Data merge field is out of position

Screen Shot 2015-03-19 at 1.11.56 PM.jpg

I hope someone can help me.  I put everything by default but for some reason my data merge overview when selects by default as off the page (red boxes) and centered.
Can someone help me understand how to bring back them to the page?

Thank you.

CJ

OK, for a merger of multiple records, you can use exactly 1 set of placeholders in the upper left corner, which seems correct, but I would remove the rest of the stuff until after the merger and put it on a master page, you can then apply. You must also DISABLE the cliché preview multiple record.

Since you have seen this model, it is probably now garbage, then copy the fusion placeholder image and paste into a new file and try again.

    Hi all

    I'm trying to figure out how to change the green bar, so I can replace < < Expertise > > - < < Expertise > > with another field of my excel data source. I want to replace it with the Category field in the data merge box, but I can't change this green bar.

    It seems that the green bar is on the master page - you may need to change it.

  • Data merge objects spread out of the page

    I'm doing a fusion of data with multiple records per page are supposed to be six nametages of 4 x 3 inches per page. I created the master with page

    text merge field and did the merge. The first 6 come out well, but the following labels are spread out of the page, such as label, 7 and 8 are well under the 5 and 6 and go off the page. Page 2 of the document is to end up with label 24-25, but the 7-8 label must begin on page 2.

    I've got files of Jeff and ran the merger here. Observation of my resultsmatch exactly Daniel. Bringing together executives solves the problem (look back I see beginning Jeff screenshot was taken using a fusion of the page of the document).

    I asked earlier if the Group makes a difference, but has not gotten a response from Jeff. Now, we know that it takes. If this does not resolve the problem on its end, I would try certainly to trashing the prefs and controlled again.

  • Data merge InDesign CS6 not properly position it on the page.

    July 3, 2013

    I use Indesign cs6... I worked in indesign from cs.  I did many complex data merges in 5.5 and before, but now in CS6, when I do to create the pages merged, it my first one of the centers and throw the rest out of the page.  I mean multiple images to a page.  Unique to a page works fine.

    In addition, I worked with windows xp and now I'm on a Windows 7 computer.  Don't know if that makes a difference, but thought it was worth mentioning.

    I tried all the settings in the windows of data merge.

    I tried to place on the page in different places, but when it merges it is always in the Center (first element).

    I looked for plug-ins, patches, patches online and found nothing that will help you.

    I'm running out of things to try and find any help or patches on the adobe Web site.

    I have a job with 1200 pieces (4 upwards) coming soon and I don't want to have to fix each page individually.

    Thanks in advance

    Rhonda

    You have not used the tool Page on this file, you have?

    In addition, would be worth trying a new file for the model and the copy of the presentation of the card in it (or rebuild). It can be damaged at this point.

  • Help - data merge is not out put as previewed. How can I solve this problem?

    Hello

    I have problems with the merger of data not to set several records, as I saw in the preview.

    I think that I've set up the file properly:

    This is what I see as a preview and want to create:

    However, this is what I get:

    I tried to create a new file and copy my design on without using the preview works however I still get the same problem.

    I work in the CS6 - someone out there with a solution?

    Try to move the placeholder on the page of document and apply the no master. You can assign the master after the merger.

  • Looking for bad data merge fields

    I'll set up a catalogue with nearly 2000 products. Whenever I try to connect my database using data fusion and I click the Preview button, I get an error that says: "there is at least a placeholder data which is not found in the data source. Make sure that any placeholders correspond to the fields in the data source. "With 2000 records, I can not easily/quickly check list by list for errors that are causing the problem. Does anyone know how to find incorrect records in the Indesign file, so I can fix my spreadsheet? I'm sure that the data in my spreadsheet must be correct.

    Thank you!

    Joel is probably correct, however:

    Does anyone know how to find incorrect records in the Indesign file, so I can fix my spreadsheet? I'm sure that the data in my spreadsheet must be correct.

    Just delete the records of the half, and then try again. If you get the error, you know which half is in. Need you to log2 (1000)-online 10 divisions to find the problem.

  • Data merge do not pick up all the fields of data

    Hello

    I had a problem, posted here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1217090

    Essentially, I used the "CSV2Tables" script to pre-populate arrays of simple column 2 with information from a CSV data source.

    The tables consist of a title and a block on this specific topic. Many of the blocks of information that I am importing also contain the tag (< < DataTag > >) data

    The plan is to use CSV2Tables to populate the tables, then change the data source and run an ID data merge to replace all < < flags > > normal in the tables with the information from a second source of CSV data.

    The problem is, CSV2Tables is important data and tables very well pre-load, but data tags that are found in each body text are picked up in plain text (as Peter Spier has pointed out, they are being requested by a plain text stream rather than drag since the merger Panel and direct mail) so when I try to run direct mail ID , none of the fields are in my document.

    My question is - is there a method, or a script available out there that can essentially do a find/replace in a document and replace the text that appears as the < < PlainText > > with a data that is recognized by ID, label that will allow me to run a data merge?

