DataGuard configuration question.

I need suggestion about the configuration of the dg.
primary-
OS - linux
DB - 10.2
data files - OMF (db_create_file_dest and db_create_online_log_dest_n)
FRA is configured.
archiving of FRA.

Backup site.
OS - Linux
DB - 10.2
already have a stand-alone single instance running on ASM. with two DATA and FRA

So my question is can I create instance watch on ASM?
primary means no EAM with omf and Eve on ASM for?
Please notify. Thanks in advance.

You can... but I wouldn't... and here's why. Assuming that, even if you did not, it is not logical and physical.

The point of the physical standby, is that it is 100% identical to your production by all means server. Shell scripts, run on one should run without modification or other tests on the other. It is the same for all aspects of infrastructure. Make it different and you invite problems or need to up on all aspects of the tests.

In case you, to all the less, your upgrade paths, and other names must be different. Of course, I would move one spfile to another.

Why not move the primary to ASM, and then to implement the strategy of DR?

You did not mention the version of the database that you could use. 11 g, Yes, it is possible to have different primary and eve of binary OS.

Hi Andre,

It is not possible to uninstall a group of patches. Either Oracle home must be restored from Oracle home or install it again. Once this is done, you can simply enable log shipping and it should take care of database backup.

• Dataguard Configuration database upgrade

Hello

I have some doubts regarding the upgrade of database in dataguard configuration. Could someone help me please.

-How update occurs in the dataguard configuration?
-Is that we must install only different OH in both? And once the catupgrade script is run on the primary, it will automatically update pending as well?
- Or is to upgrade the two separately? That is to say, first aid and then primary or vice versa
-Can reduce us downtime by breaking the dataguard config. Do a permutation, and do secondary as main and primary upgrade first?
And once the upgrade is complete in the primary, raise and improve the day before. And later once the upgrade completed on standby, primary synch and sleep.

Please share your ideas and your thoughts!

Thank you!

First of all, - steps may differ about the version upgrade but - my post with the following link might help clarify the concept.

First you patch the binary Oracle both primary and standby. Then open services dataguard and upgrade the primary, standby database will update already.

• DataGuard configuration in production

Hi friends,

I have to configure my production environment (primary) to a database of pending. I have a question for this I need to make some changes in the file(spfile/pfile) parameter any time will I have to bounce my primary database or it need the downtime?

Thank you and best regards,

Arya

Hello

To configure dataguard, must actually DB bounce we configure dataguard in my company without rebound. All the required parameters can be defined using the alter system command to set the primary database memory, even if you use on startup pfile. When using pfile don't forget to edit to carry all the settings that have been defined on the primary database to configure dataguard so that when the DB is rebound later or to scheduled maintenance window, the settings will be retained and it posed problems for the installation of dataguard.

• Network configuration question

I'm one of our 5.5 hosts replace with new material and want to make sure that I get the right networking. We have unit vcenter and a HA cluster with shared on an EQ San storage and complete double switches for redundancy. My old hosts have 2 quad port NIC, so configure each vswitch with double vmnic for a total redundancy was easy - I split each pair on the physical network interface cards. If one of the physical network cards is dead, I was still all my connections.

The new host has 1 quad port nic and dual 2 network cards to port. Network interface cards double port match and have tcp offload capabilities, but the quad port does not. I want to use the dual port 2 for my iscsi and vmotion, so that leaves the quad port for my public connections. What happens if the public NIC dies, especially if they vcenter on this host? I know that all the virtual machines will still work, but will they automatically vmotion to other hosts if only the public network fails?

Thank you.

NIC failures are very rare. So, I would place too much emphasis on this scenario.

Is the answer to your question, it depends. HA has a configuration option called isolation response of the host, who controls what happens when the host loses connectivity management. By default, it is configured to leave it powered on. You can change it to Shut Down, which makes sense in your scenario, as the loss of connectivity management means the loss of connectivity to the virtual machine as well. And in this way when management network goes down all your virtual machines is gracefully closed and restarted on another host.

• HA Configuration questions

Probably a simply and silly question but...

I'm having a problem with HA on one of my groups. At the cluster level, I have a message indicating ' insufficient resources to meet the HA level of failover cluster < name of the cluster > < name datacenter >.» Failed to contact a senior officer of HA cluster < name of the cluster > < name data center >

Each of the 6 guests in the show cluster has an error with the HA Agent on < Home > cluster < cluster name > < datacenter name > has an error: error when running script control of health.

Now, looking at them HA at the cluster level, see someone (many ahnds in the kitchen I guess) enabled DPM under admission control. I disabled that so that it matches my other clusters that are precisely be works very well. I selected "reconfigure HA" on all hosts, but the process fails. "Cannot complete the configuration of the HA agent on the host. Impossible to contact agent HA primary. »

So I think that if I just disable HA on the cluster and back depending on who he might rectify the issue.

