  I use Vista Home Premium on my laptop and my AVG expired a few weeks ago. I went online and accidentally bought and installed a fake AV program, called Antivir solution Pro. I also downloaded AVG again. However, in the Security windows malware protection sectionoif, my protection antivirus says not compatible and shows that this "Antivir Solution Pro is still on but is its status as Windows Security Center in a format that is no longer supported". Defender scan shows pick up nothong. I tried to install AVG and it tells me to uninstall this program for optimal performance, but when I click on the button uninstall I can't find this Antivir anywhere in the list. I run the Microsoft Windows malicious software removal tool now. What can I do if not find something?

  I can not as up-to-date definitions for Defender. I tried to download them from the microsoft Web site, but I don't think it worked because I always get the message. Is this related?

• Windows Security Center is missing...

  I have tried turning Windows Firewall on my Vista laptop and an alert pops up saying, "Due to a problem not identified, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings." Also in the Firewall menu, it says "Windows Firewall does not use recommended settings to help protect your computer". I clicked Update settings now that led to the alert "firewall Windows was unable to make the requested updates." I went to Windows Update and tried to turn on automatically find and install the updates did not work (don't remember what was now the error message). I downloaded a Microsoft Fixit Troubleshooter to try to fix the problem. Well, the problem appeared to be fixed, but when I went to install the updates that he found, all updates could not be installed. The error code was 80246008.   Follow these instructions to fix the Windows Firewall:
  Download and install repair Windows:

  When the repair of Windows opens, click start repair , click Start. Unselect all the boxes except for the following:
  -Reset the registry permissions
  -WMI repair
  -Repair Windows Firewall

  There is a red X on the icon of flag in the bottom right of my screen. When I click on it to start the WSC service I get a Message that says: "cannot start service of Windows Security Center." There is no error number.

  I can go and change Autostart Settings, and will work for a few seconds. The WSC turns on and then a few seconds later, it will turn, the settings go back to 'off '.

• Windows Security Center service cannot be started

  I have some malware on my computer. It is gone now. I ran several scans with different products. No virus or malware are detected.

  However, I get the error message "Cannot start Windows Security Center Services".

  I tried all of the recommended patches. But none of them work.

  Click ADD and type

  Below, you have the permission for users

  Select full control, and then click ok

  DO the same for the "reg" MPSSVC so key which also returns access denied.

  Make sure also canceled to start service to invite you, he should be admin/elevated command prompt.

  The fact that you can re-enable and restart the service and then see off again (if I understand correctly your information) is a strong indication that there is still an active infection on your computer (as opposed to the impossibility for the throw at all which is often the result of inflicted malware corrupted registry).
