Customizing desktop user account

I want to remove icons from desktop user accounts, but not from the position of administrative connection. How do I configure this? How to do that a permanent change so when added to the admin login programs icons are not added to all other desktop user?

Please specify your question. The changes you describe were made in response to user input. There is no setting in itself that does what you are looking for. Frequently the previous versions of Windows do not have the software for all users except written specifically to do this, something that caused a lot of problems and complaints, even if he wasn't really a Windows problem (it had to do with the way in which the installation package was written by the Publisher of the software).

Basically, to answer your second question, you would have to do the part of the icon on the desktop to prevent a user to manipulate and affecting all users defined by the user.

Sorry for the long question. The issue is that totally impossible to install Firefox 9.0.1, so it can be used by the two user accounts on this desktop computer. I tried several times to download the update and install when running the second user account. It does not seem to install - page 'About' Watch 'Apply Update' - which then seems to do nothing. When I go to the primary account user Firefox is fully installed and functional.

If files have already been downloaded, then delete the files in the folder of updates\0 and updates or you need to run Firefox once as administrator on each account where the files for the update has been downloaded.

You can also remove active - update.xml, or even updates.xml (stores the history of update).

  • All user accounts Windows XPrestricted open all of a sudden 'Map network drive' by clicking on the desktop and the "research" by clicking on any folder

    Hello

you have a problem with my Windows laptop that left me speechless.

I would really appreciate if someone could provide a solution or any ideas where to start fixing this, as I get close to return to the previous backup full system, but reluctant to do so as I have never done it before so I'm worried if it really works as supposed (Macrium and Ping).

    1. description of the problem

All users of Windows XP (SP3) restricted accounts open all of a sudden 'Map network drive' by clicking on the desktop and the "research" by clicking on any folder, including My Documents.

However, all accounts administrator work as before and also user accounts work like so usual, they are included in the Administrators group, with respect to the clicks of the workstation and records.

In addition, the correct icons for 'Drive' and 'Record' are visible when connected as long as administrator but lacking when logged as long as user restricted when you check the file associations by "open the folder and then click on Folder Options in the Tools menu.» Click the registry file types list. »

    2 solution unsuccessful attempts

    2. google and tried the solution to manually change the registry entries from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321186

    "
Start the editor of the register (Regedt32.exe).
Look for, and then click the default value under the following registry keys if this problem occurs with folders:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell
If this problem occurs with drives:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell
Click on edit in the Edit menu.
Type 0 in the value data box, and then click OK.
    Exit the registry editor.
    "

(Fixit associated meanings has also not working for some reason, says that the Windows Installer does not run, don't know if the same problem...)

    2B. and then also tried the fix "regsvr32 /i shell32.dll" at http://blog.chron.com/helpline/2005/10/double-click-opens-search-instead-of-folder/.

After these steps, the registry under "Drive" and "Directory" information are as attaché at the end read somewhere there should be a "find" under lock and key, as I have, but don't know if the subkeys under 'Search' are what causes weird behavior.

If anyone knows and could provide what the values for the registry values must be in a system that works, would be nice to compare to possible problems.

Unsuccessfully, with what precedes, to solve the problem, but noticed through that:

2 c. When you are logged in as administrator, I am able to see and modify the registry keys concerned with regedit, considering that when logged in as a regular user, I get an error that translates roughly as "the key could not be opened [consultation]?.» Error in opening the key. "for"Default icon"and subkeys 'shell' to 'Drive' and some subkeys under"shellex ".

Oddly enough, this is also the case even if I "Run with" regedit as a user belonging to the Administrators group when logged in as a limited user.  Could be the mechanism of Windows registry access.

Noticed that the small group 'Users' did not have access to "Drive". Grant read access, even as the "directory" and other registry keys next to them, for "users".

Now see the values of registry as a limited user, but the problem persists. Do you really know what to try next, after spending hours Googling for answers.

3 computer laptop environment and other factors

    3. don't know if it's related, but perhaps that coincides the time and the possible reason of sage:

I had the problem two days ago described in "account Administor doesn't have access to some files and registry entries" to http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Windows/XP/Q_27415496.html.

Zone alarm free firewall prevented changing the key of HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microdsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.

Which was fixed as in the article above tweaking of Zonealarm settings so that changes are allowed.

    3. the environment of the laptop:

    Acer Travelmate 8204 laptop

Windows XP SP3 with virtually all updates of installed Microsoft.

Recent issues (related?) with the .NET Framework 4 updates and the repair facility. FixIt against MS to install MS Update and the Application works and reveals no problems, but the settings from-> Panel-> Add or Remove Applications said that it cannot change or delete NET Framework 4.

ZoneAlarm Free Firewall version: 11.0.000.057, prevented possible culprit get earlier access to the registry, uninstall?

Norton Antivirus version recently installed 20.3.1.22, possibly in conflict with ZA or bug?

It seems that I managed to solve the problem on my own. Did two things:

1 set the registry keys determine programs associated objects 'Répertoire', 'Drive' and 'File' to the default values by using the settings found here: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\

    2. If you want to have permissions for group 'Users' to read all these keys in the registry. For some reason any access worked only partly for standard users.

Not sure who finally solved this problem, but after I had finished 1. and 2. for the purpose of 'Record', by clicking on 'My computer' and any folder works normally for all users of the computer.

I suspect that some recent installation of program which adds actions associated with these objects messed up the registry. Suspects are Norton Antivirus and dbPowerAmp.

Thanks for the suggestions for this problem!

  • access to the user account without password via Remote Desktop Conncetion

Hello, I have a question for remote desktop connection.

I have two computer, let's call them computer (XP pro) and computer B.  And A computer user account has no password created.