    Told me to check out some of the available commercial plugins out there, but registration and establishment of demo would force me to contact our it supplier for each, and it would be a comprehensive process.

    Any help is very appreciated.

    Hello

    As far as I know it actually takes a script to replace "plain text" with dataMergeTextPlaceholders.

    a small example;

    Array.prototype.find = function (string) {
        for (var s = 0; s < this.length; s++)
            if (this[s] == string) return s;
            return -1;
        }

    var mFile, mDoc, mFields, mFieldsNames, mStory, mPlainTxt, mNameToCompare, mField_ID;

    // edit this with proper .csv path
    mFile = File(Folder.myDocuments + "/" + "Merge.csv");
    mDoc = app.activeDocument;
    mDoc.dataMergeProperties.selectDataSource(mFile);
    mFields = mDoc.dataMergeProperties.dataMergeFields;
    mFieldsNames = mFields.everyItem().fieldName;

    // script assumes a text box with "plain texts" to replace is selected
    mStory = app.selection[0].parentStory;
    app.findGrepPreferences = null;
    app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = "<<.+?>>";
    mPlainTxt = mStory.findGrep(true);
    for (var k = 0; k < mPlainTxt.length; k++) {
        mNameToCompare = mPlainTxt[k].contents.slice(2,-2);
        mField_ID = mFieldsNames.find(mNameToCompare);
        if (mField_ID > -1) {
              mField = mFields[mField_ID];
            mDoc.dataMergeTextPlaceholders.add (
                mStory,
                mPlainTxt[k].insertionPoints[0],
                mField
                )
        mPlainTxt[k].remove();
         }
        }

    At this point, you can run a "normal data merge.

    This should work for related managers (the one selected) or a table inside the selected image

    I hope it could be useful for more complex tasks

  • Linking the data with JavaScript for PDF link merge field

    Hi all

    In InDesign, I use the data merge to generate a PDF file with data from a data source file. The fusion of data will fill a product ID field. I want to write a script that changes the product number field so that it contains a JavaScript link in the PDF file.

    For example, the number of the product [1234-567] will launch: app.launchURL ("plsddr://localhost/1234-567 |") * "(, true);" When the product number link is clicked on in the PDF file.

    Can anyone provide an example of how this could be done, or point me in the right direction? If there is a better way to go about it, please let me know.

    Thank you!

    What findText returns is a list of text, but it is completely interchangeable with the word. It seems that InDesign can change at will between the characters, words, lines, paragraphs, and stories.

    Text can consist of a single SpecialCharacter (a column break, or a return or one of the SpecialCharacters enumeration) or a "String" standard JavaScript object - a simple Unicode string.

    The property that "holds" the text is 'content' - so, it all adds to 'get' the text that has been found, you will use generally

    Next = list.pop ();

    Alert ("the text content of this is"' + next.contents +' "'");

    and you can build further on it - use it as a URL HyperlinkDestination or something like that. The fixed points of point-'next' - text 'live', it was found in, so be careful not to change. Do something like

    Next.contents = "hey what happened."

    will change the text in your document. But it is also useful to add, for example, a hyperlink to the actual position on this text has been found.

    (A Council about the changes: you want to change your document, the original findText elements stressed will be ruined once you changed one!) To avoid this, work backwards from the last element found at the first. findText (true) reverses the order of the found items, from the last to the first - see JS help on that).

    Regarding

    (Also, how to print the contents of a Word object?)

    It depends on what you mean by "printing". On a printer?

  • Do not import does not all fields in data merge

    I use the data merge in CS5. Can I import a csv file and get 11 data fields. Unfortunately, there are another 12 fields in the data merge Panel. This could be the cause?

    It is often because of line breaks in the data, the improper headers and missing headers. To verify the file merger.

  • Conditional fields with data merge

    I have, I think, would be a common question for people using Data Merge in InDesign for cards.

    I have several fields phone, with a letter from small caps to indicate what type (mobile, direct, fax, etc.), that is:

    M < < phone > >

    D < < Tel Direct > >

    If an employee has only one phone line, how can I do so that the entire line is omitted from the final merged doc?

    In the past, I just went in the game final and quickly deleted lines / extra characters, but I know that there is a way!

    Thank you.

    mavenlink cards1.1_Page_1.jpg

    The main character must be included in the paragraph style, even if it's a Word. If deleting empty lines turned on, these main characters are removed too.

    To add the main characters in a paragraph style, you can define a list numbered without numbers but with the main character and space or tab between.

  • Data merge Panel no display fields

    Hi all

    I have problems with the data merge. I select a proper CSV file. It seems that inDesign loads the file (no errors whatsoever), but then it does not display the fields on the Panel. It remains the same, with instructions on how to use the data merge.

    What I am doing wrong?

    How can I solve this problem?

    Thank you very much

    Jordi

    Jordi,

    I see nothing wrong with the file, but it won't work for me in CS3 or CS4. What is even more strange, it is I can do a new test file that works, but if I try to type your data into excel and save it, it does not.

    Good news. I think I found the problem. Rename the last field to something other than 'table' and it seems to work. I suspect that ID interprets that as some sort of command.