2 questions:

1 will be solve my problem

2. If #1 will be, shutting down HA affects the virtual machines running on 6 other guests that endangering temporarily?

Thank you

Casey

Deactivation and reactivation HA on the cluster will probably fix the problem.

See here: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1021173

And you should do this as soon as POSSIBLE, because NOW your virtual machines are already vulnerable, because HA currently does not work properly.

Turning off HA and will not affect the virtual machines in any way, except to put them at risk of not be restarted automatically in the event of a host failure.

• Configuration questions

Hello

I'll put up a new configuration to increase the availability of the virtual machine

I have a 3.0 license for 4cpus ESX Server that manages all the vm I

What I wanted to do is setup in the image below

http://italianhost.org/imagehost/pics/4db3cef3f8bffdb60564ba94a6f7b91e.jpg

The virtual machine (about 6) is stored on NAS1 and their management divided by 2 servers

NAS2 is synchronized with nas1 (with rsync)

If a server goes down, another one will manage the virtual machines.

If a NAS fails, I'll use the virtual machines on the other.

My questions are these, if you guys could please answer none of them I appreciate it:

(1) ESXi will run on a quadruple-heart machine even if its license is for 2 cpu or will it does not at all?

(2) is there any compatibility issue on moving the virtual machine on the esx 3.0 Server server esxi 4.0?

(3) can I synchronize two SINS while VMS are running?

(4) do you think that any problem with this configuration?

Bye,.

uilli

> 1) Will run on a machine four hearts, ESXi even if its license is for 2 cpu or will it does not at all?

Licence is issued for sockets, no carrots. So 1 quad core CPU needs 1 license.

(> 2) is there a compatibility issue with the movement of the virtual machine on the esx 3.0 Server server esxi 4.0?

N °

(> 3) can I synchronize two SINS while VMS are running?

Best way is cold migrate virtual machines to the new data store. In fact, it is the only way.

Hello everyone

I'm new to VMware. I have two questions

(a) once I have add an address IP of SendTargets discovery, how can I update it? for example, if a new target is visible via the IP discovery after that it has already been added in VMware and I want it to appear.

(b) is there a provision the disconnection of one specifying IQN (San identifier)? I went though VSphere Documentation and I couldn't find anything.

(c) VSphere he iSNS support such as Linux (iscsiadm)?

Thank you

Welcome to the Forums-

(a) you will need to go to the section of the configuration of the ESX host storage card in the client vSphere select initator iSCSI, then click Rescan - this cause a target command send sending sllowing to the discovery of new targets

(b) No, there isn't a way to disconnect from a specific IQN I know

(c) to the vSphere, I think not vSphere supports iSNS.

• Boot from SAN Configuration Question

Asked me to start deloying new hosts ESX 3.5 using Boot from SAN. All the documentation I've found is clear on the configuration of HBAS and SAN lun. I tried to find out what the correct design for the HBA boot ports and storage used. Does anyone have info on the Boot/operating system as well as the storage of data on the same HBA ports. This design would be only two HBA by using a port of each for failover. I also plans to isolate the boot/OS on his own two redundant ports but get resistance from my SAN Group on the fact we use two additional ports turned on by host. After a few unsuccessful attempts with VMware support, I finally got someone to give me one different answer a document on how to put in place the HBA and SAN. I was told that sharing should be fine but I also met some files indicating that you must keep them separately.

Hello

There is no question share the wwn for a startup process.

The key here is to always book LUN 0 for the reader to boot/OS on all systems.

I have 12 guests thanks to her, and there is no sound technical reason to isolate him.

• DataGuard Configuration problem / ORA-16047

So last night I decided to set up a test of physical database paused. I had everything working properly and when I started to play with the Data Guard Broker I started having a few problems. Now I can't get the logs to be shipped from the primary to the day before.

First of all, I noticed a problem with a gap in the sequence numbers.

Standby
SQL> SELECT sequence#, applied from v$archived_log order by sequence#;

SEQUENCE# APPLIED
---------- ---------

Next log sequence to archive 39
Current log sequence 39
Here are the configuration on the primary information:
SQL> show parameter db_name

NAME TYPE VALUE
------------------------------------ ----------- ------------------------------
db_name string dgdb0
SQL> show parameter db_unique_name

NAME TYPE VALUE
------------------------------------ ----------- ------------------------------
db_unique_name string dgdb0
SQL> show parameter log_archive_config

NAME TYPE VALUE
------------------------------------ ----------- ------------------------------
log_archive_config string dg_config=(dgdb0,dgdb1)
SQL> show parameter log_archive_dest_2