If I activate the remote desktop on A computer (computer a user account has no password) and try to access it remotely from computer B, is it possible to connect? or I won't be able to connect?                      I have A computer user account password to allow remote access from any computer?

If anyone can help me with the answer, I would appreciate it!

  • How to remove the user account from the connection Start Page (therefore restart goes directly to the desktop without the need for any clickthru)?

On my Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit system, all I had to do was to remove all the accounts (other than 'administrator') in addition to my login information main user account and remove the password of the Admin account and I use a main user account, and then whenever I reboot, reboot goes all the way to the Windows desktop (i.e. through it does not stop with a cover page showing the user account).

-It does not seem that this approach works for my Vista SP2 Business Edition 32 bit.  In fact - I get TWO accounts of user with the exact name even appear (my account "DougL12"), as well as the "Administrator" account  None of these accounts have passwords (I can just click on one of them, which brings up a screen to enter a password, then click again without entering any PW, and then I get thru on my desk).

When I go to 'User accounts' control Panal and select 'Manage another account', windows displays a screen showing three accounts:

    (1) "Guest" (power off);

    (2) "DougL12" (hey I am running, whose B-T-W has privileges admin; also do not have a password); and

    (3) 'administrator' (which, if I choose only, is not an option 'disable', although it has not one)

    (password).

NOTE: page does not display "" versions of the user account "DougL12", although the login screen that is telling.

    so:

    (1) what do I do to eliminate the appearance of user accounts / Login Screen (i.e., default to my main user

Account, "DougL12" and should not click)?

    (2) any thoughts as to why the system could be displaying two Occurrences of the user account Login "DougL12" on the

If I save something in my office, sign out, and then someone else use my PC and sign as themselves. Can they see what I recorded on my desk?
    Thank you
    Sarah

    Hi SarahWest,

No, they will not see items that you have saved on your desktop in your user account.  Each user account has unique settings and preferences.  See the following article for more information:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/what-is-a-user-account

    I hope this helps!

    User accounts

I have 3 user accounts on my welcome screen which is admin. normally, I click on my own account. When I made the other day all my desktop icons went I have all the documents, pictures, etc. I though I had lost them up to what I went to c/users/selected my user account and everything is there. I seems the account that I click the home screen is not a link to my account?

    Please can someone help?

I tried to restore to an earlier date that did not work.

When you create a new user, the directory will not present until you connect for the first time this new user.  The fast way so disconnect and connect under the newly created user.  After that, the folder would be present.

The way alternative copy of the files on an external drive and copy then back also works, but there are also that you connect as long as this new user to do this.

The top of the default user folder account Security page is [heart] to this user and administrators only (that's why the lock symbol).  You should be able to bypass this security, if you are signed in with an account that has administrator privileges.  Otherwise, you will need to log on as the owner of this folder, right-click on the folder-> Security (tab) and change the security to allow access by other users.

My Windows user account image appears on my desktop Windows 7 64 bit. Anyone know why or how to do stop?

    Thank you.

(I don't know that if it comes to the good Windows themes box, either, so it must be moved, if not move.)

I think I knew what was causing it. I had "Show hidden files and folders" checked while I was trying to do something and I forgot to uncheck it when I was. I've unchecked and he went.

  • How can I limit access (within my home group) for only certain user accounts on my 'portable' computer to view certain user accounts on my "desktop pc"?

    Hello

I created a homegroup, in which my "Desktop PC" and "Notebook" are members. I have 4 user accounts on my desktop PC and 3 user accounts on my laptop. I wish that only certain user accounts on my laptop and desktop PC in order to access some user accounts on the other machine. I.e. "Sally" account user on my laptop only access account user 'Sally' on my desktop PC and vice versa. Rather than user account 'Sally' on laptop or desktop PC being able to access 'Martin' account on laptop or desktop PC.

In other words, I wish that every Member of the family must be able to connect to my laptop or my desktop PC and access their files that are stored on the desktop originally.

    Can you help me?

    Thank you.

  • registered shortcuts on the desktop does not open on a user account, but will be on the other account

If you right click and save the web page at the top of the office it will open and operate very well on a user account, but not on the other account they are all two administor account

    What is the solution

Hello! :) I think that if you try to go to the Web page that you saved to the original account and save this page on the desktop on that account, it should work. I think they are two separate, accounts and so maybe that's why we couldn't see the shortcut on the other account. I really hope this helps. :)

  • With XP, with is three different user accounts, possible to download Firefox 4 for a single user and keep Firefox 3 on the other, for a period of learning?

We are running XP and have 3 different user desktop accounts. We are very excited about the features of Firefox4, but one user a lot less comfortable with changes and does not want to lose the comfort of navigation in 3 until it had a chance to get used to using 4. May take a while...

Is it possible to download Firefox 4, perhaps to a new location. Or a new user account. And use that as a "teaching tool" while maintaining the 3?

Or can we move on 4, re-download a version 3 and import previous bookmarks for this user to new 3 download, until we him uncomfortable.

The answer is probably not. But if there is a creative way to do that, without another available computer, that would be great. Otherwise, improve us and deal with the frustration and whining here... 4 is too good to pass up.

    Ideas?
    Linda

When you install Firefox 4, choose the custom installation option and change the install location of Firefox. You'll then 2 versions of Firefox are installed.

As you have different user accounts, each user will have its own Firefox profile (location where are stored bookmarks, passwords, etc.). You should not pass between the different versions of Firefox with the same user profile. For those who want to use Firefox 4, make sure that you use a Firefox shortcut that opens Firefox 4, even for one who wants to stay with Firefox 3, just keep their shortened origin of Firefox and it should open the old version.
