CS5 Question/problem paragraph Styles

I have a document with a bunch of paragraph styles that use Myriad Pro Regualar as a base style. Whenever I have paste or draw formatted text in shape a different font and slap the paragraph style it select Myriad Pro Italic, rather than ordinary.

I don't see anything wacky passes and never had this behaviour before when I used Helvetica Neue, who did not have any "Regular" face, or has never used the Roman side 55 of it for a base.

This a known issue, I missed?

Slightly OT. Does anyone have a contest to see how they could possibly make these worse forums and more unweildy? My hat is off to the winner. What a labrynthy labyrinth useful to anyone this thing has become.

I guess the first question may be there there a style of character or local formatting applied?

  • Question of paragraph style

    I seem to be having a weird problem with paragraph styles.

    I have a heading style linked to the h1 in big orange text (Tenso Black, pt 24) tag.

    I also have a paragraph style related to the p tag for my body to the black text (Cantarell, 14pt,).

    My question so that, despite the h1 style definition and subsection of style that are obviously not to be completely different, the text always in style h1.  In fact, the image, I enclose below I have removed the completely normal h1 style and the style of tag p (and you can see the style settings clearly Mbbls, black, 14 PT...) but if I highlight text and apply this style turns into orange text (as you can see to the right of the image).

    If I delete the paragraph style (so I have no style), and then type the text in Cantarell, black 14pt, etc., as soon as I save the style to the p, the orange text changes tag.  If I copy the text of the paragraph Canterell in a new text box, it always sticks orange...

    Is this a bug or am I doing something stupid?

    Hello

    Well, I think I've sorted it.  You mentioned character styles, and Yes, there is a defined character style (the text in orange).  It is this style of character that would repeal all paragraph styles.  I deleted the character style and now I can apply and implement paragraph styles.  That said, I've not really (knowingly) implemented this style of character.

    See you soon.

  • Importing Word documents in CS5 - matter of paragraph Style

    Hi, we import Word documents in a model of CS5, removing the Word styles brings (spend a paragraph text or body base) but the text is coming in black 100% when we have defined in InDesign that 80% and then we find that paragraph Styles will not apply properly. Does anyone else have this problem? I tried it get around by copy - paste, but it still does, especially if I copy and paste into a table.
    If you have any ideas as to what's going on would be great.

    Check the window paragraph styles to see if you have local substitutes on the text (click in and see if the name of the style has a + next to him). If so, hold the Option key (Mac OS, maybe the ALT key on Windows) and click on the style name. That will erase the replacements the. You can also do the fly of the styles window.

    If you've already tried this, check the window character styles. Character styles will change the look of the paragraph styles, but they do not trigger the replacements the + indicator, because they are not considered to be a local override. You can apply the no character style if that's what the problem is, but it will apply to the text that you selected, unlike paragraph styles, where all you have to do is click in a paragraph.

  • Question of paragraph styles

    I'm missing something obvious. I wrote a style that also has a 'next' style associated with him. But when I activate this style for certain paragraphs in the text, only the first paragraph enters the first style, and the following paragraph is not in the following style. In fact, only the first paragraph goes into style - nothing in the text is affected at all. According to me, Miss me just something. Thank you.

    Select all text and then in the paragraph styles Panel, right-click the first style paragraph and choose apply style and the next.

  • paragraph style - style following

    .......................................................................................... ..

    Hello!

    I have a question for paragraph styles.

    For the design of a book, I get a lot of text unformatted from different people. Now, cause I need styles for different cases. One of these is a question-answer-style (interview-> see picture below). Normally you create a paragraph style with the possibility of having, after pressing RETURN, another style (I think in English, you must 'use the following style'). Well, my problem is that it does THAT when I start typing the text word for word in Indesign a push BACK and go on typing... That s not what I want. My idea was to copy an paste the entire text of the word (or anywhere where) to Indesign and give´em the style it needs.

    Doesn´t it works somehow? With "nested styles" it doesn't. You can do as a "soft break" to use the following style. So I have to insert one by one after each paragraph. Not so ...

    .......................................................................................... ..

Wieso? Wie kann man das hinbekommen, if necessary. Alternativ?