NAME TYPE VALUE
------------------------------------ ----------- ------------------------------
log_archive_dest_2 string service=dgdb1 async valid_for=
(online_logfile,primary_role)
db_unique_name=dgdb1

SQL> show parameter db_unique_name

NAME TYPE VALUE
------------------------------------ ----------- ------------------------------
db_unique_name string dgdb1
So I proceeded to run this query:
SQL> SELECT error from v$archive_dest WHERE dest_name='LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2';

ERROR
-----------------------------------------------------------------
ORA-16047: DGID mismatch between destination setting and target
database
The error description is:
Cause: The DB_UNIQUE_NAME specified for the destination does not match the DB_UNIQUE_NAME at the destination.
Action: Make sure the DB_UNIQUE_NAME specified in the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n parameter defined for the destination matches the DB_UNIQUE_NAME parameter defined at the destination.
As you can see above the DB_UNIQUE_NAME in the parameter LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2 to match that of the database pending.

Also DG_BROKER_START is false on the back-end databases and relief.

Finally, I deleted all the files DRC * the directory $ORACLE_HOME/dbs on primary servers and intelligence to make sure that the broker is not configured.

Where am I wrong? How can I get the standby caught up and working properly again?

I apologized if I missed something. I'm relatively new to databases in waiting.

Centinul;

I noticed a few things

1. If you run the query below the sleep mode, you will probably always get the results you've posted

SELECT sequence #, applied to the order of v$ archived_log by sequence #.

What to do if run it from primary school and I add the "DEST_ID" column to the query.

2. you may have more luck finding GAPS using these queries:

Select max(sequence#) from v$ archived_log in case of application = 'YES ';

Choose the process, status from v$ managed_standby;

SELECT * FROM V$ ARCHIVE_GAP;

3. you mix SQL result with data broker, which can bite you. You don't know where you went wrong, but I would create PFILE file versions before trying to broker data at both ends. You can view each setting and avoid problems before adding the data broker. Data broker will take control and you can even find that it adds entries to your settings file.

The ORA-16047 is probably related database parameter and that should help at least answer the question. For example you might miss log_archive_config on the standby or soething. In comparing the two PFILE should refine this

I checked my notes from data broker, but did not find an ORA-16047, ORA-01031, ORA-16675, ORA-12514 and ORA-16608, I managed.

For me I decided it was a good idea to run Data Guard without data broker at first, until I got the impression using SQL.

Finally if you have not already consider the purchase of Larry 'Oracle Data Guard 11g Handbook' Carpenter IMHO its worth every penny and more.

Best regards

• remote server configuration question

Hello

I have my web app works fine on a local apache/php/mysql server. but now I'm doing work on the remote server. so far, no luck. a few questions:
the connection to the base for my local server has a user id and password. can I use the same username and password for the mysql database remote?
I understand how to connect the db to the apache server locally (I use port 8080), but I don't understand how the apache finds the right mysql database on the remote server. do I have to use the db connection in the application of dw Panel and modify the connection settings somehow it can therefore be used for the remote server? I noticed that I get an error: the requested URL doglist.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 not found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument directive to manage demand.
Apache/1.3.37 Server at www.counselorone.com Port 80

Thanks in advance for all advice.
Mike

David and Gareth Murray.

Thanks for your help. The last piece was dense enough to me, but I got it. David, I know that you deal with in your book, but you could probably devote a special section, its that delicate. The nuts and bolts of what I've done is...
1. to develop my unconscious site at the remote server, including making local database connections. Because microsoft IIS stored in my own way, I changed the port of Apache on 8080. After reading David's comments, I think that its smarter to simply not bother to change the Apache port and manually turn off the IIS application. OR, you can go back once you have created the site and edit your config file Apache backwards to port 80, because you will need the localhost, not localhost: 8080 to connect to the remote server. To avoid pulling the hair, just to deal with the default configuration of apache on port 80.
2 hire a remote hosting company. I use the server range, although I have not been with them long enough to give a thumbs up or thumbs down.
3. put the local site on the remote server. I used public_html to store my files.
4. download the remote server to connect to the database. This last part seemed to require a few things, which were not obvious. Following the advice on this forum, I went to the remote site and note the username, password and database name. (these are NOT the same as my local site). I then copied/renamed my database on the local site to match with the prefix than the remote server has put on my remote database. For example my db was named test1 locally, but the server named wwwcoun_test1, so I renamed it which.
5. I tried to establish a connection to the database with the new names. It worked. my understanding is that everything we try to do here is set up the connections correctly. you're dealing with loading data in the database with phpmyadmin, a great time-saving tool.
6. I went on site remote and typed in the url for files downloaded to see if they would connect to the database. they did it.

That's all. Hope this story helps the next person who needs help.

Yet once again, thank you very much to those who responded. I appreciate your support.

