  5.5 Captivate project.  When I choose any image in this project to add an effect, will display the window of the effect but it is completely empty.  No functionality on the screen at all.

  I guess you already tried to change workspaces, there is a workspace effects but doubt it will solve your problem?

  Because you do not see what in the Panel, you can't even go to the effects folder. First try to clear the cache of the Captivate (preferences, General settings).

  Even this will not help I think, but worth a try.

  Next step is to close the Captivate and delete the Preferences file. This folder is located in your profile, and that depends on the OS. It is labeled Captivate 5.5. On my laptop Win7 it is in this way:

  \Users\\Appdata\Local\Adobe

  You can safely remove the whole folder of Captivate 5.5 it (attention: this is a system file, so you may need to change the settings for Explorer because normally it is hidden). You will lose all customizations.  When you restart Captivate will create a fresh folder with the default settings and there is good chance you retrieve your effects Panel.

• Tips on creating my own widget Captivate of a Flash component

  I am a reasonably experienced Flash developer, now having to use Captivate.  In order to emulate certain features of the software to an exercise, I need to create a ComboBox (what Captivate appoints a 'widget' and Flash calls a "component").  The combo that comes with Captivate is very different in appearance than I have to borrow, and isn't sufficiently customizable - in particular, I can't find a way to make the wider real drop list and remove the gray outline around each selection.  I was able to customize the ComboBox Flash to my needs in maybe three minutes.

  So, can someone point me towards a more customizable widget free combobox for Captivate, or article/tutorial on creating a Captivate widget, with emphasis on exposure of the user's selection as a Captivate variable for the Captivate movie script?

  Hi Carl,

  Captivate widgets are actually created and developed from flash itself, if you have a good understanding of actionscript so you should if all goes well able to change and bring your own.

  You can access the source code for all of the Widgets provided in the directory program files of Captivate. You probably want to take a look at the Combobox widget, which you can find here:

  Files\Adobe\Adobe captivate 4\Gallery\Widgets\More\ComboBox_AS3.wdgt

  There is a version for AS2 and AS3.

  I haven't played with this widget, but I imagine you could hopefully just reskin clips or modify the code so that it uses the Flash components rather than customized to achieve your results.

  In addition, if you are familiar with coding AS3 and want to create your own widgets from scratch on edit an existing, I suggest strongly that you discover the Widget factory API. This is a huge improvement on the examples of default Captivate widget and is much easier to use.

• Is it possible to add the text to speech (TTS) for slidelets individual or other objects 'pop-up '?

  So now, I have a slide with several slidelets "pop-up". Finally I intend to add human speech at each of these slidelets (under the tab Audio caption text), but at the moment (for demonstration purposes), I would like to use the text-to-speech (TTS).

  The only type of TTS option that seems to be allowed is at the level of the slide, but not inside a text caption... This seems odd.

  Speaking of weird, speech management feature and Audio seem all too weird or very limited features. The management of the speech seems to only read the text inserted by entering the slide. No other options are available.

  I know that I could save the speech as individual wave files and insert them through the Audio tab, but... It then, I thought that it would be an easier way to use the TTS in Captivate 4.

  Can I buy a clue?

  TTS works at the level of the slide. Best bet is to insert a blank slide. Add notes. Convert to speech. Then, find and rename the file to preserve you. Rinse and repeat as needed until all TTS was created. Now, they should be in the library where you can freely assign them to everything that you need.

• Notes slide disappear at the end of the slide

  Thanks in advance to have a look at the following question:

  I am using Captivate 5 on Mac. Especially with speech synthesis. TTS works very well. It's the score of the slide. With skin controls I can switch between show and not the note of the slide presentation. But at the end of the slide, notes disappear. I need to stay, for learners can read the text, as long as they want. I tried to stop the slide with a button, but the note continues to be carried out. Otherwise, I created the individual buttons on a slide for the show and the other to hide a text caption. Works fine, but the slide without the option to stop progress. Next alternative is to use advanced actions. That works very well to show and hide the text, but there is a lot of work for all slides. Is there a better way? Ideally, I would like to use the skin, toggle the button show-no view, and the text remains at the end of the slide.

  Side note: the neospeech and loquendo TTS are great. I would hope that Adobe offers more licenses speech soon.

  Just right click on the layer of the audio file of any slide with audio and select subtitling in the context menu.  In Cp5 there is also a button for captioning on the slide Notes tab.  If you selected slide Notes text CC, this button should be active.

  You need to break lines of text, as shown in the slide Notes Panel.  You will need to use some trial and error to find how many words you can fit on a single line with your specific font settings.  The timing is completely controlled in the Audio dialog box slide by dragging the markers for each line of text is displayed.  These markers determine where on the audio track each line appears in the CC text panel during execution.

