Data Execution Prevention (DEP)

I try to install a program (software bug) with a download on the internet which is used and installed it with this link by a lot of people and I think that comes from a reliable source. But when I try to load it, I get a message from the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) section of my Windows XP that says it's close Windows Explorer and then my desktop is disabled, and the only way out of this mess for seems to be to ctrl-alt-del and log off.

I wonder, what is happening and what should I do?

Make sure that you update your PC and installed the latest service pack for Windows (if any).

I recommend you contact the support of this program, this problem could be known.

Also, you can try adding the software exception.

Just in case run the full scan of the system with antivirus.

  • Data Execution Prevention prevents iTunes to launch... Any ideas?

A few days ago I stopped being able to launch iTunes.  I immediately get a message sayign that he must close and Data Execution Prevention, it is that it is preventing from running.  I'm on Vista and you have Service Pack 2.

    Hello

    Change Data Execution Prevention settings

Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a security feature that protects against viruses and other security threats by analyzing your programs to make sure that they use the system safely memory.

If you choose to protect all programs, you can always turn off DEP for individual programs. If you think that a program does not run correctly when DEP is enabled, check for a compatible version of the DEP program or an update from the software publisher before you change your DEP settings.

    a. Click to open the system.

    b. click on advanced system settings. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    c. running, click settings.

d click the Data Execution Prevention tab and then click on turn off DEP for all programs and services except those I select.

To turn off DEP for an individual program

Select the check box next to the program that you want to turn off DEP for and then click OK.

If the program is not in the list, click Add. Navigate to the Program files, search for the executable file of the program (it will have the .exe extension) and then click Open.

To turn on DEP for an individual program

Clear the check box next to the program that you want to turn on DEP for and then click OK.

I would like to use the recommended settings, but if you wish, you can exclude certain programs.  You can even exclude programs is you use the recommneded settings.

  • Data Execution Prevention will not let me turn off for nothing

Data Execution Prevention (DEP) blocked one of my games to open. I followed the steps to turn it off, but when I get to the window with the option "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select", it is grayed out and won't let me select it. I am the administrator (my account is the only one on this computer), so I don't know why it doesn't let me do. I have looked everywhere and can not find someone else with the same problem. I have Vista Home Premium, 64-bit, if that helps at all.

    Hello

First of all, I suggest you to see if a Data Execution Prevention of the game compatible version is available by visiting the website of the software publisher. If the Publisher has not released an updated, compatible version DEP for the program, you can turn off DEP for the program that was closed. You will be able to use the game, but it might be vulnerable to an attack that could spread to your other files and game.

I would suggest trying the following steps and check if it helps.

Step 1: Open the elevated command prompt, follow the steps to open the elevated command prompt.

    a. click the Start button.

    (b) in the Start Menu, click programs principally made, followed by accessories.

    (c) in the menu accessories, right-click on command line option.

    d. in the drop-down menu that appears, click on the "Run as Administrator" option.

    e. If you have the User Account Control (UAC) enabled, you will be asked for permission before the opening of the command line. You simply press the button continue if you are the administrator or insert password etc.

Step 2: Try the following steps to activate the Data Execution Prevention, using commands.

    a. in the elevated command prompt, type bcdedit.exe/set {current} nx OptIn and press enter.
NOTE: If for some reason that this command does not DEP after restarting the computer, then use the command bcdedit.exe/set {current} nx AlwaysOn rather.

    b. you should get a success return message.

    c. close the elevated command prompt.

    d. restart the computer to apply.

Note: Once you are done with step 1 and step 2, try to add the data execution prevention program and check if it helps to open the game or not.

    Hope the information is useful.
