• Why my PC slow down to a crawl when VMware Player is the suspension to the .vmem file?

  My PC becomes almost unusable when VMware Player prepares his State record to .vmem file. VMware Player is delegate the task to C:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe process. When we look in the Manager tasks, I see that the CPU usage is just 5.10% and the memory usage is around 40%, which is normal for me. When I open resource monitor, I see that ntoskrnl.exe is written extensively to the VMware .vmem file. From writing to the disk stops, my PC immediately snaps back to normal.

  I scanned the disc for errors and the performance issues with HDTune, I tested the RAM with memtest. Everything is normal, no errors, drive performance is approximately 110 MB/s. I have antivirus (Avira free) and I don't know that there is a legitimate ntoskrnl.exe Windows process. With the exception of this problem, my PC worked rock stable for three years.

  Why write on a hard drive that is not my OS drive affects the overall performance of a PC so and what can do to solve the problem? Also I don't understand, why suspending the hard .vmem file so long?

  My virtual machine has 8 Windows as a guest operating system. It has 4 GB of RAM. After I suspend the virtual machine, my host PC is trolling for about 10-15 minutes which seems far too long a little writing 4 GB of memory to the .vmem file status. I also tried VM VirtualBox with the same guest OS and 4 GB of RAM and it suspends a lot sooner and don't drag my PC after that. Also if I move the files in Windows Explorer on the same drive, it has this issue. It seems so VMware Player or ntoskrnl.exe is something too aggressive.

  I use a non-commercial (free) version of VMware Player. I do a few laboratories of practice using Microsoft Servers. Some of the steps in my hands-on labs require a formatting drive D.

  My problem is, when I create the Machines, disk space is allocated on the C drive. There is no option to partition and create logical drives.

  The ""Options " are included in the"parameters "Manager allows adding additional HDs.» But not for the default partitioning, 40GB HD.

  I need to be able to run these commands... ["ntdsutil > activate ATN example > ifm > create sysvol full d:\ifm '] in order to complete the laboratory as well as additional measures that depend on the completion of this exercise. The command fails, because VMware Player always default to a huge drive C.

  Try to add a new disk in VMware Player editing options and then format the drive in Windows.

  Your virtual machine must be stopped before you add the disk.

  I use VMware Player 5.0.2 on a host Windows 8.

  If I have a Bluetooth keyboard connected to the host, no virtual machine will start. I get the same error every time:

  "cannot find a valid peers to connect to.

  But if I take the keyboard away, then Bluetooth starts just fine.

  Guest operating systems are Vista and Windows 2003. They are all the same in this regard - the same error.

  The error occurs really fast - to the extent that the log files are not updated.

  Latest version of VMware tools is on the guest.

  Any help appreciated gratefully. I can't use the machines without a keyboard, and it's on my tablet computer that I need to be portable. Please note that the issue here is with the keyboard, if there is no Bluetooth keyboard machines act as they should.

  Whenever I try to connect a device (SanDisk Cruzer 32 GB) USB to my guest OS (Windows XP Professional SP3 - 32 bit) I get an error of the VMware Player, saying that no driver can be found. My host OS (Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1 - 64-bit) can recognize the USB device and VMware because the name of the device is displayed in a dialog box when I start my virtual OS.  My computer (DELL XPS 15 L501X) uses the USB 3.0 ports, but I lowered the compatibility of USB 2.0 on VMware (see attached image) as Winbdows XP does not support USB 3.0.

  I also tried to download Windows XP USB drivers, but it won't let me install on my virtual machine. I am able to run CD / DVD on my virtual computer and there seems to be some USB already installed on the computer, virtual drivers. (see attached image) VMware tools is installed on the virtual OS aswell.

  I appriciate any suggestions on how to solve this problem, so I can use the USB on my virtual machine.

  You may need to use a USB Hub connected to the PC 2.0, and then plug the device in in order to access the Windows XP virtual machine.  BTW, this is one of the standard in the case when the host has USB 3.0 even when you adjust the USB settings in VMware products.  Also you can try to change the settings of the host USB BIOS to 2.0, as appropriate.

• Evaluation of VMware Player license

  After testing on VMware Player 5, I also tested VMware Workstation 9 in order to get a grip on the differences. When I did uninstalled Workstation and install VMware Player 5 again.   If you have used VMware Workstation with the 30 day free trial serial number and uninstalled and serial number has not yet expired and install you VMware Player 5 I would expect it to appear as 'VMware Player (trial license)' because the VMware Workstation license key is still in the Windows registry.  It is located at [\VMware Workstation\License.ws.9.0.e1.201202 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.] and this withdrawal must make VMware Player 5 display as "VMware Player (Non-commercial use only).  As always make sure that you have proper backups before editing the Windows registry and or at least save the key to the target before deleting.

  A smaller download package is VMware-workstation-version 9.0.0 - 812388.exe.tar because it is only 271.2 MB.  "Détarer" it and then use the same command line syntax to extract the contents of the executable file as in the past.

  Suggest that you try to read the product documentation as it should dissipate you misconceptions / misunderstandings!

  VMware Player is a Type 2 hypervisor that is installed under Windows or Linux and sleeps like a variety guest operating systems, Windows, Linux and Solaris.  Mac OS X can only be installed on Apple brand hardware and is supported on VMware ESX/ESXi or VMware Fusion.  Install Mac OS X on non-Apple hardware - of brand violates Apple SLA for Mac OS X and is illegal and discussing or helping to do with VMware Player would violate VMware Community terms of use so it cannot be discussed in this use case.  If you want to install a supported Mac OS X OS on a Virtual Machine on the Apple brand hardware, using VMware Fusion or VMware ESX/ESXi then please ask questions for this use case on the forums appropriate for what supported VMware product, you choose to use.

• VMware Player crashed only recover

  I'm running windows7 and have installed VMWare Player.   On that I have two virual machines installed, as well with Windows XP.   One broke down, and I was not able to recover.   The message displayed is:

  

  I tried to perform a recovery of windows and tried to boot from the XP CD, but none of these lead to any recovery.

  The second VM still works well.

  Separately, I tried to upgrade VMWare Player to the new 4.0.2 revision, but whenever he goes through the procedure and then instructs the time there was a software error and try again later.   I don't know if this is related to the foregoing.
