cyclic redundancy check

I try to my computer using the Backup Wizard.  I have vista 64 bit.  I am constantly the message "data error (cyclic redundancy check). (0 x 80070017). "I tried to use a different DVD for my media to copy the backup, no change.  I have tried to check my hard for errors, however this program will not work either, tells me that it cannot check the drive when it is in use.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello

1. When you save the backup?
2A it worked fine earlier?

This error occurs if the hard disk has errors on this subject. I suggest that you run a check disk on drive C and then try the backup. You can help solve some computer problems and improve the performance of your computer by making sure that your hard disk has no errors.

1. open the computer by clicking the Start button, click computer.

2. click on the hard drive you want to check, and then click Properties.

3. click on the sur l' onglet tab Tools and then, under error-checking, click check now.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
To automatically repair problems with files and folders that detects the scanning, select automatically fix file system errors. Otherwise, the disk check will simply report a problem, but not to fix them.
To perform a full disk check, select search for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. This scan is trying to find and repair physical errors on the hard drive itself, and it may take much longer to complete.
To check for errors file and the physical errors, select the two automatically fix file system errors and search for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

4. click on Start.
Depending on the size of your hard disk, this may take several minutes. For best results, do not use your computer for any other tasks while it checks errors.

Important: Running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data can be lost.

You should not save it to your hard drive, because in the event of a disk failure hard, all your data is lost.

And you perform backups to your recovery partition; This is to reinstall the operating system.

    Hi shaunrollett,

Control of cyclic redundancy or CRC errors, usually occur when copying data to a CD or DVD. The error may indicate a bad block, a damaged disc or a hardware problem.

You can check whether or not the CD works in another computer.

You can try to run the Fixit mentioned in the link below and check if it helps to reolve the question:

Your CD or DVD drive cannot read or write media

  • Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

    Hello

I have an external backup drive.  I wasn't able to make the backup now that it returns errors.

I guessed it was a video folder and the files that I copied recently and he was causing. When I tried to remove it, it displays an error that is not able to read the source. Tried to remove the folder using 'rmdir' at the command prompt. Cannot delete with errors "data error (cyclic redundancy check)".

Ran a chkdsk on the volume, but still freezes at 2%...

No way to delete the folder? Or if I reformat the drive, it will help?

    Thank you in advance.

If you get CRC and fails the CHKDSK I strongly suspect that you have a failing hard drive.  Go to the preparer of HD and download and execute their verification utility HD
