  Rar is a compressed, identical to zip file. You must decompress, using an application like winzip or winrar, then according to what file type it is you should be able to play.   I really appreciate that come back you to me then quickley. It seems that I took the lead for good help. I kept exploring and stumbled upon the answer myself. Seems when I downloaded the drivers compatible w7, I have no drivers directx or direct3d right here. Once I had those installed, everything straightened and media center works as it should, all video files play much better and even much less agitated got streaming. Thanks anyway and I will seek for your help once again in the future. I share a DSL with someoneelse so until we get a router, we need to keep swapping cables so am not always online.

  However, after an update to Win 8 Pro with the Media Center Pack, I can't Windows Media Center on my xbox 360 to play all files. All files (audio & video) are visible, but they refuse to play and generate errors such as:

  Files needed to display video are not installed or do not work properly. Restart Windows Media Center or restart the computer

  None of the options above worked.

  A homegroup is set up, I'm on a private network, network discovery and file sharing & printer are on and I can see the Xbox and its Media Center Extender devices & Printers.

  Everything is shared. My 2 drives have been set to 'Share' for all records to the breast.

  I can play the files in WMC perfectly on my PC.

  What I've seen, this is the event logs to complain about digital rights management

  When the PC is new, he has played these files correctly. And no, I'm not clear when this fault is developed, so I can not attach to a particular event.