    You can still use the following style for the rotation between the styles on a block of text. Select all the text that should be the title, and then open the Panel Styles paragraph and right click on the name of the style to be applied to the first paragraph. In the context menu, choose apply and following Style.

  • Application of paragraph style problem and adding page breaks

    I work on the formatting of a novel in InDesign.   I met two problems.   The first of them is to apply a paragraph style to a specific paragraph.  Every time I try the paragraph in question shows a '+' after the style in question and will not apply the style.   I know that the sign '+' means that the style changes were made but I want to apply the style as it was before those changes were made and InDesign doesn't let me.

    The second problem concerns export ePub.   I inserted page breaks in some places inside the InDesign file, but when I export to ePub, the export process ignores the page breaks.  I know that I deal with text content may be but I don't want my scene headers (chapter) appears at the bottom of a page in the ePub.

    Thank you

    Command-click to erase the wrinkles too.

    Re page breaks, in the paragraph style for the scene (chapter) headings, try to tick in the paragraph Options of Style, tab Panel Options export, Split Document (ePub only).

    I can't remember, but you will need to check the document page can be Split in the EPUB - export of content Options. (see below).

    (Is there a forum for InDesign ePub).

  • Problem with paragraph styles.

    Hello

    I'm having a problem with a site paragraph styles. I created and applied h1, h2 tags etc. to help SEO and everything seemed to work very well so I went to other areas of the site. To revise accordingly the site I decided I want to change some of the tags, however paragraph styles, I created have disappeared since the paragraph style window.

    The problem I have now is that when I write the site the tags are still there in the html code. Is there a way to restore the paragraph currently on a site styles in the paragraph styles selection window?

    Thank you

  • Problem affecting the existing paragraph style

    Hi all!

    I have searched all morning and can't find a lot of good documentation on the use of existing scripts paragraph styles to HAVE. I know that you can build a live, but more specifically, I want to add in the tabs and don't see this as an option to add paragraph styles in one of the refs to javascript.

    I do an "export log" that captures the version, date, time, artist name/layers assigned to help our team of quality control. My problem is that any new text added to the box ignores existing paragraph styles, and I do not see so he can apply what I have in the file.

    I can find the style, so I don't know it exists, and I can also draw the text box, so I think that these paths are correct and working, it's just the applyTo seemingly does not. Here is my code below:

    //get the textBox with the sign off content
    exportLogText = docRef.textFrames.getByName("RT_Signoff");
    //add the sign off text
    exportLogText.contents += "v. " + versionLetter + "\t" + theDate + "\t" + timeStamp + "\tExport by: " + username + "\tLayers: " + layersExported;
    exportLogText.contents += "\r"
    //identify the "Export_Log" paragraph style that already exists in the AI doc
    var paraStyle = docRef.paragraphStyles.getByName("Export_Log");
    for (ps = 0; ps < exportLogText.paragraphs.length; ps++){
        paraStyle.applyTo(exportLogText.paragraphs[ps], true);
    }
    redraw();

    Once it hits the applyTo line, the script stops. I found similar posts claiming this code should work, so I don't know what I'm missing! Any help is appreciated.

    I found a similar code here:a paragraph style for blocks of text in the document

    It's really a matter of aesthetics, but I can't stand the text to look like this:

    issue1.PNG

    When he could look like this!

    issue2.PNG

    Looks like it was a problem with my file which was causing the anomaly, not the script. Things seem to be working now! Thanks for the input guys!

  • Color of the paragraph Styles is not overridden CS5.5.

    I have some documents and I have a few Styles to paragraph (PStyles) I load in the latest documents.

    I have some who are in fact PStyles within a Table. 2 small problems; I can live with the first:

    1. It does not actually load the PStyle formatted correctly;
    2. Once I have format the PStyle as I want, the PStyle coloring does not replace the text that I assign. For example I have orange text, I then choose PStyle 1 (orange), the font is changed to the correct font type but the color does not change.

    It is certainly a fault?

    Make sure that all of the text in the paragraph of style [none] has also defined as the style of his character. You could have a paragraph style with the filling of text defined on orange and a character style with a black fill applied to all the words in the paragraph. In this case, the text would be black.

    Alternatively, you can substitute the paragraph styles. If this is the case when the text is selected, a + sign appears in the paragraph Styles Panel, next to the name of the style.