    Peter

  • Empty fields in the data merge is originally from empty lines will appear. CS4

    I had this problem when I ask myself on my data merge info I origionally put phone and mobile phone on the same line which resaulted in the cell phone number split in two, as the column was not wide enough to display both side by side. I then moved the cell phone up to the next line but the problem number, then I had was that this would leave an empty line whenever I could meet someone who has not had a cell phone number. Anyone know how I can reduce this empty line when the phone line is empty?

    See your other thread where you have asked about it.

  • Data merge several people on one page

    I create a file of data merge to create a travelogue of emergency contacts. The previous file was done in Publisher (YUCK) and needs to be rethought. I'm trying to set up the file properly in InDesign to perform a data merge in which there are 3 contacts per page (one primary, secondary and substitute for each county in New York). See below

    Publisher File Screen Shot.jpg

    Currently, I can't figure out how to get multiple contacts on a single page. The way it is set up now, I can get information for a person to appear on each Board.

    InDesign Screen Shot.jpg

    Any ideas on how to help?

    You have the same problem with which I tried to help in this thread: repeat pages

    As you've found data merge InDesign really only merges a record of several sets of fields... OR (what you want)... multiple records to a set of fields.

    So what you need is just a set of fields; one. Follow these steps:

    And delete everything except the first page.

    1. Now, with emphasis on the page of the document (and not his mistress), choose Create a merged Document in the data merge Panel menu.
    2. Tab records the dialog box create a merged Document, choose multiple records in the accounts rendered by menu Page of the document.
    3. Check the box saw several shot record.
    4. Switch to Multiple record layout tab and set the controls to set folders as desired (3 per page) while previewing in real-time.
  • IDCS6 MACOSX JS: data merge multiple txt files one after the other

    Hello everyone.

    I have a situation where I have to data merge multiple text files to a single file indesign real "base". Databases formats are the same, the point of difference is a code in the second field of the database that refers to a postal box (not a zip/postal code, a code of 'distribution center' that has possibilities of 56 or greater). I would prefer data merge a file and then somehow split the PDF via Acrobat, but the length of postal areas resulting is incompatible and something that cannot be done if the document "split" feature in acrobat.

    The database starts as one massive file but using a one line code, can be divided into postal areas in separate text files.

    My last question: is it possible data merge several files at the same time (for example one after the other) and to give them their names based on the names of the input text file?

    OLE Kvern had a script to merge the data to a file without the user interface. I changed the last line slightly so that it generates a PDF file based on [high quality]:

    if(app.documents.length != 0){
            var myDocument = app.activeDocument;
            app.dataMergeOptions.removeBlankLines = true;
            //Select a source file.
            var myDataFile = File.openDialog("Select a data file")
            var exported = "file location(redacted for the sake of this post)"
            if(myDataFile != ""){
                    myDocument.dataMergeProperties.selectDataSource(myDataFile,);
                    myDocument.dataMergeProperties.exportFile(exported,"[High Quality Print]",);
            }

    }

    I guess that the answer has to do with the variable "myDataFile" and rather than just being open a dialog box, it could be somehow by selecting a table of text files, but it is where I am out of my depth.

    Ideas or thoughts which may not involve trying to do both the many mergers, but can somehow revolve around a great fusion of PDF?

    Thank you very much

    Colin

    Since writing my last response, I realized there was a better answer. It is a scenario of Peter Kahrel and a modified version of a script by Olav Kvern. Details can be found here: batch of merge data | Adobe Community

    I have since made other mods to the script is easier to understand:

    if(app.documents.length != 0){
    // make sure to use the document that is open
            var myDoc = app.activeDocument;
    // get the name of the document that is open for future naming purposes
            var myName = myDoc.name
    // get the location of the folder that contains both the indesign files and the text files
            var myLocation = "FULL PATH LOCATION OF FOLDER CONTAINING TEXT FILE AND DESTINATION FOR FINAL PDFS"
    // define the names of the data files to use based upon the names of the indesign files
            var myImport = myLocation + myName + ".txt"
    // define the names of the data merged PDFs to be created
            var myExport = myLocation + myName + ".pdf"
    // the actual engine for the merge, including DM instructions such as remove blank lines, object fitting etc.
            var myDataFile = myImport
            app.dataMergeOptions.removeBlankLines = true;
            if(myDataFile != ""){
                    myDoc.dataMergeProperties.selectDataSource(myDataFile,);
                    myDoc.dataMergeProperties.exportFile(myExport, "[PDF/X-1a:2001]", );
            }

    }

    If this script will automatically merge a file which is open as LONG as the data file is the same name as the indesign file with .txt at the end for example

    Woodward.indd (indesign file)

    Woodward.indd.txt (used for merging text file)

    This script does still not the original memory and who was using an indesign document, to browse for many text files and merging of PDF based on text files.

    HOWEVER, I am sure that the answer to that is based only on the use of the script above (no need to Peter batch convert script) and changing the line 9 to be a loop for... but again, this is where I come to a grinding halt. Any help would be appreciated.

    Colin
