. DATS adopted WMP icon

Hello

I have a Satellite M70-169 with Windows XP SP2.

When using WinDVD Creator I seem to have accidentally tried to open with WMP a file that could not be opened. Since then, my. DAT files have a WMP icon.
I managed to turn the tide by going to the registryto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\.datand in the right pane, remove a line that said 'perceived the file Type' and 'Vidéo'.
However, upon restart, which reappears in line. I have uninstalled WinDVD Creator (but WinDVD not, as I had a warning when you try that). There is always a WinDVD Creator subkey left in the registry.

Any ideas how I can get back to my default icon . DATS?

Thank you
Pesche

Hi Pesche

This solution might not be perfect, but try it.
You should be able to right-click on a .dat file > click the Change... button under the first section of the properties of the file (it may say "Open with Windows media player").
Now a new window will appear. Locate the application you want to open this file with (either from the list or click Browse for it), mark it and click on Ok.

This should give you at least something better.
In my case, WMP would still be an application that may be possible to chosse when opening a file with "open with...". "but if the opening by double-click on, program chosen th (not WMP) opens the file.

Good luck

Tom

  • Windows XP - installation of Realplayer changed audio and video icons

Running XP Home on my laptop.  I installed Realplayer and all of a sudden all the audio and video elements icons have changed.

I went into preferences/Options in Realplayer and Windows Media Player to select the default reader for WMP files, and while files now open with WMP, the icons are still those changed.

In the past, the minute I change associations (i.e. the value of the default WMP player), the icons changed as well, but it doesn't now.

How to restore the original icons, i.e. If a file is associated with WMP, how can I get the icon to show that it's a WMP icon?

  • WMP Shared Library work

I searched for a few days now and I can't find an answer to a question I have about Windows Media Player and work for music in a shared library, so I will try to explain here in the hope that someone might be able to help.

There are two involved PC - one, machine 'A' is currently running Windows XP Pro and currently hosts all of my photos, video, music, etc. Machine 'B' runs Windows Vista Edition full and is generally used to hear or see the media of the machine.

After a few questions of works of art in general I decied to try to pin down exactly what was going on.

I erased the data files WMP on both machines and made sure there is no folders added to automatic records / default for both the libraries began as empty (initially find only 'local' music that comes with Windows itself).  Also, two WMP is set to not download any information from the internet media. Fine so far.

On computer A, I created a test folder and put it in a folder with the tracks of an album and another folder with a few individual pieces of music. I also created an easily identifiable artwork for the album and for some of the individual tracks and made sure this work has been the unique work stored in the relevant music files ID3 tags.  I have also made sure there is no WMP work files in this folder to test (so not of Folder.jpg, AlbumArtSmall.jpg or AlbumArt_ {GUID} .jpg).

I started up WMP again on computer A, and added this test folder to the library.  WMP correctly analysed and displayed a few items, he created the usual mess of it is work of course, files but it used * my * work from the ID3 tags.  Once again, great so far.  I put it to share its library.

On computer B, I asked "look for other media share" and he immediately found the library shared by a machine.  However, if I look at the items in the shared library, I see the content of my file test, but with different illustrations - the art of actual coverage of the relevant albums.

My first assumption was that, even if the machine B has been fixed to not download anything on the internet recovering always the album artwork for the items in the shared library.  To test this, I have blocked access to internet on my router and again allowed out WMP files on computer B.  When he again accesses the library shared on computer A, it immediately displays the work of 'bad' again - but he could not have received this Web this time, if he get all this?

I assume that the work is cached somewhere and picked up images of a previous connection to my comprehensive library on the computer B the machine, but I don't want to.  I want to use the work in the files of current music, like WMP on machine made.

I'm a bit puzzled, because I don't even know if machine B becomes the ('bad') work from somewhere in itself, or if it comes from the machine.  I can't imagine that it's from a machine - why WMP on this machine would use the 'proper' work itself but then give another machine a copy cached in the work of 'bad '.  So presumably, these images come from somewhere on computer B, or is there another explanation?

Sorry that took so long to explain, I can't believe Microsoft had done this so complicated.

Anyone can shed some light on this?

    Thank you very much

    Update:

After a better looking PC in question, I could have answered my own question, I thought I would add here in case this is useful to someone else...

It seems that WMP (and Media Center) on the Vista machine at least keep several copies of the updated album art cache in multiple places and using different format of file names - that's why the failure of my first attempt to locate them.

So after having erased the following folders:

    %LocalAppData%/Microsoft/eHome/art cache

    Cache drive/Art %LocalAppData%/Microsoft/Media/LocalMLS

    %LocalAppData%/Microsoft/Media Player/MCH/Albums

Both Windows Media Player and Media Center on my Vista machines, reloaded the correct album artwork - I don't know if they use the ID3 tags on music files or work remote library files, but as they were all based on my work now, I don't actually mind.

    2 ways to recover...