  • Problems with character and paragraph styles!

    Hello

    I have a problem to inDesign that I don't normally.

    (I work on a macbook pro)

    I'm adding a text in a template document. I have two character styles and the paragraphstyles.

    This is how I work:

    I place my text I have the text box. (placing a word document) First I get all of the italicized words in the text placed and they give a character style: italic. Then, I want to give a definition to the whole text. It is a 'regular' from the same font of type version. When I do that, all of the text get this pink-ish marking meens that the text has not been completely changed the style AND a little plus (+) next to the paragraph style accurs. Normally I just press alternative (alt) as I click the paragraph style and thus cancels the problem. BUT when I do that now all the text becomes italic - witch is not in the selected paragraph style. Why?

    I'm really lost how can I solve this problem - I don't want to create a new document because it is a model that I use each month for a magazine and normally it works.

    Would be - this code in the word document? Or what?

    Thank you!

    best,

    Sara

    Create your paragraph style

    Paste your text

    Run the Script PrepText

    http://InDesignSecrets.com/free-scripts-help-fix-Word-formatting.php

    This will apply/create character styles etc. italic, bold in all the text that you pasted in this text.

    Select all of your text - and click the clear button the replacements at the bottom of the paragraph Style Panel.

  • Problems with paragraph styles in CS4?

    Let me start by saying that I recently switched from Quark, so I'm really a newbie in InDesign. I was watching videos as much as possible, but can't seem to find the answers to questions like that.

    I've been taking the old brochures that have been created in ID3 and sticky type and pictures in a new format that has been created in ID4. The new format has already created with the update fonts and other formatting paragraph styles as well.

    When I circulate in all the new type and click the style sheet, it does not change the correct font type and size, but there is in the paragraph of formats that are not updated. For example: the whole paragraph (according to the applied style) should be the book of Gotham, but even after you apply the style to it, part of it remains "BOLD" Gotham. He has been "BOLD" in the previous version of the document, but must be regular in this one.

    Why, when I apply the style, it does not the whole paragraph?

    I can think of a few possibilities, but the I would like to write specific instructions vary from one case to another. The find/replace menu is invaluable here. I could find everything he scored with a given character style and replace [none], replace by other layout specified shape or replace with a different character style that I could then remove. Note that when you delete a character style, you can choose to replace it with a different style of character or to preserve formatting after the character style has disappeared.

  • Problem with styles of framework and the paragraph of text

    I have a book with a number of documents in it. In one of the documents, there is a problem with blocks of text and paragraph styles. When I create a new text frame, text in it and apply a paragraph style, the style does not apply correctly. Elements of applied and others do not. For example, bullets and numbered lists apply but italic, and font size are not. It only happens with new blocks of text, and the oldest work very well.

    This does not happen in other documents, just one.

    The book is properly synchronized and synchronization options include all options.

    Check your panels styles, paragraph, character and the object with nothing selected. If there is an already established style name, and I think that it would be in the Panel character styles, that's your problem.

  • Problem of paragraph Styles

    I made a mistake. When creating new paragraph Styles, I did not notice that InDesign automatically adds a parameter ' based on ' on its own logic, although more precisely, I clicked on the icon "create a new Style".

    Now I can't change settings (fine adjustment) of a Style, because it affects the others. Is there a way I can "decouple" all relationships between all the paragraph Styles, while having them retain their characteristics of current, regardless if they are inherited or original.

    Yes - you should be able to replace the value "based on" [no paragraph Style] and it will keep your settings.

    Kind regards

  • Paragraph styles question: is it me?

    Whenever I create or even try to apply a paragraph style in the ID, despite the size of the font, I indicated in the style, and whatever style I choose, my fonts appear on the page as 24 points. I tried to delete styles and start again, but no luck. It's stopping me from using paragraph styles and forces me to use manual formatting everything until I get this fixed. Could sure use some help!

    Check your character Styles palette. There must be a character active 24pt style. (By design) character styles replace paragraph styles. Character change none style, and that should fix.

    Hello

    This looks like a bug. We will fix it in the next public release. In the meantime, you need to specify the meaning to the elements of the list directly instead of using a paragraph style.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.
