DBA Oracle 10g book

Hello

I am new to Oracle, would say that if I note me on 10, I'd give may be 2 points because I know just the basics like tablespaces, file data, a little on the architecture... Although I've erased the 1 review of sql databases, but which is more related to sql.

In the next 2 months I'm supposed a... disaster recovery as we use our backup tapes exisitng to restore the entire OS and Oracle DB with the application on UNIX... to prepare myself before for this exercise, I think I have to learn a lot about the foundations of the Oracle, how works RMAN, how can I restore the db through RMAN backup , apply the logs to archive blah blah.

I downloaded a few pdf from tahiti.oracle.com and now I realize there is a large enough ocean and not practical to fill the same in the next 2 months & I can not afford to read the material on a full-time, due to problems of support in production... so to treat this I thought I'd go for a book , cannot so you guys recommend a good book for Oracle 10 g dba & RMAN.

If I have to buy separately from RMAN book that is not a problem I can do.

Let me know, if my approach to managing this problem seems logical.

Concerning

Learner

Take the first small not, I suggest starting with the "2 day DBA" book from the library of documentation:
http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/B19306_01/server.102/b14196.PDF

If you want to have a good understanding of the Oracle, I recommend before jumping in RMAN, take a look at Tom Kyte's latest book. I recently went through the book, and you will find the original version of this study here:
http://www.Amazon.com/Expert-Oracle-database-architecture-programming/DP/1430229462

Oracle 11g RMAN revenues for data book is very good, and you will find a review I wrote about this book here:

    Hello

    http://www.DBA-Oracle.com/t_insifficient_privileges_create_view_grant.htm said

    You must have the privileges of the object that you made from tables

    Privileges required to create views

    To create a view, you must meet the following requirements:

    You must have been granted the CREATE VIEW (to create views in your schema) or CREATE ANY VIEW (to create a view of another user schema) system privilege, either explicitly, or by a role.

    You need to explicitly obtain the SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE privileges object on all underlying base objects in the view or system privileges SELECT ANY TABLE, INSERT a WHOLE TABLE, UPDATE ANY TABLE or DELETE ANY TABLE. You may not have gotten these privileges through roles.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you

  • Oracle 10g DBA questions

    I am preparing to Oracle 10g certification. I have several questions that I can't answer how well I did a lot of research. Help, please. Thank you. S.

    1. which two databases users can log into EM to perform the loading bath using SQL loader?

    2. who would have three configurations you use for the automatic management of the backup and restoration of the Oracle database operations?
    store data files in the flash recovery area.
    store the archive logs in the flash recovery area.
    Back up the control files; use the database in archivelog mode.
    Configure the automatica undo management;
    Use the flash recovery for backup files automatic storage management

    3. which three user names, by default, can provide access to the control of database Oracle Enterprise managers?
    system, sysman, dmsnmp, sys?

    4. When you create a database using DBCA, why is the block size not enabled?

    5. the table maybe flashback if it resides in a locally managed tablspace?

    You do not have my point. There is no need to look for 'anyone' on any forum for the answers. You should look for them yourself.

    Think about this question only. Why the confusion? Florian gave an answer already you must choose the tempelate custom to get the option of block size. So the question is the size of block unmodifiable why right?

    + 1. you have chosen the file storage system.

    Doesn't ANY sense!
    2. you use no model of custom database to create db

    + 3. you haven't chosenGrid Ctrl +.
    It has nothing to do with the size of the block.

    + 4. data block size is set to the maximum block size supported by the operating system.

    Nope, oracle assigns the default value they use in a statement.

    + 5 block size can be increased when DBCA is called Oracle installer +.
    Nonsense!

    I left the option 2, that has meaning today?

    Yet once, not worth about issues and especially not these. Think and prepare concepts and for it you just put the efforts.

  • Imported a few diagrams of Oracle database 11g oracle 10g

    Hello

    I have the task to import some schemas are basis of oracle 10g (10.2.0.4) in the database to oracle 11 GR 2 (11.2.0.2). Now I only oracle 10g export and import utility (the 11g server is not where I give myself the import duties).

