VMware Player 5.0.1 - USB no driver found error.

Hello

I searched for quite a while around the forum, but none of the discussions have solved my problem.

Whenever I try to connect a device (SanDisk Cruzer 32 GB) USB to my guest OS (Windows XP Professional SP3 - 32 bit) I get an error of the VMware Player, saying that no driver can be found. My host OS (Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1 - 64-bit) can recognize the USB device and VMware because the name of the device is displayed in a dialog box when I start my virtual OS.  My computer (DELL XPS 15 L501X) uses the USB 3.0 ports, but I lowered the compatibility of USB 2.0 on VMware (see attached image) as Winbdows XP does not support USB 3.0.

I also tried to download Windows XP USB drivers, but it won't let me install on my virtual machine. I am able to run CD / DVD on my virtual computer and there seems to be some USB already installed on the computer, virtual drivers. (see attached image) VMware tools is installed on the virtual OS aswell.

I appriciate any suggestions on how to solve this problem, so I can use the USB on my virtual machine.

Thank you very much

Joe.

You may need to use a USB Hub connected to the PC 2.0, and then plug the device in in order to access the Windows XP virtual machine.  BTW, this is one of the standard in the case when the host has USB 3.0 even when you adjust the USB settings in VMware products.  Also you can try to change the settings of the host USB BIOS to 2.0, as appropriate.

  • Downgrade from Windows 7 RC to Windows XP - no hard drive found error

I have Windows 7 RC running on my DELL 8400 desktop computer and want to perform a new installation on Windows XP. Installation stops after the 1st (install Windows XP) screen with error message "No Hard Drive Found" and start again. I used to run XP OK on the machine before participating in the beta program. Please help as I am not ready to move again to the full version of Windows 7. My hard drive is a Western Digital 160 GB and the DELL 8400 has an edge Intel SATA Controller. Thanks for your help.

    Mike

    Hi Mike.

You may be able to put the drive in the BIOS for a SATA legacy which will act as an IDE, which won't be visible when installing XP.  Otherwise, you need to get a copy of the SATA drivers, and then press F2 as the XP installation starts that will allow you to use the drivers that XP installation can see the SATA drive.

  • Toshiba 320 GB external USB HARD drive - 10 error Code

Basically, I bought one of these today and put everything and he put in place and for some reason, my computer refuses to recognize or even start it. Initially, he recognized new hardware, but then nothing happened. I found it in device manager and it says that it will not start due to a "Code 10". Anyone know what it is?

Then I turned off my computer after about an hour of nothing, then tried again, once more he recognized a second but a pop up came that said an error has occurred and may not work properly. Again, someone knows why this happened?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hello

Code 10 means that the device could not start.
Make sure you have the latest driver installed for your device. You may also be able to resolve this issue by removing the device in Device Manager, and through the Add New Hardware Wizard in Control Panel.

It is also possible that your USB HDD needs an external power supply.
If the USB device needs more than 500 ma, so usually an external power supply is required.

  • A machine virtual de VMware player can be saved on an external HDD for backup?

Please allow me to set up the scene: I have a shadow PC from my main system on VMware Player

I try an update on my 1st VM player. The update for my distro of choice borks the system, or at least a very important application. My corrections to the application can do worse things & this my system borks. I then delete the virtual machine.

Now after this deletion, I do a reinstall Virtual complete. Then wait and see if a fix is coming in the next update.

If I copy/home/username/vmware/opensuse to an external USB HARD drive.

Is it possible after deleting a virtual machine in the drive to go to my USB and pick up my copy of opensuse in/home/username/vmware/and have it function like the old?

    Hey there,

You can stop to the bottom of the virtual machine, copy the VM on your external HARD drive and be prepared to restore it if it breaks.

  • Can I make a partition D on VMWare Player?

    Hey all.

I am new to the community and VMware.

I use a non-commercial (free) version of VMware Player. I do a few laboratories of practice using Microsoft Servers. Some of the steps in my hands-on labs require a formatting drive D.

My problem is, when I create the Machines, disk space is allocated on the C drive. There is no option to partition and create logical drives.

The ""Options " are included in the"parameters "Manager allows adding additional HDs.» But not for the default partitioning, 40GB HD.