1 do a system restore. Use a date where the icons were present on the notification as your restore point area.
Start button > Search box, type system restore > press the Enter key > uac prompt > click on choose a different restore point > next > select dates as your restore point, until the click > next > finish
To sit and wait. The machine restarts when it's done.

  • Extension and the application changed icons. LNK

All my program file extension is replaced by LNK and cannot open an any of them.  Icons are also modified for Windows Media Player.  I tried to open a video file and asked which application to use.  I chose Windows Media Player and who created this problem.  I can't use because no system restore applications run.  However, I tried to open Firefox by opening the folder "programs" > "Mozilla FireFox" > Firefox.app.  I use Windows 7 Prof Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

«However, I tried to open Firefox by opening the folder "programs" > "Mozilla FireFox" > Firefox.app.»

    Did you? So so good.

Have been that your .exe changed to .lnk? It would be average of not well, and I don't know how to fix this right now, but if that's what happened, I'll see if I can find something. That said, most of the icons on your desktop program should be shortened, not executables. If they are shortcuts, file extensions should be .lnk.

Finally, were your (guys who should be of .lnk) shortcuts changed to WMP icons and everything will now open WMP? Of after your description of what happened is more likely. It is not too hard to fix, but a method requires a regedit. There are a few automated regfix files that are supposed to restore the default values of the file extention but comments only that I got was a person who said that it did not work. I have a follow-up question on how they tried the fix, but so far no answer so we don't even don't go there for now.

First of all, since the default action is caused by a choice of the user (as it was accidental), you can be able to restore everything simply by creating a new user account. See if the icons to return to their natural state, then knit. If so, just move all your files and folders and delete the old account. If you use Outlook, you also need to reset where it looks for files of Outlook, but it can be automatic (do not try to start Outlook until what everything is copied on the property). If you use this method, remember to copy the hidden appdata folder. Just show all before you begin the copy.

The other method which requires a regedit is also quite simple, but recommend that you set a manual restore point before you start. A regedit always has the potential to mess up your system. the procedures are:

    1. Click on the Start Menu, type regedit in start search and press ENTER.
    2. Navigate to the following registry branch:

    NtVersion ntVersion\Explorer\FileExts\ [ext]

Replace the [ext] with the real extension of the file you want to restore the file type association to return to the original Windows 7 by default (probably .lnk). If you unsure, simply browse through all the Sub-touche under FileExts.

    1. Delete the subkey named UserChoice.
    2. Exit the registry editor.

      Theoretically, each method of work.

BTW, in the future do not use open with on no matter what shortcut... or if you do, don't forget to uncheck the box at the bottom (the one that says something like always use this application for this type of file). The best method is to set the default application using the actual file or via the control panel. Then, you can double-click on shortcuts to these types of files to your heart's content.

  • Problem WMP

Initially asked to Try * 3.

All of a sudden I can't open WMP. When I click on the icon on my desktop, I get the following message:

"The wmplayer.exe file has a version number of 12.0.7601.17514 where 12.0.7601.18150 was expected. Windows Media Player is not installed correctly and must be reinstalled. »

I followed your instructions for a normal edition of WMP [not N or KN]. I unloaded WMP reloaded and restarted WMP and rebooted.

WMP then worked for a whole day in a row. This morning, when I connected and clicked on the WMP icon, I got the same msg:

"The wmplayer.exe file has a version number of 12.0.7601.17514 where 12.0.7601.18150 was expected. Windows Media Player is not installed correctly and must be reinstalled. »

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I don't have N or KN and have SP1 and all updates of currently installed Windows.

I went to the troubleshooting Windows Media Player, run and I could open WMP, but all my recorded music had disappeared.

Now, I can't even click on icon to reopen WMP, I get the same error msg.

    Any ideas what's happening?

It seems that whenever ANY provider wants to install an "update", it causes more problems and frustrations.

Any suggestions would be helpful. I want my music back!

    Thank you.

    Acabuzzy,

It's very strange - we all both Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, but mine had no problem with the update.

I guess you fortunately just stay as you are for the moment.

If you try to get to the origin of this, you can see if the problem is caused by Windows itself or by a third party application. Operate the system in Safe Mode [see start your computer in safe mode and in Windows 7 system recovery options] then try the boot procedures [How to solve a problem by performing a clean boot].  Please note that procedures Clean boot can be time-consuming.

  • Icon background image vs confusion

My configuration: Blackberry JDE 4.7 plugin for eclipse.

I need a background image for my main screen of the application.  I managed to get somewhere using the solution at the end of:

    http://supportforums.BlackBerry.com/Rim/Board/message?board.ID=java_dev&message.ID=17501&query.ID=17...

However, before getBitmapResource("img/background.png") works for me I have to go to project/properties/resources and add png to the list of "files of icons.  With a decent size image, I get an error in the Console of the Blackberry manufacturer:

"Data of the icon is too large: 68166 bytes.

But when I reduce the image file I get the app screen tiled with several small icons.

I'm wrong about what makes my image a resource icon?  Is there another type of image?  I just need to find exactly the right size?
