remove all...

Everyone does this, or would you recommend?

Anyone like the software installed and recommend keep it?

    Thank you!!

    > Someone has he done this, or would you recommend?
You always want to use the advanced features like function keys laptop?
If so, don t remove the feature key Toshiba software that controls the keys.

You always want to be informed of updates to the driver through Toshiba Tempro or Toshiba Service Station?
Then don t delete these software

But as far as I know there are also other additional software installed on the laptop.
For example: TOSHIBA, TOSHIBA Eco Utility, TOSHIBA PC Health Monitor, etc.
All of these tools provide additional functionality, it s your decision whether or not you want to use.

Specification of Satellite C870-1JV page shows that you can upgrade the memory up to 8 GB of RAM.

Panel of-> sound-> the Read tab

You see your speakers or headphones here?
If so, make sure that the speakers are marked as the default device.

In addition the combination FN + F11 would turn on and off MUTE.
    Check it!

When two solutions of workaround don t help, uninstall the device high definition audio / controller as well as the audio driver from the Device Manager and restart the computer laptop n.
After restarting again the system should install the uninstalled drivers even more often, this will help you to get the sound.

  • Satellite C870 - 1 H 2 and support for virtualization

    I am (was to) buy a Toshiba Satellite C870 - 1 H 2 (from
The specifications look ideal for me, but at the last moment, I thought to check if VT - x extensions are supported.

I know that the processor supports extensions (as detailed here: []), but I know also that the extensions are often not enabled (or there is no option in the BIOS to enable them).

The expression "Virtualization Technology" (which is present on other pages of the specification) is clearly absent from the plug laptop here: [].
I saw some comments that suggest the Satellite * Pro * series usually provides the support for virtualization, but it always seems to be missing on many current models of Pro's specifications.

I don't know why the C870 would not support VT - x, when we know that his material, but the specifications indicate that this is the case. On the other hand, I found no references to people complaining about the lack of VT - x support.

So my question is, the Satellite C870 - 1 H 2 actually does support VT - x, or not?
(and if not, because it takes just a very small piece of code BIOS, why not?)

    Thank you

    > The same issue applies. These models are supported virtualization

VT support is always depends on the CPU built in Notepad. But you mentioned it in the first post.
According to the page of the Ark from Intel, the Intel Pentium 2020 M processor supports Intel Virtualization Technology (VT - x)

Your problem is a little weird!

Your wireless network card is a BT / WLAN combo and should be supported by the kernel used in openSuse 12.3.
Check the functionality in Windows or any other end Linux distribution?

I would say to download Fedora 19 and run as a direct medium OS to check the operation of BT.
If it works fine, I belive there is a bug in the distro openSuse.
If this isn't the case, I really think you should consider checking your hardware.

I have the same card in my works C850 and BT just perfect in Fedora 19.

    Hope this helps you out

  • Re: Weird sound coming from USB using the Panel mixing Audio on Satellite C870-1EX

So, my sister has Satellite C870-1EX and she uses new Audio Mixer with integrated sound card sends its via USB cable to the computer (computer recognises as external audio device and map). It's the device:

A few weeks ago, she began to notice a very odd sound, sort of high-pitched, whistling, like a very fast electronic beep. Something similar to what good old modems of the internet when they were connected to the phone line, just not a little faster and strong.

First of all, of course, we tested every single setting on the Audio Mixer Panel.
Then, we got new USB cable and it traded.

After that we also took down all the material, checked all cables, if necessary, detangle swapped the power supply, check a different recording software, even tried a few other recording devices USB etc etc.

None of this has helped. The drivers are all there too.

Here's the catch. I used the same equipment with the same settings on my computer and no hissing noise at all. The thing is, any parameter, we tried, only the hiss remains the same, nothing changes.

Even if you apply a few sound effects which should either accentuate or reduce any type of noise in the signal that is sent to the USB port on the computer, this whistling noise remains the same.

What worries me is that something is wrong with the material of my sister's laptop.

The noise does not appear if we use, for example, microphone that uses 3, 5mm taken or the built-in microphone of the laptop during the recording of the commands in the same session with the same software and similar settings (given some must be different because of the different entry).

However, the noise is if we use an external USB recording equipment on any of its ports.

