db_name uppercase or lowercase

As far as I know, on Oracle Linux and Unix db_name initialization parameter is case-sensitive. And I think it's also important for the listener and tnsnames configuration.

This also affect the name of the database or SID in the directories in filesystemas/u01/app/oracle/admin/orcl1/adump?

Before g 11 and 12 c the db_name and ORACL_SID used to be uppercase. However, in recent installations of 11 g and 12 c, the default values appear to be lowercase.

If I look at my current installation of 12 c, I see the following:

$ ls/u01/app/oracle/admin

+ ASM cdb2 orcl orcl2 ORCL2 orcl3 cdb1

$ ls-l orcl2

drwxr-xr-x 2 oracle oinstall 12288 Oct 13 03:58 adump

drwxr-xr-x 2 oracle dba 4096 Oct 13 02:47 xdb_wallet

$ ls-l ORCL2

Total 4

drwxr-xr-x 2 oracle dba 4096 Oct 13 03:24 xdb_wallet

I don't know how I finished with the uppercase and lowercase orcl2, but I was wondering if someone can confirm whether db_name downstairs or uppercase also account for file directory names.

Finally in short, I did other tests and Internet research and came to the following conclusions:

Db_name and ORACLE_SID are case-sensitive on Linux and Unix, as well as orders and the use of file system. They are not under MS Windows.

The SQL * Net Global Database Name and and Net Service Name are not case sensitive:

https://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/network.112/e10835/syntax.htm#NETRF005

However, I remember 9i running Tru64 Unix, that the name of the service in the earpiece and the Tnsnames.ora were sensitive case-sensitive, but maybe it was a problem with this version of platform or the specific database.

Historically, DB_NAME and ORACLE_SID used to be uppercase.  When you type the name of the database world in installer YES, it automatically inserts the name of the SID field. I think in 9i, the installer automatically inserted YES the SID field in upper case, but is no longer makes g 11 and 12 c. Something has changed along the older versions of the installer YES, which I was not able to confirm, but as long as the use of the SID and DB_NAME case is coherent, it shouldn't be a problem.

It is also important to remember that SID and DB_NAME are not the same. SID is the name of the Instance, while DB_NAME is the name of the database. From my tests, using a database to lowercase, but SID uppercase name, installs always file lowercase directory names, as it should. Using UPPER.example.com for example, however creates a SID uppercase and use uppercase files directories.

What I've seen regarding capital letters and lowercase DB_NAME in file system seems to apply to 12 c only:

Under 11.2.0.4:

$ ls-l $ORACLE_BASE/admin

total 12

drwxr-x - 3 oracle oinstall 4096 Nov 5 21:56 + ASM

drwxr-x - 5 oracle oinstall 4096 Nov 5 22:23 orcl1

drwxr-x - 6 oracle oinstall 4096 Nov 5 22:39 orcl2

Under 12.1.0.2:

$ ls-l $ORACLE_BASE/admin

total of 36

drwxr-x-. 4 oracle oinstall 4096 Oct 7 04:07 + ASM

drwxr-x-. 6 oracle oinstall 4096 7 Oct 10:39 cdb1

drwxr-x - 6 oracle oinstall 4096 Nov 2 20:43 cdb2

drwxr-x - 6 oracle oinstall 4096 13 October 00:07 orcl

drwxr-xr-x 4 oracle oinstall 4096 Oct 13 02:47 orcl2

drwxr-xr-x 3 oracle dba 4096 Oct 13 03:24 ORCL2

drwxr-xr-x 4 oracle oinstall 4096 11 November 00:40 orcl3

drwxr-xr-x 3 oracle dba 4096 11 November 00:38 ORCL3

drwxr-x - 6 oracle oinstall 4096 Nov 12 17:48 SUPERIOR

$ ls-l $ORACLE_BASE/admin/ORCL2

Total 4

drwxr-xr-x 2 oracle dba 4096 Oct 13 03:24 xdb_wallet

Interestingly, db_name capital letters belong to the dba group.

I found the following in the documentation at https://docs.oracle.com/database/121/ARPLS/d_xdb_admin.htm#ARPLS74943

DBMS_XDB_ADMIN. INSTALLDEFAULTWALLET;

This procedure installs the default XDB portfolio in the default directory of portfolio XDB. The name of the directory where the XDB wallet is stored is prefixed by ORACLE_BASE when set, or ORACLE_HOME. It is then followed by /admin/db_name/xdb_wallet where db_name is the name of the single database.