    I can do the export of the g 10 patterns using the 10 g utility to export and then import into database 11 g using the 10 g import utility? I ran a test to do this and found it works but I would like also to have advice from experts on this subject.

    Also another question is: If the schema of the source is 11g - assume - can the utility of export/import of 10g still work in this case? I mean the scheme for the export of db1 say (which is 11 g) using 10 g utility to export and import them into 11 g db2 database (which is still 11 g) using 10 g import? I request because I don't have access to the 11g server and trying to find what I can do with the 10g utilities.

    Thank you

    set up a database connection to the database to version 10 gr 2 in 11 GR 2 database.
    Now using the client impdp GR 11, 2 utility use
    Impdp network_link =

    Fact.
    Your "objection" you have no access to GR 2 11 does not count that you can install a client of 11 GR 2.

    Also in general do not use a version more low imp to imp to a higher version database
    Exp and imp are also deprecated in 10g and more.

  • ORACLE 10g Performance: Dual-core against multicore

    All the

    I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but what is generally the recommended hardware approach with regard to the data warehouse ORACLE running on a multiprocessor system with options is: dual-core or many - core (4, 6 or 8 cores)?

    I understand suggests that a server based on an 8-core processor does not offer the same performance benefits of eight processors core; So logically, it would be preferable to keep the carrots to a minimum while using the feature of "parallelism" to ORACLE on a multi-core system. Is it a correct assumption? Or can get you that little bit of performance using a single indictment of a multicore processor?

    Examples of an 8-core system:

    Option1: HP DL580 G5 Server, 4 * processors dualcores Intel Xeon E7220 2.93 GHz, 32 GB DIMM RAM
    Option2: Sun SPARC T5440 Server, 1 * T5440 8-core CPU module 1.4 Ghz 64 son, RAM 32 GB DIMM
    Option3: Server HP DL785 G5, 2 * processors four cores AMD Opteron 8393 3.1 GHz, 32 GB DIMM RAM

    Hello

    What is the recommended hardware approach regarding the data warehouse ORACLE running on a multiprocessor system with options is: dual-core or many - core (4, 6 or 8 cores)?

    It depends on the characteristics of your workload.

    Do you see the CPU in your top 5 timed?

    Most data warehouses are not related to the CPU, they are I/O related because there is not enough RAM to cache all data blocks...

    I have here some notes that explain this in detail:

    http://www.DBA-Oracle.com/oracle10g_tuning/t_cpu_constrained_bottleneck.htm

    Which option would be best?

    One of these will be fine. In a data warehouse, it is easy driving processors at full capacity, using OPQ by adjusting the LEVEL.

    For more information, visit http://www.tpc.org and searchg for Oracle TPC - H benchmarks, that's how I evaluate the DW servers:

    This is the bench for the DL580:

    http://www.Google.com/search?q=site%3Awww.TPC.org++Oracle+TPC-h+DL580+&AQ=f&OQ=&AQI=

    Why limit your choices to HP and Sun? IBM has screamer servers, as the fact of UNISYS and same Dell...

    Just be careful. I've seen shops that upgrading to more/more-fast CPU, to see no change in performance.

    I hope this helps...

    Well said Aman.

    @OP,
    We can not campare database to another database which is just useless.
    If you really want to know about the product, then 'Buy' and 'start' using this product, so you can understand what is the pro and cons of each product.

    In short, if you want to know then software Oracle is on top on the market for the database.

  • Oracle 10g RAC - private interconnection on VLAN not routable private

    There is in our data center existing Oracle 10g RAC configured with VLAN private interconnection managed by a different group of DBA.

    We create a new, separate Oracle 10 g RAC environment to support our request.

    When we discussed with our data center people to set up a local VIRTUAL private network for our CARS of interconnection, they suggest to use the same VLAN used by the other Oracle RAC configurations existing private. In this case the IPs of interconnection will be on the same subnet as the other Oracle RAC configurations.