I need to be able to run these commands... ["ntdsutil > activate ATN example > ifm > create sysvol full d:\ifm '] in order to complete the laboratory as well as additional measures that depend on the completion of this exercise. The command fails, because VMware Player always default to a huge drive C.

Does anyone know of a work around this in VMware Player?

    Thank you

Try to add a new disk in VMware Player editing options and then format the drive in Windows.

Your virtual machine must be stopped before you add the disk.

  • Ultrabook HP 4 t-1100 - hard drives defective - No. DVD player - made HP sells recovery USB flash drives?

    Hello

I am repairing a laptop HP Touchsmart Ultrabook 4 t-1100 for a friend. The pc wouldn't start. BSOD, would try to repair itself, then BSOD again. I ran the hard drive from the bios test. He said that the hard drive has failed. I bought a new drive hard Western Digital 7mm Blue, replaced the wrong drive, has passed the test to drive hard and then asked my friend if she had the Windows 8 recovery disc or a flash supplied with the computer player.

Apparently, the recovery discs are not included with Ultrabooks, nor are a recovery flash drive. Being that this computer has been for a schoolgirl teenager, given to him by his mother of the computer-illiterate, nor had the foresight to do a restore of backup USB flash drive. All Ultrabooks do not have a reader of CD/DVD/BLU, so a USB recovery "disk" is necessary.

I don't have another computer to Windows 8 lying autour to make a USB recovery. Some people sell images of USB recovery on eBay, but they don't seem very good reputation.

And apparently they do not put the product key of Windows 8 on the bottom of portable computers more either! HP offers to sell a "recovery disc" through their section of the support of their website, but it is obviously not a DVD player to put it in.

Here's my quandry: If I buy the "recovery disk" HP, they will send me a DVD or a USB FlashDrive with a system image on it? And if they send me DVD, I'll be able to put it in a computer Windows 7 and make a bootable system image that then I could put it on a USB key? Then, Windows will automatically find the product key?

    Hello:

When I click on the link below, I see an option to order a recovery media USB for this model.

  • How to get the external hard drive to connect to VMWare Player?

    Hi all

I currently have VMWare Player 3.1.4 and that you have a VM installed on an external SSD that works very well.

The guest operating system is XP and host operating system is OpenSuSE 11.4.

The problem is that I have another external hard drive that I want to connect to the virtual machine to store files and other (WD Scorpio Black 320 GB).

So what I tried was when I opend VMWare Player, I went to add a new SCSI device, found the hard drive, I wanted to use and created it. But when I go in-> "VM" > "Removable devices" > "generic SCSI (SCSI 0:1) ' > 'Connect'-> I get the below error message.

Device virtual scsi0:1: could not open the device host "/ dev/sdc": not sufficient permissions to access the file. Please make sure that the virtual device is configured to use a Linux generic SCSI device (/ dev/sg *), and that the physical device works normally on the host computer.
Cannot connect the device virtual scsi0:1.

Does anyone know if I'm doing something wrong? What are the permissions are they talking about?

    Thanks in advance,

    Matt

Are back at the office and tested on a variety of Linux Ubuntu and was able to add a second drive HARD/dev/sdb as a physical and even disc was also able to boot from it even if it needs to be dismantled first and I had to start VMware Player using sudo, because I was using a standard account both add the disk and run the virtual machine with the added disk.

Can I add this USB device to my virtual guest later in VMware Player?

I feel like the installation of VMware Workstation for just add this USB device installation. I have no experience of using VMware Player. I've always had of VMware Workstation to support me in everything I've done, that's why I ask.

I can only imagine that maybe VMware Player will limit to deal with the addition of devices/units, but what is the truth?

Peripheral USB themselves act as plug-and-play.  As long as you have configured the virtual computer to have a USB controller and have installed the drivers (via VMware Tools) in the comments, you can attach any USB device to the guest with workstation, player, server, Fusion, etc..

Workstation already includes the UI player interface so that you can test your VMS how they will be displayed to users who have installed Player.  There should be a shortcut installed for it.  You can run your VM via player INTERFACE and to answer to your question here, I think.
