  Having difficulties to locate the source of these 3 files to manually add their return.  Any ideas would be very appreciated

  Go to start / all programs / accessories / command prompt and right click on command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

  While in the command prompt, type chkdsk /f /r and enter and let it run.  They tried to set itself to run at the next reboot.   Answer Yes and restart to run the program.  It will scan and attempt to resolve any corruption or bad sectors on your hard drive and remove especially as a potential cause.  These files can be damaged and this may correct this or it may delete them but it will solve the problem of corruption.  Once finished, return to the command prompt the same way as before.

  Type c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll regsrv32 and enter.

  Type c:\windows\system32\wuapi.dll regsrv32 and enter.

  Type in regsrv32 c:\windows\system32\wucltux.dll and enter.

  If this works, you should get no error message - in the case against these files cannot be re-registered (or they are not present at all to do).

  Then close command prompt and reboot.  See if that solves the problem (he again registers the DLL files which is not the same thing as their replacement, but can have the same impact on the problem).

  If this does not work, I don't know where to find these files (I assumed that the DLL files are relevant - I don't understand the rest).  They may be on an Installation of Vista genuine disc.  If so, they can be extracted as follows:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/261616-extract-files-vista-installation-dvd.html.  An important consideration is that, even if we find and extract them, I don't know where, in the operating system, they belong (which folder) - but perhaps we can understand it if we do and we get this far.

  Then I tried the above and was not yet able to apply SP1 and performs product analysis tool always the same results.  I was able to locate the DVD system for laptop recovery and just do a complete reinstall.  Immediately applied the SP1 and SP2 and I hope it will be no more problems with this OS.

  Tried to do an upgrade inplace for Win 7, but the software did not allow (I think because Win 7 DVD is not SP1, but the target system has been updated to Win 7 SP1

  Many prefer not to have to do a complete from scratch, install as I don't want to spend 6 to 8 hours of my life.

  Thank you Aaron.  I've seen some other posts like the one you posted, but I opted to do a reinstall.  I am already in the process.  Just another day in my life offered to Microsoft!  If the upgrade in place works, I should be fine.  Cross your fingers...  And thanks for your help.  I'm pretty technical, but this should never be this painful for a mass-produced product.

  A digital ID (a P12 or PFX file) consists of three parts; a public key certificate, the public key and the private key. The public key certificate (PKC) corresponds to the text part you see in a certificate Viewer and contains stuff like (aka the subject) user name, issuer name, validity dates, serial number. etc. The two keys (public and private) have a symbiotic when you a key blocking (crypt) only the other keys can unlock (decrypt). Each key can be used to block (encrypt) data, but if it serves the data needs to be unlocked (decrypted) with the other key.

  If the file does not contain the private key, but comes of PKC public key and which are known as a certificate file. Certificate files can be shared with the world, where as ID digital file can only be used by one person. A certificate file can be viewed by anyone, but a digital ID file is password protected or PIN.

  That said, when it comes to encrypt a PDF file using the security certificate file is encrypted using one or more certificate files, and the certificate file is used. However, Acrobat asks the user to choose their own digital ID to use in order to prevent their locking out of the file during the encryption process. Actually Acrobat only want access to the part of the public key of the file for the encryption process, but it asks the user to select their digital ID to start. You can choose to not use your own digital ID and go to the part where you select it the recipients public key certificate, and if you know you can select your own, but when the time comes to enter the file you must have the private key to decrypt the file and this means that you should have access to the digital ID file. It does not make much sense that encrypt you the file for yourself and have not already loaded digital ID.