Looking at/etc/oratab:

ORCL:/U01/app/Oracle/product/12.1.0/dbhome_1:N # line added by Agent
cdb2:/U01/app/Oracle/product/12.1.0/dbhome_1:N # line added by Agent
+ASM:/U01/app/Oracle/product/12.1.0/grid:N # line added by Agent
cdb1:/U01/app/Oracle/product/12.1.0/dbhome_1:N # line added by Agent
Upper:/U01/app/Oracle/product/12.1.0/dbhome_1:N # line added by Agent

Orcl3 and orcl2 of databases have been created apparently not using the installer YES or DBCA. If the mix lower and uppercase filenames in 12 c directory can be the result of the manual creation of the database and perhaps not to put the name in quotes.

It may be a matter of concern major funcional, but it can be confusing to see a directory of files to uppercase when the only db_name that should exist is in lowercase. P.S. I'm surprised none of the albums regular forum contributors have comments. But anyway, I think this pretty much concludes my analysis.

  • uppercase to lowercase in the list 'false. '

    http://InDesignSecrets.com/convert-text-to-lowercase-with-grep-utility.php

    Is a thread that I found. It converts the first char in a paragraph style "list bullet" in lowercase.
    Works very well, but often we have lists for that, for several reasons, we cannot use the automatic feature 'list' (copy paste issues with other programs, etc.). The first tank is the - (alt + 0151) followed by a space (no tab) or • tank (alt + 0149).
    I can't understand it with grep function, because there is no mention of the possibility of "tiny".
    Any suggestions?

    I was able to change the script of Peter Kahrel quite easily to change the third character instead of the first, which I think would be to do what you want.

    Change the THIRD character lowercase

    Peter Kahrel wrote the original of the present.

    app.findGrepPreferences = app.changeGrepPreferences = null;

    app.findGrepPreferences.appliedParagraphStyle = "list";

    Third paragraph lowercase letter:

    app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = "^.» {3}";

    found = app.activeDocument.findGrep ();

    for (i = 0; i< found.length;="">

    found [i] .characters [2] .changecase (ChangecaseMode.lowercase);

    I changed

    app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = "^." TO

    app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = "^.» {3}"; If she takes the first three characters of the paragraph instead of a single

    and

    found in [i] .characters [0] .changecase (ChangecaseMode.lowercase); TO

    found [i] .characters [2] .changecase (ChangecaseMode.lowercase); then, it changes the third character instead of the first.

    The script always depends on the text aving a named style applied (in this case I left it to the 'list') you may need to further modify to change the name of style to match your situation.

    And if you wanted, I think you could probably change app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = "^." for app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = "^.» + » ; to find all of the paragraph, and then change the index in the table to match any character position of your choice, but I don't think that a lot of purpose. One of the Scripting Guys could probably Jazz with an interface that asks the character you want to change.

    You can use a custom for a text field validation script:

    Custom script validate

    Convert the entry with capital letters

    Event.Value = event.value.toUpperCase ();

    You can also use a custom typing script to convert characters as they are typed by the user, something like:

    Custom script hits

    Event.change = event.change.toUpperCase ();

    To convert to lower case, use the toLowerCase method.

  • can not type lower case letters to change the password, only uppercase letters come

    When I change a password and that you have to copy the letters and numbers, I can only type the capital letters, why don't appear lowercase?

    Hi Claudia,.

    I seriously doubt the problem has nothing to do with your keyboard itself (unless all the problems of cap occur in other places as well and on other websites and in internet like Notepad or Word or other programs), but is a matter of how things work and is designed by the designers of web sites on the sites you use.  What you are dealing with is called a Captcha in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAPTCHA.  While this "capital" may occur on that specific page or site, I sincerely doubt it occurs on all sites that use such a feature - you are not using or never seen a site where it works differently.  Here's a number of things that may help to explain why you're facing what happens:

    1. the process is based on captures the difficult to read characters in a text box to verify that a person is on-line here and improve the safety of bots.  Different programs use different features and things to code differently.

    2. some Captchas are case-sensitive and others not (it depends on the product purchased or how it is programmed on the web site, or both).  Usually if it is case-sensitive I saw him say that this is the case in small print under the image.

    3. in programming, web page designers can usually decide whether to make case-sensitive entry (or just the sight of it appear uppercase, even if correctly entered in uppercase and lowercase letters), but often cannot control if or not the presented images show images that is case-sensitive.  If they want it is case-sensitive, then the text box must accept case-insensitive letters (even if they do not appear like this) or entry will be denied.