  Help documentation is (at least) very incomplete and not up-to-date in many pages.

  What you want to customize? You can convert a free form of each shape and edit points. If it is not free, many forms have yellow dots to make a first edition in the form. You can style a form with the properties panel. It can be both functional and a container of text and a button. It has 3 States, and unlike old buttons, you can change the label of each State. Take a look at this article, where you will see custom forms (style).

• Captivate 9 - TTS Audio does not play on some slides when published but times normally in Captivate.

  Export to SWF and display in Win7/Chrome.

  Seems to be a problem mainly when I have slides with tts audio beyond 15-20 seconds or so...

  I've seen similar assignments to it but especially for Captivate 6.

  For posterity, it seems that having some slides for a period of 1/10 second causes problems with audio in the SWF player. Increasing duration of all the slides to the minus 3/10 second seams have solved the problem.

  I just installed 8 Captivate. I want to customize the workspace, but I can't save my settings. The option that describes the help file (window > > Workspace > > new workspace) is not in my version of the software. I see is the workspace > > Reset "Classic".

• Captivate 4 TTS Audio plays is not in published or ok in edit preview

  While watching my notices, project audio played on 5 of my 70 slides. (It worked fine before). He played Ok edit but not sound in preview or published. I tried to replace the audio using the button convert TTS and audio would replace the audio previous. Even remove the audio and dragging the new audio to the timeline would not work. I reinstalled Captivate 4 and TTS and it seems to work again a new projects, but I can't seem to fix my current project. Someone can tell if I can fix these slides, or have I damaged somehow these slides? This is a great project.  Thanks in advance

  If I've ever seen a questionable behavior like that on a slide and is not easily resolved with a reboot or publish again, I just re-create the slide and remove the 'old'.  It is often much faster to do so than the mud around trying to fix them.  If there is corruption on a slide, you don't want anywhere in your project.

• Captivate 8 customize quiz results message

  Hello

  I was given a Captivate file and I need to translate everything for the French. I translated everything, with the exception of a single message on the results of the quiz screen. When the user fails there is a message that displays "Sorry, you failed the quiz" and I need to translate it. I looked everywhere but can't seem to find where to update this message, including under the menu Preferences of Quiz.

  How can I change this sentence? What is a variable that controls the message here?

• Customize the models of questionnaires of captivate radio buttons

  I am developing an e-learning course with Captivate 8 and I have a problem with models of questionnaires. I used to make all my quiz "handmade" in the software I used before Captivate (Lectora inspired), using advanced actions and user variables.

  I decided to use Captivate pre-made quizzes, because they are very easy to use and quick to install. However, I can't find a way to change the ugly radio buttons to select responses.

  I spoke with the Captivate support team and they told me it is built in and cannot be modified. So I thought to locate the png option buttons and replace them with my buttons png.

  After restart of Captivate, nothing has changed, the radio buttons are still there, even if I were replaced in the file (captivate/HTML/assets/htmlimages/radiobuttons.png) with the exact same names.

  Does anyone have an idea on how to do it?

  You are the publication in HTML format?  It only works for HTML output, no SWF.

• Captivate 8 - is possible to customize quiz review slides?

  Does anyone know where should I go to if I want to change the display of the quiz review slides? I would like to change the look of 'x' and check marks. Is it possible to do? As I couldn't find it in the master slides.

  You can do this with "External learners." The default configuration for a group of learners external includes branding imagery - which, as I recall it then appears in the upper-right corner when connecting external learners. (Its pretty simple - simply the org name and icon)

  For clarity, you can also define catalogs separated - and allow access based on any major parameter / filter - individuals, groups, etc. to one or all catalogs (collections of course) and of course can include courses in several catalogs. This however isn't independently "skinnable - brandable in that time. If this is the kind of brand / looking for counting - I encourage you to add details here or in an email with the subject request improvement to [email protected] - skinning / branding is a major feature upgrade scheduled for June - so now is a great time to these requests.

• How to increase the red box Captivate for simulation software and the video demo?

  Can someone let me know if there is a way to increase the size of the red zone. As you can see on the screenshot, even if I chose "align the window' the red zone is not able to cover the whole screen I want to capture. I checked the Adobe help site https://helpx.adobe.com/captivate/using/record-software-simulations.html and looks like I could pick screen or application and there area, customize the size, but I do not see these options in my Captivate. I would be really grateful to everyone who looks at this problem! Thank you!  

  

  Yes, you will need to save this as a separate file, nationally (with loss of quality, always!) this project at the same resolution as the current project. After that, you will be able to copy and paste slides recorded to the existing project. The pages that you were talking about were on a new software simulation project.
