Customize the virtual machine guest operating system crashes

I'll put a guest operating system XP very basic in a pool of utter connected auto. After a good market the checklist in the admin manual the pool begins to create guests. When he got to the customization step machine virtual guest operating system, it failed. The error was:

A specified parameter was not correct.

No idea what this means and how to fix it?

Hi dTardis,

Using special characters in the hostname?

Good luck.

  • Cannot start the virtual machine guest after receiving "License expired message" host ESXi 5.5

    I can't start computer virtual invited after receiving "License expired message" 5.5 ESXi host. I am able to copy the vm folder prompted with all its files using WinSCP I had already installed on a desktop computer in the network.

    However, it takes an extremely long time to download the VM [2.5 mb/s], which is of course a different question.

    It seems that I was still on the trial with my vsphere client license, until it expired. I am able to view the virtual machine within the workstation 10, but I can't turn it on. It says "Please install a license to power on this computer" there is no way to install a license anywhere.

    My question is... .will I be able to access this virtual machine if I download on an external hard drive, then add it to 10 VMWorkstation that I possess a current valid license?

    Even if the evaluation license has expired, you should be able to connect to the ESXi host using the vSphere Client and follow the steps mentioned in the article that I posted before you enter the free license key.

  • Access to the operation of the virtual machine guest inside the work-6: 5 on the Internet

    Hi friends,

    I can access virtual (guest computers) running in VMware Workstation 6.5 - 7 on the Internet with vnc viewer? OR with another method.

    Means I want to VM is accessible on the Internet either through "mstsc" (RDP) or "vnc viewer" / If there is another way to do it then pl can help me... "."

    Rishi Sharma | MCSA (Messaging), MCSE, RHCE, virtualization

    The free is enough, just register, install Logmein, add your virtual machine to your account and immediately, you can manage your VM via internet from anywhere. But of course, Pro version included more features. See the comparison

    If you want something more technical, then get:

    (Internet-> IP / domain-> router-> VM)

    1 - IP (dynamic IP use freedns.afraid.org to resolve the field fixed

    2 - port forward on your router for RDP / VNC port to your internal VM (use to recommend different port)

    Note: To add a kind of secure access to your rdp/vnc connection, you can use "openvpn". To do this, you need to port your VPN port forward rather RDP/VNC port so lazy to install, you get just appliance here openvpn server and run it from your desktop/server VMware.

  • Virtual machines by operating system in data center

    Hello people,

    I'm trying to write a script that totals VMs in a datacenter by operating system. Here's what I have so far:

    Get-vm-location (get-data center-name "DC1"). %{

    $totals [$_] ExtensionData.Config.guestFullName] ++

    }

    $totals

    This works for the DC1 datacenter, but what do I do if I want to collect totals for all data in my vCenter centers? I would also like to export the data to html format, so that it can be read as a report in a browser.

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Rob

    You could do something like that to get a report for each datacenter

    foreach($dc in Get-Datacenter){
      Get-VM -Location $dc |
      Group-Object -Property {$_.ExtensionData.Config.guestFullName} | %{
        Select -InputObject $_ -Property @{N="Datacenter";E={$dc.Name}},Name,@{N="Count";E={$_.Group | Measure-Object | Select -ExpandProperty Count}}
      }
    }

    I'm a beginner to learn vm.

    Then, I want to change it.

    (1) change the name

    (2) change the number of the processor

    (3) change the size of the memory

    (4) change the size of the disk

    How to do?

    I use c# API. I put something when clone?

    Thanks for any help!

    Hello

    You can clone the virtual computer to a model first and then deploy it to this model. For customizing the properties of guest operating system, you can use sysprep (from Microsoft) or customization Spesification Manager (from VMware vCenter Server). Of course, you can also configure it manually change settings menu (from vSphere Client).

  • VMI customer - guest operating system listing changes randomly

    Just curious to know if anyone has noticed this:

    In the Client of VMI, randomly changes the list of guest operating system.  In my case I see that MS Windows 2008 64-bit randomly change for MS Vista 64-bit.  If you check thesettings for the virtual machine, it registers the correct operating system.  Nothing seems to be affected, just a bug is interesting.

    If seen this as well... Some of our boxes as well under Vista report W2k8.  This will not affect your VM, just a step a helpful Visual.

  • Trouble entering the Configuration Page of the BIOS to start the virtual machine by key pressing (F2).

    To start the virtual machine guest OS (Win XP), I want to enter BIOS, by key configuration page by pressing "F2", to change the order of boot options.

    But the initial startup if page flashes quickly, so that I don't get time to press 'F2', most of the time.

