• Having problems with ESXi/vSphere Client Network

  First of all, I apologize if it's thread is in the wrong section.

  I recently installed ESXi v6.0.0 in VMware Workstation 12.0 trying to familiarize myself with ESXi as I recently graduated and I forgot most of what I learned from the class I took.

  Then, ESXi installed smoothly and was very painless.

  Then, I tried to create a virtual machine. It's when things are messy. I can't understand why, but I don't get any network connectivity after obtaining a DHCP address to all within the virtual machine, in addition to being able to ping the host ESXi itself.

  First of all, networking is like so:

  10.10.10.1 router/gateway

  10.10.10.254 DHCP, DNS, server, VMware Workstation files 12

  10.10.10.250 ESXi host

  10.10.10.244 ESXi reviews - Windows 7

  I can't really understand what the problem is, or what is happening. Yes, I could set up an internal network of the virtual machine with a firewall and what not, but I was hoping that there would already network connectivity while I wouldn't do. Also, is it possible to make attachments online?

• Looking for advice on my lab with ESXi 5 free

  Hi all

  I would like to know if I need a license to just virtualize machines in my scenario.

  My goals:

  • All virtualized Machines, I will not use virtualization features, I want just the availability virtualize my machines, I don't care management or vmotion. I know that in a production environment is not a good practice, but like I said, I just want a maximum of my machines.

  Here I show my laboratory structure:

  Servers:

  • I have 2 servers with the following configuration:

    • HD 1 TB
    • 2 10/100/1000 integrated network in the motherboard cards

  Switches

  All the switches used will be of Juniper Networks

  My doubts:

  • Will it take any license of vmware to achieve what I want, even though I won't use it all functionality of virtualization, I want just the infrastructure. • Storage vMotion possible with ESXi Std Edt or not?

  We have two implementations of VMware with ESXi Standard edition licenses installed on the two site. A site has vCenter Server Foundation edition while the other has vCenter Server Standard Edition.

  The problem is that the site with vCenter Std and vSphere 5 Std doenst allow storage vMotion (see image below)

  

  While, on the other hand, site 5 Stnd vSphere with vCenter Foundation allows storage Vmotion (see image below)

  

  How is it so that vSphere Stndard this edtion of different characteristics in different places?

  I had recorded the call and found the solution... VSphere 5.0 and 5.1 gives really different set of features with the same Std license vSphere.   Take a look at the link for options available with vSphere 5.0 and 51 below.

  For a test, I used the same Standard edition server with 5.1 key to it has worked well with Storage vMotion Option available :-)

• Vshphere Client 5.1 can't connect with esxi 5.0 and earlier

When I try to connect to an earlier version of esxi it show me update popup but unfortunately on this machine I can't connect to the Internet ihave manually download a patch?

  We have an application on redhat with hight cpu utilization.

  For now, we use the server with 4 QuadCore CPU, then 16 core.

  We believe the use of virtualization for this application.

  I see the standard ESXi license has limitation of 4vCPU...

  Can I make a virtual machine with 16 vCPU with ESXi or vmware product?

  There's a special permit for this?

  Scalability is good? Or it is better not to use vmware for this use?

  8 - way SMP is currently the maximum supported by ESX and which will require the product under license (i.e. not 'free' license). There are speculations that this number will 8-way beyone in the next version, but there is no guarantee. Typical applications of virtualization are scale-out, not measure - upward for this reason. However, you can assign only 8 lanes practically in several ways:

  1 x 8-core vCPU

  2 x 4 vCPU strands

  4 x vCPU 2 strands

  8 x 1-core vCPU

  I'm installing ESXi 4.0 on HP DL380 G4 server and I was wondering if the management of the HP tool system can be installed along side the hypervisor, so I can remotely check the condition of the equipment of the machine.

  I had little experience with HP SIM, it's been a while. So with ESXi, there is no agent that runs on the host computer, it uses the CIM (Common Interface Management) which is an API that can monitor the hardware and return this information to tell your server HP SIM. For the configuration and use, I recommend looking at HP and the involvement of the HP documents. If you have installed ESXi HP image, then from the point of view host you should be good. You must later have your SIM Server talk to host ESXi and sure he monitors the components you want and alert on it, etc.

• vMotion with ESXi 4.0

  We currently have a host running vSphere ESX. We also have another license for vSphere with the intention to build this second host soon. Is one of the things I want to start using vMotion, Storage vMotion, and obviously with this second host I can start doing this. My question is, can I do all this with ESXi 4.0 as well? If all I want to do is create virtual machines and have them fast vMotioning between the hosts, this free option will allow me to do? ESXi 4.0 does support vMotion and Storage vMotion?

  What drawbacks are with ESXi? I'm looking to save money on licensing costs and put the money saved towards greater SAN storage.

  I'll put up a hypverisor 5.5 ESXi update 2 on a lenovo RD540. There is a RAID700 controller.

  I use 3 HARD drive in a RAID6 configured with the tool of the bios (Mega RAID LSI)

  I bought a relatively new desktop for my studies of cisco computer. I am completely new to exsi and took notes on the net to install esxi.

  In "Select a disk to install or upgrade", I am unable to see the two hard drives.

  CPU Intel I7 - 4790K, motherboard Asus Z97 - has

  240GB Kingston SSD

  Toshiba 1 TB HARD drive

  I tried to format the two hard drive using windows 7 and tried to install Esxi 6, but the two remains undetected.

  I tried 5.5 as well but the result is the same.