• Agent upgrade on the DataGuard configuration

Hello

Win x 64 server
Oracle 10.2.0.3.0
Agent 10.2.0.3.0 (go 10.2.0.5)

Last days I've been patching all the agents out there, nothing complicated on this matter, but now I came to our configuration dataguard, for me, it seems that this will not matter, I have found no documentation contends it would be different, since the agent are separated from data bases itself.

#shut to the bottom of the agent
#patch

Grateful for answers,.

There is nothing special dataguard / agency relationship. As usual, upgrade after upgrade test, and if you find any problems you will need to remove the target, and add it again.

• MAA - RAEVEN & DataGuard conceptual question about Photo (10.2 doc)

Hello experts,

I have question about the figure:
'D.1.2 putting into place of a primary of multiple instances with a multi-Instance standby'
http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/IMG/rac_arch.gif

page http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/rac_support.htm

Detailed explanation is provideded here:
http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/img_text/rac_arch.htm

It is said:
«This illustration shows a primary database archiving online redo logs to a database, multi-instance multi-instance ensures in a Real Application Clusters environment.» In this configuration, there are two instances of primary database: has the instance primary and primary Instance B. There are also two instances of sleep: standby receiving Instance C and standby recovery Instance D. The definition and purpose to receive the bodies and recovery is described in the text that follows this illustration. Each primary instance uses a LGWR to write again online newspapers and recovery logs archived local processes on the primary instance. In addition, the process LGWR on the primary Instance a sends its changes over an Oracle Net network to the RFS in First Instance B process and to the RFS process on Standby receiving Instance C. primary Instance B sends its changes over an Oracle Net network to the RFS on Standby Recovery Instance D process. The RFS process on each standby instance written in local newspapers do sleep. This figure also shows how the process ARCn on Standby receiving Instance C sends its changes over an Oracle Net network to the process on Standby Recovery Instance D RFS. The process on Standby Recovery Instance D ARCn also archives its changes in newspapers local archived redo. »

Question I would like to ask because I'd like to better understand the Internals:
(1) why it is written that LGWR writes Archives newspapers and not ARCH process? Is this some sort of error doc. ?
(2) what is the reason that LGWR sends redo changes made to the FIU to the instance of the same (primary) cluster? What is the purpose? What happens if it has many nodes in the primary? This means that this instance would be multicast it to each of them in this way?
(3) on the backup site: MRP is located on the D instance in this scenario? (1 single standby instance is applying the data but several can recive redo and write it to the SRls)?

(1) why it is written that LGWR writes Archives newspapers and not ARCH process? Is this some sort of error doc. ?
Yes, it seems that this picture has been simplified, and it does not show the level of appropriate detail.
(2) what is the reason that LGWR sends redo changes made to the FIU to the instance of the same (primary) cluster? What is the purpose? What happens if it has many nodes in the primary? This means that this instance would be multicast it to each of them in this way?
This shows what we call "cross instance archiving". If you enable this, one storing data on multiple nodes. So if you are in a cluster, and archive locally, if this node dies, so how you get that archive the data to retrieve, put the archives in several places gives you extra security for those who are paranoid. I think that it was more useful in the days where Oracle shipped just archiving logs, now that lgwr writes to the remote node, you are less likely to need it.
(3) on the backup site: MRP is located on the D instance in this scenario? (1 single standby instance is applying the data but several can recive redo and write it to the SRls)?
Yes one instance applies to the remake.

• Airport Extreme - static IP configuration question

Question: AT & T has us on a range of public static IP address xx.xx.xxx.33 - 38 (six addresses). I already put in place with the gateway, subnet. But I need the Airport Extreme to provide more than just 6 addresses to support all of our devices. Is this possible and if yes, how I have set up?

Attempted solutions: I tried to expand the DHCP range manually in the settings of the utility. I changed it to 10.0.214.33 - 38 (which was the default range) to 10.0.214.30 - 39 to see if this helped more devices, but she did not.

Help, please! Our business leaders are coming and I need to have this resolved.

Thank you

The key is that Apple routers are designed for general public use. They don't have many options when it comes to commercial applications. You better get a router that provides these additional features. I recommend that you consider the research in routers of professional level provided by Cisco (or similar) for this purpose.

None of the available options, provided by AirPort Extreme, will be able to satisfy your needs network entirely.

For example, you can use the network > router Mode to 'DHCP' option only This would use a public ISP IP addresses for the base station and to distribute the five for customers... other required network, but you will not be able to use this setting to distribute IP addresses private network customers remaining, as this option disables the service NAT on the base station.

Will on the other hand, using the NAT and DHCP option would take care to provide for the remaining machines, private addresses but allow only one device is accessible with a public IP address by placing the appliance in a DMZ. Apple calls this a "default host".