    The problem is exasperated because my press F2 is not taken initially without first mouse clicking, somehere in the start page.

    So the order of actions is

    b click the mouse on the settings window, so as he prepares to receive the keystrokes.

    (b) and press 'F2 '.

    Before these two actions are completed, pages flashes by so quickly.

    Anyone can suggest a quick and easy solution for this?

    Hello.

    You can manually edit the. VMX file to the virtual machine and add the following line:

    bios.bootDelay = "5000".

    for a period of 5 seconds.

    Good luck!

    Did you recently patch your VM? Looks like when the guest operating system runs the incorrect commands that it can have a deactivated processor.

    People,

    Hello. I use 3 Player VM and Guest OS Windows Server 2003. The host OS is Windows 7. I need to increase the size of the VM disk, so who can install several systems in the guest OS. If something bad happens during the expansion of the size of the virtual disk, the guest operating system and its Applications will not work. Thus, before expanding the size of the virtual disk, I need to back up the virtual machine hard disk external.

    I have check the disk hard host operating system Windows 7, the path is C:\VirtualMachine\WindowsServer2003\... When I get to the top of the virtual machine on the external hard drive, simply select the 'VirtualMachine' folder and save automatically. I have 3 questions as follows:

    First of all, if something bad happens during the expansion of the size of the virtual disk, the guest operating system and its Applications do not work. Can I just delete the folder 'VirtualMachine' in the host operating system?

    Secondly, the problem of the first question does not affect files in the physical hard disk to host operating system?

    Third, if something wrong happens during expand the size of the virtual disk of OS guest, I simply delete the folder 'VirtualMachine' in the host operating system and load the original 'VirtualMachine' from the external hard drive in the host operating system. Yes.

    That's right, as long as you have not added and other virtual disks of different folders on the host of the virtual machine, you can probably did not.

    After developing the size of the virtual disk, you must also change the size of the partition in the guest operating system.

  • I can crash any server ESXi 4.1 of the guest operating system

    Two months we went from ESXi 3.5 to 4.1. All servers are 320173 construction, all the virtual machines have the latest VMware tools installed. Among several hundred other reviews dare, we have 4 very old virtual machines, using SuSE Linux 8.x or 9.x with kernel 2.4. They are the remains of our stone age, but they work well and do their job.

    When I have one of these virtual machines, stop everything ist fine.

    When I boot these VMs upward once again, everything is fine.

    But when I restart one of these virtual machines, the ESXi host crashes with all other virtual machines on it!

    The usual image on the console remains the same, but it will not answer strikes more. Also, it does not ping, you can not connect you SSH or vSphere Client - nothing. She is completely blocked. The only options are the key reset or power button.

    He will not make a difference, if you issue restarts the VM inside the os, as/sbin/reboot, or will it deliver you from vSphere Client with "Restart Guest". The result is always the same: a total crash of the whole army - and of course all other virtual machines on it.

    We do not really know, if accidents are due to the fact, that these virtual machines use the old 2.4 kernel or some other problem. But those 4 virtual machines are the only ones that could damage the VMware host and they also are the only ones we have with the 2.4 kernel. + 100 other guests Linux with kernel 2.6 work as well as before with ESXi 3.5.

    During this time we could improve (restore) 2 of these virtual machines with a modern with kernel 2.6 Linux. No problem with their reboot more. But the other 2 use old software that is not available for moden more Linux distributions. We have yet no work around. One of the remaining VMS cravings to restart last night and crashed the server [it's 07:00 right now in Vienna] and SMS alerts woke me out of bed about two hours ago.

    Anyone else have these problems?

    Everyone maybe there one alternative that "install a modern operating system"?

    Thank you!

    A shot in the dark, but have you tried to update your tools from VMware and the upgrade to vHardware 7 on those virtual machines?

  • no storage device found more by guest operating system installation on a virtual machine

    Hello

    I'm trying to install a guest on a new virtual machine operating system, but I can't go forward.

    I use a Dell PowerEdge 2850 , the hypervisor Server VMware ESXi 3.5 update 3 and the VMware Infrastructure Client on my computer with operating system Windows XP host.

    I am able to create a new virtual machine, but also to start on a cd for installing a guest operating system, which is (still) of Windows XP. During the installation-Setup asks me to press on enter for a new installation, the next thing is a screen with the message that Setup cannot find any storage device! It's weird, because I use the same as other data store created vm is imposed and other virtual machines always work. I created the new virtual machine several times and deleted, this is no problem. I restarted the server, but that did not help.

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    I also met this problem with a fresh install of XP VM.  Windows XP does not have a driver for the BusLogic or free storage controller... without that driver, only the virtual controller is not

    recognized and drives are not found.