Windows on his laptop were resettled some time ago (now it is on Windows 7), but the problem appeared a few weeks later.
As I said earlier, the drivers are all there and to date as well.

So, I hope that one of you will return with a software sollution (single)... and I hope we will not need to take his computer back to the shop.

However, as it seems now, the last is more likely to occur.
Please, tell me I'm wrong :)

    Thank you!

One of my friends had a similar problem with a DJ controller: Traktor Kontrol S4
There was not a sound, but he noticed a few dropouts stuttering and audio.

The problem was the background processes that were open when you use the controller.
To resolve this problem, it was necessary to disable all possible devices in the device as WLan, LAN, Bluetooth Manager, etc.
In addition, he had to Disable Antivirus software and firewall that was running in the background.

I put t know if it helps you, but I think that its worth a try

Another idea: try to reduce the performance of the processor. This is possible in the Windows 7 power management.
How to manage Windows 7 power management features

Option CPU power management contains the option called the Maximum processor state
Here you can set it to 90% - 80%

So far, I've tested League of legends; works without problem (no update necessary driver)
But it does not even minecraft cause of no openGL acceleration. Which in my opinion is very weird

    Any suggestions?

In your case the situation is quite clear. Your model of laptop has AMD Radeo HD 7610 M GPU inside and last supported driver is always offered on the Toshiba download page. If you have this latest version that s it.

In any case, in the past, several people spoke of trouble with Minecraft. Put Minecraft as a search term in this forum and you will find several interesting discussions. One of them that you can read on

  • Satellite C870-196 - error on some windows update on X 64 processor

Update all the windows are properly except for the 64-bit processor that gives me a different error all the time.

I can't do despite the different means of redress available and I have to turn it off.

Why these mistakes for which I can't find solutions?

    Thank you

To be honest, I don't know what you're talking about.
What error do you mean exactly?

Satellite C870-196 laptop computer supports the processor Intel Celeron B830
Here is the page Intel Ark providing details of the CPU:

The processor supports 64-bit instructions so the processor is supported by orders for 64-bit and the instructions that a microprocessor understands and can carry out.

Preinstalled system was Windows 8 64-bit so I n t see a serious reason why mistakes regarding the CPU should appear.

  • How to remove the upper part of a key on a Satellite C870-C196?

I would like to know if it is possible to remove the upper part of a key on a TOSHIBA Satellite C870 C196 to clean underneath?

I have a button that does not work properly.

How to go without anything break?

Is there a specific tutorial for this projection keyboard how?

    Thanks to you all.

    Kind regards

Tutorial so that it does not exist, but I can say, is that you can remove the plastic cap. It may be problematic to implement.
On older machines, it was quite easy, but on the new laptops equipped with flat keys, it is not so easy. As far as I know that each CAP is fixed with 4 pretty small hat holders must be fixed properly. to put all the 4 instead is not so easy.

I don't know what to say. You can try it, but on the other hand, I don't want to encourage that because you can damage something and in the end, you need to replace the entire keyboard.

If there is a serious problem, you can request the service of Toshiba for advice and ask for help.

  • How to install Win7 on Satellite C870-190?

Hi, I hope I'm posting in the category right forum then...

My laptop is Toshiba Satellite C870-190 and it doesn t want to start my windows 7 CD.
I tried first with the DEL-button that opened the system startup when I start Notepad and then choose the CD-ROM device and do not want to load the CD and then I chose F2, the first unit on the boot to the CD-ROM section, still do not want to load it... the final solution, I tried to install it from the Windows 8 (current operating system) from my computer--> CD--> setup.exe, and then click INSTALL.

My computer laptop doesn t have allowed me to install it even from Windows... on file copy screen to say... and then it gives me an error that says that the operation failed... What is happening with this laptop?

How can I format my HARD drive and then install windows 7?

    Thank you

At the beginning I will say that I hope that you have created a recovery media (DVD or USB) before you have begun to install Win7.

Return to your Win7 installation. A long time ago I installed Win7 on friends U940 and the first stage was changing course startup in the BIOS settings mode -
After the installation Win7 has started successfully, but in my case the SATA driver support was necessary.

Please check first and send comments.