    For example, if
    RAC1 with 2 nodes use 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2 in the VLAN_1 for the Interconect, they want us to use the same VLAN_1 with interconnecting IP 192.168.1.3 and 192.168.1.4 to our 2 node RAC.

    Share the same subnet on the same private VLAN for the interconnection of different configurations of RAC, supported?
    Which will cause a drop in performance? This means the IPs of a RAC interconnect configuration is to pings from other RAC configuration.

    Someone met with such purpose?

    Could not find any info on it on Metalink.

    Thank you

    Yes
    It is practically very doable... as you would have only 4 m/c in subnet ip... and it is much less than the public subnet that we should abstain from interconnection.

    I tried by the display setting, but the same error is thrown

    Please let me know any work around for this problem.

    I bet that...

    you connected to the desktop as root, open a terminal, su was at oracle and started the runInstaller.

    In which case the office belongs to root and disadvantaged poor oracle is not a desktop computer can be written. The solution is not to connect to the desktop as root. Indeed, in the real world most DBA trying to do this will get their fingers slapped.

  • expdp diractory in oracle 10g

    Hi master,

    I use oracle 10g on RHEL5. I just tried to export the schema with expdp rather than traditional exporting.

    to do this, I created a directory exp_dir in "u01/app/oracle/oradata', grant create any user directory that you wish to export. Directory created as "sys as sysdba.

    grant read, write to the user on the directory.

    taken the export with expdep...

    but in this whole process, I never see a directory created at the specified folder.is, the directory is virtual? the dumpster exported said

    Empty the file system set. SYS_EXPORT_SCHEMA_01 is:
    /U01/app/Oracle/oradata/user.dmp
    Work 'SYSTEM '. "" SYS_EXPORT_SCHEMA_01 "conducted at 14:56:37

    where is the directory created?

    Thanks and greetings
    VD

    In my view, it is an extra step in security.
    You must have the right to create a directory in the DB AND the level of the BONE.
    Think that companies, including a separation of functions is considered strictly.

    What if someone entitled to create directories in the comic book, doing so would crush the existing OS files for example
    expdp reuse_dumpfiles = y dumpfile =system.dbf

    Basu,

    Dg4ODBC gateway can be used with the 10.2.0.5 database. It is certified and no additional license is required for the database to ODBC gateway - the license is included in the license database (even when the Oracle database is still version 10.2) AND you can also install Dg4ODBC on another machine, then the Oracle database. There is no need to have Dg4ODBC installed on the same computer as the Oracle database.

    -When you install DG4ODBC on the same machine as your Oracle 10.2 database, then install in its own, separate OH - otherwise you will corrupt your existing installation of the database.

  • Is there a way to fill the boss way recursive/dynamically in oracle 10g

    Hello

    I want to complete the following template and then use the result as a virtual table in oracle 10g.

    SELECT 2 FROM DUAL;

    UNION ALL

    4. SELECT FROM DUAL;

    ALL UNIONL

    8. SELECT FROM DUAL;

    .

    .

    .

    .

    UNION ALL

    . SELECT POWER (2.61) FROM DUAL;

    Is it possible that I can use the recursion or dynamic query with "with clause" and avoid writing all these statements.

    Thank you

    YG

    Hi GY,.

    In 10g, you can use a clause of the TYPE:

    SELECT nbr

    OF THE DOUBLE

    MODEL

    DIMENSION (2 d)

    MEASURES (number 0)

    RULES ITERATE (61)

    (nbr [ITERATION_NUMBER] = power (2, ITERATION_NUMBER + 1))

    ORDER BY nbr;

    From 11 g 2, you can use a WITH recursive clause:

    WITH v (n, lvl) AS (SELECT 2 n, 1 lvl FROM DUAL

    UNION ALL

    SELECT 2 * n, 1 + lvl

    V

    WHERE the lvl<=>

    )

    Select n v