    4 if it is case sensitive, but the images are not, then a way around this problem from a design perspective is for box only accept letters in some cases and set the distinction uppercase / lowercase to only allow the entry of this case.  To make it easier on the user and prevent calls it does not work, they can control the input box, it allows only uppercase letters and define the uppercase distinction / lowercase to require that all capital letters.  So even if you can see the image in various cases, the box allow uppercase be entered which will allow the program to accept input.

    5. If it is not case sensitive, so they can always set the box to show only uppercase (for some reason any) which works perfectly for any deal is registered in this situation.

    6. If you are having problems with entry and suspect the acceptance of capital letters only is the cause, then try several images more before hitting the panic button.  Sometimes I find that I have to try 4 or 5 (they often have a switch button to choose an image that you think you can read correctly when the original or other choices are harder - I sometimes have trouble anyway even with my reading glasses and still need to try several times before it works)-then do not immediately assume that it is a rather simple design flaw being able to read the wretched things.  If some that there is a problem, try contacting the technical support web site support team.  They may be able to pass the image of recaptcha or reset your password (if you probably will not then be able to choose).

    7. This may be a function of the browser used.  Before assuming, is the keyboard (which is very likely if it occurs in a text area), try using another browser like some pages work differently with different browsers.  If you usually use IE, then download Firefox, Chrome or Opera and see if the same thing happens.  If so, it is probably not the browser.

    8. at this point, if you can not access due to it (forget the 'problem' if it allows you to enter and go beyond it despite showing all caps - it is not about you and is not a problem) and the website can not help, try using a different keyboard.  If it's a laptop, try a USB keyboard and see if that solves the problem or access the form from accessibility keyboard in Control Panel and see if it works.  If Yes, then you may have a keyboard problem.  First, update the driver of keyboard, firmware and/or software by the manufacturer of the computer or keyboard manufacturer, being sure to use the downloads for your machine and your version of Windows.  If this does not work, you may replace the keyboard, although it also works very well - but I doubt very much that will occur or prove to be the case, unless you have more problems associated with the keyboard that just that.

    Somewhere along the way, you will discover that this is not a problem or find the cause of the problem (it is really not that many options beyond what precedes that can cause this kind of thing and not be found using ideas, tests or methods above).  I'm almost ready to almost guarantee that you don't really have a problem, or one of them will be identity it and depending on what it is, give you an idea where to go next in terms of resolve.

    I hope this helps.  Again, I think you're very probably see how the site and not a real problem unless you can't access, after at least half a dozen tent (and perhaps someone else is who has best eyesight to try as well) and technical support of the site people confirm what is happening shouldn't happen.

    Good luck and best wishes.

  • STR-DN840: I can't get uppercase alphabet for entering my password wireless WPA

    When I try to enter a capital letter in my password string, I press the shift key and the number key repeatedly and it simply passes through the tiny alphas, then the digit, then back through the case from the bottom, never traveled all uppercase choice as claimed by the manual. I don't want to change ALL my passwords on all my devices and router to accommodate only the Sony box. Any known solution?

    I found the solution. Contrary to what the manual says, if you want to switch between uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers, use 'shift-CHARACTER' and repeatedly on / off the display at the bottom of the screen, showing the State is lower, higher, or digital.

  • Record DNS ESX changes uppercase

    Hello

    I have 10 ESX 3.5.0 123630 servers connected to Virtual Center 2.5

    All servers are configured with Windows 2003 DNS as primary and secondary DNS servers.

    (To the best of my knowledge) servers are configured in all places with the hostname in lowercase, but DNS a records and PTR records appear in capital LETTERS.

    So much, if I remove the documents, they are recreated automatically uppercase or if I create them in lowercase they are changed to UPPERCASE again.

    I checked in the/etc/hosts and the/proc/sys/kernal/hostname.  On the local console, the hostname appears in lowercase and VC, they appear in lowercase.

    Normally, it doesn't worry me, but yesterday after a major crash HA lost network connection between agents.

    I finally corrected HA with a mixture of restart and deactivation and activation.

    Thanks in advance for any ideas on this issue.

    Uppercase or lowercase the DNS entries are of no interest as DNS queries are not case-sensitive.

    But you must know the uppercase and lowercase if you are using the file "/ etc/hosts ', as is case-sensitive on Linux hosts and in the ESX console.

    The file "\windows\system32\drivers\etc"hosts"in Windows is not case-sensitive.
